Ruby and I were walking at each side of the well respected Psychic while the rest of the fighters were following our trail not far behind. After climbing up another few steps on the staircases we arrived at another temple. I secretly took a glance over my shoulder. I saw my brother also doing the same thing as I was. Scanning the group of fighters that are left in this tournament.

I couldn't detect anything suspicious from their appearance or their Spirit Energy, but non the less I sense something different. Something dark and cold, but don't know where does that feeling come from.

I sighed in defeat then turned back forward only to almost kiss the wooden surface of the next gate. Luckily, my reflexes saved me from that kind of embarrassment.

"From here on, you can forget about sympathy!" Genkai informed the small crowd of people with a stern and warning tone. "The final test will be a tournament between the eight of you until one is standing. You'll fight until your opponent is dead or incapacitated. I don't care which."

Now that's kind of unusual.

The gate before us opens, leading us inside the big building, which was completely bare. Beside that gigantic statue in the middle, there was pieces of furniture, nor windows what so ever. It was completely empty.

"Come on now, walk!" Genkai urged us. Ruby and I walked inside first before the rest could follow. As we deeper into the temple the gates closed shut, leaving nothing but darkness for us to face.

Oh great, I can't even see the tip of my nose.

"UUh, hey! What's wrong with the light?!" Kuwabara cried out panicked, his loud and gruff voice almost making my ears go deaf. "I don't like that lady."

"Yeah grandma, what do you expect us, to fight in the dark?" My idiot of my brother spoke up next. Since it was dark I allowed myself to facepalmed, hard. My brother is a dimwit.

Suddenly, a bright light faded into our vision, giving enough to reveal everyone's faces around me. I looked at Genkai curiously who was sucking onto a cigarette that she had lit up a second ago. After a deep inhale she blew a good amount of smoke right into Kazuma's and Yusuke's face, making them cough uncomfortably while I smartly covered my mouth and nose with my hand just in time.

"Yes you little crap, that's exactly what I expect." Genkai said annoyed toward my big brother before turning to the others. I couldn't help but let a tiny smirk of amusement dance it's way up onto my lips. "You must first use your spirit awareness to see." The master turned to everyone. "Use weapons if you got them. Hit them where you like, anything goes. The winner is the one who can walk back alive." I looked at my brother who had done the same to me and we exchanged looks between ourselves.

"Sounds like a typical Saturday morning street fight, huh guys?" Yusuke asked us with a small hint of a grin on his expression, clearly liking the sound of that. I turned to the carrot head's direction as well only to see a small drop of nervous sweat roll down from his forehead. What's wrong with him?

"I'm not sure Urameshi, I got a bad hunch." Kazuma began talking, his voice shaking a little. "Like some of that scary stuff from the forest followed us here somehow, uh, you know?" I feel my lips firmly press against one another, morphing a straight line as I did that. So he can feel that too? "Like some beast has been stalking me all this way, but he's too afraid to attack me." Kazuma finished his speech.

"Well, that proves it then." Yusuke concluded. "After all those tests, Rando must still be after Genkai's technique. " I sent my brother a small nod of agreement.

"Who's Rando?" Kuwabara asked curiously. "Is he a beast?"

"Something like that." My brother replied in a low voice, keeping the information as quietly as he can. "I don't have time to explain now, just tell me." Yusuke turned to the fighters. "Is that hunch coming from one of those guys?" He asked.

"It's kind of hard to detect." I informed the boys as my eyes were narrowed at the contestants. "He probably hid it."

"Yeah." Kuwabara nodded his head, agreeing with me. "It's just hanging in the air and I can't tell where it's coming from. Sorta like uh. . . uh. . ."

"Sorta like a fart in a cramped elevator." Yusuke finished it in the most idiotic but painful way possible.

"Uh yeah, I guess so." Carrot head nodded. I rolled my eyes and turned away from them. As I did so however I caught someone's eyes from the corner of my vision. I looked at the direction, but he turned his gaze down immediately. It was that young boy again. From all of the suspects, he looked the least suspicious. But at the same time, something was off about him that's for sure.

