Before we get into the mist of things, addressing a few reviews from the last two chapters:
Guest / DCDGojira (Chapters 11/12): Thanks! I'm excited to show Nora in action too! And I've also seen the super forms for Zenkaiger and Twokaiser, and I have to say, they're pretty neat! I'll also check out that recommendation soon!
User / ZeroTheOne (Chapter 12): It's going to be a completely original one, so stay tuned for that!
User / TheOkWriter (Chapter 12): Think of this as Remnant's swordsmen. The Saber characters are still going to stick around. With a few additions as well.
Anyways, onto the story!

It had been a day since Ruby and Weiss had sort of reconciled with each other, and classes seemed to be going like usual. For once, Kuen was glad that he didn't have to deal with the Megid. Two days of fighting them back-to-back, especially considering the fact that he got severely weakened on day two, did not help whatsoever.
He'd made reservations to study with both Pyrrha and Weiss starting tomorrow, and he was a little worried. Sure, they were his teammates, but he knew two things; Pyrrha was a champion and beat his ass, and Weiss was the maestro of Dust studies in their team. It didn't take an idiot to figure out that it was going to be hard for Kuen.
But he decided to take it in stride, thankful of the fact he even had mentors to begin with.
Though focusing in Dust studies seemed to be much more fun than he'd expected. Probably because of the sheer esotericism of his teacher. Professor Peach was a much more hands-on teacher than he'd expected, even given the context of the class. Dust studies was already a more practical class than let's say, World History, but she took it to another level.
Mainly, at the moment, they'd been experimenting with Dust shards, for whatever reason. Today was more of an analysis class, experimenting with the process of combining Dust crystals together.
That was definitely a bit too explosive for what was supposed to be a regular class, but apparently Professor Peach was prepared for that sort of thing. So oh well, Kuen was going to just go with the flow. He was getting a lot more learning experience to go with what he had read in the books he'd found at the library in town.
At least that was much calmer, compared to the shitsto- I mean, the mess that was World History. Professor Oobleck was much feistier than he had ever expected. For one, he was speeding at breakneck speed; second, he did not like when people called him Professor, and instead asked for people to call him Doctor. Sure, he had a qualified doctorate, but how were people supposed to know when his official name in the school timetable did not list 'Doctor'?
Either way, it was weird. Kuen was sure his hands were burning from the sheer amount of typing he'd done taking notes. He was pretty sure that most of his teammates wouldn't be able to keep up with the sheer intensity of the class. Weiss and Pyrrha? Probably. Ruby and Nora? Maybe. The rest? He wasn't sure.
So he'd be a good Samaritan and do the necessary note-taking for them.
The following class wasn't too lax, either. It was their second of three Combat class sessions for the week, and today was another session of sparring. Mostly, he'd been a little more observant than yesterday, taking notes of the fighting styles. He was pretty sure, if not for that, he'd get his ass beat horribly.
And as the class was at its halfway mark, he was called to spar. He shouldn't have been all too surprised, but for some reason, he was still caught by surprise. Picking up his weapon, he walked towards the main arena, as the other name was called.
Pyrrha Nikos.
And that was his cue to know that he was absolutely screwed. Sparring with Pyrrha in the morning was enough to tell that he was going to lose.
"Begin." Glynda simply spoke.
Pyrrha immediately went on the offensive, as Kuen tried to defend the best he could.
This was not looking fun for him.
And the results spoke for themselves. Kuen was in the red, but Pyrrha was still far in the green. He'd managed to chip off a bit of her health, but that was pretty much it. He suspected it had something to do with her Semblance, but he figured that could wait for tomorrow, when he sparred with her.
They'd made a deal, after all. Well, less 'they', and more 'him', anyways.
As Combat classes came to a close, they were finally allowed to head back to their dormitories to rest for the night. It was still early in the evening, but Kuen was tired. Though he had enough energy to make his way to the cafeteria, grabbing an early meal from the lunch lady. He was thankful that they had prepackaged meals already on board, so he took whatever fit and paid the necessary amount of Lien.
And entering his room, he immediately got comfortable on the bed.
