Chapter 12
On Tuesday night, they had the first family dinner and game night. Amanda insisted on tacos. "We have to, it's Taco Tuesday." They invited Don and Elizabeth, along with Fin and Alex. They enjoyed dinner and cleaned up before playing. Amanda came out clean in her pjs in case it got late. Trevor put the game on the table, "Speak out?"
Trevor explained they had to put in a mouthpiece that wouldn't allow them to shut their mouth. "Then you have to read the card and we guess." Amanda put in her mouthpiece and all they heard was nonsense and then the spit poured out. Olivia shook her head, "Ok, we give up. What were you saying, "I want to go home to my hamster."
Everyone took a turn and they all laughed until all the cards were gone. Trevor pulled Amanda in his lap and whispered into her. Amanda popped in her mouthpiece, "hae ang ahhhe rrrrr Hah Hah a aaeee." Everyone looked at her and watched spit fall out of her mouth. Olivia grabbed a paper towel and took the mouthpiece. "You're going to need new pjs." Elizabeth asked, "It wasn't a card. What were you saying?" Amanda smiled, "Mommy and daddy are having a baby!"
Trevor laughed and everyone looked at Olivia, "Christmas cards are going out and we wanted the family to know first. It's due in June." They congratulated her and everyone said goodnight.
The next week they both took off since Olivia had her appointment with Dr. Shields. They had breakfast and did some shopping before, "Dang it!" Trevor walked over and looked at the price, "What's wrong? It's on sale." Olivia told him, "Luce never gave me her Christmas list." Lucy had been weird over the last week. She told Olivia she was good going to therapy alone. Olivia was trying to give her space, but she wasn't sure.
Dr. Shields was excited to hear about an additional sister, but not so much about Olivia's blood pressure. "You've got to get a handle on it or I'm going to pull you out of work." Olivia promised and they headed home. "Lucy, you're home. Therapy was quick today huh. Is it going good?" Lucy smiled, "Yeah, it's great." Olivia was watching Lucy's eyes and movements. She was a detective and she knew she was lying. She remembered what Dr. Shields told her, "Where's your Christmas list."
Lucy sat at the bar, "I don't really need anything, plus I already live here and don't pay anything." Olivia laughed, "Lucy, you're a kid, you're not supposed to pay for anything. That's for me and Trevor to worry about." Lucy smiled, "I'm not your kid though. I'm an adult." Olivia started thinking, "Well, at 18 I was still a kid and I wasn't my grandparents kid but they took me on anyway."
Lucy laughed. "Luce, would you like to try and go back to school? And don't you dare say one thing about money." Lucy wanted to but she wasn't sure. "Maybe it would be good for me." Finally, it was something, "Well look up classes and hey I'm not saying take on a whole load, but do something that makes you happy. And I still need your list."
Olivia kissed her head. "Liv?" Olivia stopped, "Yeah Luce?" Lucy needed to tell her. She knew Olivia would help her, "Is there anything I could ever do that would make you not love me?" Olivia came back and looked her in the eyes. "No." She walked away but turned back, "Luce, I'm a cop and your sister and I know you're hiding something. I'm also not going to push you, but I'll be right here. Whatever you need to say, I won't stop loving you."
That night in bed she talked to Trevor about adopting Lucy. "It's more than possible. It's probably best actually. If anything happened to us, Lucy should get a third of everything. It will also let us provide health insurance when her mom cuts her off." Trevor thought, "Actually Liv, we need a will.
Olivia sighed, "How are you okay with everything so easily?" He kissed her, "You know I don't have a family. I love them too." They discussed adoption being one of her gifts. "How about MacBook Pro and a new phone? What 18 year old would turn that down?" Olivia smiled, "Fine, I'll let you handle Lucy and I'll deal with Amanda."
The next day Olivia was at work and her cellphone rang, "Dr. Hanover, is everything ok?" Olivia waited, "I'm not supposed to call you and this goes against everything I believe in when it comes to my patients…" Olivia stopped her, "She's not coming to therapy right?" Dr. Hanover finally took a breath, "I'm cop and I'm already on to her. I will speak to her and you never called me."
Olivia was about to head out when she got a call from Amanda's school, "Hi! Amanda is still here at school for pick up." She looked at her phone, but didn't see a message from Lucy. Cragen came out of his office, "Liv, I need you now!" Everything was coming down at once. "Odafin Tutuola is coming to pick her up. She asked Fin to go, "Hey no junk food."
She went into Cragen's office. "Captain, I need to call Lucy. She didn't pick up Amanda. Can this wait?" He looked at her, "She didn't pick her up because she's being held at 7th precinct." Olivia jumped in the car, apparently she went to her mother's place and all hell broke loose. When the cops came and they cuffed her, she dropped Olivia's name and they called Cragen. He immediately told them what was going on and they just had her waiting.
