It was now Wednesday, November the 23rd. It was a half-day at school today, as well as the last day before Thanksgiving break began.
To mark the occasion, all students had been asked by their homeroom teachers to do a little project that they would present to their fellow classmates. They were to think up three things that they had to be thankful for, and orally present those things to the class.
As soon as Charlie Brown took his seat in his homeroom, he greeted his pals. In Charlie Brown's case, it had actually been a pretty easy task to complete this assignment. He had quite a bit to be thankful for these past few months, and it was in huge part to the beautiful red-haired girl sitting just to his right. He would forever be very grateful for everything she had done for him since the school year began.
After the last of the students had filed in, the homeroom teacher entered. She then proceeded to take roll call. After that was finished, she put her clipboard away and turned eagerly to her pupils.
"Good morning, class," she greeted, to which the students in unison all greeted her back. "As you know, yesterday morning, I had asked you all to think of a few things you had to be thankful for that you would share with the class. I hope you all are ready to do just that."
Throughout the other homerooms, similar routines were underway. In Linus' homeroom, Mary was the first one to be called to speak. Brushing a stray strand of hair away from her face, she came up to the front of the class. She then gave a light clearing of her throat.
"What I am thankful for," she began. "I am thankful for all the beautiful sights produced by Mother Nature. I always enjoy springtime, when everything in the Earth begin to grow. To me, it symbolizes what is actually the next thing I'm thankful for, which is the ability to learn and grow. There's a lot of things that have been done, and can still be done in the world to make it a better place. Finally, the third thing I'm thankful for people who go out of their way to help others in their time of need. If everyone were to become just a little more generous, that would also help the world become a much better place. And that in of itself is another thing to be thankful for. Thank you."
Some of the other students, but especially Linus and the homeroom teacher, gave some applause as Mary made her way back to her desk.
"That was very enjoyable to listen to, Mary. I'm thankful that I got to hear all that," Linus told her, giving her a warm smile.
"I'm happy to hear that," Mary replied as she sat down at her desk, which was diagonally across from Linus'.
A few more students were called, and then it was Linus' turn to go.
"What I am thankful for," he began. "The first and most important thing I'm thankful for is our Lord and Savior. Yes, I believe in the life, death, and resurrection of the One sent by God, and I am not ashamed to admit it. Another thing I am thankful for is the preservation of our world's history. History has always been my favorite subject, and it's a marvelous experience to be able to find out whatever we can about our nation's past. Lastly, I am thankful for my big sister, Lucy. She is by no means perfect, but she is my big sister and I wouldn't trade her away for anything."
Linus then nodded to signify that he was finished.
A gentle applause ensued as Linus made his way back to his seat.
Back over in Charlie Brown's homeroom, Schroeder was now about to take his turn.
"What I am thankful for," he began. "I am thankful for the art that is classical music. I feel it is a really underappreciated art, and the past few centuries had turned out many amazing composers. No one though in my opinion can compare to Ludwig Van Beethoven, whose existence I am also very thankful for. That genius of a man has been touching my heart since I was a baby, and it is my desire to keep the spirit of him, as well as his music, alive for generations to come. The last thing I am thankful for is of course, all those who also work to help prevent classical music from becoming a dying art."
After Schroeder was finished, he went back to his desk. Frieda was the next one to go up, though she did not quite complete the assignment as instructed. Her speech was certainly long enough, but really only one thing was mentioned that she was thankful for: her naturally curly hair.
Next, it was Heather's turn to go.
Said red-haired girl stood up and dusted off the hem of her skirt before walking up front.
"What I am thankful for," she began. "To begin, I will go ahead and say that I, like Schroeder, am thankful for a certain art that I feel is underappreciated. That is the art of dance. Dancing is my favorite thing to do, and ever since I was little, I've spent much of my free time practicing all kinds of different routines. Another thing I'm thankful for is the people in the world who are supportive of one another. In today's world, I believe companionship and support is a vital part of thriving. Lastly, I am thankful for my family. I don't have any siblings, but my parents are my world and I don't know what I'd do without their love and care. I could not live without them." Heather then nodded. "Thank you."
With that, Heather made her way back to her desk.
After the other classmates made their presentations, it was Charlie Brown's turn to go. He slowly made his way to the front of the class. Before starting though, he shot a glance at Heather, who smiled at him in response. He gave a small smile back as he prepared himself.
"What I am thankful for," he began. "The first thing I am thankful for is baseball. Even if I myself have stopped playing due to certain circumstances, I am still in love with the sport. I constantly watch it on TV, and in truth, I'm hoping that perhaps I can find the confidence to maybe get back into it. Speaking of confidence, the next thing I'm thankful for is the people in the world who will not try to bring you down... or make you feel insecure. Even those who show the slightest bit of care and concern are people I am very grateful towards. And this brings me to the last thing I'm thankful for."
He was then silent for a few seconds as he felt some butterflies fluttering in his stomach. Though he wasn't sure if that was from nervousness or something else. Regardless, what he was about to say next... this was something he was very thankful for.
"The last thing I'm thankful for... is a certain somebody who came into my life at the start of the school year. At that time, I was at a very low point in my life, having been in my 'normal' state of insecurity and depression. But this girl has been pulling me out of it with her comforting care and support. She's a really amazing person and I am so thankful to have her in my life."
Charlie Brown then glanced at Heather again. Heather knew clearly that it was her whom Charlie Brown was mentioning. At this point, she had gone red in the face and was now a bit fidgety.
"And those are the three things I am thankful for," Charlie Brown finished.
There were a few students applauding, as well as the homeroom teacher, as Charlie Brown made his way back to his desk.
After he took his seat, he turned to Heather.
"If it wasn't obvious, the person I was talking about was you. I hope that's not a problem," he said to her.
Heather gently shook her head, her face still slightly red, and smiled. "I don't mind at all. I'm really happy to hear that I've made such a positive impact on your life."
Charlie Brown smiled back. "You really have, Heather."
Author's note: So, yeah, since Holiday specials were a big thing in the animated media, I decided to capitalize on that a bit by writing this little interlude chapter. Christmas and New Years will also get some representation in upcoming chapters. Also, Valentines Day will be a big thing as the events of my Valentines Day arc will mark a major milestone in Charlie Brown and Heather's relationship. I'm brimming with eagerness to get to that part of the story.
See you again in the near future with the next chapter, in which by that point, a special, yet obscure character will be coming into the story! Can you guess who it is? She only appeared in one special, but after watching it, I instantly began shipping her and Linus. I support the pair almost as much as I do Charlie Brown and Heather.
