Duel with Destiny Part 1
I don't own Digimon or Yu-Gi-Oh
A series of steady beeps were the only sound that was made in the infirmary aboard Kaiba's blimp for a few minutes, the others inside the room unable to speak as they looked at Daisuke and Mai, both young women in separate beds hooked up to some machines while the doctor checked over them.
"Big sis?" Joey whispered, standing beside Daisuke's bed with Veemon and Serenity who both were looking at the girl with worry. "Is she going to be okay?"
"Her vitals are stable. Whatever happened up on the duel arena probably just exhausted her, she'll be fine after some rest." The doctor answered with a gentle smile, he then walked over to Mai and checked on the blonde.
"And Mai, what about her? Is she going to be alright too?" Tea asked, sitting beside the other woman's bed, holding her hand.
"Hm, I believe so. I will monitor them both for the rest of the journey. Once we land, I can have her sent to a proper hospital if her condition doesn't improve." The doctor answered, looking over at Kaiba who shrugged.
"Do whatever you think is best. Can you give us a few minutes alone doc?" he asked, the doctor nodded and left the room quickly and the door slid shut behind him.
Once the door closed, Kaiba turned to the others with a frown. "Alright, now talk. What was with that barrier during the last duel? It wasn't KaibaCorp technology, so how did it appear and how did Daisuke manage to create it?" He questioned.
"It must've been Daisuke's crest," Willis muttered, making everyone turn to look at him, Kari and their Digimon before he continued. "She received the Crest of Miracles under special circumstances. A similar situation happened with my own crest; ours are the most special ones. We were told they had unique powers."
"Well, that explains the barrier she made to protect Mai." Tristan said. "But why didn't she do anything like that before?"
"We'd have to ask Gennai about that, he knows more about the Crests than we do." Kari replied.
"Gennai? Who is that?" Mokuba asked, the others also looking at her and Willis for answers when the tv in the room turned on and at first, the screen was covered in static before clearing up to show a figure's face, one that Willis and Kari both recognised.
"Gennai!" they both exclaimed in surprise, looking at the young-looking man who smiled at the two of them.
"Hello Kari, Willis, it is good to see you both again. And hello to you as well Gatomon, Veemon, Terriermon and Lopmon." He greeted, the four Digimon smiling as they stood beside the two humans.
"Nice to see you too, how's looking after the Digital World?" Veemon asked.
"It's going well, but I think that discussion can wait for another time. I believe your friends have a few questions about Daisuke and her Crest?" the guardian answered.
"You got that right, but first, how did you get on the screen. Did you hack your way in?" Mokuba questioned.
"Yes and no." Gennai replied cryptically.
"Trust us, he does this all the time. Mostly whenever he needs to talk to us about something important." Veemon told the others before turning back to Gennai who nodded.
"Alright first question, why did Daisuke's crest activate when it did to protect her and Mai?" White Veemon questioned, crossing his arms as he looked at the figure.
Gennai furrowed his brow for a moment before he spoke. "The Crest of Miracles is a unique Crest, it's powers are not fully known even to myself and the Sovereigns. For all I can tell you, it acted out on its own to protect Daisuke." He explained.
"Well, that doesn't explain much, but I suppose it's the best we've got for now until Daisuke wakes up, maybe she knows something." Lopmon suggested.
"I'll see if I can find out more from the Sovereigns and I will get back to you hopefully." Gennai told the group before the screen he was on went blank, Kaiba frowned and looked over at Daisuke in concern before the badge on his coat collar beeped.
"What is it?" he questioned, tapping it roughly not in the mood for interruptions.
"Pardon the interruption sir, but the eighth finalist has arrived at the duel arena, she is requesting the duel begin immediately." Roland informed him, Kaiba growled lowly making everyone look at him.
"Does she now? I'm on my way." He said, storming out of the room, Mokuba and White Veemon following him.
"Looks like the next duel is about to begin, we'd better go and watch." Tea said.