"Now before we start you all introduce yourselves and speak up!" Genkai said as she breathed the toxic substance inside her lungs.

Everyone, besides me and Ruby began to introduce themselves loudly, just like Genkai asked them too. It started with the eye patched man maned Musashi who was wearing a white uwagi over his dark-grey hakama. On his side, a wooden sword was attached. Many would find it weak due to the material that was made out of, but I didn't underestimate it, because I learned to never judge anything so simply by their appearance. Then there was that young boy, Shorin who was a psychic in training, traveling around the world so he can find the perfect master for his future studies. Something that made me take a mental note of it and have another reason to keep an eye on him for sure. Then there was the jerk with the grass hair, Kibano who knows many styles of martial arts. After him, Chinpo, a man with curly mustache introduced himself, then the ninja guy, who I soon learned is actually a bodyguard named Kazemaru, then a hitman with glasses and daggers named Kiroda introduced himself and last but not least the carrot head and my stupid brother.

As soon as they all finished eight arrows fell from the ceiling and landed between Genkai, Ruby and I, and the contestants.

"Now everyone, pick up the arrow that you think is pretty. " Genkai said as she pulled the cigarette from her lips. "That will decide the order." I let out a small 'hm' as I feel my lips curl up on the right side. My respect and liking toward this woman start to raise up higher. She is one of the kind, that's for sure and on top of all, she doesn't take any crap from my brother, just like me. "Before that, however, please let my new assistant and student introduce herself as well." Genkai then gestured toward me. I was a little taken aback, but showed nothing and just mutely nod in reply before placing my hands in the front.

"The names Miyuki Urameshi. Student of Sarayashiki Junior High." I said politely but also a little monotone. I gave a small nod of acknowledgment to them then I went back to Ruby's side and watch the chosen fighters pick up their chosen arrow.

Inside the dark temple Genkai turned to the contestants with a stern look. "No stalling you two, you step up to the plate." The first fighters looked at each other before walking out of the crowd. Kuroda fidgeted his dagger between his fingers. Miyuki rose an eyebrow as the two men stopped walking and turned to Genkai.

"Let's make this clear." The hitman with glasses started. "In my line of work, I had been taught not to quit until they're dead. And fighting a trained bodyguard I can't help but feel it's professional." While he said that he gave a stink eve to Kazemaru.

"If you are asking about killing I already gave you my answer." Genkai told him. "Feel free to use any force necessary to defeat your opponent and ensure your victory."

"Yes, you said that twice, but will you hold it against me if I turn out to be a cold-blooded killer?" Kiroda asked.

"Young man, I am a psychic, not a saint." The master reminded the man. "I'll train whoever is strong as regardless of any moral shortcomings."

Miyuki turned to Ruby with bewildered eyes, but the other young girl just pressed her lips firmly against one another while puffing up her cheeks with air not really knowing how to answer or even think of any reassuring.

'I don't believe this hag.' Yusuke said in complete shock and disbelief. 'Now I really have to win.'

'You better win this Yusuke.' His sister's thought as she gave the stern eyes to her siblings direction.

"I'm very relieved to hear that." The hitman guy said. "So I can win the fight without holding myself back." Kazemaru let out a short laugh as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"Talking is only a means of delay, are you ready to fight yet?" The bodyguard tauntingly.

"Of course!" Snapped Kiroda as he whirled onto Kazemaru. With that, the two walked into the depth of the darkroom. "Risking my life is a nature of my profession." Kiroda told the bodyguard.

"Mine as well." Kazemaru replied with no fear or regret.

"Good." Kiroda answered. "Then I won't feel so bad when I carve out your heart."

Their figure became fainter and soon their whole being disappeared out of sight.

"You may start!" Genkai shouted at them. As soon as those words left her mouth, the clashing of metal and the struggle of the two men was heard.

"This is pointless." Kibano complained angrily. "We can't see a thing."

"Yeah, well it's not exactly a spectators sport." Yusuke added as he was staring into the darkness.

"The hitman is pushing back the bodyguard." Kuwabara suddenly spoke, earning the male Spirit Detective's attention.

