The lava was bubbling up in the surface like boiling water as the two fighters stared at each other intensely. Miyuki stood her ground and looked at her opponent with a calm expression on her face but eyes narrowed in alarm. As for Byakko, he held a grin on his face that reflected nothing more but overconfidence, clearly thinking he is having the upper hand against the seemingly fragile human girl. While those two were measuring each other and their advantages here and there, the spectators on that cliff were doing their best to not worry much about the upcoming fight.
"I don't know about you guys, but I think we should help her." Kuwabara suggested, worry written all over his features of course. He was the one who is worried the most out of all four boys.
"She will be okay." Yusuke replied to him with confidence even though he was also has his own concerns about how his little sister will handle it, but unlike the others, he has faith in his sister's abilities.
"How can you be so sure about that Urameshi?" Asked the orange-haired teen thug in a small cry of disbelief. "She is a girl for god sake! She can easily hurt herself!"
"She is a girl, but she is still my sibling after all, not to mention Genkai's and Yara's other student as well." The Urameshi boy replied with a steady voice. "And when I say those, that means she can do some serious ass kicking, just wait and see." The brother figure then turned back to the battle area.
'Be careful Phoenix.' Kurama silently prayed as his forest green eyes were trembled with worrisome. Even though it was not intentional, Hiei heard that small thought, making him turn to the fox demon with questioning eyes, but he soon turned away with a small scoff and stare at the female detective blankly, even though he felt somewhat. . . different about her situation that she jumped in. . .
"Shall we begin?" Asked Miyuki blankly as her hands balled into fists. Not because of anger, but more like out of reflex. The coldness she had released onto her physical body and that reached both her arms with a strong effect. The skin on her hands got a little paler but that soon spread up to her forearm.
"If that's your final wish then I will be glad to grant it for you." The Saint Beast laughed mockingly before stretching out his arms on both sides. His hands clenched into fists then suddenly black lightning began to surround his form, taking the energy from the air that surrounded him. They made their way up to his throat after a small moment later, making the female Spirit Detective get into a defensive position. She felt her enemies spirit energy increasing but she kept her composure in check in order to think of some strategy later on and fast.
"What's that?" The Urameshi boy asked in shock as the white Tiger's mouth began to fill up with some sort of energy that had a mixture of yellow and green colors.
"Something powerful." The redhead behind him replied with a small hint of disbelief in his voice.
"Very." The Fire Demon chimed in. Just then a huge green energy blast came out of the Saint Beast's throat like a cannonball that had been shot right at Miyuki's direction. "So, it does exist."
With quick reflexes, the Urameshi girl managed to jump out of its way and land on another pillar safe and sound. As soon as that blast hit that other pillar, it had blown into small ashes to the point its existence was erased from the world. Miyuki's eyes widened a little as one of her hands was still in a tight fist while the boys, besides Hiei gasped at the sight of that horrific sight.
"What the-! He just blew the whole thing up into nothing within a second!" Kuwabara freaked out, now beginning to worry even more for his female friend's life.
"You like it?" Byakko asked with a proud laugh. "I call it my Tiger Scream, everything it touches transforms into a pile of ashes." He bragged with his chest puffed up with pride.
"Uh-oh! This is not good." Kuwabara stated, sweating nervously while the male Spirit Detective's hands tensed into fists as his eyes trembled and now, he felt a little terrified.
'Damn it.' Yusuke and Miyuki thought at the same time. The girl reached for inside her small bag and grabbed three of her kunai knives.
"Okay, time to improvise a little." The Urameshi girl thought to herself in a whisper while the boys watched her every move carefully but also check Byakko's strategy.
"For years I've heard of a fighter who can destroy molecular bonds with the vibration of his voice. " Hiei commented with his usual monotone voice. "I never thought I'd meet him."
"So, she can't even touch it with any spirit weapon?" Yusuke asked curiously.