"We'll stay and watch over Daisuke and Mai." Serenity said, her hands on Joey's shoulders as he held Daisuke's hand.
"We'll stay too, keep you company." Kari told the siblings with a kind smile, Willis and the Digimon nodding.
"Alright, we'll be back soon." Tristan said, he and the others left the room and headed up to the duel arena. Meanwhile, Kaiba, White-Veemon were in the elevator heading up to the duel arena, Kaiba strapping his duel disk on his arm while grumbling under his breath.
"Take a breath Seto, don't let your emotions get the best of you. You need to focus on this duel with the eighth finalist if you are going to continue to the finals." His Digimon partner reminded him.
"You don't think I know that?" he questioned coldly; his eyes narrowed as he glared down at the Digimon who flinched.
His eyes softened but before he could apologise, his collar beeped again. "What is it?" he asked and Mokuba's voice came through.
"Seto, it's me. I decided to check on the progress the computers were having in decoding the ancient text on the Winged Dragon of Ra card, we have successfully downloaded it into the KaibaCorp database. We should know all of the card's secrets in no time."
"Good work." Kaiba said softly. "I want to know everything about that card so when I face Marik I can make him pay for what he did." He growled.
"You got it, after what he did to Daisuke, I want that guy to pay as well." Mokuba replied with a determined expression, the young boy sitting at a computer as it translated the ancient text on Marik's Egyptian God Card. "Daisuke will be okay right?" he then asked softly.
"Of course, she will, the best doctors on this blimp will be taking care of her and her friend." Kaiba answered, his elevator arriving at the duel arena atop the blimp. "I'll talk to you later Mokuba, I've got a duel to win."
He stepped out with White-Veemon, the duo seeing the eighth finalist waiting for them along with Marik who stood on one side away from the figure.
"Ah Mr Kaiba, you're here." Roland said respectfully.
"Skip the formalities, let's get this duel over with." Kaiba said, stepping onto the other side of the duel platform opposite the eighth finalist. "Now who are you, and what makes you think you can demand anything of me?"
The woman removed the piece of cloth over her face and Kaiba's eyes widened as did Marik's, before they narrowed in contempt. "What is she doing here?" he thought, while quashing the cries of his other half as he tried to call out to the woman.
"Let's begin, tell me, what is your name?" Roland questioned the eighth finalist as Yami, Tristan, Duke and Tea arrived.
"You may call me Ishizu. Ishizu Ishtar." She answered as Yami's eyes widened when he caught sight of the woman.
"Yami, she's the one from the museum we spoke to." Tea whispered.
"I know." He replied softly, his arms crossed, and eyes narrowed waiting to see what would happen.
"So, you're the eighth finalist, you've got a lot of nerve entering my tournament and then demanding my presence like I'm some pathetic dog." Kaiba growled.
"If I did not, you would still be fretting over matters which you have no control over. Daisuke will be fine without you beside her." Ishizu told him and he grit his teeth.
"So, you've come to take back Obelisk?" he then asked her.
"Of course, remember back in the museum, I said I would take it back from you. Today is that day. Remember, my Millennium Necklace shows me events that are yet to happen, it has shown me this duel will end in my victory." She told him, her hand gently rubbing the necklace in question.
"If your Millennium Item could show you everything that is to happen, then tell me one thing…" Kaiba trailed off. "Did it show you what would happen to Daisuke? Did you know it was going to happen?"
Ishizu frowned. "Perhaps, it did show me glimpses of this tournament so far." She answered cryptically.
That was enough for Kaiba, he growled lowly and glared at the woman. "Roland, start this duel right now." He ordered, the man nodding quickly.
"Begin now!" he shouted, Kaiba activated his duel disk and his life-points climbed to 4000.
"Alright, I will make this quick. I'm going to crush you and then make Marik grovel at my feet for what he's done."
Ishizu activated her own duel disk as her life-points reached 4000 and she closed her eyes. "My necklace tells me Kaiba's anger over what happened will be his downfall, unless he sees the light before it's too late." She thought.
