"-and that's why I always carry a container of lube with me wherever I go" Dust E Coyote finished explaining. Tech rubbed his temples, deeply exasperated and embarrassed by the nature of the story she had just told.
"Mother, those sorts of stories really do not need to be shared, especially when we have guests over" he said forcefully, setting down the plates and silver wear on their small table. This was exactly the sort of reason they had picked up food on the way over as opposed to stopping by first. From Tech's perspective, every moment someone spent with his mother present, the higher their chances of being scared for life by something they had no desire to know.
"I'm sorry you had to hear that" Tech said to Rev's younger brother Rip, who was standing across from him on the other side of the table.
"Oh it's… it's alright" Rip winced, trying to come off as polite, "I mean, I'm in high school. It's not like I haven't heard worse. At least I think." The youngest of the Runner family was normally the most reserved and standoffish, but even he was unable to act cool after hearing something like that. Tech quite honestly had no idea how Rev had managed to convince him to bring his brother along, nor did he understand what possible reason there was to bring him to his mother's apartment other than as some method of obscene torture.
He tried to recall what had happened yesterday. Rev had been pestering him in the lab, clinging onto his leg as he had done back during the robo-amigo incident.
"Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease!" Rev begged as Tech attempted to work on one of his inventions.
"If you're going to bug me, the least you could do is tell me what you want" the coyote said, looking down at the roadrunner.
"Oh, right" Rev stood up embarrassed, "I've been worried about my brother lately. It feels like it's been forever since I last saw him. The only times we really get to talk are during our sparse phone calls and texts. Even then, I have no way of knowing whether or not my Pa is looking over his shoulder. I just want to meet him in person so that we can have an actual conversation."
"And… how do I factor into all of this?" Tech asked. After all, this seemed like the sort of thing Rev could handle by himself. He was always willing to stand by his side and be a supportive boyfriend, but this was a situation where he simply saw no need for his involvement.
"Well… here's the thing" Rev began.
Oh great, Tech thought to himself, there was a thing. It was never a good sign when a thing was involved.
Rev continued, "I-can't-just-go-and-visit-him-since-he-still-lives-with-the-parents-so-naturally-I-thought-I-would-just-bring-him-here-to-Loonatics-tower-but-then-I-thought-that-if-my-parents-got-suspicious-then-this-would-be-one-of-the-first-places-they-would-look. So-then-I-thought-we-could-maybe-go-out-to-a-restaurant-or-something-but-I-knew-with-my-status-we-would-very-quickly-attract-the-paparazzi. Long story short, I need a private location that neither my parents nor the press will know about."
"Well, that's very nice Rev" Tech said, "but I fail to see how…" Suddenly it hit him. He swiveled around on his work bench so that he could properly look his boyfriend in the eyes.
"If you're thinking what I think your thinking" Tech grit his teeth, "then the answer is no."
"Oh, c'mon babe!" Rev pleaded, "It'll just be a few hours of me and Rip at your mother's place and then we'll be out of your hair, erm-fur!" He clasped his hands together, getting down on his knees. Tech stood up, an unamused expression on his face, pulling the bird to his feet as he did so.
"First of all, please don't beg like this anymore. It's really weird now that we're dating" Tech stated.
"Right."
"Secondly, while I'm sympathetic to you're plight, there's no way I'm letting your brother anywhere near my mother. It's for his own good."
"Oh, but Tech!"
"Don't 'but Tech' me, I've made up my mind." The coyote walked away, about to leave the lab. Rev knew he needed some way to convince him, and fast.
"Ok… but just one more thing?"
"What is it?" Tech stopped, glancing back at the bird. Rev batted his eyelashes, he looked to his boyfriend with the biggest, wateriest eyes he could muster.
"Please?" Rev asked sweetly. Tech gave a lengthy, beleaguered sigh, before taking his paw and dragging it down his own face out of frustration. Why did this always work on him?
"Fine."
The next thing Tech knew, they were flying around in his brand new, state of the art stealth jet. With all the recent commotion, he had designed it specifically to avoid the paparazzi. This was by no means what he had imagined its first flight to be, but he supposed it was as good a debut as any.
Both Rev and Rip had already worked out an exact plan for how to sneak him out of the house. The Runner family home was perched on top of a cliff, all Tech had to do was let the jet hover next to their front lawn when the two senior members of the household were away, allowing Rip to climb inside easily.
