POTUS

A/N: Final chapter, Lovelies. Hope you enjoy!

President Alexandra Danvers was over halfway through her first presidential term, and she was busier than ever, but today was extra important so, at eight on the dot, she was standing outside of SAC Lee's office, waiting for her to finish a phone call. The door was open, so she leaned against its jamb, smiling sexily at her lover who, after a moment of gazing back at her, realized she had no clue what the person on the other end of the line was talking about.

"Uh… Jack… sorry, can I call you back later on?" she said, not waiting for an answer and putting the phone down in its cradle as the grinning president stepped into the room and closed the door behind her.

"Happy anniversary and good morning, Baby," Alex said, crossing the room and kissing her lover gently on the lips. "Did you sleep well?"

Kara sighed happily as she returned the kiss. "Happy anniversary... and you know I don't sleep well when I'm not with you."

"Then you know what you have to do," the president chuckled.

The agent nodded. "Ok, let's do it."

Dark eyebrows lifted. "Ok? Like… Ok ok? Just like that?"

Kara smiled and hugged her lover close, kissing her forehead. "Just like that. Alex, I'm truly, honestly so happy with you and I think it's more than reasonable for me to move in after two years together. Even for the press."

A huge smile spread across the president's face. "When?"

Kara chuckled. "How about I give notice to my landlord tomorrow and start bringing some stuff over?"

"You already have a couple of drawers here," Alex teased. "I suppose I can make some space in my closet for you."

"Honey, your closet is half empty anyway," the blonde pointed out with a little laugh. "I don't have enough clothes to fill the empty space either."

"We're really doing this, Kara Lee Warren?" the president asked again.

"Yes, Alexandra Danvers," Kara nodded. "We're doing this." She sighed then. "I should get going. I promised Mom I wouldn't be late."

Alex nodded slowly and sucked in a breath. "I wish I could be there to see him sent down for the rest of his miserable life." She hugged her girlfriend tightly. "Give your mom my love."

"I will. Oh, hey, I heard from Mizrahi," Kara said, snapping her fingers. "The operation went according to plan and the remaining Czarni Rycerze members have been taken into custody. They'll stand trial for all the deaths in Geneva, along with all the other illegal operations they were involved in. I don't think any of them are getting out of prison anytime soon and, if they do, they have other countries to answer to as well as the United States."

"That's fantastic news," the president replied on a deep exhale. "I finally feel like we can breathe after all this time." She lifted onto her toes a little to kiss her girlfriend. "Now go on and let me know as soon as sentencing is done."

"Bye," the agent smiled as she headed out, leaving a delighted president to steal some Swiss chocolate from her desk drawer and happily stroll back to the Oval Office.

Rowena was ready with her coat on when Kara came into the hallway of her childhood home and shut the door behind her. It was weird, seeing everything packed in boxes but the agent knew that her mother was doing what she had to do. Newly divorced from who she'd come to call her ratbag husband, Rowena no longer wanted to live in the house she'd shared with him and had decided to get a place for herself and to make new memories with her daughter there. The sentencing hearing had been conveniently scheduled for the day before the closing on her new apartment and she was looking forward to letting Russell know that the house he'd taken so much pride in, was no longer his.

Unbeknownst to anyone else, Kara also had something to show him.

"Hi, Sweetie," the older woman said as her daughter hugged her. Then she pulled back to look at her. "You look beautiful and happy," she said.

"I'm officially moving in with Alex," Kara replied with a grin. "So yeah, I'm kinda ecstatic."

Rowena's face lit up and she slapped her daughter's arm playfully. "Well, it's about time, Young Lady!"

"Today is our two-year anniversary." She sighed then. "I guess we'll never forget the day of the Geneva attack. I've been thinking a lot about the agents we lost that day. Goliath, in particular. I've tried to visit Rachel, but she still won't see me. Little Alan is coming up on two now."

"So many lives ruined," Rowena said softly, shaking her head. "Oh, how's Cat doing?"