"No." Hiei replied as he turned to his teammates with his usual blank face. "If she does that, it would cause a chain reaction that would destroy her entire spirit." This got Kuwabara and Yusuke to panic inside. Miyuki was able to hear the Fire Demon's explanation and it caused her to now get a little nervous. Just a little but mostly thinking about the possibilities.
"The only thing you can do now is run." The Saint Beast laughed maniacally before sending another set of Tiger Scream attacks. Miyuki let out a small gasp and just jumped from left to right, dodging each energy blast. At Byakko's third shot, Miyuki threw her kunai knives at the white tiger, hoping that it would scratch him or at least get him distracted for an opening. However, they did no work because the tiger managed to hit them away with his paw like they were nothing more than annoying flies.
"Love to play sharp I see!" Stated the Beast maliciously as he formed shiny claws with his spirit energy. "Tiger Claws!" He threw them at Miyuki who just landed on another the still standing pillar that were within her reach. With quick reflexes, she waved her hands to pull out a small amount of water and manipulate it to create a big shield made out of ice. The girl ducked behind it just as those tiger claws hit the shield, missing their real target entirely who survived the assault without a single scratch.
"What the. . . ?!" Kuwabara gasped in shock as he looked at that ice shield that is hanging in the air and is protecting his female friend. "Where did that shield come from?!" he screamed as his eyes grew bigger than the size of a melon.
With a small cold breath leaving through her lips Miyuki got up to her feet and melted the ice shield back to water form. Then the cool liquid began to crawl up to her arms and turned into long tentacles as extensions.
"I admit you surprise me!" The Saint Beast admitted with an impressed tone. " Still fighting despite your frail human body!" He soon added cockily, still believing that the female figure won't stand against him which the female Spirit Detective did not like. She didn't show that however, she just stayed quiet about it.
"Get used to it Mr. Furrball, because I won't stop until you fall." The Urameshi girl said in a monotone tone. "So now, you either give up and let us go through or I will personally send you to the gates of hell." Miyuki threatened making Byakko burst out in a good fit of laughter like he just heard the funniest thing in the whole wide world.
"You threaten me when you're in fact the one trapped?" The white triger snapped back with a victorious grin on his face. "Like all my victims before you, my Tiger Scream has proven too much!" The Saint Beast snapped before chuckling lowly.
"I don't know what you're talking about!" Kuwabara shouted with irritation. "You've never even hit her once, and with all those freaking blasts you missed her every single time!" The thug pointed out sharply making Miyuki's eyes widen a little before looking around herself, only to realize she has nowhere else to go to and that she was indeed trapped.
"Yes, but while she has been frantically running for her life, I've ensnared her!" Byakko said his own point making the female Spirit Detective turn back to her opponent with a silent glare. "Take a good look around you little doll face, I've terminated every pillar within your jumping reach. You have nowhere to go. Expect of course for the pillar I'm standing on. With all your effort, you might be able to reach me. But then I will kill you myself. " Miyuki let out a small cold air puff again as her eyes sent daggers at the monster. "Once again I'll let you choose your way to die." The giant demon taunted confidently. "Either burn up in the lava or be eaten by me!"
Miyuki took a side glance at the pillar that Byakko had left next to the girl's reach.
'He missed one on purpose.' Miyuki observed as her breath began to quicken up, due to exhaustion that is slowly catches up to her body. She feels her energy weakening, thanks to the technique that keeps her body and water's temperature low enough for her to be able to water-bend in that hot lava pit place. 'But if I move and inch, he will probably blast it away, giving me no more chances for an escape. But then again. . .' Something clicked in her mind when she remembered those new creative methods her partner Ruby had thought her and Master Yara. The perfect technique to strike, but it also guarantee's her freedom from her sticky situation.
The black-haired girl took a small step to the side, but Byakko immediately thought she was going for that pillar, so he wasted no time and blasted that as well with his roar. The girl's brother and Kuwabara gasped while Kurama's eyes began to shake with terror. Hiei, on the other hand, showed nothing but his usual blank stare. But on the contrary, he was somewhat worried on the inside for the girl's safety.