"Thanks for picking me up bro, um…not that I care or anything" Rip folded his arms in false indignation, attempting to look cool.
"Thank Tech, he's the one who drove. I-mean-he's-also-the-one-who-build-the-stealth-jet-we're-flying-in-so-a-double-thank-you-I-guess?" Rev said, craning his head around so that he could look into the backseat.
"Thanks Tech" Rip replied awkwardly.
"Yeah" Tech noted in response.
Rip was unsure how he felt about Tech. Not in the same way his parents did, obviously, but more so just how he felt about his brother dating someone. Ever since they were kids, Rip had never really known his brother to be the dating type. In retrospect, it seemed pretty clear that he never dated anyone because he was gay, but now that he actually was in a relationship, it was taking Rip time to process. He had grown comfortable in a way with the homogenous nature of their lives. Rev never dated, and Pa always pestered him about the business, while simultaneously not paying much attention to Rip. Even when Rev decided to become a super hero, it didn't feel like things had changed all that drastically. Now that his older brother was dating a coyote, however, things had changed drastically. His parents only ever seemed to mention Rev in a negative light as of late, if at all. Furthermore, they had paid way more attention to Rip than any other time within his memory. They doted on him, they worried about him, and Ralph even started grooming him to take over the family business. None of these things were what Rip wanted, which was why he jumped at the opportunity to get out of the house.
Regardless, even with all these other changes around him, he still could not wrap his head around the fact that his brother was in an actual romantic relationship. Rev had always been this older platonic figure in his life, and now that his attention was more divided between the two of them, it just felt a bit jarring. He was certain that these feeling had nothing to do with Tech specifically though. In fact, if he was being honest, then Tech was probably the perfect fit for Rev. Rip had first met the coyote back when he and his parents had visited the Loonatics tower, right before the whole robo-amigo fiasco. He had known a few coyotes at school, but his parents had always warned him to stay away, and so he had never properly interacted with a coyote until he met Tech. On their initial visit to the tower, Rip had never spoken to him directly, but just the idea that his brother had been serving along side this guy was kind of surprising. He never would have admitted it to his parents, but just the idea that a roadrunner and coyote could not only work together, but be such good friends was kind of inspiring to him. It made the world feel just a bit less hostile.
Rip remembered how, soon after, Tech began making regular trips to the house in order to help on the robo-amigo. The younger brother often would hang around while they worked on it, sometimes offering assistance, while other times doing homework. This was the first time in his life he could recall actually having a proper conversation with a coyote, and he developed a surprising amount of respect for Tech over the course of his time there. He didn't quite know what to expect out of his brother bringing a co-worker/friend to the house, yet despite this Tech turned out to be a pretty cool guy. He even occasionally helped Rip out with his homework when they were taking a break from building the robo-amigo. Of course, Rip would never admit any of this out loud, but he was happy that his brother had found such a good friend, while also being sad that his parents couldn't look past something as simple as his species.
In spite of all this, his initial reaction to their dating was one of displeasure. In retrospect, the fact that his parents were in an uproar about it probably did not help. The way he had found out was also a major factor as well. Finding out that your brother was in a relationship via the news, is perhaps the bluntest way to have the information handed to you. Rip could hardly believe what he was hearing. His brother had only just come out of the closet, and now he was already jumping into a relationship? The whole thing just seemed so fast from the outside, at least that was how Rip felt about it. Besides, even though he knew Tech, he hardly knew him well enough to tell if he was good enough for his older brother. As far as Rip was concerned, if Rev was going to get into a relationship with anyone, then the bare minimum was absolute perfection. Eventually though, Rip began to realize he was being perhaps a little too harsh. He remembered back to how well they worked together, and began to realize that the two being an item was perhaps far more obvious than he had first thought.
"So, anyway we've decided to get Chinese takeout" Rev said, pulling Rip out of his thoughts and back into reality in doing so.
"Oh, yeah sounds good" the younger brother replied.
Soon enough they had discretely pulled through the drive through and picked up several paper bags of food, which Rip stored in the foot well next to him.
"By the way" Tech noted as they left, "We should probably warn you about my mother before we get there."
"You really don't need to go worrying about me Tech" Rip shrugged, "I mean, you've met my father, so I've come mentally prepared."
"Well, all the same" Tech explained, "I'd rather be safe than sorry. Just remember, if she asks you whether or not you want to hear one of her stories, then just say no."
