"Since he doesn't seem to be moving you'll just have to fight around him." Master Yara suggested to everyone. Her sister, Genkai gave a small nod of agreement.
"Come on you two, let's close up the semi-finals." The greyish-pink-haired old lady said strictly to the two remaining contestants who were about to fight. Kuwabara grinned widely as Shorin confidently walked into the field.
"It's ironic that out of all the fighters, Shorin was last on my list as a suspect." Botan said on my left side.
"Yeah, if you're gonna disguise yourself, why not look cooler." My brother said right after our assistant.
"Not really." I said out loud as I just squished my eyes at the young boy we're talking about. "I mean, why draw the attention on yourself in the first place?" I pointed out.
"If Shorin is in fact Rando. . ." Botan trailed off with a small hint of fear in her tone.
"Then Kuwabara is in big trouble." I finished her sentence. "That human hunter is out of his league, there is a huge chance that he won't survive this." My words must have affected Yusuke because he began to run toward Kazuma and stopped him from going into the fight.
"Hey, Kuwabara! Wait up!" My brother shouted catching Kazuma's attention.
"Don't try to give me your coaching advice Urameshi." Carrot top replied to Yusuke who grabbed the thug by his blue-collar. I see him whisper something to Kazuma, probably about being careful with our suspect.
"I don't care who he is!" Of course, the stupid carrot head would yell and be stubborn about this fair warning, not wanting to look like a wimp, especially in front of girls. "First of all, I'm gonna beat this guy, and then I'm gonna grind you into the dirt. So don't try to get out of it by making me scared! And second, you beat that last guy by luck!" While bragging and talking nonsenses, carrot head was pushing my brother's nose like some kind of a button.
"So? What's that got to do with this fight?" Yusuke asked the million-dollar question, and I can't seem to find the answer. Neither can Botan by the looks of it.
"I'm not exactly sure, but I'm going to fight this guy! Monster or not!" Kazuma screeched like a parrot, which irritated me just as much as his stupid pride and recklessness.
"What's the point? You know I'd beat you next anyway!" Yusuke stated.
"Oh Yeah?!" Carrot top taunted. " Well, that'd be true if it was Opposite day!"
"Hey, would you boys please behave?" Botan said as she tried to break the boys apart. "This isn't junior high."
"SHUT UP!" The two shouted at her in sync.
"ENOUGH!" I cried out in a commanding voice finally shutting the two up. "Both of you, enough!" My stern demeanour didn't stop there but before I can even go on, the boy behind me spoke up.
"Please sir, may we start?" Shorin asked politely, but from where I stood, I saw something in his eyes. . .
"Yea." Kuwabara replied as Yusuke and Botan walked back toward me and Ruby.
"Begin!" Genkai cried out and on cue, Kuwabara charged at Shorin.
"I'll take you down in one hit!" Kazuma shouted. As him and the boy got close enough Kazuma actually punched Shorin like it was nothing, making me feel utterly confused on the inside. My eyes blinked blankly as I stared at the battle in front of me.
"What the. . . ?" Yusuke asked just as lost as I am. Meanwhile, Shorin sat up and wiped rubbed the cheek that got hit.
"I see, this fighter will take more strength than I thought." The boy thought out loud, making me span out of my confused state and harden my expression with a glare. He is either that weak or he must be playing with Kazuma.
"Gee buddy, are you alright?" Kuwabara asked as he rubbed his head awkwardly. "That was just a warm-up shot."
"You needn't worry about my health sir." Shorin reassured with an empty look before running at full speed and started to attack Kazuma with kicks and punches. However, Kuwabara easily dodged the boy's punches and then sent a punch right into Shorin's head, making him laugh out loud in amusement.
"Our difference in strength is pretty big, huh?" The ugly carrot head asked jokingly as if this is all just a child's play. This all looks ridiculous, but I didn't drop my guard down. I did not feel like laughing at all. In fact I felt tense by this.
This situation seems too much like the fight I had with Hiei or that one time when Yusuke and I had to deal with Gouki. They showed their cards when anyone least expected.
