Chapter 6
After Ash and Serena leave Devon Corp, Serena asks, "So where is this Mr. Briney lives? I mean...we didn't get to ask where he lived after we saved Peeko."
"Well, he must be living on Route 104, I think I have been to his place before. Mr. Briney was once a highly respected seafarer." Ash says.
"I see. Then what are we waiting for? Let's go." Serena says as they all head there.
After getting past the Petalburg Woods, they finally get to the southern part of Route 104. As they knock on the door, they find Mr. Briney is chasing after Peeko. "Hold on, lass! Belay that, Peeko!"
He spots the two of them and says, "Oh, if it ain't Ash and Serena! You're the ones who saved my Peeko! Aye, but we owe you for that day!"
"And that is why we want your help, we are going to Dewford Town and we need your ship to go there."
" What's that? Do you want to sail with me? What's this all about, then?" Mr. Briney asks.
After talking about the letter to Steven, Briney says, "A letter bound for Dewford? Certainly, that'd be no problem at all. You've come to the right man! Shall we hoist sail for Dewford at once?"
"Of course." Ash says, "It sure has been a while as well."
As they set sail, they sail to Route 105, a water route, and they see some Tentacool in the water. "They are Tentacool, it absorbs sunlight and refracts it using water inside its body to convert it into beam energy. This Pokémon shoots beams from the small round organ above its eyes."
"Really?" Serena says, "And that Pokemon is a Pelipper, right? Wingull's evolution, right?"
"Pelipper searches for food while in flight by skimming the wave tops. This Pokémon dips its large bill in the sea to scoop up food, then swallows everything in one big gulp." Ash says as they see the Pokemon dive to the water to get some Magikarp.
"And that is Wailmer! Wailmer can store water inside its body to transform itself into a ball for bouncing around on the ground. By filling itself up with more water, this Pokémon can elevate the height of its bounces."
"Sounds like you have known your Pokemon well." Mr. Briney says. "But then again, you have been training a lot, so it should be obvious."
"We are. But there are some Pokemon that I am surprised to see here." Ash says. "That is Skrelp and Clauncher, we found them in Route 8 of Kalos."
"Skrelp looks just like rotten kelp. It hides from foes while storing up power for its evolution. Through controlled expulsions of internal gas, Clauncher can expel water like a pistol shot. At close distances, it can shatter rock." Briney says.
"That's for sure. And there is Frillish, and it is a ghost type. If its veil-like arms stun and wrap a foe, that foe will be dragged miles below the surface, never to return." Ash says, and it causes Serena to shiver.
"And that one is Krabby. Krabby live on beaches, burrowed inside holes dug into the sand. On sandy beaches with little in the way of food, these Pokémon can be seen squabbling with each other over territory." Ash says.
As they continue sailing, Ash says, "But I remember that there are supposed to be a Sharpedo territory when we last come here...I guess I haven't seen them anywhere."
"They have been swimming, so that you won't be able to see them from here as they usually swim very far." Briney says as they nod.
After arriving at Dewford Town, Mr. Briney says, "Ahoy! We've struck land in Dewford, lad. I suppose you'll be heading ashore to deliver that letter to what's-his-name or whomever. If you're ever feeling lost and adrift though, try calling in on the island's Pokémon Gym. The Leader, Brawly, surely knows everyone and everything that goes on in his town!"
"Okay. We will." Ash says as they bid the sailor farewell.
"So what should we do first?" Serena asks, and Ash says, "How about we go challenge the gym? We can meet Brawly again."
"Brawly is the Gym Leader of this place, right?" Serena asks, "I wonder what does he look like?"
"I am sure you can see what he looks like from there." As Ash looks at the ocean, they find that a man is surfing with a Hariyama by his side.
"That's Brawly? It is so cool." Serena says.
"Well, he has tanned a little since we last meet. But he likes to surf despite he is a Fighting Type Trainer." Ash says.
After Brawly notices Ash and Serena, he comes and says, "Well if it isn't Ash? How have you been?"
"I am doing great, Brawly. This is my girlfriend Serena." Ash says as he shakes hands with Brawly.
"It is nice to meet you." Serena bows and Brawly says, "Very polite indeed. You got a pretty good girlfriend, Ash."
"Thanks, I come here so that I can have a rematch. I want to participate in the League again, and it will be a good idea if we have another gym battle." Ash says.
"So you are here for the third time, very well. You'll be surprised to see what my gym now looks like." Brawly says with a laugh, as they enter the gym.
They are surprised to see how the gym is modeled as a fitness center, filled with weight-lifting equipment and exercise machines. Ash says, "This was supposed to be a dojo...but now it is a training center...you really did a lot of this..."
"Of course. My girlfriend Tessa also helps me a lot as well." Brawly says.
"Oh yeah, how come I didn't see your girlfriend?" Ash asks, and Brawly says, "She has been training at Granite Cave for a while."