"Which ones?"
"All of them" Tech said gravely.
They drove in silence for a few more minutes, until Rev asked, "You know, you never gave me any warning before I met your mother."
"That's because you're an adult" the coyote said, "He's just… how old are you? 14?"
"17" Rip answered.
Before they knew it, Tech was parking the stealth jet and they were sneaking into his mother's apartment building. Once they had entered, she seemed to jump right into one of her not safe for work stories before anyone had the chance to say no. Tech shook his head as he finished setting up the silverware.
The four of them proceeded to sit down, each one serving themselves. Moving around the table in a clockwise motion, the order in which they sat was Tech, Rev, Rip, then Dust E. Before they started, Tech's mother produced a bottle of red wine, along with a glass.
"Mother, I really don't think wine goes with this meal."
"Wine goes with every meal sweetie" She then proceeded to pour a glass. Tech should have known it was hopeless; his mother would continue to drink no matter what he said in opposition. Even with company around, she did nothing to try and present herself as better than she actually was. He decided not to say anything else, taking out some chop-sticks.
"Thanks for letting us into your home on such short notice Mrs. Coyote" Rip said.
"Oh, honey it's no trouble at all" she replied tipsily, "it's not as if there's much I can do to make the place presentable anyway."
"Sorry that it's not exactly… well, sorry it's not the most relaxed of settings" Tech added.
"Please don't go apologizing; this is fine, really." Rip professed, "In fact, if I'm being honest, I think I kinda prefer this to dinner with my parents."
"They're not mistreating you or anything, are they?" Rev asked concerned.
"Oh no, no!" Rip emphasized, "Although, things have been… uncomfortable. I mean, its just been really out of sync ever since Pa found out about… you know." There was a silent acknowledgement from the rest of the table, with the exception of Dust E, who seemed to not care.
"So, you really are ok?" Rev said.
"I'm fine, really. Only problem is that once I get out of high school, I just know Pa's going to strong arm me into helping with the family business and nothing else." Rip lamented, then stuffed a wad of fried rice in his mouth.
"Damn, he's always pushing for that stupid business" Rev sighed.
"And that's something you don't want a part of?" Tech asked.
"I mean… maybe one day, but not anytime soon" Rip clarified, "I at least want to go to college or do something before I get stuck inheriting what my father started. He acts as if there isn't anything else in the world that I could want."
"But you're turning 18 soon, aren't you? You could move out of the house if you felt like it" Rev suggested.
"Like I have the money to move out" Rip sighed, "The cheapest places to live within reason are the shitty apartments in Acmetropolis, and even they can cost a fortune!"
"Why doesn't he just move in with you guys?" Dust E asked, nonchalantly pouring herself a second glass of wine. The three looked at her, surprised, then back to each other.
"We can't just let him move into the Loonatic's tower. Can we?" Rev glanced to Tech, hoping for some guidance.
"I don't know" Tech scratched his chin, "It is technically Zadavia's place after all. We would need to ask her if she was ok with it."
"Oh, surely she wouldn't turn him down."
"Ahem" Rip interrupted, getting the attention of the rest of the table, "Don't I get a say in this?"
"What's your say then?" Tech asked. Rip paused for a moment, unsure about what to add. Up until that moment, he had resigned himself to the fact that he would most likely be stuck living with his parents for a few more years. He was totally unprepared to make such a major decision so soon. In a way, the offer was a no brainer, after all, it seemed too good to be true. Not only would he escape his parents, but he would be living in the Loonatic's tower. He had class mates who would literally kill, just to take a tour of the place, let alone actually live in it.
On the other hand, there was no way his parents would take it well. Rip had already seen firsthand how emotionally devastated they were from losing contact with Rev, so he could scarcely imagine how they would take it if he told them that he was leaving to go and live with his brother. Of course, it was not as if all this drama was not his parent's fault in the first place. They were the ones who caused all the drama, after all. If they wanted to know the consequences of their actions, then Rip moving out would certainly be one of them.
"I'm… I'm not sure" Rip eventually said.
"That's alright. I mean, it is a big decision after all" Rev noted, "Besides, we don't even know if Zadavia and the rest of the team will be cool with it."
"You know, we don't need to treat it like a permanent situation" Tech suggested, "we could simply have you live there in the summer months, and then for the rest of the year you could be away at college, or whatever it is you decide to do." Rip's head was beginning to spin with all of these future plans. When he had agreed to have dinner with his brother, he had not counted on quite so much business talk.
