Minerva had moved up to leading her own team quickly in the Magical Law Enforcement department. She had begged to put her own team together from new recruits instead of having the Head put her team together. Theseus Scamander had been suprised by the request but allowed her to do so just out of curiosity. The witch had amazing insight.
Minerva had picked quite the team. A fellow Scotsman, a half giant, a wizard of Goblin blood, and a set of twins made up her team. He had raised an eyebrow in silent question but never said a word. Within months, he had the answer to his unasked question. Her team was unstoppable and had the highest success rate in the entire department.
Today found Minerva and her team in front of a compound in Wales. The department had received intelligence a wanted wizard was held up in this compound. Three other teams had been dispatched earlier in the day and communication had been lost with each. Theseus and Minerva's teams were going in for a rescue mission. Thoughts of capturing the wanted wizard were pushed to the wayside. The department didn't like to leave their own when they could rescue them.
"This doesn't feel right," Minerva whispered to Theseus.
"I know," he responded, grit determination etched into his facial features. "It can't be helped. We both know neither of us couldn't stand by and do nothing while these witches and wizards were killed."
"Aye," she agreed. "My team left and yours right?"
"Yes," he agreed. "Emergency portkeys to all survivors. We don't know who is friend or foe. They had to have inside help for three teams to be cut off."
"Understood," she responded and lead her team towards the left.
Two hours later, Minerva and her team had met up with Theseus' team on the main floor of the compound. "Team 3 is intact and sent back," Minerva briefed. "There were nine young witches bring held in the dungeon that were sent as well."
"Team 2 were fine as well," Theseus offered. "Three members of team 1 are dead. Yaxley and McNair were missing."
"Missing or traitors," Minerva asked low enough only he heard her.
"Both are blood purists," Theseus answered rationally. "My gut is saying they are drawing your team here for annihilation and me for allowing you to have your team to begin with."
"Most likely," Minerva said grimly. "Now where are the bastards."
"Ask and you shall receive," Yaxley said as he walked out in dark robes with a band of others. "I have been waiting on you Minerva. It's time to end your career, permanently. Your success has brought more witches and halfbreeds into the Ministry and that can't be allowed. Pureblood wizards should be in charge. I plan to rectify things!"
"You are foolish then," Minerva replied calmly. "You can certainly try to end me but the time for purebloods only to rule is gone. If you kill me I shall only stand as a martyr for the cause and my Tom shall rally the forces and decimate you."
"That's a risk I willing to take," Yaxley comment and immediately started firing spells at Minerva.
Minerva threw her shield up and started barking orders at her team. She noted Theseus did the same to his. The two best duelers on Minerva's team pushed to the front and Minerva focused on putting the opposing wizards on defense. She used her unparalleled skills in Transfiguration and caused the room to come alive.
Theseus looked at her in wonder as every piece of furniture in the room transformed into animals on the the prowl or traps to disable the opposing side. A slicing spell to his leg forced him back into the fight.
The fighting remained tense until Yaxley went down. Minerva noticed the wild look in McNair's eyes and yelled frantically, "Units together now, combined shield."
Theseus didn't question her order and immediately moved towards the group. She had earned his respect and it seemed everyone else's as well. The two teams huddled together and raised a combined protective shield just as McNair and his remaining band of dark wizards had blown the building up with various potions hidden in the room. The Dark fraction had sacrificed themselves for their cause.
Theseus felt the shield weakening and looked at the group. Determined faces remained but their magical reserves were failing and it was only a matter of time before the shield failed and they would be crushed by the collapsing compound. "It's been a privilege," he said emotionally. "Never served with a better group."
He noticed the group wore saddened faces but was determined as well. Minerva was shifted by the others to the middle of the group. It seem the men were determined to save her as much as possible from impact.
Theseus looked over towards Minerva as he saw a light emitting from her left wrist. "What's that," he asked.
Minerva looked at her wrist and gasped. "The bracelet of Morgan le Fay," she gasped. "I forgot about it."
"What does it do," the half giant asked.
"It hasn't been worn since Morgan le Fay," she admitted. "All I know is that the Veela offered it to Tom to protect me. It hasn't glowed like that since the moment it has been put on my wrist."
"Hopefully it will offer protection for all of us," one of the twins said. "I have a date tonight."
Minerva snorted in amusement as she looked at her friend. "I hope you make it Gavin."
The protection shield completely broke down but the team was surrounded by the glow of Minerva's bracelet. Minerva watched as the group dropped to their knees one by one from exhaustion. She collapsed with them and thought of her husband. She might have saved him from the Dark Arts but she had denied him their children. Their Hermione would never have the chance at life now. Minerva knew she had met her demise. "I'm sorry Tom," she whispered as she closed her eyes and lost consciousness from Magical exhaustion.