"Are you telling me you can see in there?" He asked the orange-haired teen.

"Yeah, kind of." Replied Kazuma as his eyes followed the two fighting contestants' movements.

"Miyuki, can you see them?" Genkai asked curiously as she looked over the girl with the hair bun. Yusuke also turned to his sister and sure enough, Miyuki nodded her head.

"Yes, master." She replied as her chocolate brown orbs zig-zagged all around the place since the two men were moving fast. Through her and Kuwabara's visions, the two can see the bodyguard dodging the attack of Kibano's who was like a mantis, fast and ready to claim it's pray on the spot. After several scratches, Kazemaru jumped backward to get enough distance between him and the professional killer. His back hit against one of the pillars, cornering him. The killer with daggers ginned victoriously and was ready to launch himself at Kazemaru. Unexpectedly, however, a big bright blue light stroked right into Kibano's face, sending him flying away.

Both Spirit Detectives' eyes widen in surprise when they saw this.

'He's got the spirit gun.' Yusuke thought to himself. 'Though it's too powerful to be like mine.'

'But it came out of his entire palm. . .' Miyuki thought to herself as well as she tried to make sense of that Spiritual Attack.

Kazemaru walked or more like limped his way back toward the group, exhausted and in pain.

"Winner, Kazemaru." Genkai announced as the man in ninja uniform took a seat at the bottom of a pillar next to the group.

"I was trying not to use that technique so soon." Kazemaru said rather disappointedly with himself.

"What a strange power." The man with green hair, Kibano commented with arms crossed.

"I've seen it once before." Musashi said. "It's a mass of spirit energy."

'Yeah, maybe it is the Spirit Gun.' Yusuke concluded.

'Same theory at least.' Botan replied telepathically to the Spirit Detective.

"Hey, is that you?" Yusuke asked out loud. Miyuki snapped her head over her brother in question, only to see him leave the dark temple through the door.

"Urameshi, where do you think you're going?" Kuwabara asked as he followed Yusuke to the outside world.

I look at the door's direction, but I didn't move an inch from my position. I see Genkai leaving as well, probably to fetch up the boys. My curiosity eventually got the best of me, and I followed her suit. As soon as I reached those gigantic wooden doors I peeked outside to see what's this fuss all about?

Looks like Botan decided to show up as a spectator, but was captured by the ugly carrot head's flirting attempt. Letting out an irritated sigh, I was about to get the fools myself, but Genkai's eyes and shaking head stopped me from that small job. I watched her threw her still burning cigarette right onto Kazuma's right shoulder. Sure enough, the heat made him stop his pathetic attempt to win over my assistant's heart and swipe the cigarette stick off of his jacket.

I couldn't help but let my lip's right edge curl up into a satisfied smirk once again. Genkai is one hell of a woman.

"Are you boys happy with disqualification?" The master asked with an unimpressed tone. "If so, stay where you are." I walked out of the way so the three of them can get inside. Botan and the boys sprinted in within the second. "So he is Koenma's other kid." Genkai thought out loud. "I didn't know I was attracting celebrities." I mentally chuckle to myself before following my master back inside to continue on with the tournament. The next one was Chinpo's and that kid's round, Shorin. Still having a bad feeling about him I kept a close eye on him. Once they disappeared inside the darkness Genkai yelled at them to begin their fight. I watched as the little kid and the man get into a hand in hand combat. They didn't use any spirit energy at all, they were just punching one another. At the end of this round, Shorin wins with a technique that made the man paralyzed. From what I had observed, all he did was hit some pressure points on Chinpo's body, making him unable to move.

"Winner: Shorin." Genkai's announcement brought me back to reality.

"Just barely escaped." The little boy said out of breath as he walked back toward our group. I rose an eyebrow at him. He is too modest. Sure his fighting skills looked sloppy yet he still had the upper hand and beat down that old man.

If that's not suspicious enough for me than I don't know what it is.

"Onto the Third Match: Kuwabara vs. Musashi." The said people walked out while looking at each other competitively. After that small staring contest the two began to walk inside the huge shadows.