Kara's face eased into a big smile. "She's great. I'm not sure Alex has recovered from the news yet but, she's happy that Cat's retiring to move with her family. She's going to be high on the hog down in Florida. She'll be running things in the housing community in no time." She smiled a little. "Alex is just happy that she got to have Cat back for the last year. She really missed her."

"Cat's a really good person. She deserves the world," the older woman nodded.

"She does," Kara agreed. "Ok, well, we should get going. Session starts at ten and it's eight-forty-five now."

But Rowena reached out to caress her daughter's cheek. "Are you really ok, Honey? I worry about you."

Kara sighed with a little smile. "It's been a long road this past year, Mama, but therapy has been going well, I love my job and I love you and Alex. I can't really ask for much more, can I?"

"I guess not," the older woman replied. "Aright, let's get this shitshow over with."

Rowena followed her daughter to her BMW and slid into the passenger seat. "You know, Mom," Kara said casually as she settled into the driver's seat. "If Alex and I get married, you'll be eligible for Secret Service protection."

"Oh no, thank you, Honey," the older woman replied with a grimace. "I value my privacy too much. Besides, no one will care about some old woman who just happens to be the First Lady's mother."

"Huh..." the agent said.

Rowena laughed softly. "Kara, you do realize that the president's wife..."

"No, I know, just... wow. To hear someone else say it like that. I'd become FLOTUS." Kara started the car and pulled out into the street, heading downtown. "So weird. First Lady Kara Danvers."

"You'd change your name completely?"

"Yeah. I like the sound of Kara Danvers."

Rowena just chuckled.

Kara's and Rowena's eyes were on Russell Warren as he was led into the courtroom and seated at the defendant's table next to his lawyer. He was dressed in a suit, as if he wasn't going away for a very long time, and Kara snorted her disgust as he looked over his shoulder at them and winked.

"Do you think he thinks he's actually NOT going to get the maximum penalty after three assassination attempts on the president?" Kara whispered to her mother.

"I think he'd be delusional to think that, after hearing your testimony," Rowena replied. "But let him have his fun."

Kara blew out a long breath, then stood with everyone else in the ourtroom as the federal judge entered and stepped up into his seat.

"Court is in session. The Right Honorable Hank Henshaw presiding. Please be seated." The bailiff stepped back and took his seat and the judge looked around the room as everyone got settled.

"Ladies and Gentlemen," Justice Henshaw said, his deep voice filling the room. "I've been deeply troubled by this case. However, my decision on sentencing was an easy one." He looked at Warren. "Mr. Warren, the charges against you are numerous but there are four that stand out in my mind and those are, the three attempts on President Danvers' life and the murder of Lena Warren, your own daughter-in-law."

Warren snorted uncaringly and leaned back in his chair with his arms folded. Rowena put her hand on her daughter's thigh as she felt her tense up. Kara wanted to jump over the divider, strangle her father herself and be done with it.

"It's ok, Honey," Rowena whispered, taking the agent's hand and squeezing it firmly.

"Please rise, Mr. Warren." Henshaw waited for the man and his lawyer to get to their feet. "For those crimes alone, I sentence you to four consecutive life sentences in federal prison. And for the crimes of terrorism, blackmail, embezzlement, attempted murder and the numerous others on this docket, I sentence you to an additional four hundred and sixty-five years. I am also ordering no possibility of parole."

Kara's breath hitched and she slumped in her chair as Warren sputtered out a protest. "Your Honor, I did what I did for my country! To maintain the order and traditions laid down for us by our forefathers and by the constitution of the United States of America."

"Even while you believe that to be true," Justice Henshaw replied. "The end does not justify the means in any way. You murdered your daughter's wife, Mr. Warren. That alone is contrary to law." Henshaw slammed down his gavel. "Court is adjourned. Take the prisoner away."

The bailiff placed cuffs and shackles on Warren and took his arm to lead him away, as the judge exited the courtroom, but he resisted and turned to look at Kara. "This is your fault," he snarled. "You are no daughter of mine."

