Thanks for your patience at the minute! I promise to get back to a more regular posting schedule soon, but RL is kicking my ass at the minute.
I've also created a new fic: Life is Short. It's a collection of short stories I'll be adding to as and when I write them. Sometimes when I'm in a funk, I write little dabbles to keep the creativity flowing, so I hope you enjoy them!
"The Ferris wheel!"
I shook my head, pleading with her as she grabbed my forearm and dragged me in the direction of the tall, terrifying contraption. I hate heights.
"Come on!" Her voice changed, slightly higher in pitch as she begged, pouting when I dug my heels in and stopped moving. "Please?"
I really didn't want to throw up on our first date, but … when she looked at me like she was doing in that moment, all doe-eyed and so damn pretty that it hurt, I realized I'd give her anything, do anything, just to keep that smile on her face.
Leaning closer, she reached up on her tiptoes to whisper into my ear. "I'll keep you safe, I promise."
How could I ever say no to that?
I inhaled—a stuttered, nervous breath that made her laugh and then bite her lip to hide it—groaned, and gave in. Because I was a man and couldn't resist her.
The line wasn't long, and because she could tell I was nervous, Bella kept her arm hooked in mine, her body leaning into me, and I reveled in it, taking strength from her comfort.
Such a pussy.
"Did you hear that?" I asked, wide eyes settling on hers as the bar was lowered over our laps in the rusty, creaky metal cart.
"Relax," she ordered gently, placing her hand on my thigh. It had the opposite effect. There was no way I could relax with her small hand resting where it was. "What's the worst that could happen?"
I groaned. "You really don't want me to answer that."
Chuckling, she bumped her shoulder to mine, her hand squeezing my thigh gently as the cart stuttered and started to move, first forward and then upward. I swallowed hard and let my head fall back, screwing my eyes closed. I didn't want to look down or upward. With my eyes shut, I could pretend we were still on the ground, sitting on a bench, with nothing but the sea breeze whipping our hair.
It was impossible.
Bella's oohs and ahhs tore me apart from the inside. I wanted to see what made her so animated, but I couldn't bear to.
"Edward." Her whisper caught my attention; her breath warm and close, ghosting my ear. I hummed and rolled my head to the side, keeping my eyes closed. "You're okay."
"I'll believe that when we're both back on solid ground." My voice was tight.
"But," she started, her hand working a little higher on my thigh, just enough to almost make me open my eyes. "Think of everything you're missing."
"I'll take your word for it." Her hand was much higher now, and my whole body froze. I could feel how close she was, her body heat against the cold breeze, shielding me on one side; her breath against my face, tantalizing and tempting; and her hand …
"If you don't look, you won't see." Her words sounded as though there was a double meaning, but I couldn't concentrate on anything but her and the fact that we were suspended fifty feet in the air, in a steel cart that was groaning and creaking under the pressure and weight of itself.
"I don't want to see," I choked out.
Her breath fanned my face when she laughed lightly. "I'll make it worth your while." Her voice, its seductiveness, the husky tone … I opened my eyes and looked right at her, watching her smile grow as I did. "I promise," she finished, leaning forward and capturing my lips with her own. The kiss was quick, not nearly deep enough, but I didn't get a chance to argue, before she reached up and pulled her jacket open. My eyes dipped instantly, watching her movements as she took one of my hands and guided it to her torso, under her t-shirt. She hissed when my cold hand touched her warm skin and instinctively I attempted to move it away, but she shook her head and kept her hand on mine, guiding my movements upward.
Her skin was so hot, so soft. I looked up, our gazes locking. Her deep brown eyes swirled like chocolate, with all the indulgence it offered; her lips slightly parted as my hand worked higher; her breathing deep, hitching when my hand closed over one of her breasts.
From there, I brushed my fingers over the soft flesh above the cup of her bra, and her hand fell away, stroking my forearm as her touch descended. All I could see was her, all I wanted to see was her.
Leaning forward, she captured my mouth with hers once more, and suddenly, I didn't feel like I was about to fall to my death; I felt alive, warm, and safe.
She whimpered when my touch deepened, a little more pressure to her breast, and my whole body shuddered.
"Edward?" Her voice was low, barely heard above the noise of the carnival below us and the wind around us. I hummed into her mouth, kissing her once more. "Take me home," she said, and with one sentence, she rendered me immobile and mute, so much implied in so little words. "I need you."