Serena says, "So Ash, did you really challenge this gym two times?"
"Yeah, I lost to Brawly for the first time, but then I won again after training on this island for a while." Ash says.
"So how about we have a battle right here right now?" Brawley asks, and Ash says, "Of course."
As the rules are the usual 2 vs.2 battle, Brawly says, "Now, Machamp, time to ride the wave!" Brawly sends out his Machamp, and Serena is a little surprised at the sudden appearance of the Fighting Type.
Ash says, "Noivern, I choose you!"
Once the two Pokemon are on the field, the battle starts. Brawly says, "I've been churned in the rough waves of these parts... And I've grown tough using the cave at the outskirts of this town as my training ground, as well as using the equipment in this Gym. So you want to challenge me? Let me see what you're made of! Machamp! Use Dual Chop!"
"Noivern, stop it with Boomburst!" Ash yells.
As Machamp charges at the Pokemon, it gives a large roar as Machamp stops its tracks. Brawly says, "Don't let it scare you! Use Cross Chop!"
The move causes Noivern to get hit, and it lands a critical hit, much to Ash's horror. "Focus Blast!"
"Use Hurricane to knock it back!" Ash yells as Noivern manages to stay on the field and goes for the Flying attack, sending the attack back.
"Now Roost yourself back to normal!" Ash says as Noivern recovers its HP, and then it goes for Air Slash, knocking Machamp out of the battle.
"I see your Noivern is strong. Now, Hariyama, time to catch the wave!"
"I am going to switch out my Pokemon as well." Ash says as he goes for Sceptile. "I think this guy wants to have a rematch as well."
"Very well." Brawly says. "Use Arm Thrust!"
As the Pokemon charges at Sceptile, it dodges and delivers a Leaf Blade on his right leg before jumping back to evade another Arm Thrust.
"My Sceptile has been faster than the last time we met." Ash says.
As Hariyama keeps up the offensive with several more Arm Thrusts, Sceptile manages to dodge each one, landing a few more Leaf Blade attacks on Hariyama's legs while carefully keeping its distance.
"Let's see if it can dodge the Vital Throw?" Brawly says, but the pain shooting through its legs slows it down, and the attack misses Sceptile by mere inches.
At this point, both Pokémon are exhausted. Ash says, "It is just like last time, when we are going to decide the match..."
"I agree..." Brawly says. "Knock Off!"
"Aerial Ace!" Ash yells back.
Both attacks make contact and the two pass each other, landing on opposite sides of the battlefield. Each spectator waits in agonizing anticipation as neither of the Pokémon moves a muscle. After a long moment of silence, Hariyama falls unconscious.
Serena yells, "Ash won!" Pikachu is also cheering as well. Sceptile is a little tired, and Ash hugs it.
"OK, you've got me. Take this Gym Badge!" Brawly says as he hands over the Knuckle Badge, Ash takes the badge and says, "I got the Knuckle Badge!"
Pikachu is cheering with Ash for the win, and Serena is also praising Ash for the win as well.
" I can see your talent becoming a giant wave that causes a storm of astonishment with Trainers one day! I look forward to the day when I can surf your giant wave!" Brawly says.
"Of course." Ash replies.
"By the way, have you been to Granite Cave? It's located to the north of this town. It's full of fascinating stuff, like rare stones and wall paintings thousands of years old. My friend Steven rushed to the cave after I told him about it." Brawly says.
"You mean the Champion Steven is there? We are just about to find him since his father wants us to deliver a letter to him." Ash says.
"I see, I am sure he won't be leaving anytime soon, so you should go as soon as possible." Brawly says as the two of them nod, also bidding farewell to him.
As they are walking on the island, Serena says, "This Dewford Island sure is big. I mean...there are a lot of trees and water around."
"That's right. If I remember correctly, that beach is where I found my Corphish. Believe me, it is hard to capture considering that it is digging underground." Ash says.
"That sure is hard." Serena adds.
"And over there is where the Mudkip lives, Swampy is the owner there as he raises the Mudkip until they are good for new trainers." Ash says.
Serena sends out Mudkip as it is excited to go back to its own home, and both Ash and Serena decide to visit the place as they get to see Swampy again.
After having Mudkip getting along with the others, they don't forget that they are going to Granite Cave to find Steven, so they quickly head there before Steven is about to leave the place.
Here is a new chapter, and in this chapter, Ash wins his second badge. Now a lot of you ask me a question. If I am going to use the Pokemon Alpha Sapphire route for this story, then what about another one of my story: Ash's Story Game Version? In that story, it will be with the plot of Emerald with some Ruby and Sapphire mentions, and this one is only for Alpha Sappire. And I hope you understand.
In the next chapter, Ash and Serena finally are going to meet Steven Stone, I hope you like it.
