The small team continued on their way. Yusuke on the lead with Kuwabara on the end. Hiei was on the left, while Kurama was on the right side with Miyuki on his back, resting and taking time to recover her strength. Since Fire Demon doesn't wanted to look like some weak softy, Kurama was the one who took care of the female Spirit Detective. Although, that didn't make him feel much better either for some strange reason. He didn't know the answer to that, but he has a feeling that it has to do with his rival, the Urameshi girl for sure.

The group was running up the stairs, expecting to meet the Third Saint Beast Face to face right away. However, as soon as they reached their next entrance, they saw something they weren't expecting at all.

"What?! You're kidding me!" Yusuke exclaimed in total disbelief as he looked at the many doors that that one room had. Many doors that could lead to directions either right or wrong.

"Hn, it appears we have found a maze in Maze Castle." Hiei commented dully.

"Well, I guess that makes sense." The Urameshi girl replied to his statement weakly as her tired eyes scanned each door. "How, a-maze-ing." She added sarcastically joked which got a small chuckle from her brother and the redhead.

"We must beware, it's something of a legend." Kurama began to explain his tone turning solemn. "In the beginning, before the barrier wall was erected around the city, hundreds of bounty hunters came in search of the beasts. None succeeded, but the beasts never left their tower, letting anyone who made into the castle forfeit their lives to this maze. There are fifteen doors, all but one leads to a dead end. There are no second attempts, unavoidable traps lie in the incorrect passageways. So, you see, a poor choice seals our fate." After the explanation, Kuwabara and Yusuke took a nervous and hard swallow down their throat.

"I see. . ." Miyuki murmured under her breath as she lazily placed her chin back onto her childhood friend's shoulder while her arms subconsciously got a little tighter around the teen's neck, making sure she won't fall off. Her small action made redhead tense up a little as a smallest hint of pink blush revealed itself onto his cheek. Hiei just happened to see that and he can't help but feel that burning sensation inside his chest. However, he but he just ignored it with a mental eye-roll and focused back on the doors. The Urameshi boy looked at each door but doesn't know which one should he trust so instead he turned to his fighter buddy's direction.

"Ok, Mr. Sensitive, this one's all yours." Yusuke told the orange-haired guy. He let out a small glare but did as he was told. He scanned each one closely, but one particular caught his full attention. Some sort of energy came from that one, making Kazuma gasp a little.

'That door got a big feeling about it.' Kuwabara concluded. 'Kinda like the first two monsters.' After a long pause he finally shares his information with the others. "The second door on the left."

"You heard the man, let's go." The male Spirit Detective instantly agreed without any hesitation or doubt.

"How do we know he's not making a mistake?" The Fire Demon asked impolitely, skeptical still about the human's decision which earned a glare from Kuwabara.

"I'm sorry shorty, maybe it's not your thing, but you're just going to have to trust me on this one." Kazuma replied with a serious look, making him for once look mature. "I know there's something big behind this door." Kuwabara continued on as he walked over his chosen door. "Something scary." He grabbed the doorknob and opened the door. A sudden scream escaped from his throat as he backed away and then fell on his butt. "I hate mice!" He exclaimed as his face turned pale.

"And this idiot is our teammate. . ." Miyuki mumbled out loud annoyed, making Kurama laugh at the girl silently, amused by her sassy attitude as usual while Hiei just scoffed in agreement.

"Geez Kuwabara, and that speech of yours was getting so dramatic?" Yusuke said sarcastically. The girl sighed as she shook her head.

"Let's go." Kurama said as he and the others started to walk into the room. Back in the tower, the two Saint Beast watched their guest's every move.

"Very surprising." The one, who was the leader, spoke up impressed. "Somehow they have chosen the correct door, we have hardly have it said that the four Saint Beasts welcome guests so far into their home." There was a small pause. " I'm sorry, but two Saint Beasts is more than accurate now." He corrected his statement with his early calm voice.

"I shall take them master." Seiryu replied as his eyes shined through the darkness. "You and I both know that Genbu and Byakko had become soft in these years of containment." He then stood up and walked toward the crystal a little closer. "Their tenderfoot mistakes will not be repeated."

