I don't own

Bella

"I have a necklace just like that," I said to Angela. She surveyed the beautiful necklace that Master Aro sent to her as a wedding present. I had the same necklace, given to me when Heidi went to England. She managed to snatch a few jewels when the crown of England was being made and brought them back as gifts to me and our Mistresses.

"It's beautiful," Angela said in awe. Her red eyes were wide and she held it delicately. Renesmee was brushing my hair. We were sitting in Angela's and Edward's little cottage that was built by the Cullens as a wedding gift from them. We were coming back from Angela's parents who spoiled and dotted on their little granddaughter, who was under the guise as a niece of Edward's brother who died in a car accident. Renesmee grew, from the time she left the womb. It was rapid and she had the appearance of a four year old girl after only being in the world for a few months. She learned how to walk and talk but she did not like talking. She had the gift of sharing her thoughts with a person, something that was a reverse of Edward's gift. She was loved and adored by everyone who came across her. She was possessive of Jacob and didn't like being apart from him, something Angela didn't approve of. Angela did not take it well when she found out that Jacob imprinted on Renesmee and only grew more furious when Jacob nicknamed her 'Nessie'. It was a cute nickname and it grew on her. Edward and Rosalie laughed when Angela grew rigid with anger when Jacob tried to calm Angela down. Esme swatted at them, a slight smile on her face.

After that, it seemed everyone came together because of Nessie. The shape shifters took to Nessie very well and she loved spending time down at the reservation. Jacob's father dotted over her as did the others.

Until…

Alice had a vision that the Volturi were coming. I tensed and I felt cold. I already had a bag packed, leaving everything else here. Mama would send for my dresses and jewelry that she sent during my stay. The bag held only the most precious to me, a photo album, the pictures were mainly taken by Alice and Angela, some by Rosalie, a necklace with the Cullen crest, and a blanket that Esme hand knitted for me as a welcome gift when I first came to live with them. I was going to catch the first flight home Friday morning and I was going to call Renata to come get me. A phone call came and Carlisle went to answer it, finding Tanya on the other line.

"Tanya, you know I would never commit such a heinous crime! I know what you girls been through, the whole of the vampire world knows…why would she think…?" Esme and Edward stood, walking slowly to Carlisle. The room was silent, everyone's faces were grave as dread set in.

"Tanya, come, see for yourself. If Irina already went to them…then we need to act fast…just please…come," Carlisle begged. I never heard my angel sound so desperate.

Alice and Jasper were gone after that.

"Maybe she's being smart and getting a head start in running away…" Rosalie said gruffly.

"She would never…" Esme said softly. Her eyes were wide and unsure. Angela held Nessie close.

"B-But she's not an immortal child, she lives and breathes, her heart beats!" Angela said softly. She placed soft kisses upon her daughter's head. I called my Masters to plead with them and that I was on my way home.

"No, I think it's best for us to come and see what the fuss is about. You knew and said nothing! Tu puttana!"

"Master, it's n-not like t-that! J-Just l-listen t-to m-me!" I pleaded, tears falling down my cheeks. The house was quiet. Carlisle and Esme were gone, to gather some friends as allies as were Rosalie and Emmett. Angela and Edward were at her parents' house with Nessie and Jacob, for Christmas. Eleazer and Carmen were downstairs but Tanya and Kate were also searching for allies as they had to set eyes and hands upon Nessie and believed Carlisle. Renesmee managed to enchant the Denali coven and they offered help in any way they could. Eleazer appeared in the door at the moment, his face sympathetic.

"I will come and bring judgment myself. If what this sweetling told me is true, then you can say goodbye to your precious Carlisle!" Master Caius snarled over the phone. My watery eyes found Eleazar. His eyes held a warning glance.

You know not to fight them

"P-Please…don't t-take Bella's C-Carlisle…I-I w-will s-see you when you g-get h-here…" I hiccupped.

"You know when they have it set in their mind to do something, nothing stops them," Eleazar said softly after I hung up. I nodded and cleared my face of tears, sitting on my bed. He came and joined me and held my hand, kissing the knuckles gently.

