Chapter 1 – On the Run
The sounds were deafening as bullets flew through the air. Jason ducked and went into full enforcer mode. His hearing sharpened as well as his other senses and when he heard scuffling sounds, he moved towards them and fired a shot—taking another man down. Ducking behind some crates, he peeked over the top of them as he fired bullet after bullet and his rounds were spent. As he reloaded, someone stepped in front of him and fired a shot and he grimaced as the bullet seared through his body, a feeling he is very familiar with, and then he leaped into action and quickly snapped the new cartridge into place and pulled the trigger—killing the man on the spot. For a moment, he was shocked as he realized his foe's identity and the implication that it held, but he shook it off knowing that he had to get out of there right away or he is a dead man too.
Everything suddenly grew quiet, so he bided his time until he knew it was safe to get up. He struggled to stand as the pain almost took his breath away and then he made his way back to his SUV as fast as he could. Grabbing a rag out of the glove compartment, he pressed it against the wound in his side as he clenched his jaw. Ignoring it, he put on his seatbelt and drove for as long as he could. Eventually, he felt himself starting to drift and he pulled off to the side of the road and parked. His head lopped backward and he fell asleep for a while, only waking due to his shivering. Putting the car into gear, he eased back onto the road and kept going. It's glaringly obvious that he's going to die if he doesn't get help fast, so he pulled into the driveway of the first house he came to, the rain coming down in torrents. As it raged around him, he managed to undo his seatbelt and picked up his gun. He eased his way out of the car and fell up against it trying to catch his breath. The rain is merciless as it pelted his body as he stumbled to the front door and leaned against the frame.
Liz had fallen asleep watching a horror movie, so when she heard a thumping sound against the door, she jumped a mile and then rose to her feet. When the screen door opened, she ran to the door and grabbed her shotgun.
Jason tried the door handle and it was locked."Damn." He rested against the frame again, wondering if he could steady himself enough to pick the lock.
Liz quietly unlocked the door and then jerked it opened in one swift movement and held the gun up to Jason's head. "Don't fucking move, or I'll blow your head off."She stared at him as he peered back at her and she is mesmerized by the most beautiful eyes she has ever seen.
"Help me," he gasped as his gun dropped to the floor and he started to fall forward.
Liz put the shotgun down and caught him and bear as much of his weight as she could. It was a struggle, but she managed to help him get to the couch and sit. "You're soaked." She ran back to the front door to grab his gun and then locked the door and placed his Glock on the counter before running to get some towels. She struggled to get Jason out of his coat so she can get him warmed up.
"I'm shot."
While that is the last thing she expected him to say, she went into action and ran to get her first aid kit and then laid some towels on the couch. First, she removed his boots and then opened his shirt.
Jason watched her as she undid each button taken in by her beauty.
"What's your name?"
"Jason."
"I'm Elizabeth."
He grimaced as she took the rag away and then Liz gasped as she surveyed the determining there is an exit wound, she felt a little better about the situation.
"It went clean through."
She cleaned up the exit wound first and then bandaged it."You think you can stand up for a second?"
He nodded as he groaned, but with her help, he is able to stand. As he leaned on her, she started to undo his belt buckle.
"What are you doing?"
"Your jeans are wet. They need to come off."
She finished getting them off and Jason, now clad only in his boxer shorts, fell to the couch. Even though she is focused on what she is doing, the beauty of his body doesn't escape her.
"Lay down," she commanded.
Once he was settled, she cleaned out the entrance wound and then bandaged it up. To try to avoid infection, she went into the kitchen and grabbed a bottle out of the cabinet.
"I need you to take this."
"No pain pills," Jason said frowning.
"It's not, it's an antibiotic."
"Why do you have that lying around?"
Liz smiled. "I'm a resident at the hospital. You never know when you're going to get sick. I don't have a lot of supplies here, but tomorrow I have the day off and I'll stop at the hospital and get some more. If I go there now, it will look suspicious."
Jason nodded as she covered him with a blanket. "Why are you helping me?"
She studied him for a moment. "I don't know, but please don't give me a reason not to."
"I won't. Thank you."
"Now, get some rest."
She grabbed his pants and threw them into the washer after noting the size of his clothing and then went and changed her pajamas since they have Jason's blood on them. When she came back downstairs, he was asleep. Going into the kitchen, she picked up his wallet and looked at his I.D. "Jason Morgan." She put it down and went into the living room and turned on her laptop and googled him. As she read the various articles about him, she sometimes gasped in disbelief and would glance at his still form. He pretty much looks the same as the pictures, but his hair is much longer now. She continued to read and then she was a little scared when stories of his occupation painted a not so pretty tale. What the hell was he doing in her town and she wondered who was after him? She heard him stir so she checked on him and isn't happy when he feels warm. Liz went into the kitchen and poured a small glass of orange juice and then crumbled up a pain pill and some aspirin into it and then walked over to the couch.
"Jason, wake up," she said shaking him.
He finally looked up at her. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I need you to drink this."
He frowned at her but drank the juice and settled back down. She ran a cold washcloth over his face to cool him down.
"Feels good."
She smirked and ran it over his chiseled chest and then rinsed out the washcloth and did it a sheet, she put it over him as he fell back asleep. He doesn't seem like a cold-blooded killer but a girl can't be too careful. She picked up his gun and flicked on the safety and then put it into a drawer in the kitchen.
Once she had straightened up, she headed back to the computer and shut it down and then grabbed a blanket and pillow from her bedroom before climbing onto the loveseat and getting one more look at Jason, she then closed her eyes and fell asleep.

Jason woke up the next morning and stumbled around until he found the bathroom. It felt like a mac truck had hit him and he is kind of loopy. He remembered the juice she had given him and realized she probably had drugged him and that is why his head was so fuzzy. She had left a washcloth for him and a toothbrush so he cleaned up a bit and then went back to the sofa and covered up. Liz had already changed his front bandage before she left. When she suddenly came barreling through the doorway several minutes later, he jumped.