"Very well." The mastermind agreed. "But please spare the girl and gave her to my care."

"Why, of course master." Replied Seiryu smoothly before walking away.

"You can put me down now, Rosehead." I asked the redheaded boy politely as I also found the strength for my voice.

"Are you sure you'll be okay?" The redhead asked, still concerned about my condition. Sure, I might need a bit more time for my spirit energy to return but I feel good enough to walk. At least I can spare the poor Rosehead from carrying my weight.

"Positive." I sighed with a small weak nod. He didn't seem that convinced but nonetheless he nodded back at me and crouched down and let me stand on my feet again. I stumbled a little, but the redheaded boy caught me with one hand on my shoulder while his other arm was around my small back. "It's fine. Don't worry. . ." I reassured him as I pulled away and began to rub my sleepy eyes. Man, I felt so tired. From the corner of my eyes I noticed Carrot Top looking at me with a weird expression which immediately got on my nerves. "What?" I asked him a little annoyed as I raised an eyebrow at him, not in the mood for his stupidity.

"Uhh, I have been wondering about something." Kuwabara said as he nervously scratched his cheek with his pinkie.

"Then spill it." Yusuke said with a bored tone that matched his expression pretty well.

"Are you two are dating or something?" The idiot asked as he looked between me and Shuichi. "I kinda noticed how comfortable you are with him and also you two call each other with nicknames." At that, I felt my breath get caught in my throat making me cough a little uncomfortable. I took a side glance from Rosehead, curious about his reaction, and well, he kind of looked a little taken aback like me and his ears turned a bit pink as well.

Umm, okay. . . ? He is probably just embarrassed by this idiot jumping to quick and idiotic conclusions.

"N-not really." Shuichi replied as he shifted uncomfortably, clearly a bit surprised by the unexpected question.

"We're not dating." I answered the idiot's question dully once I regained my composer. "We're just friends since we've known each other since childhood."

"Yes." Rosehead confirmed with a small nod.

"Oh. . . I see. . ." Carrot Top nodded his head before turning back ahead. But not before my brother hit him in the head. "HEY WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?"

"Idiot, you had me worried there for a second when you asked that." My oaf of a sibling snapped at him. "But just because she said she is free that won't ever give you the right start fresh with her!" Then the two started bickering on our way while I just took a deep inhale and try to keep myself from being upset by my brother's overprotectiveness. "Same goes for you Fox-Boy!" He threatened making my childhood friend just press his lips together and wisely decided to not to comment on anything while I wish I can hide myself from the embarrassment.

Even though we don't get along, he always protects me from boys, mainly because he doesn't want me to date anyone, and main reason being that is: in his stupid mind, I am not old enough to know what love is. . . and another reason that is a sore spot for the both of us. . . Anyways when things had died down my brother once more spoke up.

"Now that you mentioned it though, I kind of find it funny that we have never met." Yusuke commented as we kept on walking. "I mean we met your brother Sanyu, but I had never seen you around." At the mention of that name, I felt my body tense up a little.

"Well now that you mentioned it, this is indeed surprising." Kurama replied in agreement.

"Uhh, I'm a little lost here. . . " Carrot head said a little puzzled.

"Hn." I scoffed as I began to walk to the front. "Let's save the stupid chit-chat for later, we still got two beasts to deal with." I really don't like to talk anymore about the topic. It's not like I am ashamed of it, it's just painful for me still.

After walking for a good amount of time, we finally reached another huge door. It was blue that had gold outlines and other decorations. Lightning struck for like three times, creating a dramatic effect and shade for those dragon statues that were guarding the door at each side.

"Are we supposed to be scared?" Hiei asked with the slightest hint of annoyance in his voice.

"Perhaps." Shuichi replied. "That is the mark of the blue dragon, and judging by the odor, I'd say the beast is inside."

"Yeah, and he doesn't feel very nice." Kazuma agreed.