"I-I know…I-I thought I could sway them, j-just a little b-bit…" I said.

"Immortal children are an automatic death sentence, to everyone involved. I'm sure the trauma from her own personal experience has caused her to do what was right and Irina…"

Never forgave the Cullens for not taking vengeance for her when Laurent died. It was left unsaid but it hung in the air heavy.

I remember them leaving, heading to Russia, where Irina and her sisters experienced the death of their mother and the immortal child she created. Then there were two little ones that were locked away as experiments in the castle. They were kept down below and I was never allowed in the dark dungeons of the dungeons. Most of the executions happened down there and where humans going through the transformation were kept. They also spent their newborn year down in the dungeons unless they had self-control and weren't driven crazy by the bloodlust. The little cries and screams echoed off the walls unless they were satiated. It was around this time, Carlisle had stumbled upon us and he had seen the children as well. One day, I didn't hear the little childish tantrums anymore.

"Well…well…it's the Volturi curva…"The voices were sly and cold and I flushed as eyes were upon me. The vampires were of the Romanian coven, the Romanian coven, the coven that my Master destroyed. He toppled the Romanian grip on the vampire world and became its undisputed king. Carlisle frowned.

"Please refrain from using that kind of language in my house, Vladimir."

"Forgive me, angelic one, it's just, seeing such a prize of the Volturi so far from home…" Stefan said, his red eyes wicked on me.

"It wouldn't matter if they agree on Renesmee's origins, you touch her, we all die, no questions asked," Eleazar said, placing me behind him.

"It would truly bring down the Volturi if something happened to the Swan…" Stefan said mischievously.

"What you speak is sacrilegious…" Carlisle muttered softly, inching closer to Eleazar and me.

"What are they talking about, Bell?" Angela asked curiously.

"Oh? This one doesn't know?" Stefan asked mischievously.

"What are you saying?" Angela asked, her eyes flickering between the Romanians and Carlisle. I began quivering as unfamiliar red eyes peered at me. I gripped Eleazar's arm, as I became dizzy. Vampires knew of the Volturi but they didn't know of me. The ones that did know of my existence were friends of my Masters and had dropped for a visit. I was usually given to them for the night and then I never saw them after that. Renata was the only one where I physically had to go and meet her and her family. Renata was already a vampire when we met and I was more of a gift of appreciation to her uncle.

I tried not to interact with the vampires that came to the Cullen house. Most of them were human drinkers and nomads but I had taken well to Maggie, an Irish vampire that was part of Siobhan's coven. Her ability to know when someone was lying unnerved Angela but I didn't mind. She and I got along well enough and she couldn't stop talking about Ireland. I was in awe and I loved her accent.

They were careful of me but Eleazar was protective and made sure I was with him and Carmen when I wasn't with the other Cullens or Tanya and Kate.

"Come now, no one besides Carlisle, the Volturi guardian, and us, know of the Volturi swan?" Vladimir asked, stepping toward Carlisle. I heard some of the vampires begin to growl.

"If you're here to help, I will very much accept it. If you're here to antagonize my family and my guests, then I must ask you to leave…" Carlisle said coldly.

"Do not worry, Carlisle, We are here to help. We never miss an opportunity to make to the Volturi look like fools…" Vladimir explained.

"What were they talking about earlier?" Angela asked. I was throwing the last of my school papers away. She stood rigid in my room. I licked my lips and tucked a strand of hair behind my ears. We stared at each other for a long time, her brow furrowed deeper and deeper.

"Who is Aro to you really?" She closed the door as if that was going to help keep our conversation lingering to the other vampires in the house. I knew they all were still as statues, silent…cold…

I was the only source of life in the house. Renesmee was with Jacob down at the reservation.

"A-Aro…i-is…" I started. My hands started to shake, to stop the shaking, I twisted them into my sweatshirt and my head dipped down. I chewed hard on my bottom lip. For four years I had hidden my secret from Angela, with the help of the Cullens. I knew Angela becoming a vampire, her perspective changed and she was picking up on things better than when she was human. Little lies and distractions would not keep Angela from what was truly going on. Vampires were observant.

