A/N - Hey guys, so here I am with the start of a new story after an idea started to form in my mind. My other story (Love will Keep us Together) will be finished soon but if you follow that, you'll know I asked you guys if you had any ideas for a new story I could do. I loved your comments and PM's with suggestions and because of some of them, an outline for a story started to form. So basically, this is a what happened next when the If/Then episode finished in season 8. Basically, its an alternate universe fic where Callie is head of cardio and married to Owen with 3 kids and Arizona is...well she's still hot aswell as a bad ass peds surgeon :)

Let me know what you think of the concept so far...should I continue? As always, thanks for reading.

Chapter 1

"So, what happened to your hand?"

As the light turned green, Owen softly put his foot on the accelerator, driving his family towards their home before he took a side ways glance at his wife. "Oh, it was nothing. Just some junkie kicking up a fuss in the OR…" he lied and not for the first time that day.

Callie wasn't fooled by her husbands words, or his attempt at a reassuring smile. She'd heard a couple of nurses whispering about how he'd punched a window while arguing with Cristina Yang earlier in the day. With the kids sitting quietly in the car behind them, she chose not to push the matter. Not that she would have pushed it anyway. What would be the point? For the last few months, since he'd come back from his final tour around Iraq, he'd been different.

She knew he was struggling mentally with what he'd gone through overseas and she'd tried to get him to open up on many occasions, but he always refused to discuss that part of his life with her. So, she chose not to push. Especially not since she'd been ripped from her sleep 3 months ago, finding Owen straddling her hips with his hands wrapped around her neck. She was almost certain if she hadn't been able to reach the lamp and hit him over the head, he would have actually killed her.

He'd been dreaming ofcourse. When he'd returned to conciousness, he'd been absolutely devastated and had made the decision to sleep on the sofa until he could get help.

Callie hadn't argued. There's no way she wanted to be in a situation like that again. Her main concern had been for the kids. For the 2 months that followed his episode, they both came to the decision that he shouldn't be alone with their kids, at least for the foreseeable future. He'd also started seeing a counsellor. Although reluctant at first, he eventually realised that his meetings with Dr Gallagher were indeed helping him. That didn't mean he was fully recovered however. Today's outburst had proven that.

A month ago, he had moved back into their bedroom and started trusting himself to be alone more with their children. The thing was, his relationship with his wife was at an all time low. He was still feeling guilty for almost killing her and she in turn felt too much apprehension being around him. Even that innocent peck on the cheek she'd received from him at the hospital earlier had felt awkward. Things just felt forced between them.

Thing was, that wasn't a new revelation.

When Owen had been away touring, Callie had gotten so used to him not being there. She had a routine and if she was honest with herself, she preferred it when he wasn't around. She was happier. In a way, she felt like she didn't have to fake being the dutiful wife. But, he was her husband and it was just taking some time to adjust to the new normal. Not to mention having to deal with Owen's PTSD. Things would get better. At least, that's what she'd been telling herself for a long time now.

A couple of hours after arriving home, having worked as a team to feed, bathe and put Allegra, Thomas and Samson to bed, Callie was sat at the dining table going over some paperwork from the hospital while Owen was sat on the sofa watching ESPN. This was how most of their evenings were spent. Separate. They didn't sit together as a couple and watch a movie or enjoy a drink after a long day at work. The only time they really shared time together was when the kids were around or they were in bed. Sex had also been few and far between for a long time. Even when they did it, it felt almost mechanical. The Latina hadn't felt real passionate pleasure in a very long time. Which was a real shame as she had always been a very sexual person.

Hearing the TV shut off, she glanced over her shoulder, finding Owen getting up from the sofa. He padded towards her, offering a smile that never met his eyes.

"I'm gona head up" he said, bending down to leave a kiss on her cheek.

Nothing. She felt nothing. Despite that, she smiled back at her husband as he began to back away towards the stairs. "OK. I'm probably gona stay down a little longer."

"No problem. Night Cal."

"Yea, night" she replied, picking up her glass of wine and taking in a mouthful. As he disappeared upstairs, she let out a sigh of relief. She loved it when he went to bed and she had some time to herself. Closing the file she'd been looking through, she opened the one beneath it. The artificial lung had proven to be a complete success for Riley. So much so infact, they'd taken him off the transplant list. She smiled as her thoughts moved from the little boy to the doctor she had worked alongside for the first time since Dr Robbins had transferred to Seattle Grace four months earlier.

