"What the hell?"
Subaru's happy ending was ruined once again it seemed, or at least interrupted. The world must have had it out for him. Still, he had no idea what that massive sound was. It sounded like an explosion, but he did not expect anyone else to be in the forest, especially after Elsa and the White Rabbit were killed.
The rest of the people in the room would be in a frenzy. Some were panicking thinking it was an attack by someone else, especially after dealing with so many enemies the past few days. Others were simply confused and trying to get a grasp of what was going on. Emilia and Subaru would stop their dance, albeit sadly, to try to get a scope on what was happening.
"The 'ell was 'at?"
A certain demi-human hybrid would say, an aggressive look spread across his face. He seemed to be pissed, especially since something ruined his captain's special day.
"Now now Garfiel-san, it couldn't have been anything that bad."
A familiar merchant would say, trying to calm down Garfiel as to not have some sort of fight break out. That's our best boy Otto for you.
Subaru and Emilia would rush to the window, seeing plumes of smoke rising from the forest about a mile away. His suspicions were confirmed… An explosion.
"It seemed to be an explosion of some sort, I suppose."
Beatrice would say to Subaru as she would arrive right behind him. She must have left Petra to go with her contractor.
An odd expression would be spread across Subaru's face, one that seemed to be a mixture of anxiousness and worry. He was hoping to hell he did not get into another situation where he had to return by death. Still… He felt he had to check it out head-on and prevent people from getting hurt.
"Let's go Beako."
He would say, turning towards the exit and grasping Beatrice's hand. Beatrice would nod her head, following along. At his side would be the sword that Emilia had just knighted him with not too long ago. He was already possibly about to use it. What an unnerving thought!
"Wait Su-"
Emilia would be cut off mid-sentence by Subaru as he'd ask sometime of her, stopping and only looking back a bit.
"Make sure everyone stays inside, Emilia-tan. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing I let you get hurt the day I was knighted to you."
At first, she would be hesitant to just let him leave, but after seeing the conviction in his eyes she would nod her head as determination would fill her own eyes. She was going to uphold Subaru's wishes!
Subaru would nod back, before leaving with Beatrice and making sure to close the doors behind him. Leaving the manner, he would begin his walk to the plumes of smoke. Quite the easy walk, seeing as the plumes of smoke were not too far away and easy to follow.
About fifteen minutes would have passed since they started their walk, and Subaru would be just about to break the tree line, with an expression of determination spread across his face showing he was ready to see what the hell was going on.
"Let's see what made that sound!"
Subaru would yell out pumping his hand into the air. Beatrice would mimic him hesitantly and a bit confusedly, but hey, give her an A for effort.
"What the-"
Subaru would be met with a certainly confusing sight, to say the least… It was a helicopter and an American one at that. Why the hell was an American Helicopter doing in Lugnica? So many questions were flooding Subaru's head, eroding away at his brain.
Beatrice on the other hand would be utterly confused, and that was a severe understatement. She had never seen such a thing in her life, and whatever it is it was destroyed, with smoke clearly rising from it.
"Betty has never seen such a thing before, in fact. What is it, I wonder?"
She would ask no one in particular. It was mostly directed at herself, actually, but partially at Subaru.
"It's a he-"
Subaru would quickly catch himself, deciding against letting Beatrice know what this was in front of her. Beatrice would grow quite annoyed that her contractor was keeping secrets from her, and decided to voice her opinion out.
"Betty's contractor should not be keeping secrets from her, in fact."
Subaru would let out a sigh, deciding he could tell just her. I mean, she was his contracted spirit. He felt that it was her right to know when he thought about it.
"It's a helicopter… It allowed people from my hometown to fly."
Beatrice would hear Subaru's attitude… It seemed he clearly didn't want to dive any further, so she decided to let it go.
"What are you going to do with it, I wonder?"
Subaru was not sure himself, but he knew he could not let the people of Lugnica get their hands on it, and especially not Anastasia. This was a weapon of war and death. He could not let such a thing ever-corrupt this world like it did to his.
"I'm going to… We're going to hide it. We cannot let anyone know about this. We'll tell them it was a dry lightning strike or something like that."
Beatrice didn't really understand why he wanted to hide it, but what she did understand is her contractor was serious about it and must have his reason. She could never ignore her contractor's requests after all. He was her number one!
Subaru would walk towards the crash, motioning for Beatrice to stay away.
"For now I'm going to investigate."
He would start looking through the wreckage, turning his head occasionally as to not inhale any of that damned smoke. Whoever was piloting must have been reduced to ash, seeing as he could find no bodies remaining. What he did find though was a few mangled guns. All of them of no use. Damn. Those could have been helpful for defeating The White Rabbit or killing Elsa.
He would continue looking until he found a point of interest…
"The black box! Yes!"
Beatrice would be a bit confused about what her contractor was blabbering on about, but she would still listen intently.
Subaru would switch on the black box eagerly to hear what happened, and he would hear…! Nothing. Absolutely nothing but static. He would let out a sigh of sadness as he moved his hands to turn it off until he heard one word.
'Japan'
Yes, it was in English, but Subaru could still hear for sure it was Japan that was said, by English speakers for sure. Americans probably, hearing the accents.
He would continue listening, only to arrive on more static. The explosion must've caused the black box to be damaged or corrupted, he assumed, turning it off he would throw it back with the rest of the wreckage, before standing up and walking back towards Beatrice who was patiently waiting for him.
"When we get back we do not tell them what this was. We will say it was dry lightning, okay Beako?"
Subaru would say to Beatrice, giving the okay hand.
"Why should we keep this secret, I wonder?"
Beatrice finally decided to voice her confusion, wanting to see what was so serious as to hide this from everyone.
"In my hometown, this was used as a weapon of death and destruction… I don't want such a thing to be taken by the wrong hands or any hands at all."
Pain would visibly fill Subaru's expression as he would answer. He was reminded of the wars that raged back on Earth, and how brutal they were compared to here. Subaru never wanted Lugnica to be a repeat of Earth.
"O- Okay Subaru, I suppose…"
She would respond back with no further questions, as they would begin walking back. Admittedly Beatrice was a bit sad that she brought so much pain to her contractor, with just that one question. She made a mental note to never ask such a thing again… Beatrice felt she was there to help her contractor, not hurt them.
While walking back, a thought would pop into Subaru's head. He needed to tell Al about this… A fellow isekai'd person. This would be hella important for someone like him, just like how it is for Subaru.
Now with the mystery solved, he knew what he was going to do within the next few days. Go to the capital and alert Al to what went down. Still, despite what he was going to do being planned, one question remained. How did a helicopter get to Lugnica?
Hello once again! This is the second chapter as you can see... Well, technically the first, as the chapter before this was the prologue. Still, tell me what you think! I'd love some constructive criticism to help improve my writing, also.
Expect the next chapter tomorrow.
