Subaru's eyes would shoot open as he would wake up, luckily fairly quickly as the effect of the tranquilizer wore off. He didn't get as high of a dosage as the man, so he woke up a good five minutes earlier.

His mind immediately began racing in a panic, as he would struggle to get up though doing so successfully after a few attempts. Looking around, he saw nobody… No Emilia, no Beatrice, no Patrasche… He was alone.

"Damn it!"

Immediately Subaru was smacked with horrible thoughts of them being shot and killed, or even kidnapped… Those mercenaries he saw were definitely not good people, so of course, he immediately assumed the worst. He needed to search for them! Subaru wouldn't be able to live with himself if they were hurt or died, and he had zero clue if he still possessed Return by Death.

That's when the realization sunk in. He might not even have Return by Death anymore. His primary and only tool.

'Shit… I might not have Return by Death. I can't let them down!'

Subaru said as he made the pledge to save them all without dying. He needed help also, as now he was in a territory that was familiar yet alien to him… There was tech, yet he was in a jungle, possibly with dinosaurs prowling around. Still, he couldn't be sure if there were more than that one blue-striped one he saw.

'Maybe I could go to that other guy I saw get shot? No... Now that I think about it, I probably shouldn't. I can't waste time looking for someone else… Emilia-tan and Beako are my primary objective after all. There is not a minute to lose!'

With his goals set in mind, Subaru would be off, ready to save them all! He would go walk towards where he saw Patrasche get taken, which was conveniently only a few yards from where he was. There were only a few seconds of running before he was tranquilized after all. There he would find tire tracks, most likely from the car that took Patrasche, along with Emilia and Beatrice most likely.

He'd start down the path the tires left, knowing his best bet was to follow wherever the mercenaries left. Still, Subaru didn't know how far he was walking or how long he's been out, so he needed to do this fast! Subaru took a brisk pace, ready for whatever the world would throw at him!

Minutes would pass… Anxious minutes. With every minute he was walking more and more fear and worry would spread across his mind. What if he was too late? What if they were already dead? What if he never saw Emilia and Beako again?

'No! I can't let these thoughts plague my mind… A healthy mind is a healthy body, and a healthy body means I can save them faster!'

He shoved those bad thoughts away, as he would continue walking. Subaru himself didn't know how much time had passed so far, it honestly felt like hours, but in reality, it was only five minutes… And then he would see it. The tree line! He was so close to escaping this damned jungle and finding his friends. He was feeling a familiar emotion. Hope. One of his most loved ones… His thoughts of hope masked something vitally important though. The sound of leaves crunching and branches shaking. Something was following him…

He would start sprinting towards the tree line, ready to clock out of here. He was so close to the end of this jungle, and to saving them! Nothing could possibly stop him now! Or at least that's what he thought, until a massive crack sound would smack his eardrums as a boom would occur following the crack. He quickly covered his ears at the sounds.

'Holy shit, that was loud!'

He hasn't heard such a noise before, up until now…

'What the hell was tha-'

Mid-thought a massive shockwave would smack into him, throwing him off balance. He fell to the ground, his head smacking into a rock on the ground. Blood immediately started trickling out of the newly formed gash left on the right side of his head, as he would fade out of consciousness for a few seconds before quickly regaining it. Still, Subaru felt disoriented. He needed to take a breather, to calm the heck down and figure out what just happened.

"What was… What was that?"

He muttered to himself, as he would struggle to push himself up… Before hearing something from the bushes. Subaru knew the dangers of a jungle, let alone one that could have a few dinosaurs, so he immediately went into fight or flight mode. He grabbed a nearby branch that had fallen in the shockwave, it being about as thick as his own, as he would hold it preparing to use it as a weapon if need be.

Out of the bushes, a creature jumped out, one with two frills on its head and that stood on two legs. A dinosaur. It was about the size of a medium dog, nothing threatening. What's more, is it let out a hooting sound. This dinosaur didn't seem threatening at all!

Subaru would immediately calm down, realizing that this creature probably was no threat to him. He tilted his head curiously as he tried to figure out what this dinosaur was, admittedly getting distracted from finding Emilia and Beako. As he tilted his head, the dinosaur also did the same, mimicking him.