"Sorry." Byakko gave a fake apology after laughing. "The little ones are so easy to overlook. Your trapped, just accept it-." Before the beast can even finish his sentence, Miyuki took that small opening and used one of her water arms which was shot towards Byakko's head, wrap itself around the skull and freezing it fast creating a huge muzzle made out of ice. The water-bender girl smirked as her teammates gasped in shock and surprise by how the tables just turned within seconds.
"You talk too much!" Miyuki told off the Beast with a sly smirk before using her other water tentacle to send another blast onto the white tiger's body, tying him up in a rope of ice and leaving the legs only.
Byakko stared at the Urameshi girl with shock as his eyes widened in horror. He couldn't move nor summon his Tiger scream at the moment. He was completely frozen but not only by the ice, but by shock and disbelief as well. Once the water-bender was done with her icy work, the remaining water crawled down to the bottom of her shoes then boosted herself up like she just jumped onto a trampoline.
"She's jumping!" The redheaded demon exclaimed, making Yusuke and Kuwabara gasp in shock while Hiei's eyes go slightly wide.
As Miyuki flew toward Byakko with a battle cry, she raised up her right fist that was covered with some water. That froze around it, and created her Ice Fist which sent a huge punch toward the Saint Beast, right in the face, breaking the ice cuff that once covered it and giving a chance to the White Tiger to let out a scream of pain, something that made Miyuki smirk with satisfaction.
"Now go to hell!" Were her last words before disappearing behind the pillar, out of the boys' eyesight. A short high-pitched scream was heard along with a huge splash, meaning something had fallen into the lava. Or more like someone.
"MIYUKI!" Yusuke and Kuwabara yelled the girl's name while Kurama let out a small gasp. However, they received no reply. None of them saw the fall properly, but judging by the sound of that splash they all assumed the worst already without thinking twice.
"D-Did she. . . ?" Kuwabara stammered, baffled, as he felt like his heart stopped for a hot second.
"No. . ." Yusuke mumbled as his eyes were trembling with terror like he just witnessed his worst nightmare that just came true right before his eyes. "She can't. . . . It's. . . It's wrong. . . " Then the poor Urameshi boy reached his breaking point. "YOU CAN'T DIE!" He screamed into the air with so much anger and grief like his heart had just been ripped out of his chest. His knees gave out fast as he struggled to keep his tears from falling. He felt like his entire world is crumbling. The redhead shot his gaze down to his feet as his hands tensed into fists, his eyes darkened as the sadness washed over his heart, clearly feeling the pain of this loss just like his friends Yusuke and Kuwabara.
Hiei on the other hand felt disturbed, but he didn't let that show but he was stunned by the horrific sight that happened before his eyes. His right hand subconsciously moved to the left one and held onto the wrist area behind his back. The very one that the girl marked inside his dreams.
"Urameshi. . . " Kazuma called with a gentle yet grave tone. He didn't know what to say in order to give comfort for the brother who just lost his little sister. . . He had no idea what to even say anymore because the pain of this loss was just too great on him and the Urameshi boy who is struggling to keep himself together. . .
"It's all so stupid!" Yusuke screamed in frustration. "I mean we're protecting the world, so who's protecting us!" The brother was at the verge of tears as Kuwabara placed his hand on top of his friend's shoulder and look at him with an empathetic look-.
"ARE YOU GIRLS DONE CRYING YET?!" A female voice shouted out with and annoyed tone making the boys turn their attention back onto that particular pillar. Suddenly a hand stabbed onto the solid rock surface with a sharp icicle blade. Another one appeared right after along with a panting, and exhausted looking Miyuki who managed to crawl back on top of the pillar. "Jeez ladies, why with the long faces? It's. . . It's not like I died or something. . ." The female Spirit Detective breathed out heavily as she managed to get back up, but only to her knees, but not to her feet.
