Severus's parents die when he is four, he is raised by the Evans as their son. This creates a very different Severus who is not amused his dearest sister Lily is marrying James Potter. At least he and Vernon have something in common.

Severus Tobias Evans Snape walked over to where his brother in law was sitting watching James make a fool of himself. Honestly Severus could not understand why Lily loved the posh oaf like she did. Sure James had taken out over an hundred death eaters stopping a dark revel before it happened and freed a thousand prisoners as a result, but he still was not good enough for Lily. She was smart, strong and James was a rich spoiled brat. Severus took a seat his wand up his sleeve in it's holster. Vernon liked Severus, he knew he was a potions master, or as Severus explained to him a magical chemist and that he was working on becoming a magical doctor. Severus always took the time to explain things to Vernon in a way that he would understand and never looked down on the hardworking muggle man.

"He give you trouble earlier?" Severus asked.

"Yes, flaunting he has wealth, who does he think he is the king of England?" Vernon replied, "bloody rude of him, wave his wand and everything is grand."

"That is why I like potions, I have work to make things work and I get to heal others, Petunia good to see you." Severus said as Petunia came over, "Sirius."

"Severus." Sirius said.

Sirius did not hate Severus, not when the other boy told him to write his grandfather and explain his sorting to him. This got the head of the Black family to take Sirius under his wing and his brother as well. Regulus went to Ravenclaw and was taken under Severus's wing as Severus was a Ravenclaw as well. He was glad he had just a good upbringing, what he remembered of his birth parents was hunger, shouting and fear. With the Evans he had food, quality clothing (even if it was secondhand) and love, lots of love. He had two sisters who he loved dearly and now was about to have an annoying airhead of a brother in law. Well he did make Lily happy and there was that.

"Is it true you can turn into an animal?" Vernon asked Sirius.

"Yes sir." Sirius said trying to show he was not better than this hardworking muggle, "I can."

"None of the sir, Vernon is my name." Vernon replied.

"Well yes, I can, registered and all, you want to see?" Sirius asked.

"Of course, I have seen it but Vernon has not, it's good magic that is." Petunia replied.

"Well that is useful." Vernon said when Sirius turned to Padfoot and back, "suits you too."

"I do try, oh and I am well going to be the next lord Black, and I intend to make sure the magical world does more than survive, it needs to grown and thrive." Sirius said, "and well I need to invest in the muggle world, tell me about your company?"

By the end of the wedding and day Vernon was pleased to have got another investor into Grunnings, this meant he was going to rise even faster in the company. He had even been civil to James though he did not much like the man. Severus though, now he was a hardworking fellow for sure. The next two years were tense, James and Lily had to go into hiding. The only contact Lily had with her sister and brother was through letters or the telephone. Then came the day everyone dreaded and hoped would not happen. Severus appeared one cold November morning eyes red with a sleeping Harry in his hands with Padfoot by his side. Petunia took one look at Severus and Vernon took Harry while the siblings sobbed in each others arms. James and Lily were dead and Harry had survived. He would grow up with his aunt, uncle and cousin in a home that Petunia had designed for the family.

It was to this home that one Albus Dumbledore came the next day. The house was built on a hill, the ground floor which held the large dining room and a two story library and the entry way and garage were on the ground floor. Above that extending over the top of the hill was the lounge that opened to the eat in kitchen, the master suite, three others bedrooms and one bath. There was a large balcony that one could walk to from the lounge and the bedroom wing made an L at the back where the garden was. Albus liked the stone home with slate roof but he had a mission. Severus let him in and oh, he was carrying Harry, so he did bring Harry here.

"We already have everything taken care of." Severus said, "but do come in, we can have tea in the library."

"Of course, you know Harry has to live here then?" Dumbledore said.

"And where else would he live?" Vernon asked, "this is his home now, Lily said if anything happened our home would be the safest."

"Good, good, splendid, will you need funds?" Dumbledore asked putting a trunk on the floor, "I have Harry's bedroom things here, the rest of the house is packed up and I made it unplotable for the future."

"Thank you, Harry has a home here, he always will." Petunia said, "he is family just as Severus is."

Dumbledore smiled and realized that there might be dark days ahead but Harry was in the right place. This was a good family and they would do right by Harry. He added two teaspoons of sugar to his tea and sipped it. Voldemort was gone for now, and Harry was safe. The Longbottoms were still in hiding and the death eaters were being arrested and would face death when convicted. Dumbledore sipped his tea, for now things were peaceful and a small family would raise Harry with love.
