"Hagrid?"
"I don't think so."
"Professor Flitwick?"
"Now why would he do that?"
"Professor Snape?"
"Have you even met Snape?"
"Professor Snape, Draco!"
The quartet were siting by The Black Lake, having breakfast outside the castle the next day while trying to figure out who wrote the letter. Well, Hermione, Draco, And Neville were trying. Harry was flipping through a book while nibbling on his sandwich.
"Filch?" Draco and Hermione looked at Neville as if he said that Dumbledore was a three-year-old. "Well, I'm running out of names! I've been throwing random names since Professor McGonagall! I'd like to see you doing better."
Draco held his chin, thinking. "...Ollivander?" Hermione have him a look.
"Ollivander? Really?" Draco shrugged. "Harry, help me out here- what are you even doing?"
Harry was flipping pages frantically now. Muttering "Where is it" and "I could've sword I saw it here somewhere" then he answered Hermione's question. "I'm looking for information on that mirror."
"What mirror?" asked Neville.
"The one in the room we were in yesterday."
"That dusty old mirror in the corner?" Asked Draco.
"Yup."
"What's so special about it?" Neville asked.
"When I looked at it, I didn't see me. Well, I did, but I also saw my parents. The whole family, in fact."
"WHAT?!"
Harry stopped and looked at Hermione in disbelief. "I thought you would've noticed, Hermione." Said Harry. "There was something written on it, too. Like a spell." He went back to flipping frantically. "And I know I saw it here, just where is i- Aha! The Mirror Of Erised!"
"The Mirror Of What Now?" Now all three of them looked at Hermione in disbelief. "What?"
"Okay, who are you? And what did you do to Hermione Granger?" Asked Draco. Harry shook his head and read out loud.
"The Mirror of Erised is a magical mirror that shows the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts. The name 'Erised' is 'Desire' spelled backwards, as if reflected in a mirror. It is said that the happiest and most satisfied person in the world would look in the mirror and see a reflection of them, exactly as they were, for they would then have no one and nothing more to yearn or desire for that the mirror could ever show them. But of course, it is intrinsically inherent for human nature to desire something greater than one's own self - meaning that an event wherein the mirror fails to carry out its intended purpose rarely, if at all, happens.
The writing engraved on the frame of the mirror is said to be in a foreign and probably dead language, but that isn't try. It says 'Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi,' which is 'I show not your face but your heart's desire' backwards, with the spaces rearranged."
"Oh! I get it!" Said Hermione. "So The Mirror showed you your family since that what you wanted the most."
"Sounds really cool!" Said Neville. "I wonder what it would've showed me?"
"Probably a new species of big man-eating plants or something." Draco said.
"That... Doesn't sound too bad, actually." Draco gave Neville a look that said 'You're kidding, right?'.
"Save the banter for later." Said Hermione. "Let's get back to the castle. I, for one, don't want to be late for class."
As Draco, Neville, and Hermione got up and started to walk back, Harry stayed seated, thinking about what he saw in the mirror.
He did see his family, and Hermione was right, it's what he wanted the most. But if that was the case…
…then why did he see Hermione, too?
"HARRY POTTER'S GOT THE SNITCH!" The crowd roared.
The doors opened. Someone came in. 'At the last.' They thought. 'The Library. I've been searching foe so long, and my hard work is rewarded.' They searched through the shelves.
A/N: Hmm. Someone else has gotten into my library. I thought I told her to always lock the door. Was she expecting someone else?
Heh. Breaking the rules, are we? And now, I can't even reach her.
Oh well.
Things are about to get interesting.
Also, I'm so sorry for writing a short and late chapter! It's been a rough year on everyone! But hopefully, I'll be able to write more often! I'll see you next time!