Both drew their starting hands before Kaiba drew another card. "I'll go first, I don't need a necklace to foresee your demise. I summon Vorse Raider!" his monster appeared in front of him in a flash of bright crimson light.
"Next he'll set a card face down." Ishizu thought, Kaiba doing just that as her necklace predicted. "My Millennium Necklace will foresee your every move and you will suffer defeat." She said softly.
"Kaiba may be a skilled duelist but he's no match for a Millennium Item." Yami thought.
"I summon Keldo, in defence mode." Ishizu said, summoning her monster to the field with her eyes closed. The monster had 1200 Attack points and 1600 Defence points.
"Whoa, check that out. She summoned it without even looking at it." Tristan said in amazement.
"Her Millennium Necklace allows her to see events before they happen." Yami said.
"So, she knows everything before it happens." Tea said.
"Doesn't this seem kind of familiar, like Mai's trick at Duelist Kingdom with the perfume and everything?" Tristan asked.
"Yes, but I can assure you that this is no trick. Her powers are very much real." Yami answered.
"What these fools don't realise is that my sister's powers have limits." Marik thought.
"I will now activate a powerful magic card." Ishizu said, opening her eyes as she played her card. "Michizure of Doom."
"Oh no, that allows her to discard any two cards from my hands. But I can do the same to her." Kaiba thought.
"I choose Polymerisation and Kaiser Glider." Ishizu said.
"She couldn't possibly know I had those cards in my hand, unless she's cheating." Kaiba thought, discarding the two cards. "Enough trickery, show me your cards right now!" Ishizu did so without delay. "You will regret playing that magic card, time for you to discard Revival Magic and Monster Reborn!"
"Very well." Ishizu said, discarding the two cards. "That ends my turn."
Marik watched the duel with a twisted smirk. "I remember her dueling tactics all too well, she may have defeated me when I was a weak child. But now she wouldn't stand a chance against me." He thought, noticing Ishizu look at him for a moment.
"I know the good in my brother is still within him. In the name of my family, he will be saved." She thought.
Kaiba drew his next card. "Vorse Raider destroy her Keldo now!" he shouted, his monster charging and slashing through Ishizu's monster destroying it. "Looks like your future isn't looking so bright after all, maybe if you spent more time on dueling, you wouldn't be losing."
"You still don't understand, I can foresee every twist and turn this duel will take. And I know how you will lose this duel." Ishizu said calmly.
"Tch, if you think I'm going to fall for your mind games like some imbecile, you're seriously underestimating me." Kaiba replied, looking at his cards. "I have the perfect plan, with the magic card, Shrink and the Crush Card Virus trap card I have on the field, I'll be able to completely devastate her deck. She won't see this coming." He thought with a smirk.
"I still think this is going to be a tough duel, Ishizu may be able to see the future but Kaiba has an Egyptian God Card." Tea said.
"I now place one more card face down on the field and end my turn." Kaiba said, setting another card.
"Just as I expected, this card will come in handy later." Ishizu said as she drew her next card. "I now summon Mudora, in attack mode." Her new monster appeared, a warrior with dark skin wearing Egyptian style clothing and wielding a sharp blade and it had 1500 Attack points and 1800 Defence points. "My Millennium Necklace has shown me that Kaiba will attempt to win this duel using Obelisk the Tormentor, but he shall fall by my hand and Kaiba will lose this duel and I will be one step closer to saving my brother." She thought.
"What's the hold up?" Kaiba questioned.
"Patience Kaiba." Ishizu replied.
"I have little of that tonight. I am done wasting time dealing with you, hurry up. I want to crush you and end that psycho Marik quickly." Kaiba replied with a growl.
Ishizu's eyes narrowed at him. "How dare you speak ill about my family." She thought before continuing her turn. "I now play the equip spell, Sword of Dogra, this will increase Mudora's attack points by 500." She said, her monster's weapon being replaced by two sharp single-handed knives as its attack points climbed to 2000. "Now attack his Vorse Raider."