"But it does feel cold for sure." I commented as I felt that small amount of energy coming out of it. The door suddenly creaked, meaning the door opened up. As soon as it did so I felt my body shiver a little, even though I am a water-bender, people who are usually used to low temperatures like these. We made our way to the inside. I saw nothing but the fog that felt. . . alive. . .

"This fog's alive!" Kurama confirmed my statement, making me look around warily. The third Saint Beast must be here then.

"Must be a form of Spirit Energy coming from our beast's body." Hiei observed.

"You have done very well, to come this far." A deadly calm and cold voice spoke to us, making me tense up a little and get into a defensive position in reflex. "But I shall no longer allow you to disgrace my master."

"Where's that voice coming from?" Kazuma asked with a small hint of fear in his voice.

"I don't know." My brother replied before turning his gaze into the fog. "Come out now dragon! This whole hide and seek thing's getting pretty lame." Yusuke shouted impatiently as always, just then a sudden flash of lightning sparkled inside the room making me back away one step and cover my eyes. My ears caught an explosion as well. . .

"As you request." That voice acknowledged. I uncovered my eyes and look at the monster in front of us. A very tall man with pale-green skin, black hair with a pointed mustache and beard on his chin. He was wearing a blue martial arts robe that had a blue dragon wrapped around his body while the head was resting at the right shoulder area.

"A giant!" Kuwabara exclaimed, surprised and scared.

"You may call me Seiryu. I am here not to end your lives, intruders." That monster said coolly with a confident yet cold smirk before his eyes darted to my direction, making me narrow my eyes at him.

"Well, he's no dragon, but he is ugly." Yusuke 'complimented' bitterly.

"It is not wise to say such things to your executioner." The ugly - giant scoffed before smirking again. "However, once I am done with you all I shall take the girl with me." I felt my heart stopped at the moment before letting my jaw almost drop to the floor.

What the hell?

"What is that supposed to mean?" Yusuke demanded angrily.

"Yeah, what are you planning to do with Miyuki?!" Kuwabara asked as well, just as enraged as my brother was.

"I plan nothing, but my master does have some with her." Seiryu explained before turning his sharp eyes toward me. "You see, he was very pleased with the skills you had shown in your fight with Byakko. Might as well add I was also impressed by your abilities. You would make a nice addition to our group and the perfect bride for my master as he put it."

I sent him a glare as my fists began to get tighter. Bastards, I am not an object that you can just claim. How dare they?!

Out of nowhere, Shuichi and Hiei shield me along with the other two boys who were at the front.

"Over my dead body, you freak!" Yusuke snapped as both fists were raised up in the air.
"Oh?" Seiryu wondered out loud. "You care that much for my master's future queen."

"You bet I am!" My overprotective brother shouted. "If you even dare to lay a finger on Miyu I will personally rip your head off."

"Yeah." Kazuma chimed in. "We won't let you take her away from us. She is a living being, not a trophy."

"Very well then." Seiryu hummed smoothly. "Then I shall finish you off quickly." I notice his eyes suddenly go wide for a moment. "It appears we have another guest." The third Saint Beast said out loud.

I suddenly turned to the door. Blocking the outside world's voices, I placed my hand down to the floor and concentrate on the vibration and the spirit energy of that guest. As soon as I finally found it, I shot up from the ground and readied myself to fight. This energy. It's weak, but it was also familiar. And not the good kind of way.

"No way. . . " I growled, baring my teeth like a wild animal. The door burst open and soon. . . Byakko limped in. That monster is alive still. . .

"You must help me." The white tiger pleaded with a hoarse voice as his whole body was covered with either burn marks or bruises.

"You're joking." Yusuke breathed as we all watched the injured Saint Beast stumble forward to his comrade. I felt someone grabbing me by my shoulders and pulled me away from Byakko's path since I was a bit frozen.

How in the world did he even survive that lava bath?

"Please, Seiryu." The tiger begged as he reached a hand toward the other beast. "These cowards, that brat tricked me in my own lair. She hid her true powers from me until the end. You must help me recover."