"Luce!" Lucy grabbed her, "Liv, I'm sorry." Olivia calmed her, "Hey, what happened?" Lucy shook her head, "Can we go home?" Olivia talked to Trevor while Lucy was in the shower. Lucy was quiet at dinner and didn't say anything other than, she was heading to bed.
"Thanks Captain." She looked at Trevor, "I'm taking off tomorrow to be with her, somethings going on and she needs my full attention. Will you take Amanda in the morning?" Trevor kissed her goodnight, "Of course baby." Around 2 AM, Trevor heard moaning. He looked over at Olivia, but she was asleep, pregnancy was really wiping her out.
He got up and walked down the hall. He heard it coming from Amanda's room and thought it must be a nightmare. When he opened the door, he saw Lucy on the floor beside Amanda's bed, she was moaning and thrashing around. He knelt down and whispered, "Hey shhhhhh. It's ok." Lucy's eyes popped open and her breathing was rapid, "It's ok. It's just me. Come on before we wake her up."
They left and Trevor made her tea in the kitchen. "So, do you want to tell me what's going on and why you're asleep on Amanda's floor?" Lucy sipped the tea, "This is good." Trevor shook his head, "It will help you sleep." Lucy hung her head, "I stopped going to therapy and my nightmares have been worse. I woke Amanda up last week and she told me to sleep with her when I was scared." Lucy smiled, "I'm on the floor because she's wild in bed."
Trevor took her cup, "Come on." They headed to the bedroom, "Please don't wake Liv. She's going to kill me when she finds out I'm skipping therapy and lying." Trevor held the door, "I'm not going to her and she's not going to kill you. She loves you Luce, we all do." He opened the door. "Sleep here." Trevor pointed to the couch. "I'll get you some cover and a pillow." Lucy stood there and whispered, "Trevor this is weird. I'm 18, not 8. I can't sleep in here with y'all." Trevor used his stern parent voice, "Lay down and go to sleep. Now!" Lucy laid on the couch and closed her eyes.
Olivia rolled over and kissed Trevor. "Good morning." She reached into his boxers, "Babe, since when do you wear joggers to bed?" Trevor smiled, "Since I let an 18 year old sleep on our couch last night." He pointed to Lucy. Olivia closed her eyes, "I'm so sorry babe." Trevor smiled, "Well, I'm up, in more ways than one."
Trevor took a cold shower, while Olivia was updated, used the bathroom, and brushed her teeth. "You need to toughen up a little, stop being nice. It worked last night for me. She's worried about your reaction though." When she came out Lucy was still asleep, so she woke up Amanda. "Hey, get up and get ready. Daddy's taking you to school and breakfast at the cafe." Amanda jumped up, "Mommy, where is Lucy?" Olivia kissed her, "Still asleep, so be quiet."
Olivia went back to lay down. She saw Lucy sit up, "Good morning. Come lay with me." Lucy went over to the bed, "It's weird enough that I slept on your couch, I don't think I should lay down." Olivia giggled, "Really why? I'm your sister. Why didn't you tell me about the nightmares and sleeping on the floor?" Lucy was nervous, "I knew you would do this, let me sleep in here or even sleep with me. I'm not 8 or Amanda, I know you need privacy."
Olivia looked at her, "Yeah, we had privacy. That's how I got this. Get in bed and lay with me or you can start talking and tell me the truth!" Lucy frowned, "I'll lay down." Trevor came out dressed. "I promised her breakfast at the cafe." Trevor kissed her, "No problem. I bet she's excited now. See you tonight." Amanda came barreling in, "Bye Lucy! Bye mommy!" They laid there in silence and Lucy went back to sleep.
Once she was asleep, Olivia got up, showered, and made breakfast. "You left me." Olivia put a plate down for her, "I could see in your eyes you were tired. Eat, because we need to talk." After eating and cleaning, "Ok no more stalling. Talk now!" Olivia held her hand, "Remember there is nothing you can do or say, that will make me stop loving you."
Lucy sighed, "I lied to you. I haven't been going to therapy. I went to my mom's to get my computer and some clothes. I wanted to look up classes. Everything was gone. She blamed me and said Brian was raped in prison. Did you know?" Olivia looked at her, "I didn't, but I can imagine. Luce, he was a dirty undercover cop, who sent people away for crimes he committed and blamed them. He'll be lucky to make it through his sentence. That's not your fault."
Lucy shook her head, "I don't want to ever be around her. She let him do it." Olivia shut her eyes. "Liv, I went to the hospital because he beat me. I was dealing with the rape. He said he would get to you and I believed him." Olivia hugged her, "I won't let anyone hurt you again." Lucy started crying, "Liv, I'm pregnant."