Her monster let out a battle cry as it charged Kaiba's monster. "Why thank you, face down cards activate. First, the magic card Shrink, this will cut my Vorse Raiser's attack points in half." He said, a red mist seeping into his monster which shrunk in size as its attack points fell to 950.
"In order for Kaiba to use his Crush Card Virus, he had to weaken his own monster first." Yami thought, watching as Mudora slashed into Vorse Raider, the monster's body unleashing the deadly virus.
"As if that weren't enough, watch as my Crush Card Virus card destroys your monster as well as every other strong monster in your entire deck." Kaiba said with a smirk, watching as the virus seeped into Ishizu's deck while his life-points fell to 2950. "If you could see that coming, why didn't you stop me from destroying every monster with 1500 or more attack points in your deck?"
"Yes, I know." Ishizu said, taking out her deck and discarding the monsters affected by Kaiba's virus. "But know this, I won't need a powerful monster to stop you. I now play Swords of Revealing Light, this will stop you from attacking for three whole turns." Her magic card activated, and the magical swords of light rained down over Kaiba's side of the field.
"Why are you stalling? If you think I'm going to lose you shouldn't be so scared of what I do next." He told her.
"I am not stalling, fate dictates our moves Kaiba, and fate decrees you will lose." Ishizu told him.
"Well, I have a prediction of my own. In three turns when your Swords of Revealing Light vanish, I'll crush you with my Egyptian God Card." He replied.
"If you are so sure of that, then very well. I place a card face down and end my turn." Ishizu said.
Kaiba looked at his hand as he drew another card and smirked. "Virus Cannon, perfect, she may have stopped my monsters from attacking. But I can still use this card to disable her deck." He thought.
"Watching my dear sister toy with Kaiba's mind is amusing, I always knew she had a dark side." Marik thought.
"It's my turn. I summon Dark Gremlin, in Attack mode." Kaiba said, summoning a monster to the field, a hideous looking monster with 1600 Attack points and 1800 Defence points appeared in front of him, hissing and snarling.
"Ew, that is one nasty looking monster." Tea thought, recoiling at the sight of it.
"Now I set this card face down to end my turn." Kaiba said, setting Virus Cannon in his duel disk.
"I draw a card, but I won't need it yet. So, I end my turn." Ishizu said.
"How sad, you stop me from attacking but you can't destroy me. It seems your prediction was wrong Ishizu." Kaiba taunted.
"I'm afraid you are mistaken. You will draw the card to your defeat in two more turns." Ishizu said and Kaiba growled.
"Don't give me any of that, the only cards I will draw will be powerful monsters that will crush you." He told her, drawing his next card before passing his turn.
Ishizu then drew another card before ending her turn. "Now then, make your move. Your end is near."
"You fascinate me, you speak so much about your victory. But rather than do anything to secure it, you've done nothing but stall and prattle on and on about fate and next turn your swords will be gone allowing me to strike you down once and for all Ishizu." Kaiba said, drawing his next card before passing his turn.
Ishizu drew her next card. "My Sacrifice's Blast trap card will seal his fate in my next turn. My Millennium Necklace was indeed correct." She thought.
"For three whole turns you've done nothing but stall, it is time I end this duel and prove to you once and for all that fate doesn't control me." Kaiba said, the Swords of Revealing Light vanishing from around him and his monster. He then drew his next card and he smirked at seeing it was Obelisk the Tormentor, the very card Ishizu had given to him before Battle City began. "Dark Gremlin, attack her life-points directly!"
His monster roared and charged Ishizu, slashing her with its claws and her life-points fell to 2400. "I bet you didn't see that one coming, and my Dark Gremlin is the least of your worries. Soon I will unleash the very card you gave me Ishizu, my Egyptian God Card will end this duel in my victory. And with you out of the way, nothing will stop me from making Marik pay for what he's done." He told the woman, an image of Obelisk the Tormentor briefly appearing behind him.