"Try not to get killed Kuwabara!" My brother yelled after Carrot Top who turned back toward his direction.

"Don't worry, I have to beat you before I die. " Kazuma replied with a cocky grin before turning back and then disappear.

"Don't you think he is a bit mismatched?" Botan asked with pure concern written all over her face.

"Well, he's never been as tough as me, but he does have a lot of determination." Yusuke answered as he looked aimlessly into the darkness. "I just hope that's enough to win."

"Hn, more like stubbornness." I hummed In agreement because it was soo true. I narrowed my eyes again as I focused all my spirit awareness into my vision and soon I saw the two once more. However, I only saw Kuwabara but not the pirate guy.

Where is he?

Then out of nowhere, Kuwabara was attacked from behind and soon his face wiped the dirt off of the floor for sure. The thug sat up and turned to Mushasi who gave a smirk toward Kuwabara before disappearing like a ghost who faded away. Kuwabara scrambled up to his feet, now looking more alarmed than before.

"I know all about your spirit awareness kid." The eye patch guy began speaking. "But I too have a power, I can mask my own energy." I feel both of my eyebrows lift themselves up like those curtain blinds in office rooms. Then to my surprise, Hiei's face appeared in my mind since he is able to mask his own energy really well.

"So I can't see you." Kuwabara concluded as his body was still.

"And unlike you, I'm used to fighting in the dark." The pirate said before giving another punch to Kazuma, knocking him off of his feet like before. I mentally flinched as I watched the thug getting beaten up by this old man.

"Be careful Kuwabara!" Botan yelled worriedly.

"Stop yelling so much, it makes you easier to find!" Yusuke and I shouted in sync which looked and sounded quite weird to me . . .

"Will you guys shut up!" Kuwabara reply to us. "I'm trying to concentrate and you're not really helping." I scoffed at his statement.

"What a fool." I murmured under my breath.

"A stubborn brat with determination, huh? " Ruby pointed out and all I did just hum in agreement.

"There isn't any use." Mushasi said confidently. "In the dark, I can strike you a hundred times and you'll never be able to block."

"Beat me all you want old man, your sissy little punches don't hurt me at all." Kazuma replied fearlessly before spitting to the side. "It's just crummy chump change compared to all the days Urameshi run my head into the concrete or the times when Miyuki slaps me into oblivion."

"Hmpf." I crossed my arms over my chest as my mind jogged up a clear memory about that day when I first slapped some lessons into that idiot.

"It's true, I've punched him quite a few times." My brother dearest admitted it before turning to me with questioning eyes. "What are those slaps he is talking about?" He asked.

"Don't even ask." I told him bluntly as I feel my mood change from another memory. A stupid one in fact. That one Valintine day when he tried to 'catch my interest' with flowers that were in a water-filled vase. But being the clumsy dumbass he was, he tripped and ended up not only getting deadly sharp red roses in my hair but it also left with a big wet spot right in the middle of my chest, if you know what I mean and where do I mean. And back then, I had gym class, which was even more embarrassing.

I shook my head violently I turned back to the present. Eye-patch man pulled out his wooden sword.

"A big stick?" Kuwabara asked dumbfounded. I mentally rolled my eyes. He is like a brainless goldfish.

"Now is no time to play the fool, kid." Mushasi warned him. "This is a wooden sword, carved from an ancient tree and cleansed in a sacred stream." As I took my focus onto the said weapon I saw the many amounts of spirit energy that began to surround the sharp blade. "It's a conduit for spirit energy, the perfect for striking down evil!" He raised up the sword and then jumped up into the air, only to mask his spirit energy again.

"Hey, I'm not evil!" Kuwabara exclaimed panicked, making me facepalm mentally.

"UAAAAHHHH! Shibatto Shining Sword!" The man yelled as he reappeared above Kuwabara and struck him with the weapon before slashing the poor fool furiously for more than a hundred times with no mercy. His moves were fast and so were those hits. Once the attacks stopped Kuwabara fell onto the ground looking like a person who just lost a fight with a wild and angry cat.

However, a small piece dropped right next to Kazuma's face. A wood piece that came from nonother than Mushasi's sword.