But the agent just laughed incredulously. "You're full of shit, Russell, and hey, I have some good news for you." She dug in her pocket and pulled out a small black velvet box, which she opened, tipping it closer to show him the contents. "Despite your best efforts, you weren't able to keep Alex and I apart. I'm asking her to marry me today and we're going to spend the rest of our lives happy together, while you ROT in a FUCKING JAIL CELL!"

Warren's eyes grew impossibly colder. "You'll never be happy living as an abomination to God," he spat back at her and then led the bailiff toward the exit to the holding cells.

"Oh… and by the way, Russell… I sold the house." Rowena wrapped her arm around her daughter's waist and shook her head as her ex-husband glared back over his shoulder at her. "He's not the man I married. I just don't understand what happened to him."

"Radicalized? Closeted homophobe?" Kara replied. "Or maybe closeted-gay shame? Who the hell knows?" Then she turned the ring box to show her mom. "Think Alex will like it?"

The older woman took in the gold band set with a beautiful two-carat, round-cut diamond. "I think she's going to love it," she replied. Then she hugged her daughter hard, stroking her hair. "I'm so proud of you, Kara."

"Thanks, Mama," the agent replied with a grin as they started the walk back to the car and pulled out her phone to send a message to her girlfriend.

"Ready?" Winn asked softly as he met Rowena and a terrified Kara outside the door to the Oval Office.

"I think I'm gonna throw up," the agent said, looking a bit pale.

The man laughed softly. "Honey, haven't you done this before?"

"No," the agent shook her head. "Lena proposed to me."

Cat came to join them sharing a hug with the tall agent and rubbing her back encouragingly. "Since I know there's no way on Earth she'll say no, I think it's going to be ok."

Just then, the door of the office opened, and Alex came out, stopping dead when she saw her family loitering outside the door. Kara quickly held the ring box behind her back. "What's happening?" she asked suspiciously. "Why do you all look so weird?"

Cat was the first to recover. "Oh, we were just talking about coffee. Want some?"

"Uh... sure... thanks," the president replied. "I also wanted those reports on the states that still have anti-LGBTQ+ laws."

"I'll bring them in with the coffee," Cat confirmed.

Alex eyed them for a moment longer, then nodded. "Ok, thanks." She went back into the office and closed the door.

Kara almost spit her brains out her ears. "Oh my God," she said. "Thank you, Cat."

The older woman chuckled. "Better get that coffee for everyone so we can get this show on the road."

Kara looked like she might throw up again. Rowena chuckled softly. "I'll help you, Cat. Kara, sit down before you fall down."

"Yes, Ma'am," the agent replied sheepishly and took a seat in one of Cat's guest chairs, breathing deeply until her head had stopped spinning.

Winn chuckled softly, hardly believing how adorable Kara was. The woman would walk into all kinds of danger with a smile on her face, but a little marriage proposal was sending her into a tailspin. "She's loved you longer than you realize," he said. "And she'll love you forever. Honestly, Kara, you have nothing to worry about."

"I know," the agent replied. "I just want to make her happy and I'm scared she won't like the ring."

"Dude, it's from you. OF COURSE she'll love it." The chief of staff patted her shoulder. "Now pull up your big girl panties and get ready. Cat and your mom are back."

"Ok, right." The agent got up and took a deep, calming breath. Then she smiled and accepted a cup for Alex and herself. "Here we go," she said as she went to the door of the Oval Office and pushed it open, leading the family inside.

"Hey," Alex said as she got up to move to the seating group and accept her coffee from her girlfriend and drop a little kiss on her lips. "Thanks for this. I really needed a break." She moved to take a seat, but Kara held out her hand in invitation.

"Actually... um... I wanted to talk to you for a second. Mind if we step outside?"

Alex smiled and took her lover's hand, lacing their fingers together. "Sure," she said, leaving her mug next to Kara's on the table and following her out into the garden walkway.

They strolled along the path for a while just smiling at each other until they made it to the flower bed that held a certain memory for the agent. She stopped them and brought Alex's hand to her lips to kiss it. "This is where I fell in love with you," she said softly. "That first time we stopped at this flower bed. Remember?"

"How could I forget?" the president replied just as quietly. "I wanted to kiss you so badly. Winn teased me mercilessly about the level of eye-fucking between us."

