Chapter 2
Serena stormed out of the room. Noah sat with Olivia, while Sabrina went to see her daughter, "You can't do this. You're not a kid anymore Serena. You're 25 and we will continue to be her acting parents, but we can't lie to her. She should know the truth."
Serena stood up and gripped the dresser in her old bedroom. "You made me have her. I was so glad to move out of here. I was so glad not to see her everyday. A constant reminder of my fuck up thrown in my face everyday." Sabrina was stunned, "We don't agree with abortion. You made the choice to keep her with us. Adoption was an option, that I believe your father and I tried to get you to do." Sabrina put her arm around her daughter, "All I can say is thank you for not giving her up, because we love her. She's an amazing kid and I'm sorry all you see is a mistake, but she's not. Please don't ever tell her that."
Sabrina left and joined her husband. Olivia was only 10, so the details were very vague. Serena listened around the corner thinking she would hear the worse. "Serena had you young, so we stepped in to help her. It was easier if we took you like ours." Noah and Sabrina both held Olivia in their arms, "Was she bad?" Noah laughed, "No, she was a teenager who made some mistakes along the way, but look at her now."
Sabrina brushed her brown hair back, "We know you don't exactly have some of our features, but you remind me of her. You and her are both smart, outgoing, determined, and loving." Olivia looked up, "Does she know who my dad is?" Sabrina said no and was hoping Olivia wouldn't ask anymore at that moment. "Does she love me?"
Serena closed her eyes, she did love her and deep down she didn't want an abortion or adoption. She wanted to make sure she was ok and she knew her parents would do that. Despite the trauma, Olivia was a part of her. "Of course I love you. I made a mistake Olivia and that's why you're here." Noah and Sabrina held their breath, because they weren't sure where this was going. "But know this, you aren't a mistake. They are your parents, we decided that a long time ago."
With the truth out, Serena spent a little more time with Olivia. She was still like an older sister. When school got out for summer, they spent more time together. Serena even asked her parents to let Olivia stay with her at her apartment. As long as they were having fun, their relationship was ok.
Everything was ok and everyone was adjusting to their new roles. When the school year started Noah and Sabrina allowed Serena to take more of the front seat with Olivia. She went to parent teacher conferences, dropped her off, and even picked her up sometimes. Even though Olivia was a good kid, she wasn't perfect, so when she got in trouble at school, Serena was called.
Sabrina watched as Serena dealt with her behavior. "Did the teacher ask you to stop talking and listen to the lesson?" Olivia frowned, "Yeah." Serena thought this looked easier when her mom did it. "Yeah? Is that the way you answer an adult?"
Olivia folded her arms, "Olivia, I don't like your behavior that I was called for and I certainly don't like it now. When your teacher asked you to stop talking and pay attention, that didn't mean passing notes to your friends." Olivia shrugged, "I don't care and I don't have to listen to you."
Sabrina was shocked, because this wasn't Olivia. Serena immediately said, "Oh yes you do. You will obey me." Sabrina knew it was getting out of hand and it all happened too fast to stop it. Serena spun Olivia around and spanked her butt. "You can't spank me!" Olivia went running to her room.
Sabrina and Noah did spank when necessary and if Olivia had pulled that with them, she would have gotten one, but this wasn't them. She walked to Serena, "Mom, she was totally out of line." Sabrina agreed, "I know, but…" Serena rolled her eyes, "I know, I'm just her sister. Bye mom, deal with your child." Olivia got a spanking alright and when Sabrina was done, she probably wished she let Serena do it.
Things were hot and cold and Serena thought it was best to move on. She went to see one person, "Hi Elizabeth!" Elizabeth was happy to see her best friend. "Come in. How long has it been?" Serena smiled gently, "Hey Don!" Serena told Elizabeth she was moving to Atlanta. "I tried, but I'm too late. I'm not her mom and I can't stay and play sister. It hurts too much."
Elizabeth confided in her best friend, "We tried to get pregnant. I can't have kids. It's taken a toll on us, but I think we will make it." Serena gave her a phone number, "Look after family for me. I won't be back." She hugged her best friend and said goodbye. Elizabeth did just that. She spent more time visiting her parents and Olivia.
Olivia grew up without so much as a call from Serena. She didn't call or visit, not even when Olivia lost her mom to cancer and her dad to a heart attack. She was in the middle of her junior year when her mom got sick.
She died before she could graduate. To make matters worse, her dad died a month later. "Elizabeth, I don't want to hear it. It's one thing to never call me, but her own mom and dad die within a month of each other and she's a no show."
Elizabeth had taken an interest in Olivia. She was going to be a lawyer like Elizabeth. She even met her best friend Alexandra Cabot and her boyfriend Trevor Langan in college because they shared the same pre-law major. They sat with her after the funeral, "Thanks guys for being here."
Elizabeth sat with them. She went over all the financials and paperwork. "So your account is set up and you're in really good shape, plus the condo is yours and it's new. They put you in a very nice spot selling the old place and buying this new one. To be completely honest, with life insurance, you really don't have to work." Olivia rolled her eyes, "I'd rather have my parents."
Trevor got up to sit with her, "Have you talked to her?" Elizabeth shook her head, "I left messages when your mom died, but her number is disconnected now." Olivia rolled her eyes, "Great! I hate her." She looked at Elizabeth who had tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry. I know she's your best friend."
She smiled, "It's not that, we haven't been best friends in a long time." Elizabeth was about to turn Olivia's life upside down. When Sabrina realized she was going to die, she asked Elizabeth to make sure everything was in place for Olivia. She also asked her to tell Olivia the truth, but only after her dad died. Elizabeth had no idea it would be so soon. "Olivia, what did your parents tell you about your mom?" Olivia laughed, "You mean Serena, she's not my mom." Olivia knew Elizabeth didn't deserve the attitude. Olivia explained what happened when she was 10.
Elizabeth held her breath, "That's some of it, but there's more." Olivia looked at Elizabeth, "What didn't they tell me? Come on Elizabeth, they're both gone, she's nowhere." Elizabeth told Olivia everything. "Olivia, are you ok?" Tears fell from her eyes, "I was so hard on her. I thought she was just a spoiled brat that pushed me off on someone else. No wonder she could never look at me."
Elizabeth tried to help, "She loves you, but she doesn't know how to handle it." Olivia went on with her life and she had no idea where Serena Benson was or what she was doing. After the news, she looked for her. Elizabeth, Alex, and Trevor helped. "I don't know what I'm looking for, maybe closure." Serena did move to Atlanta and she taught at a small college, but had since kinda disappeared.
The biggest shock came when she graduated. Olivia, Alex, and Trevor applied to law school, but Olivia changed her mind, "I'm going to be a cop." Alex and Trevor were shocked, but only supported her decision. Alex smiled, "You fight one side, I'll fight the other." Trevor kissed her, "Go for it baby!"
Elizabeth was outraged. "No you're not." Olivia smirked, "Yes I am. Don is helping me." Donald Cragen was a Lieutenant now and working on Captain. He was also in charge of the unit she wanted. Since finding out Serena was raped, she wanted this. It was her way of healing. As hard as it must have been on Serena, Olivia had to come to the terms that she product of rape.