"You're overloading the kid" Dust E scolded, "Let him eat his dumplings in peace." Despite being nowhere near sober, she was right. For a few moments the four of them ate in amicable silence. Ironically, Tech's mother, having started it, would be the one to break this silence.
"Anyway, have you two had sex yet?" she asked. Everyone at the table immediately stopped eating, with Tech nearly spitting out his food. He quickly swallowed.
"Mother! How many times, how many times, do I have to tell you that questions like that are not ok? Especially with guests around!" He said sternly.
"Honey, you gotta understand one thing… no matter how many times you say that, I just don't care." Dust E took another sip as Tech buried his face in his hands, deeply embarrassed about the whole situation.
"I told you, stuff like this happens a lot with these two" Rev whispered to his brother. Rip silently nodded in agreement.
"Honestly mother, would it kill you to at least make an effort? This is just like the 'twink' comment all over again, except even worse."
"What's the 'twink' comment?" Rip asked, morbidly curious.
"Nothing to exciting. All I said was that I was surprised my son's boyfriend was a twink" Dust E explained.
"Mother, please! My boyfriend's brother really does not need to hear about all of this!" Tech complained.
"I don't know why you're being so immature about it. I just thought you would pick someone more like your father in order to work out all those weird insecurities you seem to have about him" Dust E continued, thoughtlessly. As this was happening, Rip leaned over to Rev.
"She described you as a twink?" the younger brother smiled wryly.
"We really don't need to keep talking about it" Rev sighed.
"Sorry, it's just… now that someone's said it I can't unsee it. You know what I mean?" Rip explained.
"Sadly, I do" Rev was beginning to regret bringing his brother here.
The rest of the meal continued on in a similar manner, though far smoother than it had been. Both Rev and Rip chatted about what was happening in their lives, catching up truly for what felt like the first time in far too long. Every now and then, Tech's mother would say or ask something brutally honest, embarrassing everyone at the table, but by that point in the evening they had gotten used to it. While she often came off as tactless, that was a part of Tech's mother that Rip could really appreciate. She was so unfiltered, saying whatever she thought without any attempt to disguise it's meaning. Of course, that might have been because she was quite drunk, but regardless, it was still true. With his own parents, especially his mother, there was always so much work to just have an honest conversation. It was weird to think about, but in a way that night was the first time in a long while that Rip felt like he was dining as part of a family.
Eventually, all the food had been eaten, and it was time to head out. Tech, Rev and Rip all said their goodbyes to Mrs. Coyote, and headed down the stairs out to the stealth jet, which they had carefully tucked away as to avoid jet-jackers. It was night by the time they got out, and Tech emitted a big yawn as they approached their vehicle.
"Want me to drive?" Rev asked.
"Sure thing" Tech said, throwing him the keys without a moment's hesitation. Rev climbed into the driver's seat with Tech riding shotgun. Rip situated himself in the back, as he had done earlier. They then took off, heading back to the Runner household to drop Rip off.
As they were on route, Tech could not help but think of what his mother had asked, have you two had sex yet? The truth of the matter was, no, they had not. Of course, there was no way they were going to say anything in front of Rip, that would just be making an awkward situation worse. Still, now that the idea had been brought up, Tech found it difficult to get Rev off his mind. This was not the first time he had thought about the possibility of having sex with Rev. Ever since they started dating, he always knew it was most likely going to come up sooner or later. That was what people in relationships did, after all. At least, that was what he heard people in relationships did. He and Mallory had only done it once, and, well… under those circumstances it was certainly not to his liking. Tech knew that things would be different with Rev though; after all, Rev was someone he actually liked. In a way, sex was the impetus for their whole relationship. It was Rev's desires which had spurred it on in the first place.
Without moving his head, Tech glanced down into Rev's lap. It was difficult to make out the details of Rev's crotch in the pants he was wearing, especially in the darkness of the night. He tried to make out where the edge of the roadrunner's penis and balls might be, but under their current conditions it was far too difficult. In spite of this, Tech could feel himself becoming horny. He could feel his own cock growing ever so slightly hard, the tip brushing against the interior of his underwear. Fortunately, he was not hard enough to have it be visible from the outside. He quickly drew his eyes back out the window, trying to put all this aside for the moment. This was neither the time, nor the place. Rev's younger brother was in the back seat, after all. As all these thoughts were cycling through Tech's mind, he could not help but wonder if Rev felt the same in that moment. Was he as cautious about sex as Tech was, or did he have it on the mind twenty-four-seven?
