Early 36th Millennium, dawn of the Plague of Unbelief
Abalus
Gediminas District of Mancuso Hive
Rats screamed their shrill cries as they scrambled across the subterranean water channels of the Gediminas District. And among the hordes, people ran too. Ran instinctively from the death above that was growing exponentially every second as it raced into the lower levels of the hive. Death by the virus bombs that had been released.
But they could not run fast enough.
The rapidly spreading aerosolized virus caught them. Their bodies reacted as it touched their skin and entered through every orifice. Cries of pain and agony escaped from their mouths for but a moment before their bodies were lysed into its constituent hydrocarbon parts. Their bodies collapsed and melted away into a pool of flammable organic material topped by a volatile organic gas. No one was safe as the virus spread across the entire surface of Abalus in only minutes, killing all.
And as it spread, a spark set off the first fire, and then a second. One fire after another until the planet was ablaze.
But the burning fire was not all that was visible.
The deaths of so many shone like a beacon in the Warp. Coupled with the Ritual, the mass destruction of intelligent life stretched the barrier between Reality and the Warp, allowing that beacon to shine through, making Abalus a glowing ball in the sky as everyone simultaneously witnessed both its real image and its Warp image bleeding over into Reality.
And its image was joined in the sky by the other three burning planets- Voron, Ryazon, and Maxell. Visible to the planets of the Habalus and Dacian Clusters. And beyond it, the Chimaera's Breath was a terror in the sky as it swelled too and became visible to all, its wicked and purple clouds stretching across the horizons of the planets in the Reach.