"He wasn't wrong," the agent laughed. "I tried so hard to not act on what I was feeling but..."

"It became impossible not to," Alex finished, and Kara nodded.

"I love you so much, Alex, and I'm so excited to be moving in here with you... but there's one thing that would make me happier than I thought I could ever be after losing Lena."

Dark eyebrows lifted and then brown eyes widened as Kara pulled something out of her pocket and lowered herself to one knee. She ignored the fact that the family were all crowded together at the corner of the walkway watching with bated breath, and just concentrated on not passing out.

"Kara, oh my God," Alex whispered, her hand moving to cover her mouth.

"Alexandra Danvers, love of my life... will you marry me?"

"YES!" Alex exclaimed. "Oh my God! Yes, Kara!" The agent slid the ring onto her lover's finger and then laughed as the president pulled her to her feet to hug and kiss her to within an inch of her life. "I love you so much."

"Do you like it?" Kara whispered.

Alex pulled back a tad to fully take her ring in and then nodded, tears welling in her eyes. "I love it. It's beautiful," she replied, also choked up with emotion. "It's perfect."

"Good," Kara smiled. Then she rolled her eyes and took Alex's hand. "C'mon, Baby, let's go tell the others that I made it through the most terrifying moment of my life so far."

The president laughed heartily. "Did you really worry that I'd say no? Kara!"

But the agent shook her head. "No... I wasn't worried about that. I was more worried about messing the proposal up in the first place."

As they turned the corner of the walkway, they were met with screams and whoops of delight and Alex laughed as a thousand hugs were exchanged.

"She said yes," Kara said with a happy grin and her mother lightly punched her shoulder.

"Of course she did!"

They all moved back into the Oval Office to take their seats and finish their coffee as Alex showed her ring off. Kara curled around her on the couch and held her close. "I love you," she whispered, and the president looked at her with so much adoration that it brought tears to her eyes again.

"I love you too," Alex replied, nuzzling their noses together. "Forever."

"Wow, dinner was amazing," Alex said as she led Kara into their bedroom and closed the door behind them. "Thank you for arranging everything, Baby."

"Cat was invaluable," the agent admitted. "She knew stuff about engagement parties that I never even thought of."

"I'll miss her so much," the president replied. "I don't know what I'll do without her now." She slipped out of her dress and hung it on a hanger for dry cleaning later, but she smiled as Kara came up behind her and wrapped her arms around her, ducking her head a little to trail kisses down her neck. "You are the most beautiful woman in the world, Alex. And I'm the luckiest."

"Mmm... I might have to fight you for the title of luckiest," the president teased, tilting her head to give her lover more access to her skin. Then she turned and walked the younger woman back toward the bed, undoing buttons and zips and catches until her clothes were discarded too. Then she paused to take in the muscular beauty before her and shook her head. "Sorry, I win," she stated. "I'm definitely the luckiest."

Kara slowly got to her knees and took Alex's hand, bringing her engagement ring to her lips to kiss it and then wrapping her arms around the president's slender hips, kissing her way teasingly down her stomach and then grasping the lacy material of her panties in her teeth. She growled playfully, making Alex laugh, and then slowly eased the scrap of lace down.

The president's breathing hitched, and she let her fingers run sensually through her fiancée's hair, massaging her scalp as lips and tongue explored over her skin and then places more intimate as gentle hands eased her thighs apart. "Kara," she moaned, already trembling with need. "Bed... please..."

The agent smiled as she got up and eased her lover down onto the soft mattress. "What do you want?" she asked softly as she joined Alex, dropping little kisses on her breasts. "Do you want my mouth on you? Or my fingers inside you? Or maybe some action with a toy?"

"Yes," Alex stated with an adorable little grin.

Kara laughed. "The night is young, right?" she said with a waggle of her brows.

"Just... start with kissing me," the president requested, stroking her fingertips down her fiancée's cheek as she gazed into her eyes. "Never stop kissing me, Kara."

"Yes, Madam President," the agent replied as she very happily obliged.