"So, what are the chances of a demon being a total wuss?" I hear Yusuke ask Botan. "Maybe Rando is hiding somewhere, but not as a fighter, or maybe Rando was one of the fighters and got beaten." My brother concluded.
"I don't really think so." I told him skeptically. "If you remember from our first case, Gouki and Hiei revealed their true forms when we least expected. Also, Botan said Rando would have revealed his true self after being beaten, but all of those fighters you had to deal with did none of that." This has to be the case, my gut is literally screaming that, but at the same time I'm worried that it's true, because if it is, then we are in some serious trouble.
"Oh, give me a break sis, how can you be so sure about this little pipsqueak is Rando?" Yusuke asked a little irritatedly making me sigh in defeat.
"I am not sure at the moment." I replied as calmly as I can. I knew Yusuke would always chose the easy route here while I do all the observing which annoys him. "We can only wait and learn." I hear my brother growl and complain about how I just overreacting, but I cared less about his stupid opinion and focused back on the real game.
This is not a coincidence, this last person must be Rando.
"What?" Kuwabara asked the boy, still laughing. "Is that all we're going to fight?" He asked as Shorin stood up to his feet.
"No, let me try a few techniques first." Replied the young boy with some sort of madness flickering in his eyes. He positioned his legs before moving his hands. I noticed a small electric spark flickering between those palms. Suddenly some sort of red spirit energy began to wash over his entire body. I felt myself shiver a little, but I also felt the warm energy of destruction fuelled by anger and hatred. That's when I saw that the suspected demon in disguise began to create a ball of fire in his hands.
"It couldn't be." I hear Genkai say. I turned to the master and I saw the recognition in her eyes.
"Circles of inferno!" Shorin cried out as he jumped up in the air and threw those fireballs straight at Kuwabara, who barely managed to dodge.
"You're okay Kuwabara! Stop giving yourself a pat-down and get ready for his next attack!" Yusuke yelled at him.
"Would you shut up!?" Kazuma snapped at my brother while his opponent began to prepare another round of fireballs. "Fine, if you want to use your fireworks, I'll use mine." Kazuma threatened as he pulled out that wooden piece from earlier and summon his spirit weapon. "Alright you little shrimp baby, batters up!" He said as he got into a batting position like he was on a baseball match. Shorin, as expected, threw another flaming orb right at Kuwabara, but this time the thug managed to hit the ball and sent it back to its owner's stomach. Shorin groaned in agony as he fell back to the ground, landing rather harshly.
"Woah, I guess that's a home run." I hear my brother compliment. The boy held his stomach as the sound of sizzling and burning was heard from the spot that his own attack hit him.
"Hahaha, those pitches were pretty nasty, but they ain't nothing compared to the old batting cages back home." Kazuma laughed confidently. I mentally rolled my eyes at his overconfidence but as soon as I turned to the injured opponent I saw something in his eyes I felt my eyes open wider like a chicken egg.
"Kuwabara is like a whole new fighter when he starts using that spirit sword of his." Yusuke commented and from what I can tell, he sounds confident about his punk friend's victory. "I think he can beat this little punk, Rando or no Rando."
"Anything is possible, I suppose." Botan trailed off but she sounded unsure of herself.
"Don't be so sure about it brother dearest." I told him calmly even though I for once felt concerned for Kazuma's well being on the inside.
"Oh god, for once you can say something positive?" Yusuke complained angrily. I turned to him with harsh eyes as I was gritting my teeth.
"If you don't believe me then look at Shorin!" I instructed him with a low and stern tone. "It's clear as day that the fight is not over yet. And I have a bad feeling about the end result of this." I then let out a small breath before turning back to the match.
"Very surprising." Shorin said. "Twice now you have managed to evade my attack and make it your own offensive."
"Ugh, don't make it sound so high tech! I'm just trying to cream you." The ugly carrot head replied.
"This requires a new approach." The boy said before interviewing his fingers, leaving his index fingers up and touching each tip. His legs were positioned as well and soon he began to chant out loud.
"What in the heck are you muttering about over there?" Kazuma asked with a frown. "You might as well speak up." Shorin just kept chanting and while he was doing that I notice his orbs changing from black to scarlet red.
