"You did what," He asked, looking up from his paperwork in his overly large office which overlooked a large busy city.
"I put in a request for a nanny," His wife stated, looking at her watch.
"We do not require a nanny Kagura." His voice was darkening a little.
"The child does not like me, and your work pulls you away, I did not sign up to be a single mother to a-
"Careful woman."
So their marriage was built solely on politics and diplomacy, but they were still married. She had been barren, which he was not displeased over; she was too self-absorbed, and he knew she would turn out just like his own mother.
But he did want children, and he did need a child.
His father brought up adoption, and Kagura had been fine with that, but then his father stated they should adopt a human child. At first, they both agreed, no. But with Sesshomaru's track record and lawsuits, his father stressed that this would be a good move and strength the demon human alliance. The government was already tightening the string.
However, Sesshomaru was not one to bend to other people's wills, yet they had agreed to look into it only. His father reminded him that this would be a great blessing to a human child.
His father was a do-gooder, something Sesshomaru did not inherit thankfully.
So they went to an agency for humans. Most of the kids either jumped at their feet or feared them totally.
But he noticed one child, a little girl. She hid and would peek out at him ever so often. They came and went a few times, and each time she would get a little closer but never fully show herself.
He had asked about her. She had been abused and left for dead by her own family. She didn't speak, and kids didn't like her. They told him that he didnt want her. But one day, he showed up without Kaugra, and while the rest of the kids were out playing, he sat down, and sure enough, she slowly came to him.
"How did you get those bruises," He asked her,
She just tucked her head to the side. "You dont have to tell me," He responded and then closed his eyes.
She then sat next to him, her arm touching his making him open his eyes. He looked down; she mimicked the way he sat. One leg stretched out, and one bent.
He decided then and there he wanted her.
He texted his wife, who blew him off and said, 'fine whatever.'
She could not be bothered, apparently just like now.
"You are her mother," He told her,
"Sesshomaru!" She snapped, "I didn't even sign the paperwork, and she doesn't call me that!" She snapped more, "Now be home by 6; we will be meeting with a few ladies."
"Rin will be displeased."
"She is 6; I dont care if she is displeased; she does not like me."
Rin adored him, called him father, but Kagura was Kagura, and neither female talked to each other unless they had to.
"Are you afraid of our child?"
"Stop calling it ours."
"Stop calling her it," He snapped. "She is my ward."
"Make sure you do not forget that!"
She twirled around and left him, slamming his door on her way.
Damn it if he didnt hate that woman. He had not to be laid in 5 months, ever since they discovered she could not have her own. They had only had Rin for 3 months.
He didn't like this, but perhaps she was right. He was working a lot, and Rin didn't much trust Kagura.
So he arrived home a 5:55 pm and the meetings started.
He hated every last one, and Rin didn't seem too please either. They were either too young, too old, too stupid, or too scary.
Then there was a knock.
"I thought we were,e though," He asked his wife.
Kagura rolled her eyes and opened the door.
Then there she was "Hi, sorry to bother you-
"We dont want any; what are you homeless? Have you no shame, girl?"
"I um, no it's not-
"Ugh, Sesshomaru deal with this!"
Kaugra walked off, and Sesshomaru opened the door wider, "Kagome?" He asked, confused to see her there.
"Hi!" She smiled brightly,
"What are you doing here?" He had not seen her since she dated his dumb ass brother in high school; they could be married for all he knew.
"Where is Inuyasha?" He looked past her
"Ummm, probably with his wife?" She said slowly,
He didnt have time to respond; Rin threw herself out the door, "Miss Kagome!"
Kagome caught the girl, "Hiya Rin!"
"This Rin has missed you! Why did you go away!" She pouted,
"Im sorry, Rin, my grandfather got sick, and I had to help him, but that's why I am here." Kagome pulled out a box covered in fake jewels; it was a shoebox. "I wanted to give you this; it was under my desk." Kagome had been an aid at Rin's school. Kagome had been shocked to hear that Sesshomaru of all people adopted Rin. Small world.
"Our secret box!" Rin took it happily as could be, "But, why are you giving it to me? Are you not coming back?"
Kagome gave her a soft smile, "Sorry, Rin, they filled my position im afraid while I was away."
Rin started to sniffle, "But Rin doesn't want you to go away."
"I'll, I'll come a visit and you can Shippo can have play dates, im sure if your-
"Father," Rin tugged his pants. "Cant we hire Kagome to be my nanny."
Kagome finally looked up, "Nanny?"
It wasn't a horrible idea. He somewhat knew her. Sure it had been like 8 years, but he knew her and trusted her.
"We are looking for a full-time nanny for Rin."
"Full time?" She asked; he noted her concern.
"My work keeps my wife and me," He paused. "Social obligations."
The look on her face totally said she wasn't buying that; he didnt care.
"Please Kagome, please!" Rin said,
"Rin enough," He stated, calmed. He pulled out a card and handed it to her. "Meet me at noon tomorrow here if you are interested, we will go over details."
Kagome took the card and looked at it, "Um."
"Please, Miss Kagome, Rin loves you!"
Kagome blushed and patted her head. "Well, since you put it like that, ill go visit your dad tomorrow, K."
Rin was thrilled.
"Bedtime Rin."
Rin hugged Kagome and woohoo her way up the large grand staircase.
"She's sweet."
Kagome looked back at him. "Sorry to just show up unannounced." She started to fiddle.
"I was unaware you worked at her school."
"I was finishing up school and was doing it on the side; I like kids."
"So, you and my brother did not marry?"
She pushed on of her low pig tales forward. She was wearing a large ugle coat that covered her "We dated when I was 15, that was a long time ago."
"I am aware."
"I wanted kids, he didnt."
He rose an eyebrow,
She looked at her watch. "Oh, wow, it's getting late."
Just as she said, the cabby driver honked, "I have to go,"
"Allow me-
She put her hands up. "No, no, Im good, thank you though." She backed down the steps,
"Then, I shall see you tomorrow?"
She stopped. "Oh, um, yes if you're serious,"
"I am always serious."
Of that, she was well aware.
