Today was the day. The day Dom went to meet the agency to talk about the adoption. He was full of nerves. He took the day off as a holiday from work to wake early and have a relaxing morning getting ready. He hasn't told anyone what he was going to be doing on his day off he usually did but for some reason he wanted this a secret.
He woke up early, had breakfast and showered nice and fresh for the day ahead putting on something suitable for a meeting. A white shirt and black trousers, nothing too extra, just casual. He headed out with his stuff and decided to walk to his destination. It was a nice day and he was in a good mood.
By 8am he arrived at the adoption agency. It wasn't that busy. He was quite glad he didn't walk into anyone who knew him to avoid the questions. He made his way in and walked up to the front desk "hi i have an appointment at 8:15 ..? " he said very formally
"Mr Copeland ?" the very cheerful lady asked as she typed on her computer
"Yes " he smiled a her
"That's great if you'd like to take a seat in the waiting area. Mr. Thomas will be with you soon." she said back with a smile gesturing to the small waiting area in the corner
"Thank you" dom said and made his way over to the waiting area and sat down on one of the chairs nervously waiting for his name to be called
20 minutes passed
"Mr Dominic Copeland ?" a low deep voice spoke out through the room dom stood up and headed over to the man who was wearing a suit.. "Hello Mr Copeland" he smiled at him holding his hand out for Dom to shake. Dom shook his hand "please.. Call me dom" he said with a smile and made his way into the office sitting down on the chair opposite the desk
"So dom.. I've read your application and been told about the phone call you had a few days ago and there's only one thing that stands out to me.." mr thomas said as he sat down in his chair
Dom knew what it was .. it was obvious
"The fact you're single and would be raising a child alone..a few questions also concerns flag up to that" he said "you're a full time doctor working at holby city hospital .. the frontline .. would you have time for a child? To give them love, care and support through the biggest change in their life?" he asked
"Yes I do work full time .. but I am able to request time off and part time hours to support them .. being a single parent i don't think should be avoided it means that i will have more love and time to focus on my child than a partner if i had them.. More time to help them settle and understand whats going on around them i believe i will be a good parent and i have supportive family that would help me if needed" he explained with a lot of confidence knowing anges heart would melt if she found out she had a grandchild as would caroles
"Okay .. and your home? Tell me about how suitable you think your home is" the older man asked
"Well it's a three bedroom flat on the second floor of the building.. No balcony..i already have child locks on all cupboards from when my best friend needed a place to stay with her toddler for a while back and i never got rid of them" he said talking about zosia and her son arthur. Dom absolutely loved it when they lived there for a while and it broke his heart when she said she was leaving and when they left he felt so alone. The quiet apartment felt cold and that was when he started to consider it all
"Okay so if i was to say that i would send out a social worker to come and inspect your house would you be confident about it ?" mr thomas asked he seemed to grow to like dom and his confidence
"Yes.. yes i would" he said with a smile
"Okay then .. what will happen then.. Is next Tuesday a good time for you?" he asked
"Yeah that sounds great" dom replied cheerfully you could tell in his voice he was excited about all this
"Okay then dom i think that will be all for now" the man said standing up to take him to the door dom was so grateful for the time and walked with him shaking his hand
"Thank you so much" dom said very satisfied with what was happening

The visit from the social worker was done and gone and a very positive result came out of it and Dom couldn't be happier and his happiness was beginning to grow concerning to Donna not that it was a bad thing but she wanted to know what was going on to make him so cheerful
Dom practicality was skipping on the ward all day. It had become a tad irritating to work colleagues. How could he be so cheerful?
"Dom whatever you've had for breakfast please give me some" donna said as dom came skipping over putting patient notes down on the nurses desk
"Just a good day donna thats all woke up in a good mood today is a great day" he smiled at her just so happy
"Why is it such a good day ...oh shit it's not your birthday is it ? oh my god i completely forgot im so sorry dom you know with work and the girls at home i don't even know what day it is anymore" she said in a panic coming up with everything that she could use as excuses and dom just gigged
"No no no… Donna it's not my Birthday" he chucked and that left Donna guilt free but confused why was he so happy
"Then what is it" she asked just so curious
"Nothing … it's nothing… I'm just in a really really good mood!" he grinned and then left the nurses station to get back to work
Later that day he was in theatre with ange still looking cheerful
"Why are you so Smitten?" Ange looked at him briefly while working on the patient
"I got some news .. good news that i'm not gonna tell anyone yet .." he said honestly smiling under his mask
"Oh go on you can tell me" she said now was desperate to know
"Nope.. im not telling anyone .. and its kinda a surprise for you and chloe" he grinned
"Oh fine… but i will have you know i hate surprises" she announced
"Oh you will like this one i know you will" he said as they finished up and went to scrub out
When Dom got home that night he was chilling on the sofa watching tv and his phone went off ...his heart stopped when he recognized the number .. the agency..
"Hello?" he said as he answered the phone
"Hello Mr Copeland sorry to call you so late.. And out of the blue but we do have a match for you…" the man on the phone said
Dom's heart raced …