"Agh. Finally." Kuen lamented.
It was even a Friday too, so he was happy that this whole ordeal was up and done with. Looking at the clock, he noticed that it was still five in the evening, so he quickly got a shower. And did his evening prayers too, he made sure not to skip those. Being a student and a huntsman-in-training weren't going to stop him from the more necessary religious traditions he had to do.
Half an hour later, he was straight out on his phone, playing whatever mobile games were available. Though, it was less a phone now, and more a Scroll, since he was able to request one on the grounds of 'new student and did not have one'. He was thankful Ozpin was that nice, but he wasn't too sure he was going to be able to exploit that in the future.
Anyhow, he got up, decided that studying with Weiss could wait for the night, and walked over to Team RWBY's dorm room. He had better things to do, like spend time with Ruby or whatever. Friend sessions were in order.
Knocking on the door, he heard Ruby's voice scream, "Not right now!"
Kuen simply asked, "What, y'all still showering or something?"
The atmosphere was silent for a bit, before Ruby replied, "Yep!"
Made sense.
He paced around the hallway, killing time. Though, he was on his Scroll, browsing the news. Sure, it was boring, but hey, it at least killed time enough.
And as he heard the knob to Team RWBY's dorm room click, he paced over.
"May I come in now?" Kuen asked.
"Yep!" Ruby replied, in the same tone she had earlier.
Kuen gently creaked the door open, noticing that all the girls were already in their night wear. It wasn't too surprising, since there wasn't much to do. Kuen was in his own nightwear after all. But it still somehow surprised him for some reason.
"It's really fine if I come in, right?" Kuen inquired.
Weiss gave a nod.
And Kuen stepped in, his Scroll in his hand, as he greeted all four of his teammates. And as he got a response back, he figured he'd ask something random.
"Y'all play shooter games?" He asked curiously.
Ruby raised her hand almost instinctively. "Ooh, I do!"
"Well, do you play this?" Kuen showed the game he had on his Scroll.
There was an excited look on Ruby's face. Kuen could figure out where the conversation was heading.
"Ooh, I do!" Ruby stated, glee in her eyes.
"Well, ya wanna play? I've barely been here a day or two, and I'm already bored."
"Sure!"
"Aren't you too young to play that game?" Yang asked.
"Nuh uh!" Ruby retorted back.
Kuen chuckled, plopping himself on the ground next to Ruby's and Weiss' bunk bed.
"Do tell me, how the frick did you manage to get those bunk beds even operational? They don't look safe!" He was almost exasperated in a sense.
Ruby's bed was hanging from the ceiling. With a few bits of cloth. Precariously. Kuen was sure that was its own risk. Blake's bed on the other side of the room was no better. At least it wasn't hanging from the ceiling. But it was basically on top of Yang's bed. And it was held up by books?!
"Magic." Both Ruby and Blake retorted.
That definitely caused a snort from Kuen.
"I mean... hey, at least you have more space in the middle of the room for like, whatever you need the extra space for anyways."
Kuen paused after saying that.
"When are you going to rebuild the bunks to be better?"
There was a wave of silence that spread in the room.
"I'm going to assume that it means 'never', then."
Sigh.
Anyhow, Ruby and Kuen continued to play the game on their respective Scrolls, and they were definitely having a blast. Playing a game by yourself was one thing, playing with other people through voice chat was another, but this? Playing with a friend you can actually talk to and strategize with physically? That was basically something else.
Which meant that what was supposed to be half an hour ended up becoming two hours. These were truly the perks of being immersed in your game.
And by the time that the two were done, Weiss was bugging Kuen enough to remind him of the classes he'd promised to have with Weiss. For a moment, he was almost lazy, too tired to even accept; however, he decided he'd suck it up and get it done with, especially since it was his choice.
And the next hour or two was spent in Kuen's room, as Weiss continued to tutor him, teaching him of the basics. He was lucky she accepted his explanation of why he didn't really know the basics of Dust, at the very least.
And by the time that the two were done, Kuen had already covered a good chunk of the pre-Beacon syllabus that he needed to get done. Which was definitely a good thing. After that, Kuen was left to his own thoughts, as he stared at the Kaenken Rekka, which was sitting on his desk.
