"I'm so sorry," he whispers, his words so faint I barely heard it. I look over to Percy leaning against the railing of the ship, looking out towards the churning sea. "I don't want forgiveness, but...I am sorry."
"Forgiveness? There is nothing to forgive," I told him. I place my hand on his back in comfort but then he just turns and starts to walk away. He didn't believe me.
"You did nothing wrong," I said to him. He stops and then turns back around. To face me, his body and expression were devoid of any emotion until I looked into his eyes. The storming sea that was clouding over his mind, breaking him down piece by piece.
"You know she was pregnant," Percy states. What?
"Annabeth was-"
"No not...her, my mother. She was pregnant and I left her," he said his voice almost cracking. "She died because of me. Jason died because of me. Annabeth died because of me, now these mortals are going to die because of me. Still think there's nothing to forgive," he spat the last bit out with anger. Although he was referring to my words, I don't think it was me he was angry about. He was angry at himself.
"Percy...None of their deaths was your fault. You have to realise this, if you don't, they will haunt you till the day you die."
He mumbled something under his breath that I couldn't quite hear, although I had a feeling it was important. Speaking up he said, "It doesn't matter, we're here."
I look out towards the sea and see a landmass come into view along the Horizon. England hopefully.
"I'll go wake up the others," I told him, allowing him some time with his thoughts. He had so much to sort out, his brain was a tangled fishing line that only he could unwind.
I walk down into the cabin of this luxurious boat, knocking on one of the room's doors. There was no reply, so I let myself in.
I look around the room spotting Macy and Jake sprawled out on the couches, asleep. We still hadn't told them everything. They don't even believe the gods are real yet, especially Macy who didn't even have the sight. They shouldn't have come yet they did, I could see why Percy had them as friends. They were loyal, the same as him. I am sure the other two he was acquainted with would have done the same, yet they had their loyalty to their family to keep in mind.
"Wake up," I said and shook on Macy's shoulder. She stirred, slowly opening her eyes. I then do the same to Jake.
"Why did you wake me up," Macy groaned, still half asleep.
"We're here," I told them, "Get your arses up and meet me on the deck in five."
I turn around and walk back onto the deck myself, spotting Percy glaring towards something on the land. His eyes were narrowed, and he started to direct the ship towards the land.
"Percy, we should find a port or something," I suggested, looking towards the forest we were heading towards, "No point docking in the middle of nowhere."
"There's something there," he replied. I squinted my eyes to where he was looking and he was right, there was something there. A small group of people, yet they were covered in blood and dirt. They did not look right.
"Monsters," Percy guessed.
"We don't have to fight them. They are in the middle of nowhere, we can just ignore them and go to a port," I told him trying to avoid any unnecessary conflicts.
He did not reply to me and keeps the ship on the same course. As we approach closer to the group Percy draws out Riptide.
"Percy, there's no need," I almost beg him. Why does he want to run into this fight?
The group started to move towards the ocean, towards us. They walked unusually, more limping than walking making them seem even more monster-like. I was sure Percy could fight them off, but for what purpose? It just creates more of a risk.
I feel the presence of Macy and Jake behind me. "Where are we going?" Jake asked. Looking at the direction the boat was travelling.
The land was close now, only fifty meters out and I could tell that the monster seemed to be appearing as females. Young girls...
That was when it hit me. I looked across their blurred faces, my eyes glued to one of them. "Percy...that's Thalia," I said in a daze. What happened to her?
He did not reply still, but he withdrew riptide changing it back into its pen form. The boat continued moving across the seas, slowing down until it collided into the rocky shore.