"Huh? He actually broke the sword." The man said quite surprised as he took a look at his now broken weapon. He turned away from Kuwabara and began to walk toward us, but the stubborn carrot head got back onto one knee while grasping onto that broken wooden place. Mushasi stopped on his track and turned back to Kazuma.

"You haven't gotten rid of me yet." Said the orange-haired thug as he struggled to get back to his feet.

"What kind of evil creature are you?" Eye - patch man asked with nervousness as small drops of sweat began dripping down from his forehead. However, his compassion came back within the second. "No one has ever survived my shining sword attack. Oh well. . . " He said before hiding under the dark covers again. "I am confident you won't live through a second strike."

I watched as Kazuma look at the piece of wooden blade in his hands, clearly lost of what to do now. As expected, the man reappeared above the thug again, ready for a round two of beating the shit out of Kuwabara. But unexpectedly, a big amount of spirit energy shot out of Kuwabara's wooden piece, forming a blade out of pure energy and it blocked Musashi's wooden weapon. A small gasp escaped through my lips as I tried to figure out what just happened there.

"What is that?" The man asked, completely off guard just like me and probably every contestant.

"Agh, I don't know." Kuwabara stuttered just as shocked as Mushasi was.

"What are you?" Eye-patch asked.

"Materialization." Genkai suddenly said beside me.

"What the hell is that?" Yusuke asked rudely, making me want to smack him later.

"Normally spirit energy cycles through the body and is very hard to control." Ruby began explaining. " But in this case, when his life was endangered he instinctively used his high spiritual awareness to manipulate his energy into a solid object. In this case, into a sword." I turned back to the match, only to see the old man being thrown across the room with the help of Kuwabara's new spirit weapon. The pirate ended up ruining the floor by crashing into it.

"Pretty cool, but how am I supposed to turn it off?" Kuwabara asked as he looked at his newfound invention.

"Hn." I hummed to myself as I crossed my arms over my chest. Guess he is not such an unfortunate soul after all.

"Winner: Kuwabara!" Genkai announced as the said teen limped his way toward my brother and I.

"I guess Kuwabara won't be so easy to beat up from now on, huh?" Botan joked while Yusuke gave her a sheepish grin.

"Well, at least he's still ugly." He said, making me close my eyes and just facepalm again because of his stupidity, even though he is still right.

"You better not lose before our fight." Kuwabara told my brother, making me mentally roll and eye. And he is back to normal, always being an eager and stubborn ass when it comes to challenging my sibling.

"Please, like I'd miss a chance to beat you up." Yusuke replied cockily like he usually would while I saw Genkai with her cigarette in her mouth.

"Let's not waste my time, the fourth match is Kibano versus Dimwit." The master announced making me snicker a little on the inside while Ruby and Botan openly giggle.

"Huh, I think that's you." Kazuma said as he pointed over his shoulder.

"And I thought my name was Yusuke." My brother said before walking a little forward, standing right beside Genkai.

"May the strongest man win." Broccoli head said before his legs began to carry him into the darkness, but Yusuke however stayed behind with his eyes closed and a smirk dancing onto his lips.

"What are you waiting for Urameshi?" Kazuma asked, making Kibano turn to my brother.

"Have you decided not to fight?" Asked the green-haired jerk rather relieved as he looked overconfident, no doubt.

"Oh no, I was just praying for your mortal soul." Yusuke replied, being his cocky bastard self again.

"This is not the time to clown around, Brother!" I glared at him.

I hear Master Genkai growl beside me before throwing her cigarette right at Yusuke's direction while shouting "MORON!" rather annoyed and angrily. "Any more delay and I'll take it as a forfeit." The master snapped, but Yusuke being Yusuke he just brushed her words off like it was some dust on his shoulder.

"Geez, something tells me you're still mad about that grandma comment." Yusuke said before stripping his jacket off of himself and threw it right at me. "You really need to enjoy life more, old lady." And with that, he left with Kibano.

"Hn, Stupid Brat." I murmured under my breath angrily.

"Is he always like that?" Ruby asked as I see a sweat drop running down her forehead, feeling completely dumbfounded and confused that's for sure.

