Deal with it: Bellosom has the healer ability but it only sometimes happens. Vileplume learns the move aromatherapy which heals the whole party's condition. So I would think you would get more consistency with Vileplume. Sadly Bellosom can't learn aromatherapy.

Ok guys going off of votes it's a dead 50/50 tie for Meowth so I think with my deciding vote as author.
Meowth will be normal. I will have him most likely on Jessie's team to make it easier for him to be around. Maybe I will have him learn sign language.
Chapter 5: First Catches?
It's been a few days since we started looking for Jessie's starter. You think like in the anime pokemon are everywhere or like in the games just walk through some tall grass. Well, you would be wrong!
We have spent four days since the shopping spree looking for pokemon from morning to dinner. We haven't seen anything worthwhile here at all. The only bonus to this so far is that me and Jessie have become closer and I have been getting Hestia into shape with some training in the afternoons.
Mainly I have Hestia doing some running drills to get her stamina up, and luckily, I found this clearing just on the outskirts of town to use for agility training. It's full of big rocks and holes from a previous trainer that is working well for Hestia to work on her footwork in tough terrain.
While Hestia does her training, I've also been doing some jogging and basic physical fitness to make it more of a bonding experience. It's also much easier to work your body out in this universe. If I did any of this routine in my past life, I would be extremely sore the next day but I'm barely sore at all.
Jessie will join me for most days when I train and join in on the physical fitness that I'm doing. I didn't notice in the store but she bought some really nice workout gear. Athletic booty shorts that hug her ass and show off her amazing legs, and a tank top that doesn't cover her sports bra well at all.
The sports bra always looks like it's bursting and might be a size too small but damn. It's hard to work out with Jessie when she is such a hot ass distraction. She has caught me looking a couple times and I would think she would get mad but she just blushes a little and continues what we're doing.
To be fair I have caught her checking me out some as well and damn is that an ego boost. I wasn't the best-looking guy from what I remember and only ever had one girlfriend. Having someone as sexy as Jessie checking me out is a real confidence booster.
While me and Jessie have been ogling each other, Hestia has been putting in great work. She used to struggle running around the field but now runs in it like she owns it. After she got the field down, we started working on her moves.
Her ember appears to be strong already and we have mainly been working on accuracy with the rocks around the field. Bite seems hard for her to hold so I have had her practice on branches and logs which have also helped sharpen her teeth some.
Roar and Leer seem to work fine and can't really test them till we finally run into another pokemon. Morning sun has not been the best. Hestia can maybe use it for a few seconds and then she is wiped afterwards. That's a move we agreed to come back to later.
For now, we are working on Bite and Ember to try and get them to their best capacity. I want to work on reversal next to help out with Brock's gym. I also need to get myself a second pokemon once we get one for Jessie.
Which we are still trying to do now. We walked around a route and went into the woods a little bit. I have had Hestia mark some trees with her claws so we can find our way back if needed.
Jessie has seemed a little down trodden that we haven't found anything but I'm trying to be optimistic. After an hour or two walking into the woods we finally hear a rustle coming from some bushes.
"Get ready Hestia, we finally can get a pokemon for Jessie." Hestia gets in a stance prepared to pounce when a lady walks out of the bushes.
"Oh, I'm sorry I didn't mean to startle you. I must have heard you when walking I thought there was a pokemon nearby" she said with an apologetic face.
The girl was fairly cute. She had long blue hair with a red hair band and a yellow bow holding the long section together. She also wore a pink shirt and red overalls and was carrying a weaved basket full of plants and berries.
"My name is Melanie. I take care of wild pokemon and make sure they can get the medical attention they need as well." When Melanie introduced herself, I had an epiphany of who she was.
She runs the hidden village where Ash gets Bulbasaur. That's really tempting to try and catch. Ash's Bulbasaur was extremely strong. Although I didn't like the fact he never evolved. Even if he was smaller, he lacked the power he needed to be a real monster.
Jessie looked like a super fan when she mentioned taking care of wild pokemon. "My name is Jessie and this is my friend James and his Growlithe Hestia. I want to be a travel pokemon nurse. Would it be possible for you to teach me a thing or two please?" After introducing us she bowed low and Melanie looked slightly embarrassed.
