Slytherin never hosted a House party, at least Jade never saw a House Party take place but now she stood in the middle of the Gryffindor Common Room and cheered along with the rest of them as Harry held up his Firebolt for them all to see and then passed it off to Ron at his side. Jade sat with Hermione as they listened to Angelina Johnson recite her last moments on the pitch before Harry caught the Snitch. She was enthusiastically reenacting how she fought away a Ravenclaw Chaser as she scored the last goal before Harry caught the Snitch. Hermione and Jade smiled and nodded as they listened, casually sharing a glance when they realized they were stuck there listening to Angelina until they could find a way to escape. Thankfully, after a few minutes Harry came over to them and Jade took the opportunity to make her escape.
"Hi, Harry!" Jade smiled, "Where's Ron?" Jade could see the red-head in the middle of a crowd of students on the other side of the room as he proudly brandished the Firebolt.
"Oh, he's-" Harry pointed back at him and Jade rose from the couch.
"I'm gonna go say hi." Hermione watched after her, she didn't know why Hermione didn't just come with her. She and Ron must still be fighting.
"Jade! Have you seen it yet?" Ron asked as she made her way into the circle. "Wanna hold it?" He offered her the broom.
"You said I could have it next." Seamus Finnigan objected and Jade shook her head.
"I'm good, thanks." She told Ron and then he turned and gave the broom to Seamus carefully. Fred and George disappeared for an hour or two and returned with armfuls of bottles of butterbeer, pumpkin fizz, and bags full of Honeydukes sweets.
"How did you do that?" Angelina asked, coming around from the couch to join the large crowd that was quickly forming around the twins. George dug into one of the bags and threw a handful of Peppermint Toads out at them.
"With a little help from Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs," Fred muttered towards Harry.
"Who?" Jade asked quietly and Harry looked at her then back at the twins who were continuing to throw candy at the crowd.
"I'll show you later." He told her and she nodded. The only person who wasn't joining in the festivities was Hermione, she was still sitting on the couch, attempting to read a very large book. Her brow was furrowed and she chewed at the bottom of her lip, it was hard to focus with all of the cheering. Harry broke away from the table where Fred and George had started juggling butterbeer bottles and went over to her, Jade followed closely behind. "Did you even come to the match?" he asked her.
"Of course I did," Hermione said in a strangely high-pitched voice without looking up from her book. "And I'm very glad we won, and I think you did really well, but I need to read this by Monday."
"Come on, Hermione, come and have some food." Jade tried and Harry nodded in agreement.
"I can't. I've still got four hundred and twenty-two pages to read!" She said, her voice rising even more. "Anyway…" Hermione glanced over at Ron. "He doesn't want me to join in." Jade rolled her eyes.
"Who cares?" She stated but there was no arguing with her, as if on cue, Ron chose that moment to say loudly,
"If Scabbers hadn't just been eaten, he could have had some of those Fudge Flies. He used to really like them-" Jade went to say something about how Ron was being childish and that Hermione should just go on about her life, who cares if Ron was going to be all wound up about a rat but Hermione burst into tears. Before either of them could say or do anything, she tucked the enormous book under her arm and ran toward the staircase to the girls' dormitories and out of sight.
"Can't you give her a break?" Harry turned as Ron made his way over to them.
"No," Ron said sharply.
"You're being daft." Jade blurted out and Ron opened his mouth to argue but Jade wasn't Hermione and she wouldn't let Ronald Weasley get an attitude with her for just stating it how it was. "An insensitive fool who's putting a petty fight above your friendship with one of your best friends."
"A petty fight?" Ron repeated, "Her cat killed Scabbers!"
"And you honestly believe she doesn't feel awful about it?" She asked and Ron paused,
"If she just acted like she was sorry-" He stopped again and the hardness returned to his eyes. "But she'll never admit she's wrong. She's still acting like Scabbers has gone on vacation or something."
"Just talk to her," Harry added,
"I have talked to her."
"No, you've yelled at her and blamed her." Jade corrected him and then glanced at the grandfather clock in the corner of the room. "I have to go, it's getting late." She told them. "Have fun with the rest of the party." She smiled at both of the boys. "Just talk to her," Jade told Ron before making her way to the portrait entrance of the Common Room.
"Maddex!" She heard one of the twins call her and she turned around, "Not going just yet, are you?" Fred threw an arm around her shoulders and pulled her back towards the crowd but she held her ground.
"I am. I'm tired." She smiled at him and he leaned and gave her a face, as if questioning if that was really why she was leaving.
"Okay, catch you later then?" He asked as he lifted his arm off of her.
"Of course. Thank you for the invite." She told him and he gave her a nod and a wave goodbye. Jade quietly made her way to the dungeons and then slipped into the Slytherin Common Room. She let out a deep breath once she knew she was safe from being spotted by Filch or his scary-looking cat. There were a few students who were still up and they looked at her as she entered. "What?" She glared at them, the sharp snap of her tone turned their heads back around and she smirked as she made her way down to her room. Pansy was laying on her bed, reading a book.
"How was the-" Pansy started but Jade shushed her,
"Wait, I want to capture this moment so it can live in my memory. Pansy Parkinson, are you reading for fun?" She asked and Pansy rolled her eyes as she closed the book and set it on the nightstand next to her bed. "Oh, I've scared her off." Jade smiled as she made her way to her bed and landed on it with a soft thud.
"How was the party?" Pansy asked again and Jade sighed.
"It was fun, Hermione and Ron are still fighting, but other than that…" She trailed off and Pansy waited. "Mostly we just talked. The twins somehow got a hold of a whole bunch of goodies from Honeydukes."
"Did you bring back anything for me?" Pansy batted her eyelashes.
"No, I left a little after that."
"Why?" She asked and Jade closed her eyes.
"I'm tired," Jade told her and Pansy looked over to see Jade all curled up under her blanket, she looked like she would be asleep within seconds.
"Goodnight Jade," Pansy whispered as she extinguished the lantern by her bed.
"Goodnight Pansy." Once the room settled and Jade's mind began to slow down it didn't take long for her to drift to sleep.