"Like a pain in the ass? Unfortunately, yeah." I replied as I nod my head with disapproval. His existence is the definition of the Pain in the Ass, but MY pain in the ass, which I need to take care of as long as it's needed.

I look back at the match with the help of my spirit awareness while my ears caught brother dearest's complaining. I shook my head at him before turning to Kibano, who was wearing a helmet of some sort that covers the entire upper part, showing his mouth and jaw only.

"Hey, watch out for him! He's got some sort of mask on his head! " Carrot head pointed out the obvious. I feel my teeth gritting inside my mouth as I narrowed my eyes sternly at the fight.
This is not good at all.

"My own invention." Kibano confessed. "It blinds my sensory organs. All the brainpower normally concentrated on my sight, sound, and smell is redirected on sensing a person's spirit." As he spoke, I see some sort of red energy surrounding his tall figure. "I've even installed a targeting device to direct my senses to a single point. " The fingers on his hand slightly moved. "Now let's see. Yes, you have a very unusual aura. " He stated as he looked directly at my brother's direction. "As if your body has been through a great deal of danger, perfect, that will make you easier to find." Kibano then charged himself at Yusuke as he lifted up his fist that soon made contact with my brother's left. It sent Yusuke sliding across the floor like a mop before getting up to his knee. "See, it's very useful." The green-haired jerk ass said smoothly before kicking my brother, making him fly at least three feet away. Kibano then jumped up in the air, readying himself for another punch, but Yusuke luckily got away from it before that fist crushed his face, just the way it did with the floor.

"Okay, I heard that!" Yusuke exclaimed before picking up a piece of the now broken floor and threw it at the man who dodged the throw with a few jumps and flips. Yusuke was about to follow but by the time he managed to stand up, Kibano disappeared into the shadows. "Hey, did I hit you?!" Yusuke shouted angrily.

"Sorry." Kibano said before leaving a loud creak behind him. The sound allowed my brother to finally have a chance to attack.

"I've got you!" Yusuke said as he was running. Just then he jumped up and finally give the green-haired man a punch.

"Yeah!" Kuwabara shouted beside me.

"Save the celebration later." I told him sternly. "The fight is not over yet." I watched Yusuke sending a few punches to Kibano who then suddenly let out a smug laugh.

"What?" Yusuke cried out. Just then Kibano swung his leg toward my brother's chest, making him fly into the nearest pillars before falling face-first onto the floor.

"You found me by my voice, no doubt, but your hearing will never accurate enough to give you a device blow." Kibano said so confidently that it made me feel even angrier.

"This punk is not playing fair." Kuwabara growled. "That helmet is protecting his head from attacks."

"Even the best kind of armour should have a weak point, but I'm scared Yusuke is going to have a tough time finding it. He can't even see his own hand in front of his face. " Botan added, making me growl even more at the stupid situation.

"Yusuke, how are you going to get out of this one?" I mumbled under my breath as I intensely focused on the match.

"Here is another technique." Kibano said as he raised his arm high up in the air. He bent elbow into a ninety-degree angle as his fist was held tightly. Then suddenly a green like energy began to surround that arm, making the muscles grow bigger.

"Uh-oh, something weird is happening to Kibano's muscles." Kuwabara said worriedly.

"What?" Botan exclaimed with a panicked tone.

"It's a basic enchantment technique." Genkai began to explain. "He is pulling in energy from the matter around him and it gives a quick boost of strength." Well great, now my brother is going to get it.

"Dammit, where is he?" Yusuke asked impatiently as he looked around himself and standing still, the perfect way to get yourself ass kicked.

"I'm right here!" Kubano shouted as he was sprinting toward my brother with full speed and a huge and strong right hand raised up in the air.

"Big Arm Bomber!" The man shouted before slamming that huge elbow right into Yusuke, sending him for another flight into the air and then slide onto the floor's surface.

Damn it. I hate to stand here helplessly while doing nothing to help him fight. . .

Why couldn't I just went with him in this tournament and be a better help. . .

At least to do something useful. . .