"Yes, I thought I recognize where that fireball attack was from." Genkai spoke up out of the blue making me turn to her with concern and interest.
"Ages ago, to renowned masters spent the last half of their life perfecting the Circle of Inferno and this chant."
"What's this do?" Yusuke and I asked at the same time.
"That isn't the point." Master Yara chimed in, now whipping my head toward the blind elder's direction. "What matters is that the only one who could have taught this boy has been dead for centuries."
"Ladies, you just proved something for us once and for all. That chanter is definitely no boy." Yusuke told them while I just nodded in agreement, silently, even though I felt my own annoyance and anger being all bottled up because my brother like always didn't believe me.
I shook my head, reminding myself what I was doing and why am I here. Focus Miyuki, you're here to do your job.
I turned to Rando who just kept chanting. His eyes are getting redder as some kind of yellow energy began to stream out of his eyes.
"I'm shutting you up boy, you're freaking me out! " Kazuma shouted before running at him with his spirit sword, but by the time he was close enough for one strike, the hell spawn finished the chant and before we all knew, the teen thug shrunk. I hear Kazuma's tiny voice but the grass hid his figure completely to the point the demon criminal picked him up into our view. And by the looks of it, that grasp is really tight. Tight enough to crush Kazuma's bones into splinters.
"Don't be worried, you're still a human, just a very small and fragile one." Rando said with a wicked smirk as the madness reflected his eyes. "So does this hurt?" He asked the tiny human as his grasp began to tighten it's held, cracking the bones loudly while making Kazuma cry in agony.
"There is no way he can pull out of this." Ruby said out loud as her voice trembled with fear. I feel my jaw ajar a little while one hand balled into a fist that is trembling with anger. My insides got twisted painfully, but I kept the composed look, not wanting to show my fear or any other feelings. . .
"Kuwabara!" Yusuke screamed desperate to get Kuwabara out of this, alive. "Tell him you're backing out of the fight!" Shorin just chuckled with amusement.
"Oh, but that can just not be allowed." The spawn of the devil said mischievously. "I have to make use of this power a little first." With that, he began to crush Kazuma even more in his deadly grasp. "I'm curious about the strength of bones after they shrunk. I'll start with the right arm." After he said that he ripped Kuwabara's blue sleeve off and wrapped his finger around his tiny arm.
Oh god, no. . .
"KUWABARA!" Yusuke yelled while a hand covered my mouth in reflex. I feel my whole body slightly trembling as my eyes just open themselves wider. I was shaking like a leaf as the demon slowly began to twist Kazuma's right arm while the boy could do nothing bus scream in pain by this unholy torture.
Then the horrifying sound of the snapped bone were caught by everyone's ears, meaning his arm reached its breaking point and is now echoing in the air along with the screams and yells of Kuwabara's.
My hand suddenly slipped from my lips and fell limply to my side. My mouth opened a little and began to tremble a little. However the emotions that I felt at this terrifying moment had began to leak out just a little.
My mind went blank as I feel my heart had just stopped functioning for a second. . . this was one of the most horrifying things I had ever witnessed in my life. . .
"I can't stand this lady! I'm going in there!" Yusuke exclaimed and he almost marched up to Rando, but Master Yara held him back by the shoulder.
"No son." She shook her head.
"I'll call off the fight!" Genkai said before turning to the monstrosity. "That's enough Shorin!" In reply he just laughed like what he did is nothing.
"Alright." Rando said, but he kept on crushing Kuwabara's bones. A small gasp escaped through my mouth as my previous feelings of horror replaced themselves with pure rage.
"You Bastard! This punk is not going to listen to you old lady!" My brother cried out as he and I began to stomp over the demon in a hurry. As soon as Rando saw us he carelessly tossed the poor and broken thug over our heads. Yusuke called out to him, but Kazuma was unresponsive as he landed into the grass. I rushed toward the direction along with my brother but we couldn't detect him. His spirit energy was so weak that it was barely sensible.