Too observant

I had written a letter to Angela that I instructed Edward to give to her when I had left. I didn't want to face her disgust.

My body was Sodom and Gomorrah in the vampire world.

I felt her hand on my shoulder and a soft smile appeared on her face.

"I love you and whatever it is… I know that you can't help it. I remember that day we went to Italy and I saw a little bit of what happened. Everything happened so fast but all I could remember was how scared I was. It got even worse when Edward…that crack on his face when Felix slammed him into the ground and how he wasn't moving. I didn't think we were going to leave that place alive," Angela explained. Her red eyes were cast down in sadness.

"Then you lunged forth on that lady you called mama and then Renata was dragging us to freedom. They told me you had a rare gift in which you could live forever but not turn into a vampire and I believed it but I always knew there was something more…" I swallowed the lump that had gathered at the base of my throat.

"Charlie was a Roman soldier and Renee was a loving wife and mother. There w-was a wall that m-my father patrolled and we l-lived in the settlement there. I g-grew up with a few other girls and their f-families. O-One day, a v-vampire attacked the settlement and I r-ran. My f-father said that he h-had a s-sister that lived in R-Rome and t-that if a-anything should happen, that I w-was to make my way there. O-Of course that never happened. T-The vampire chased a girl into the woods i-in which I was hiding and h-he killed her. Then h-he found m-me and…" Angela stroked my cheek and that's when I realized I was crying. She waited patiently for me to continue.

"I didn't f-feel any of the p-pain that h-humans felt. I f-felt g-good…"

Pleasurable

Sinful

"Like…doing drugs or getting drunk?" Angela asked.

"I guess you c-could c-compare it to t-that…b-but t-the h-high is s-stronger and l-lasts longer…" I had never tried drugs although, I have tasted alcohol many times over my long life. The drunkenness always added another level to the high.

"Do vampires end up having sex with you when they bite you?" Angela asked hesitantly. I nodded.

"How do you not die? Don't they lose control and break and bruise everything? It took everything in Edward's power not to hurt me…" Angela faded off. Her eyes then widened comically, "Felix is huge!" I chuckled at her horror.

"T-The venom makes m-my body l-like a vampire temporarily, j-just w-without speed, strength, or grace."

"You kind of do have two left feet…" Angela said, smirking slightly.

"I-I'm n-not t-the one who is n-nicknamed D-Danger M-Magnet in the f-family!" I pouted. She laughed and held my hand in both of hers. Her hands, like all the others, I found, felt warm. Vampires were known for their icy cold skin but I never had that problem. They felt warm and human to me.

"Is Aro…like your Master?" Angela struggled out. I let my silence be my confirmation. It lasted an eternity between us.

"Holy shit, Bella, you're old as hell!" I snorted and rolled my eyes.

"What's the worst thing they ever did to you?" I stiffened.

The day I ran…

It was Renata and Felix that dragged me back, crying, moaning…begging…

They left me with my three Masters and I was left with piercing red gazes and deathly silence. Sulpicia had rushed in, fretting but it was Aro that growled, almost animal like and she rushed back out the throne room.

"You want to run?" I sobbed and shook my head. Moaning, licking my lips, my thighs clenching and soaked. I scratched at the marble floors.

"M-Master…p-please…Bella…d-don't p-punish Bella. B-Bella d-doesn't like p-pain…" I choked. I was backhanded and blood filled my mouth. I swallowed it, choking and I began sobbing. Master Caius stood above me and I looked up at him with wide eyes.

I was beaten and fucked that day. It was brutal and I remembered, my face covered in gore and tears. I remembered the fear that froze in me when I thought that they had knocked one of my eyes out of its socket. I begged and pleaded for them to stop, and my face was torn between teeth. It was after Master Aro snapped one of my ankles in half and I screamed until blood filled my throat that everything stopped. I was dragged by my hair to my room, where I stayed, locked away with only Sulpicia, Athendora, Corin, and Renata as my company. I remembered the fear and horror on Renata's face but after a day or so, my eye healed as did all my other physical scars, except for the bite marks on my face. Those took longer; I was still being punished, locked away in my room, when Carlisle came and rescued me.

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have asked," Angela said, when she found it took me a long time to answer.