It was weird to believe but the hug she'd received from the blonde earlier that day had made her feel something she hadn't felt in a long time. Excitement. She'd felt a rush of adrenaline course through her veins at that very simple and innocent act. Maybe it was just the excitement from the successful case, she'd told herself. Yea, that had to be it. She'd been taking a back seat lately, allowing Yang to do more for herself so hadn't felt that buzz of saving a kids life in a long time.

Yea, that definitely had to be it.

It couldn't be that she had felt a connection with the other doctor. When their bodies had pressed together or when they'd shaken hands right before she'd boldly asked the blonde out for a drink some time to celebrate their success. Truth was, although they hadn't really spoken to eachother much since Arizona's arrival, that didn't mean she hadn't noticed the blonde. The day she had seen her for the first time, walking across the catwalk alongside Ellis Grey, she'd literally stopped in her tracks and watched the strikingly beautiful woman walk towards her. Before the blonde had passed, their eyes had met and Arizona had sent her a little wink and grin.

That was the first time the blonde had made her heart flutter. It had happened again the following day when they'd bumped in to one another, literally at the coffee cart. Callie's heart had seemed to do somersaults when Arizona had grasped her arm gently. Then the most angelic laugh had left the blondes mouth, leaving Callie stood there, completely enthralled by her. They'd barely had a chance to say a few words to each other when Owen had come over to say Thomas was crying for her down in the daycare.

Their paths didn't really cross again, apart from in a morning briefing with the chief, until around a month later. It was the day after Owen's episode. The strong hold he'd had on her neck had caused some bruising which she'd managed, for the most part to conceal with make up and a silk scarf. When getting changed later that night in the locker rooms, Arizona had walked in just after she'd removed the scarf and had instantly seen the marks. The blonde had ofcourse been really concerned and regretfully, having been completely stressed out by what Owen was putting them through, Callie had lashed out verbally. She'd been embarrassed and hadn't wanted to make a big deal out of it but Arizona had been persistent in wanting to help her. She didn't know the woman well enough to disclose her personal life with her yet. Especially not something as sensitive as her husbands PTSD. That was the last time they'd really had anything to do with eachother. Until today.

The attraction she'd felt for the blonde had reared its head again the second their bodies had come into contact. This wasn't the first time she'd felt a strong attraction for a woman. Years earlier, when she was in her early 20's, she and her childhood best friend had started a secret affair. Erica had had a girlfriend at the time back in Miami, but after a night out on the drink, they had kissed and ended up going back to Callie's lodgings while she was at medical school.

For the next few months they'd met up several more times. She'd been with men before that ofcourse and the sex had always been Ok but being with a woman, with Erica had felt different. It seemed to excite her more. The female body excited her in ways the male body didn't.

That all ended however when her parents had found out about them, in the most horrifying of ways. Being the extremely religious people they were, they'd forbidden her to continue the affair, even though she was in her 20's. Being close to her parents, she'd gotten shit scared of losing them so had ended things with Erica and never looked back. No matter how much it had hurt at the time.

From then on she concentrated on her medical degree, all the while sleeping with men. Lots and lots of men to try and eradicate the feelings she felt in her heart. It had been the safer option for her if she didn't want to risk losing her family.

Owen had been the safe option. Her parents loved him from the moment she introduced them. He was a good man, a good doctor, a good father and sure, he was kind of a good husband. At least, he had been in the first a year or so.

Was it possible that Arizona had started to loosen the lid on the little box she'd stored her feelings for women in all those years ago? No. That couldn't happen. It was a just a simple crush on an attractive, intelligent fellow doctor. The feelings would pass. They had to. They were work colleagues and dare she say, possible future friends. That's all it was.

That's all it would ever be.

On the other side of town, Arizona was laid in bed, looking up at the ceiling. The sound of gentle snores were being emitted from the woman lying next to her. For the last few hours, she'd almost broken the other woman in her bed. She didn't know what had gotten into her. Sure, she'd always been a good lay but tonight, she had been completely insatiable. She'd made the other woman writhe and cry out in pleasure for almost 3 hours.