"You wanted me to let him go, right?" The Hell-spawn laughed as we kept on searching. "And now." He began to chant again. As soon as he finished with it Kuwabara came back to his normal size. His face was all scratched and bruised up. Body all twisted up. . . .
He looked so vulnerable. . . so helpless. . .
"This body. . . it's twisted." Yusuke stated with a shaky voice. Ruby gently pushed me aside and brought some water out of her leather pouch and cover her hands with them like a thick glove. As soon as the water bender touched Kazuma's chest, they began to glow brightly with a blue colour.
"This is not good. . ." Ruby trailed off. By the cracking of her voice, I can tell that she is trying her best not to cry.
"Is he going to be okay?" Botan asked hopefully, even though I can see it in her eyes that she knew it's impossible.
"Both arms are in pieces along with his ribs. . ." Ruby informed us with sadness in her eyes. "Even with my healing abilities, I am not sure if his wounds will ever recover."
I didn't know what to say. . . I was shocked and. . . disgusted by how someone like Rando would so such a barbaric thing to someone. . .
I let out a small gasp as I saw Kazuma turning his head toward us. "I won't die." He said with a small and weak voice, yet he was still grinning. "Even if all the bones in my body are broke. . ." I feel my expression soften up like butter, but I didn't care at that moment. Kuwabara turned to my brother with that weak smile. . . after all that, he still had the strength to do that. . ."Remember Urameshi, we still fighting each other. . . " With those words breathed out Kuwabara's head dropped to the side and passed out.
"Yeah buddy, that's right. . ." Yusuke told him sadly as his hand patted his friend's cheek before clenching his fist and glare up at Rando who eyed his brutal masterpiece. I blocked out the conversation and turned to Kazuma. . . .
I never liked this stupid punk for one bit since he was so annoying and everything, but now. . . All I see is a broken body with a fighting spirit. . .
Just like the one once Sanyu was before he died in his own battle. . .
My hands balled into fists as a shaky yet angry growl escaped through my throat. I never thought I will ever going to do this again, but. . . I have to try it now. . . I am not going to stand there and do nothing.
"Ruby." I called for her softly. "Can I have some of that water?" I asked her as my eyes were still glued to the broken teen.
"Y-yeah, sure." I hear the weak reply of the water bender girl. I walked around Kuwabara's body and quickly yet elegantly began to wave my hand up and to the side to get myself some of that water to heal like Ruby.
" Yusuke. . ." I called for my brother who turned to me with his eyes softened. I looked up into his chocolate brown orbs deeply, my expression harden into a serious one. "Make him pay." With that, I began to heal Kazuma with everything I have and with the help of Ruby. Just like with Sanyu, give everything I got and try my very best.
I looked at my little sister with the pang of sadness inside my chest. As I watched her heal Kuwabara I found something else that just added onto my list of things that pisses me off. The fact that my sister is just as hurt and pissed off as I was. Another good reason to make that little bastard suffer for good.
"Don't worry Miyu, I'll make sure of it." I silently promised as I walked into the field.
"Let the final match begin: Shorin versus Yusuke!" Genkai announced loudly. As the little freak shifted into a fighting stance all I did was stand and send daggers through my eyes. The rage inside of me began to fill me with power as the spiritual energy from the field began to surround me, finally giving me enough strength to have at least one Spirit bullet if needed.
"Ready?" Asked the punk with that stupid grin on his face, making me growl out in anger. I see some sort of purple energy surrounding his body, but I did not care at all. He will pay for what he did to my stupid friend.
"The first one is for Kuwabara!" I shouted at the demon spawn angrily as I ran up to him and sent him a good and powerful punch, sending the freak flying far-far away, sliding into the ground. "And I still got ninety-nine more, one for each psychic's life you stole." I watched as he slowly got up, but I give him a second to attack me. I attacked him again, sprinting forward with full speed and punch him in the stomach than at his face sending him for another flight back to hell. I saw his lips moving while he tried to get back on his feet. "You better stand, I'll feel bad if you're glued to the ground." I snapped at the pipsqueak, getting more and more pissed off by the second I look at his pathetic form. Rando began to get up to his feet and now he was shifting into some sort of pose. Not caring about it I just run toward him, ready for another round of punches.