"I knocked that guy straight into the lava." I growled with anger.

"What does it take to kill this guy?" Yusuke groaned as I walked back to his right side. He was frustrated and so was I. Insulted even from Byakko's comment.

"Weakling." Seiryu spat out in disgust. "How dare you dishonour us further?!"

"Please, Seiryu!" Byakko begged again like a kicked mutt on the street, but by looking at the other saint beast, he had none of this nonsense.

"You are no longer wanted here, you're a disgrace." The Ice king said as he shifted into a stance. His right fist was covered in a small white mist, that was her spirit energy. Then suddenly that mist began to circle around his figure as well.

"No, Seiryu." The white tiger again attempted to convince his comrade, who was now all charged up with ice-cold energy. "I can help you destroy them, it was a small mistake!" His plea fell to deaf ears and the only way Seiryu could reply to Byakko's pathetic excuse was. . .

"ICE DRAGON!" He shouted before throwing his fist forward, releasing a beam of ice energy right at Byakko whose body was soon covered with thick ice.

"What the. . . ?" Yusuke gasped while I feel my eyes trembling in horror. That ice felt more powerful than my attack back. I can manipulate the water into ice, but not in the way that this demon had done it. No. It wasn't just a layer of ice. That looked deeper and deadly. . . like. . . . it managed to freeze the entire body from the skin into the very inch of the bones. And I admit it terrified me on the inside. . .

"He's frozen!" Kuwabara exclaimed in shock. Seiryu suddenly jumped up in the air and kicked Byakko in the middle of the chest. The body shattered into million pieces like a porcelain vase and the only thing that remained in one piece is the head.

"Hm, you were right about my fog of energy." The Saint Beast said as he landed and turned back to us. "By lowering it to subzero temperatures, I can wrap my enemy in ice." Just like his power it matched perfectly with his ice-cold heart.

And I don't like it one bit!

"You heartless bastard!" Yusuke shouted angrily. "How could you kill off your own friend?!"

"Seiryu. . . Wh-?!" Byakko let out his last breath before coughing up blood.

"He was a weapon, not a friend." Seiryu said. "And like a cheap sword, he rusted." He then spits right into the tiger's face. Byakko whimpered one last time before turning his head away slightly and with one last tear in his eye, he moved no more.

I feel my anger boiling inside of me. My left shoulder warming up again, as my hands clenched into fists. But I did not care. I wanted to make him pay.

"This race of beasts has no loyalty, alliance are formed strictly to gain power." Kurama explained making my anger grew even higher.

"I don't care what kind of race they are, it's never right to kill your own teammate, especially when they come asking you for help." Kuwabara protested enraged.

"This guy pushed me too far, he's dead!" Yusuke growled.

"Indeed, he is." I agreed with my brother.

"Save your anger." Hiei butted in before my brother and I even lifted a finger. "You can take their leader. I insist this fight be mine." The demon replied with a stern voice before making his way towards Seiryu.

"Ah, shall you be first, Hiei?" The Ice-King asked with a challenging smirk. I look at the two intensely, but then my eyes went to Hiei, feeling worried just like when I watched Shuichi and Kazuma fight. . .

I raised my right fist up to my chest while my other hand grabbed onto my wrist, which had that tattoo mark.

Despite his nasty attitude I was worried for him but knowing his talent and skills, I have a feeling that he is going to win this. I see his right hand move and pull his black cloak off of him before throwing it right at Byakko's head. Something that surprised me a little just like the time he caught me in Byakko's Lair. I mean from someone so cocky, arrogant and prideful like him. . . It was hard to imagine him doing something like that. . .

That's when some realization hit me in the gut. . .

"He's a puzzle isn't he?" I hear my redheaded friend spoke up, making me look at Rosehead. "In times before, I've seen Hiei act with similar cruelty." My eyes went back to the said demon who was now in a stance. His right hand reaching the hilt of his sword while blue spirit energy began to surround his figure. It felt warm and really strong. Different from the one I had encountered back when we first fought. "But something about Byakko's execution has caused great anger in him." Shuichi continued on. "Hiei seems to live by his own code with very complex rules, but one thing for certain, never before have I seen Hiei begin a fight using such an extraordinary amount of energy."

