Here's another oneshot for the MCU.
Spoilers for Endgame ahead. Because if my sister still hasn't seen it, then other people probably haven't either.
MY OTP IS FINALLY HAPPY!
I do have some problems with the ending (being there wasn't enough Peggy in it, but I guess it would have interrupted the flow? I don't know.)
I also think that the dance shown at the end of Endgame was not their first dance.
And thus this was born.
Peggy stands outside the Stork Club. She shouldn't be here.
"Next Saturday, at the Stork Club."
She probably wants to punish herself for not convincing him to land safely.
"Eight o'clock on the dot, and don't you dare be late."
And she misses him.
"We'll have the band play something slow."
Currently, the band was playing a slow song, an insult to injury. Peggy starts to walk away, all dolled up with no one waiting.
"Peggy."
She stops; walking, thinking, breathing, the whole package.
"Peggy…" he sighs.
'It's just a… it can't be him,' Peggy surmises, 'Howard would have told me.'
"Peggy…"
She sighs, turning around. Steve is standing there, dressed in a suit and tie with his hair combed.
He smiles, "Am I late?"
A clock nearby chimes eight.
Peggy sighs, "No… No you're… you're right on time."
Steve holds his hand out. Peggy takes it, waiting for him to disappear. But his grip is gentle. He spins her, and she stops just next to his chest.
"I'll never leave you again," he whispers.
"Don't make promises you can't keep, Captan," Peggy says back.
He chuckles, "This one I can."
He kisses her on the sidewalk in front of the Stork Club, then pulls her inside for a dance lesson.
I know it makes more sense for him to go back to the seventy's, since he's older, and it doesn't erase the events of her tv show, but...
Stork Club. Their date! He wouldn't be late for that, would he?
So, this is obviously au. But I wanted to write it, and it makes me happy.
Stevie got his happy ending. With Peggy.
:D