"Sickle and Tornado!" Rando cried out before jumping up in the air and . . . float there with green circles around him.
"What the hell is this?" I asked out loud, not believing what I was seeing. This little bastard can fly, but what are those circles.
"Of all my techniques I enjoy this the most." Short stuff informed me.
"Congratulations. " I told him sarcastically, not wanting to waste time with this bull-crap.
"And with as many battle wounds, you have Yusuke, it should be very painful." With that, he sent three spiked wheel-shaped spiritual weapons right in my direction. Without thinking this through I just ran at them. When those stupid things got closer to me two out of three, hit me in the shoulder area. I feel those sharp weapons digging right into my skin, but thankfully they didn't cut the surface at all, however it was still awfully painfully. I fell onto my back, feeling sore and burned.
"Ouch!" I cried out as I sat up straight, but more out of anger than pain.
"Now that's surprising." Rando said, standing in that fighting position again. "Most would pass out from the pain. Shall we try again?" He laughed before jumping up and send another line of wind wheels toward me. I immediately got up and with a battle cry, ran up to him again. "I dare you!" Rando taunted, but I didn't care, I will win this for Kuwabara and for my sister. I am going to wipe this bastard out of existence.
I jumped high up in the air and just floated right up to Rando. My arms protecting my face as I was going through those sharp wind wheels again. I feel their spikes cutting me, hurting me, but all I thought about was Kuwabara at this point on. Soon I reached the heart of the tornado and tackle the hell-spawn down. My hands crossed in the shape of an 'X' around his neck.
Then we slammed harshly back onto the ground. I pulled myself away from the knocked out bastard and began to breathe heavily. Man, this took a lot out of me. I turned back to the idiot with tired eyes. He is still down. Good. Because I don't take I can take much longer.
"Got him." I panted. "And he wasn't joking about the pain." I added as I tried to straighten my now aching body up.
"You got him good Yusuke!" The familiar cheery voice of Botan said to me. "He'll probably be out for a week!"
"Well, that's what happens when you piss me off." I informed the blue-haired grim reaper who was grinning ear to ear.
"It's a shame that Kuwabara couldn't be here to see it." Botan added. On cue, Kuwabara spoke up about some nonsense but Ruby and Miyu shut him up. I took a step, but I ended up wobbling. "Yusuke, maybe you shouldn't try walking for awhile." Botan suggested but I just brushed it off.
"I'm fine." I told her as I walked over to the two old hags. "Well, how did you like that grandma?" I asked Genkai, but she stayed with her cold and unimpressed.
"You shouldn't have wasted your energy by walking over here sonny." The other old lady said.
"Huh?" I hummed questioningly.
"Your fight isn't over yet." Genkai said, making me look at her a little taken aback. "Did you actually think Rando could be defeated so easily?"
"What?" I asked dumbfounded. Just then a peal of deep and sinister laughter echoed around the field. I turned to the boy's body.
Could it be. . . ?
"Yes Mr. Urameshi you should listen to those old hags, they tend to know things." Rando's real voice spoke up. "For example that I am a demon who will not be destroyed." As he was speaking the body disappeared into the ground. "Most likely they also know that I must kill you all as you're about to see my true form." I feel my legs trembling even more as the ground beneath my feet started to shake as well like an earthquake. "The only real mystery is this." Rando continued on. "How will I choose to torture you?"
Cracks began to appear on the ground. Even underneath me. It slowly parted away. I stepped to the other side while watching that beam of blue light that came out of that giant whole. While a male figure floated out like a Rockstar on concerts.
He had long scarlet red hair with some sort of tattoo-like mask covering most of his face. His upper body ripped like some sort of pro wrestler but it had a huge scar in the middle of the chest area spreading around like the cracks on the ground.
"What is that thing?" I asked dumbfounded but I was also shaking. I can feel his power from here while mine is all used up. This is not good.
"I'm the one you've been looking for. Rando." Replied the monstrous creature as he was chuckling maniacally, his gloving red eyes digging holes right into my soul. How am I going to get out of this one?