"Good, as long as he kicks some ass." Yusuke said, eager to see what Hiei is capable of now. Seiryu began to release his own spirit energy as well, spreading his coldness around the entire room and surrounding us as well.

"I assure you Hiei, it is not too late to join our ranks." The monster offered, just like that Gian Eyeball at the Gate of betrayal. "Prostrate yourself with the girl before my master and he shall give the both of you power and fame beyond what you could have tasted." There was a small pause before Hiei broke the silence.

"Is that all you have to say?" Hiei asked in a scoff, earning a questioning hum from Ice King. "They're last words, you know." The demon boy smirked cockily.

"Fine!" Seiryu snapped, finally having enough. "So that is your choice, then you shall meet your death with the other weaklings!" He then let out a battle cry as he shot a huge blast of smoke toward Hiei. He raised up his sword and slice through it, parting them away into two different paths. I shield the strong wind with my hands, but my feet were sliding backward, making me accidentally bump into someone who in reflex wrapped his arms around me. I hear something crash, but I didn't look up until that wind blow was over. Once I finally managed to see things, I look up above, locking my eyes with those green emerald ones.

"You can let go of me now, ya know?" I told him with a monotone tone as my lips turned into a straight line.

"Sorry." Kurama apologized softly before letting me go and turn his attention back to the fight. I did the same, only to let out a gasp in fright.

"That freeze technique!" Yusuke warned Hiei.

"RUN!" I shouted right after my brother's warning. Seiryu shot his Ice Dragon attack right at Hiei's direction, but thankfully the demon boy managed to dodge it with his speed. He jumped up, did a front flip, then land right behind the Saint Beast who later on began to laugh.

"I'm sorry, I had forgotten of your impressive speed." Seiryu said with a smug look. "Now let's try again!" Then the beast attempted to do the same thing again and again, not stopping for one second. Hiei managed to dodge all of it. As he dodged every ice blasts, the shots hit the walls of the room.

"He's gonna turn the whole room into a hockey ring." Yusuke commented.

"Not just the room." Kuwabara added with a shaky voice, but I didn't turn to him and just followed Hiei's every move.

"HIEI!" I cried out in worry as soon as I saw his left leg being hit and turn into ice as the demon was still in the mid-air. Hiei placed both hands out onto the floor, landing in a handstand before carefully placing his frozen leg down.

"Hey, he's okay!" Yusuke assured me.

"Yeah, don't scare us like that." Carrot top scolded at me. I just shook my head firmly in reply while the grip on my right wrist got tighter.

"No, his leg." I hear Kurama explain. "He won't be able to run away anymore." I pulled my right fist strongly to my chest while I feel my body shivering a little. Not because of the coldness of the room, but mostly because of fear.

'Hiei. . .' I feel my bottled up emotions again, bubbling up to the surface. I didn't know why I felt this way, but at the moment, my main concern was Hiei and his well-being.

"Hm, you see, no one ever escapes, only beg for mercy." Seiryu said smugly earning a glare from Hiei and me of course. "With your leg frozen, you can't possibly move. I suggest you to start grovelling." The Saint Beast taunted as he prepared himself for another blow. I feel his power charging up.

"What can he do?!" My brother pulled out the question right out of my mouth as the Ice King shot another blast at Hiei. The demon raised up his sword then with its help he leaped toward Seiryu, dodging his attack in the process.

"Now your end!" The Ice King shouted as he prepared for another blast. Just as Hiei got closer, Seiryu shot his blast, however, what he didn't know is that Hiei was slicing him into pieces. It was hard to see it clearly but from my vision, I counted at least thirteen cuts. But while those slicing moves, his left arm, and other leg froze just like his first one. After that attack, Hiei landed a few feet away from us.

"Hiei!" My brother called out for him while I held my breath.