"There's a-a lot of stuff I-I don't l-like talking a-about…" I would only get pity. No one would fight for me, no one was stupid enough to and I would never want anyone to risk their life for me. I belonged to Aro…

"Is there a way to buy you?" Angela asked thoughtfully.

"W-What do y-you mean?"

"Well, technically, you're a slave. Slaves can be sold or brought. I will empty out all bank accounts to free you," she declared.

Many vampires asked to buy me from Master Aro and always, with a pleasant and cold smile would always say,

"She's not for sale…"

"Y-You're n-not t-the first or t-the l-last p-person t-to offer to b-buy me," I chuckled darkly.

I was thankful for Renesmee's and Jacob's arrival. She squealed when she jumped into Angela's arms and they snuggled.

Carlisle

"I had heard stories but I didn't think they would keep a human for so long…" Amun said to me.

"Isabella is a special case…I'm sure Aro would want to have the only human affected by venom in that manner," Vladimir replied.

"We should do something to save her…" Maggie whispered, staring out the window, her knees close to her chest.

I heard the Romanians snort.

"Aro would rather slaughter the entirety of the vampire race than to give Bella up. Carlisle has gained his trust enough to allow Bella to be away from Italy for as long as she has…"Eleazar explained.

"Have you ever had a taste? I'm sure Aro allows the guard to satiate their fetishes," Stefan said wickedly, his red eyes narrowing. Eleazar looked away in shame.

"I only fed from her once but I never took her. After I fed from her, I left the Volturi. I couldn't…"Eleazar finished softly.

"Isabella has never been on her own, has she?" Kate asked. I shook my head.

"I tried. I had her moved into her own apartment back in Seattle for college in the 80's. She was only there for a week before I sensed a vampire lurking around her apartment. I had to move her back home until the boys scared him off." She would constantly be in danger if she were left alone. It wasn't just that, there had been a few other vampires that were drawn to Bella and once they realized that she belonged to the Volturi, it was enough to scare them off but others would be persistent.

It was twisted that the only place that was safest was also the most abusing.

"Have you seen Bella at all today? I wanted to throw a nice little get together with her and the family before she…leaves," Esme asked. It was the day before we were set to meet the Volturi and everyone was on edge. Angela said that she was going to take Bella for ice cream and go see her parents. She left Renesmee with Jacob and Rosalie. I could see she was saddened by Bella's soon departure of us and she wanted to spend a little time with her. Nothing was heard from Alice or Jasper and I hoped that they were safe. I am not angry for them running.

"She should be back within the hour. She and Angela went to run some errands and visit Angela's parents."

"It's almost nine…I don't like Bella being out so late…"Esme said softly. I stroked her face softly and her gold eyes disappeared behind pale eyelids.

"You what?!" Edward yelled. Esme and I looked at each other and braced ourselves before we went into the living room. Angela was home but Bella was not standing next to her.

"I sent her somewhere and I'm not going to tell you where but she's safe," Angela said determinedly.

"Angela…what did you do? Where is Bella?" Esme asked.

"I knocked Bella out and left her somewhere. I knocked her out, put her on my back and ran to god knows where and left her there. I know Bella's mind can't be read by Edward, Aro's gift can't work on her and Demetri can't track her," Angela explained.

"N-No…you have to go and find her, little one. Bring her back, right now," Eleazar said. Distress present on his face.

"No! This should have been done a long time ago!" Angela cried, "I will not go on living knowing the horrors Bella is experiencing and not being able to help her. That will make me selfish and a coward. I can't call myself her friend if I'm enabling her addiction and unhealthy lifestyle!" Edward softened and smiled at his bride softly. Nothing was said when he pulled her close and kissed her on top of her head.

"You're singing La Marseillaise," he whispered. Angela sings that specific national Anthem when she wants to hide something from Edward. He explained that she had been singing it more often recently. Angela said that when she was in elementary school, she was given France as her project and she had to memorize the national anthem, a feat that many were impressed with.

"You all won't be blamed. It will be my punishment to bear but I will die happy knowing that you all are safe, Renesmee is safe and Bella is safe."
