The gang was still in Vermilion City. They were currently at the harbor when Misty suddenly noticed something.
"Hey, that's the largest ship in the Kanto Region also known as the S.S Anne." She said.
"Wow, I would love to travel on that." Ash said in awe.
"The only problem is, we can't afford to buy tickets for it." Brock said.
Just then, an old couple approached the gang.
"Hello there, young children, are you trainers by any chance?" The old man asked the gang.
"Yes we are." Ash answered.
"Then these are for you." The old woman said as she handed Ash three tickets.
"Are these tickets for the S.S Anne?" Misty asked surprisingly.
"Why would you give these to us?" Brock asked.
"Well, a few of our friends had some things to tend to, so we didn't want these tickets to be wasted." The old man explained.
"Awesome, thank you so much." Misty said with joy. Ash and Brock looked at each other and shrugged it off as they boarded the ship. Unbeknownst to them, it was a trap as the old couple was Team Rocket in disguise.
"Well, that was easy." Jessie said.
"You said it, Jess." James agreed.
"Alright, let's go report to the boss." Meowth said.
Team Rocket called a middle-aged man named Giovanni who was the leader of Team Rocket. His desire was to capture hundreds of powerful Pokemon and use them to take the whole world with both humans and Pokemon under his control.
"Is everything ready?" Giovanni asked.
"Yes." Jessie answered. "Tons of Pokemon trainers are on board the S.S Anne."
"Splendid." Giovanni said. "The others are on board and when the time comes, we'll steal all of those trainer's Pokemon."
"Let's go." Meowth said.
"Right." Jessie and James nodded.
Meanwhile the gang was looking in amazement inside the ship. Pokemon trainers were everywhere and there were buffets and booths, it was like a Pokemon convention.
"I hope there's a strong Pokemon trainer here who I'd like to battle." Ash said.
Then the gang noticed a gentleman battling someone.
"Raticate, finish Starmie off with Crunch." The gentleman said. Raticate opens it's mouth, creates a yellow teeth-like aura and bites down on Starmie which caused it to faint.
"Starmie, return." Starmie's trainer said as he returned it.
"Don't let the loss get you down, son." The gentleman assured him. "Just keep on training your Starmie's strength."
"Right, thanks." Starmie's trainer said.
"Now then, does anyone else want to challenge me and my Raticate?" The gentleman asked.
"I will." Ash said, stepping forward.
"Alright, as you wish." The gentleman accepted Ash's challenge.
"Sandshrew, I choose you." Ash said as he sent out his Sandshrew.
"Sandshrew." Sandshrew said.
"Sandshrew, use Rollout." Ash ordered. Sandshrew rolled into a ball and raced towards Raticate.
"Raticate, Counter." Raticate glows orange and hit Sandshrew.
"Now Double Team." The gentleman said. Raticate glowed white and produced copies of itself.
"Sandshrew, use Swift." Ash ordered. Sandshrew's tail glowed yellow, fired multiple yellow stars and hit the copies and the real Raticate.
"Hyper Fang." The gentleman said. Raticate's teeth glow bright orange and charged at Sandshrew.
"Dodge and use Brick Break." Ash ordered. Sandshrew's hand glowed bluish white and punched Raticate.
"Use Ice Beam." Raticate opened it's mouth and fired a light blue beam and hit Sandshrew, which caused him to become frozen in a block of ice.
"Sandshrew!" Ash called out.
Suddenly Sandshrew glowed bluish white, broke out of the ice and evolved into a yellow hedgehog-like Pokemon with brown quills.
"Sandslash!" He said.
"You evolved!" Ash said surprisingly as he pulled out his Pokedex.
"Sandslash, the Mouse Pokemon and the evolved form of Sandshrew. Curls up into a spiny ball when threatened. It can roll while curled up to attack or escape.

Learned Moves: Crush Claw and Earthquake."
"Alright Sandslash, let's try out your new move, use Crush Claw." Ash ordered. Sandslash's claw became surrounded by a crimson aura and hit Raticate, causing it to faint.
"Good job, Sandslash." Ash praised.
"Sandslash." Sandslash said as he high-fived Ash.
"Return Raticate." The gentleman said as he returned his Raticate. "I congratulate you, boy."
"Thank you very much, sir." Ash said.
After the battle, the gang decided what to do next. Eventually they came up with the idea to split up and look around the S.S Anne.

"I better report this." Ash said.
Ash went to find a security guard and eventually saw one.
"Excuse me sir, but there's a man selling a Magikarp." Ash informed the security guard.
The security guard followed him and spotted the man Ash was talking about.
"Thank you young man, Officer Jenny's been looking for this guy for a long time." The security guard said. "I shall contact the authorities at once."
The police arrived shortly after that and led the salesman off the S.S Anne.
Ash approached the Magikarp that was in the tank.
"Hello Magikarp." He greeted with a smile.
"Magikarp." Magikarp said.
"Don't worry Magikarp, I'll take good care of you." Ash assured it.
"Would you like to be a part of my team?" Ash asked.
"Karp Karp." Magikarp nodded.
Ash returned Magikarp to it's Poke Ball and looked it up in the Pokedex.
"Magikarp, the Fish Pokemon. In the distant past, it was somewhat stronger than the horribly weak descendants that exist today.

After that, Ash rejoined Misty and Brock. The gang shared about what they did after they split up.
"I purchased a cook book with new recipes and a Pokemon medical book." Brock said.
"I bought a lot of cute stuff and accessories." Misty said.
Ash told Misty and Brock about the Magikarp salesman and how he received the Magikarp.
"That's terrible, selling Pokemon is so wrong and unacceptable." Misty said.
"You got that right and it's a good thing you reported him, Ash." Brock said.
"Are you going to be okay once your Magikarp evolves into Gyarados?" Misty asked.
"Of course, it's nothing I can't handle." Ash assured her.
Suddenly black smoke poured into the room.
"What's happening?" Ash asked. Team Rocket then appeared.
"What are you up to this time?" Misty demanded.
"Well, we're here to take your Pokemon, of course." Jessie smirked before snapping her fingers.
Several of the grunts of Team Rocket revealed themselves as they were holding vacuum machines.
"Let's suck up those Pokemon!" James shouted. The agents turn the machines on.
"Oh no you don't!" Ash yelled. "Everyone, let's fight back now!"
The trainers released their Pokemon and a massive battle began on the ship. Soon, the trainers were victorious.
Then a storm rolled in and big waves rocked the ship.
"That's a bad storm out there." Misty said as she looked out the window. The other trainers were concerned as well.
"Calm down." The captain instructed. "Panicking will only lead to further problems. The ship has plenty of life boats and they will get us to safety." The gang and the other trainers ran to the life boats.
Despite the captain's instructions, the other trainers panicked. The gang was knocked out when some of the trainers ran into them.
While the gang was unconscious, the other trainers watched the S.S Anne sink beneath the waves from the life boats. Unbeknownst to them, the gang was still inside the ship.