"Uh… You're a… Dilophosaurus! Yeah, a dilo. I read about you guys in books! You seemed a lot bigger in them."

Like every child, Subaru at one point went through a phase where he was interested in dinosaurs, so he had a bit of brief knowledge on these beasts at this point. He was about to do something quite possibly idiotic, but he just had to do it.

He reached out his hand towards the dilo, believing something the smaller animal to be harmless to him. If he had only been paying attention, he would have known this dinosaur had been stalking him for some minutes at this point. Subaru Natsuki was the prey item.

The dilophosaurus took Subaru reaching out his arm as a threat and shot open its frill. It was quite the beautiful frill really, being primarily yellow with rings and stripes of a vibrant red. Though as most know, the most beautiful things in nature are the most dangerous. The dilophosaurus shot a black goo-like substance out its mouth, and with its target being so close it hit Subaru directly in the eyes.

Subaru recoiled back, as he fell down to the ground and started clawing at his eyes. This 'goo' on his eyes started burning like hell as if it were trying to melt his eyes and face off. Suddenly the realization would hit Subaru. This was acid, or more likely venom. This dinosaur shot venom at his eyes, and it was taking the course. He immediately started to panic as he continued trying to claw this venom off his face in a hurry, inadvertently clawing a few chunks of skin with flesh off, causing blood to start flowing down his face with the marks of struggle visible.

The Dilophosaurus had Subaru where it wanted him. The dinosaur pounced on him, pinning him down by standing on his chance. Subaru grabbed the branch again and started swinging it like a maniac at the dilophosaurus, though of course, he couldn't see at all so his accuracy wasn't the best. All the swings missed, with the dilophosaurus grabbing the branch mid-swing with its powerful jaws and tossing it to the side.

Subaru began swinging his fists at it, trying to punch it away. He was getting damn desperate. If he died now… He had no clue if he would come back again.

'I- I can't fail! I can't let them down!'

His fists started swinging harder at the dilophosaurus as it had to start moving its head away to not get hit. Still, this wasn't enough. Compared to a wild animal, let alone a dinosaur, Subaru was nothing. Just a nice hunk of food that didn't know where it was or how to fight by its tooth and nail. The dilophosaurus would strike at his waving fists, grabbing one of them with its tooth-filled jaws.

Subaru started screaming in pain as he started punching the dilophosaurus in the side of the head with his free hand. The dilo hissed from the pain, as it would let go, though not before taking three of his fingers. He immediately grabbed his wounded hand with his free hand, as he yelled bloody murder. Tears streamed down his face as the pain of getting his fingers ripped off hit him like a dump truck. It didn't help that the only other time he's been eaten was by The Great Rabbit. He switched from fight mode, going into flight as he flipped over and tried crawling away. His punches did barely anything, so he knew his best chance was to escape… Though he didn't get far. He was blinded still, with three missing fingers, and still being hunted. His pain alone nearly prevented him from running. He wanted to just go back to the mansion… He was so happy there, being able to become Emilia's knight, while his friends stood by his side. Mother Nature had other plans though.

The dilophosaurus jumped on his back as its claws would dig into his flesh, right through his signature tracksuit. He would scream out in pain as violently thrashed around, trying to grab onto something to pull away. There was nothing.

The dilophosaurus leaned down, wrapping its jaws around Subaru's skull. The teeth dug into him like steak knives, as his PTSD from The Great Rabbit would be triggered. He didn't want to be eaten again, he didn't want to be put through such pain.

"PLEASE! NO NO N-" *crunch*

His head was crunched as if it were a cracker as the dilo bit down hard aided by the sheer power of its jaws, with bone shards, blood, and brain matter spilling out everywhere. The dilophosaurus lifted its head as flesh would be hanging from its teeth and jaws. Another successful kill on its end. It began tearing into his flesh, eating the now dead Subaru.

Subaru Natsuki was dead, killed by his naivety. A brutal death, and the first of many.

Hey y'all! This is my first time writing a death scene, so tell me what you think in the review section. Tell me anything you'd like to see actually. Deaths, attacks, plots, and all of that, or just what you thought about the chapter. I love reading your guy's reviews!

Another chapter detailing what happened to Emilia and Beatrice will be out in a day or two, so be on the lookout for that.