They soon arrived back at the Runner household. Rev pulled up to the front yard just as Tech had done earlier that day, letting Rip climb out. They were fortunate enough that Rev's parents had not yet returned, though none of them wanted to chance it. Rev quickly pulled away once he saw that Rip was safely inside.
"Alright-babe-just-you-and-me-from-here-on-out" Rev commented innocuously. Tech did not say anything in response, content with the amicable silence. Rev had just thrown out the words without much thought, but his boyfriend could not help but ponder any greater intent. Was it a subtle signal to get a little bit more sensual?
Tech decided it would be best to test the waters first. He gently moved his hand over to the driver's side, placing it onto Rev's right thigh and squeezing ever so slightly. It was placed close enough to the crotch to slide into something more intimate, yet far enough to where Tech could deny any such intention.
As it happened, Rev's heart instantly began to pound in his chest. Now, it was his turn to wonder what the coyote was thinking. Was this a sexual advance? Coming from anyone else, Rev would have said yes, but this was Tech. The guy wasn't exactly known for his libido. Rev could feel his plume stand on end; a tingle shivered throughout his body. He did not want to take his eyes off the sky ahead of them, yet at the same time he wanted to give some indicator as to whether or not he knew this was sexual. His blood began to flow. He felt his penis pressing against his pants as it expanded. Things quickly became quite tight down there, though he was unsure if Tech could see what was happening in the darkness. In a way he was happy he couldn't; it would have been embarrassing if it turned out he was not in the mood.
Fortunately for Rev, Tech most certainly was, and he could make out the clear boner fighting to break free from the bird's crotch. Tech squeezed the thigh slightly tighter, leading to Rev letting out a slight Meep.
"If you want to… then I want to, but I don't want to force you into anything uncomfortable" Tech's raspy voice was barely a whisper, the words dancing directly into Rev's eardrums. The bird could feel his heart pound even faster, his entire being boiled with desire. The Loonatic's headquarters were now in sight.
"Let's do it" Rev panted, quickly parking the jet in the garage. Once they landed, Tech immediately leaned in, kissing him on the cheek. Rev reciprocated, pulling the coyote close and landing a smooch on the lips. The two quickly unbuckled and climbed out of the jet. They practically ran over to the elevator. Once inside, they vigorously resumed in a far more intimate manner than they had before. The two wrapped their arms around each other, grinding together. Tech rubbed his hands all over Rev's back, leading down to his butt cheeks and taking a tight clasp on each as their lips and tongues swirled together.
Suddenly, the elevator bell rang, and the two pulled apart if only to make the trip to the bedroom all the quicker. Tech grabbed Rev's hand and pulled him out into the Loonatic's common room. It appeared that everyone else was asleep. They quickly, and quietly, scampered over to the living quarters. For a brief moment, they stopped, looking back and forth between which room to choose.
"Should… should we go with your room then?" Tech asked. Without even needing to answer, Rev pulled him over to the door labeled 'Runner'. It silently swished open and closed.
Now, once again enveloped in privacy, the two resumed. Rev's tongue battered Tech's lips, the coyote reciprocating by sucking at the bird's lanky neck. They shuffled up to the bed, collapsing onto in, with Rev pinned underneath Tech. They continued, not wanting to rush the moment. Tech placed a paw on the roadrunner's chest, dragging it down and undoing the first few buttons on his shirt. He slowly worked his way down his stomach until he rested his grasp above Rev's groin. From the outside of his pants, the coyote took a hold of the bird's hard cock, gently fondling them in his fingers.
Almost immediately, Rev shoved him away, panting for breath. He quickly did up the buttons which Tech had undone.
"Is everything ok? What's wrong?" his boyfriend asked, concerned.
"N-nothing it's just…" Rev paused for a moment, taking another breath, "I… I thought I was ready for this but… I don't think I am." They both sat there on opposite sides of the bed for a moment, not saying anything.
"Ok" Tech said, not particularly amicable, but accepting never the less.
"Tech I'm sorry-"
"No, no. Don't apologize. This isn't… this isn't a problem." Without another word he slowly stood up and trudged out the door.