He feels like he needs a bit of training in the night. To get the boring feeling washed off to some extent.
Heading out, in his pajamas, carrying his sword with him, he looked at the time. Still ten in the night, so he had two hours before Professor Goodwitch was going to kill him for not properly following curfew. Sure, he might get into trouble because he's lingering in the classroom hallways at night, but at least he has an explanation, and it's not too late.
Walking through the hallways of Beacon, Kuen could feel chills running down his spine, like somebody was observing him. However, he tried his best not to mind the chilly feeling, finding the Combat classroom he normally used.
Stepping into the room, he flicked on a few of the lights, just enough to have the main arena area be lit up.
Unsheathing his sword from his belt, he stood in the middle of the arena, taking a deep breath.
Maybe he should be like Goku and do some katas. Or whatever they're supposed to be called anyways.
Making movements he felt were rhythmic, he paused. And then he realized he could just search up proper movements for a swordsman like him. He did figure he should ask Ogami-san or Shindo-san for training, but that could wait until the following day. He wanted to try learning for himself, because that's the only way he can think of rushing into a situation like this.
And he found a video, as he began executing the necessary movements. Following the rhythm that was provided, he found himself almost entranced by the rhythm, sucked into it.
It was a shame, though, that his motions had to be interrupted. Especially considering Professor Goodwitch was staring at him, almost a little furiously.
"Mr. Akegata, what brings you here at the brink of midnight?"
"Umm... training? I tried doing katas, somewhat?"
"Right. It's almost eleven. It's basically almost past your curfew."
"I guess I like training at night."
"I see. But I recommend that you leave soon."
"Right." Kuen noted.
And he grabbed his sword, the blade still glowing a dim red. Heading out of the combat class, he would head back to his room.
The day had finally come to an end after that.
The following morning had arrived. Kuen got up particularly early today, and for good reason. He was going to spend the morning training with Pyrrha, after all.
Dressed in more casual attire, but still somewhat geared for combat, he looked at himself in the mirror. He hadn't had a chance to wear this particular set since he arrived in Vale, but he had to admit. He was looking pretty good at the moment.
Grabbing Rekka and the Swordriver, he headed out, though he seemed to not be alone. Unknowingly, the rest of Team RWBY had seemed to be awake as well, and were trailing behind. Kuen didn't quite notice them, but that meant they were doing their stealth job pretty well.
Team RWBY wasn't sure why they wanted to follow, but they wanted to follow and see. Said sentiment ended up being shared by Team JNPR, the three remaining members also trailing.
And Kuen arrived at the Combat classes, pushing the door open.
"Ah. Didn't realize you were up earlier than me, Pyrrha."
Pyrrha chuckled.
"And here I thought I was the one who woke up earlier." Kuen added.
Kuen would unsheathe Rekka, as it began to whir to life.
KAENKEN REKKA!
火炎剣烈火!
Kaenken Rekka!
"Shall we begin?" Pyrrha asked, readying her weapons.
"Gladly," Kuen smiled, gripping his sword in both of his hands.
"You're going to have to take a lot to top Milo and Akouo,"
"Wait, your weapons have names?"
"Yes. Just like your sword has its own."
"I see..." Kuen mentally made a note.
And so the match began, as Kuen charged at Pyrrha, sword at the ready.
As the match came to a close, Kuen gasped for air, almost collapsing onto the ground. He knew he was going to lose anyways, but he was proud of what he'd managed to do. Especially because he'd managed to get in a few surprise attacks in.
And he laid on the ground, finding himself happy with his progress. He'd gone from barely being able to land a hit to being able to land a few hits in in a few days.
Maybe that sounded worse than he should have expected.
Getting up, he noticed familiar faces.
"Why am I not surprised that you're here? Were you trailing along or something?" Kuen asked.
"Mayyybe?" Yang replied.
Both Kuen and Pyrrha couldn't help but chuckle.
"Fair." Kuen retorted.
The snow white, the one who excels at the pen and the sword.
白雪姫、ペンと刀が得意な方。