Arizona was no stranger to one night stands. Far from it infact. When she'd moved to Seattle a few months earlier and hadn't known anyone, she'd gone out several times a week, bringing a different woman home each time. When she'd gotten settled in her job and made a couple of friends, she didn't go out as much but had still always managed to find someone to scratch that itch for her when she had the time.

She never used to be like this... The love them and leave them type. No, she was like this because of Lauren. The ex that had not only ripped out her heart but had proceeded to stamp all over it in front of everyone they worked with.

She'd met Lauren when they'd both started out as interns back in Boston. Their friendship had gradually turned into something more and as they'd worked their way from interns to residents, their blossoming romance had been the envy of all their colleagues.

That all changed however when almost 3 years into their relationship, the blonde had walked in on Lauren in an on call room with Simon, a fellow resident who just so happened to also be Arizona's bestfriend. What made it even worse was finding out that not only had it been going on for nearly 2 years, but Lauren was 3 months pregnant.
It's safe to say Arizona's world had come crashing down all around her. It had affected her in ways she could never have imagined. She couldn't eat, she couldn't sleep and because of that, her work had began to suffer. She ended up taking a months leave from the hospital and had returned home to her parents, just to get away from the life she had built in Boston.

When she'd returned a month later, she'd found out that Lauren had dropped out of the programme. Apparently she'd decided to keep the baby and had chosen to put a temporary hold on her medical career. Simon had stayed and finished off his residency but he and Arizona never spoke again, unless ofcourse they had needed to work together.

It was because of that, Arizona had vowed she would never open her heart to anyone ever again. From now on, all she wanted was sex and for the last few years, that's the way it had been. She'd been with too many women to count. Women of all shapes, sizes and races. She'd also been with her fair share of so called straight women along with the women that were otherwise attached and just looking for a bi-curious dip in the lesbian pool. Not one of those women had been disappointed and had often wanted to come back for more.

Arizona wasn't that kind of woman though. Not anymore. Not since Lauren. When the position of head of peds became available in Seattle, that's when Arizona had decided she wanted a fresh start away from the state she'd met her ex and her once upon a time bestfriend. Her work in Seattle kept her busy so she didn't miss the lying on the sofa snuggling or the holidaying together or all the other stuff couples do...which is what had started to happen in Boston. Especially when she began to bump into her ex and Simon on a more regular basis with their small child.

The woman in the bed beside her stirred, turning to face her but luckily she was still sleeping. Arizona blinked a couple of times because she could have sworn she'd just pictured her new friend at work in bed with her...again. It wasn't the first time her mind had drifted off with thoughts of Calliope Torres.

From her very first day at Seattle Grace she'd felt an instant attraction to the Latina. I mean, it wasn't hard. Callie was gorgeous. A blind person could surely see the beauty she radiated. She'd been walking across the catwalk with her new Chief when her eyes had locked on to Dr Torres. Ellis Grey had been explaining the ins and outs of the hospital and giving her the tour when her eyes had met with big brown pools watching her every move. She'd winked, clearly recognising that the Latina appeared to be checking her out.

It surprised and slightly disappointed her the next day when she found out Callie was married to a fellow male doctor and had 3 kids. She'd felt sure she'd gotten a vibe. She had felt an instant connection with the Latina. An attraction that went beyond just wanting a quick bunk up with the beautiful woman and because of that, she'd attempted to try and keep her distance from her. She couldn't allow herself to fall for someone again, not when she'd worked so hard over the last few years to build up a resistance.

Her avoidance from Callie Torres lasted almost a walking in on the Latina getting changed one evening, aside from being momentarily transfixed on her almost naked torso, she'd noticed the bruising around the other woman's neck. She'd tried to offer her support but Callie had eventually snapped at her, causing the blonde to back off in surrender. She didn't try again. Callie and her life were none of her business. The woman had a family and obviously didn't need or want her support.

But then...why did she still feel like she was getting a vibe from the Latina? No, it didn't matter. Nothing would happen between them. She just had a crush which would blow over the more she got to know Dr Torres. At least, that's what she told herself anytime the cardio doctor walked into a room.

She closed her eyes, thinking of the potential new friendship she could have with the Latina after they'd worked together for the first time. Callie's face continued to invaded her mind, as it so often did but even more so today after they'd spent time together and Callie had invited her out for celebratory drinks sometime.