"Ha! You have escaped, but you are wounded." Ice King stated confidently. Hiei responded with a peal of small laughter, making the Beast look confused and surprised. "Why are you laughing?" Hiei got back up to his feet and turned his back toward us while facing his opponent.

"So, what if your ice trick can kill your wounded friend? It won't kill me." He then balled his left hand into a fist. The ice cover around that area shattered and turned back to normal. Same thing happened with both of his legs.

"That's impossible!" Seiryu breathed out in complete disbelief. "I shall give one final blow!" He snarled, just before the blood started to come out under his blue hat, which shocked him completely.

"I don't think so." Hiei replied as the body of the beast began to crack like glass. . . or more like ice. With a scream of agony, his whole body perished into a cloud of smoke. I finally let out a breath that I had been holding.

"When did he attack?" Kazuma asked a little lost. I just smirked before I approached the Sword-Man himself with Yusuke.

"You made French fries out of that guy!" Yusuke said in amazement as soon as he and his sibling got there along with the others.

"Hiei, how many times did you cut him?" The redheaded boy asked curiously while smiling.

"Only Sixteen." Hiei replied simply like it was not a big deal.

'Impressive.' Miyuki thought to herself.

"Sixteen?!" Yusuke exclaimed in disbelief. "Damn it! And here I could only keep track of seven or eight." My brother whined, sensing his jealousy coming from the tip of his tongue.

"That's nothing meagre." Kurama replied with honesty. "After the first hit, I only saw flashes of light."

"I couldn't even see the flashes." Kuwabara said with a sad pout like someone just stole his sandwich.

"What about you little sis?" Yusuke asked curiously.

"Thirteen." Replied the girl, back to her usual monotone and blank self again before making her way over to Hiei's black cloak.

"Wow, you got some sharp eye there Miyu." Yusuke commented before turning back to the fire demon. "Man, this isn't good, if you would use those moves on me, I'm gonna be screwed." The brother figure said as he rubbed the back of his hair nervously.

"Maybe." Hie replied with a shrug before going over to Miyuki, who just lifted up the cloak from Byakko's head, that a moment later disappeared in a small green flash of light. The two humans looked surprised.

"I thought for sure he was gonna say 'Well, of course you fool'. "Kuwabara grumbled mimicking Hiei's voice.

"Hiei is going through a tricky change." Kurama began explaining, earning his teammates' attention. " It appears he's beginning to like you." At that Kazuma and Yusuke turned to Miyuki and Hiei.

The girl turned to the fire demon with. . . a small smile on her face as she handed the cloak back to it's owner.

"Nice one Hiei." Complimented the girl, making the demon froze in surprise. He blinked twice blankly as he felt funny on the inside.

"Hn." He replied with a hum as usual as his left hand grabbed his cloak from the girl. At that very moment, Miyuki noticed his marked wrist, which made her eyes go wide a little.

Hiei had a tattoo that matched hers, the only difference is that it was the Ying side with a white phoenix inside of it. As the demon swung his cloak over his shoulder he turned away from the girl while she did the same, both feeling conflicted while trying to hide their true feelings from everyone.

"Let's get a move on." Hiei spoke with a serious tone before walking away. Miyuki just nodded mutely and followed her teammate before she dropped her smile and moved back into their mission.

"AH! Did you see that? She did it again?!" Kuwabara exclaimed in shock as he pointed at the Urameshi girl who smiled a few seconds ago.

"See what?" Yusuke asked annoyed, clearly not wanting to fuss about anything, and by that anyone can tell that he did not see anything. Before the orange-haired guy could answer The Urameshi boy already left him to catch up to the two. Fuming in frustration Kazuma grumpily ran after him with Kurama by his side who held a knowing smile on his face.

'Looks like our little Phoenix is going through some changes as well . . . ' He thought to himself with a small hint of sadness in his chest. 'Meaning her flame is coming back little by little.' He thought to himself happily, but also a little sadly.

Happy that his best friend starts to change back to her old self, and sad about the fact that it was not him, who was able to lit up her dying spark. But either way that will not stop the redhead to be supportive of her and be the friend like she was when they were young. . .