Yusuke and the others couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief as the huge weight had been lifted from their chests.
"AGH! She's. . ." Kuwabara exclaimed as he pointed one finger at the girl's direction while he backed away in fear like he had seen a ghost.
"She's alive!" Yusuke cried out happily his eyes lit up with joy to see his sibling alive and well.
"Thank god. . . " Kurama said in relief while his Fire Demon friend hummed quietly to himself. However, he felt relieved just like the rest of his teammate. As the female figure wiped the sweat away from her forehead, her fellow friends and brother reached her pillar.
"You are one heck of a crazy chick, you know that?" Yusuke commented with a proud grin on his face, making his little sister look up at her brother.
"Hn, well at least being crazy is better than being something that you most of the time are." Miyuki replied between breaths as she struggled to lift herself up to one knee.
"What do you mean?" Kuwabara asked curiously.
"Being what?" Yusuke asked just as curious as his thug friend was.
"Stupid." Replied the girl with a small cocky look on her face.
"Hey!" The brother figure whined while Kuwabara started to laugh with their two demon friends who are silently snickering at the sassy comment. For once Miyuki openly chuckled a little, surprising the boys a little, but they just let it slide. The girl attempted to get back on her feet, but unfortunately, as her shaky and sore feet finally landed on the solid platform, the last drop of strength in her body dried up, making her collapse.
"SIS!" Yusuke screamed and was about to catch his exhausted sibling, but to his and the others' utter surprise, Hiei beat him to it. Miyuki let out a small gasp as her tired eyes turned to the fire demon.
"Hiei. . . ?" Miyuki questioned softly as her brown orbs found the pair of crimson ones.
"You're cold." The Fire Demon stated in a monotone voice earning a small huff from.
"Well, no shit Sherlock. . ." The Urameshi girl remarked with a snarky attitude as her voice started to get hoarser and weaker. "I had to lower my own and the waters' temperature to keep them up long enough for my bending. This high temperature would have dried it all up if I didn't do it."
"Very impressive skills little Phoenix." The redheaded teen commented with a soft smile on his lips.
"And really cool!" Kuwabara said before goofily laughing. "Looks like your training with Genkai and Yara had finally paid off."
Miyuki said nothing and just let her back leant her body further into Hiei's embrace due to being too tired. Hiei's face turned slightly pink by the sudden gesture but looked away so he wouldn't see his rival's face.
"We should better get going." Kurama told them.
"Right. . ." Yusuke nodded his head in agreement with Kuwabara standing beside me.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the depths of the darkest areas, the remaining Saint Beast looked at the female spirit detective closely through their crystal ball.
"Very interesting powers." One of them spoke in a soft tone. "It's been centuries since I had seen any benders or elementals. . ."
"What a shame that it cost one of our men's life to see it." The other one replied with a deep and cold tone, and judging by that, he does not feel sorry for losing his teammate. In fact, he was annoyed that Byakko let himself look so weak, meaning he had proven himself useless just like the pervious Saint Beast. . .
"It doesn't matter now." The first Saint Beast spoke. "That female one has great potentials. A strong and fierce warrior with the power of controlling water, yet her eyes are lit up with fire that I had never seen before." He stated as he watched the said Urameshi girl being hoisted up by the redhead and now she is resting on the Fox-Demon's back which sent the Saint Beast a small wave of jealousy.
"What are you trying to imply at, Master?" The other Saint Beast asked with piercing dark-blue eyes that looked at the other figure who was hiding in the dark.
"It's simple really my friend, Seiryu." The 'Master' replied with a soft tone, his gaze still glued onto the small female figure's form. "That girl proved her worth to become one of us, and I want her to be my bride."
If anyone is curious, yes, I did get the elemental and bending ideas from ATLA (Avatar: The Last Airbender) into this universe. (Which I don't own of course, just thought it would be a pretty neat to put that into this story)
But so far in this book, what do you think about the story, the OCs and everything else? Don't forget to leave a review if you have opinions to share.