Her stomach started to flutter with excitement, moving lower until her clit began to tighten. Instinctively, her right hand moved beneath the thin duvet, dipping between her legs. She'd remained wet from the previous few hours of sex with the woman beside her. She spread her legs wider, giving herself better access to the fire building within. She breathed in deeply, expelling it silently as her expert fingers began circling her clit. She slipped her eyes closed again, getting lost in a tirade of pleasure.

Her mouth dropped open allowing her to quietly suck in much needed air while her hand worked quicker now, frantically massaging at the top of her slit. Her body tensed and twitched as she brought herself ever closer to the peak of climax.

The woman beside her wasn't even a fleeting thought as her mind pictured a different woman in bed with her. She imagined Calliope Torres between her legs, licking and sucking at her clit, pushing her over the edge. Blue eyes flew open as her orgasm arrived like a freight train. She couldn't keep herself from audibly groaning as wave after wave of pleasure rolled through her body. She shuddered for several moments, her body arching from the bed and skin glistening with sweat from her efforts. Eventually she allowed herself to relax. She lay there panting as she looked up at the ceiling, revelling in how intense her self inflicted climax had been.

Masturbation wasn't something she did very often. She didn't need to. Anytime she felt the urge, she'd go to a bar, pick a pretty woman and take her home. Sometimes at work, she'd chat up a pretty nurse and end up taking her to an on call room during those long, hard hours at work.

Even now, she had a woman in her bed who had scratched that itch several times earlier but not one of those previous orgasms had felt quite like the one she'd just experienced.

Suddenly remembering she wasn't alone she turned her head, coming face to face with the woman who's name was on the tip of her tongue. What ever her name was, she was clearly in a very deep slumber as her eyes remained closed and her mouth slightly agape.

After the deed was done she generally showed her one night stand to the door. She hated when they stayed over. It always felt so much more awkward in a morning when she'd say goodbye and they'd ask if they could call her so they could do it again sometime.

Arizona wasn't a mean person, far from it infact. She prided herself on being the friendliest and most generous person you could ever meet...but when it came to her random one night stands, she always had to be firm and let them know, this was a one time thing.

Deciding she really didn't want that awkward morning meeting with the pretty woman in her bed, she exaggerated a cough as she sat up. It appeared to have worked as the woman stirred, opening her eyes and focusing on the blonde that was getting out of bed.

"Hey..." the woman smile. "You coming back to bed?"

Arizona had her excuse ready, just like she always did. As she grabbed her nearby dressing gown, she began covering her naked body. "Hey, sorry no. I've just been paged into work. Tiny human emergency" she said with a tight smile.

"Oh, OK." Slowly, the woman in the bed got up, searching for her clothes which had been thrown in various areas of the bedroom. As she slipped her dress back up her body, she turned to the blonde. "I had a really good night" she said with a smile.

"Yea, it was fun" the blonde replied, already anticipating the next line from the woman.

"So, do you want my number? Maybe we can do this again..."

Internally, Arizona rolled her eyes. "Ugh, yea I...I don't think so. I've got alot going on right now so not really looking for anything, you know?"

The woman knew a brush off when she heard one. Having thoroughly enjoyed her evening and the things the blonde had done to her, she was noticeably disappointed but nodded her head. "Yea, I get it. Well, if you change your mind, I work over at the Moore theatre. You should stop by some time."

"Yea, maybe" she replied with a shrug. She definitely wouldn't be going to that theatre. Moving forward she indicated for the other woman to go first and followed her to the front door.

"So I hope your emergency goes OK."

"Yea, me too" she lied, knowing full well she'd be going straight back up to bed when the woman was out of her apartment. Saying her goodbye, she closed the door, blowing out a relieved breath. Heading back to the bedroom, she removed her robe and slipped her naked body back into bed.

Her last thoughts before she succumbed to sleep were of Calliope Torres. What were the Latina's intentions with this after work drink and would it ever actually happen? Was she after friendship….or maybe, just maybe was there something more to it? Either way, Arizona was intrigued and apprehensive in equal measure. Perhaps she was just over…or wishful thinking but she was also convinced that there was more to Calliope Torres than meets the eye.