"Oh, um sure I wouldn't mind, but where I take you two, you're not allowed to catch any pokemon is that clear?" Melanie was nice when she first started and then got extremely stern and a little scary as she mentioned not catching the pokemon.
We both agreed readily. This is a good chance for Jessie to learn some things that could help in the wild if ever needed. Who knows if berries work the same in the anime as they do in the game?
"Of course, you have my word. If you can help Jessie with her dream even a little, that is worth much more than a pokemon to catch. So please help her learn." I said and bowed as well thinking this is still like Japanese custom even here in the anime.
"Ok good. Well, I have finished picking the herbs and berries I needed, but we can start with pointing out what can help you in the wild as we head back to camp." Melanie started explaining plants and berries to use to help pokemon heal.
I start spacing out but a smile comes to my face as Jessie pulls out a notebook she has from her bag and writes notes as she follows Melanie back. I made sure Jessie didn't run into trees or fall on the way to camp the best I could.
Following Melanie to her village we had to stop several times for her to disarm and then rearm traps as we walked through. She said it was to keep trainers away from getting the pokemon while they were already hurt.
The walk only took an hour or two but when we arrived the village seemed to be a very relaxing place. Besides the cabin from the anime there was a decently sized pond that held some water pokemon. A few pokemon were also hanging out in the grass or under the shade of a tree.
Most of the pokemon were fairly common to the area. There was Magikarp and Goldeen in the water with a stray Staryu as well. In the grass there was Rattata and a few Paris and Weepinbell. There was also a stray Oddish hanging out with Ash's Bulbasaur.
The Bulbasaur eyes us and was getting prepared to attack till Melanie waved him off and then he settled down some but he still kept his eye on us. I told Hestia to go play with some of the pokemon, and she yipped happily and jogged over to the Weepinbell's who looked like they were playing catch.
I decided to walk around the area some while Jessie got some tutoring from Melanie. There weren't many pokemon around so I decided to just dip my feet in the water and watch Hestia play with the other pokemon. It felt nice to relax like this. I will have to make sure not to get training crazy on the road and just chill every once in a while.
As I waited longer, I noticed the Staryu wading towards me slowly. I raised an eyebrow as it peaked out of the water. Just like in the anime it made a weird grunt noise as its jewel flashed as if saying hello.
"Hey little guy, do you enjoy yourself here?" I asked Staryu. He did a little spin but then his top arm pointed down a little and his ruby did a soft glow. I'm kind of curious as to why Staryu came up to me.
With Hestia it was easy to tell what she said but with Staryu I am having a rougher time with it. "Do you not want to be here, Staryu. You probably can't leave as easily as other pokemon and you seem fine looking to me."
The Staryu did a spin and his top arm did like a nod with his gem glowing brighter this time. He hopped out of the water and landed next to me and pointed at me." Do you want to come with me?" I was honestly surprised as I asked the question.
Starmie would be a great addition to my team. A Water/Psychic type that has a versatile move pool would be amazing in the gym and tourney circuit. Starmie can also get around the field easily with rapid spin and can maneuver the water just as easily.
Staryu nodded and hopped and did a spin as his gem glowed really bright. He seemed happy but I promised Melanie I wouldn't catch any pokemon here. "I would love for you to join my team but we have to make sure it's ok with Melanie first alright. I promised her I wouldn't catch any pokemon here."
Staryu grunted again and started walking towards the cabin. With its two bottom legs it was kind of slow walking over but not like it would rapid spin everywhere.
As we made it to the cabin, I opened the door for Staryu and we walked inside to Melanie lecturing Jessie on pokemon diets. Melanie was lecturing from a couch and Jessie was across from her on a sofa. Jessie looked very cute with her thinking face as she stuck her tongue out a little bit. She was following along and looked halfway through her notebook already.
"Sorry to interrupt Melanie but uh someone wanted to ask you to join me." I kind of nervously scratched my head as Staryu spinned up to the table. Staryu gave a grunt noise with a happy gem brightness and nodded his head.
Melanie looked a little surprised and seemed super happy when Staryu moved around excitedly. "Oh, I'm so happy! Staryu has been wanting to leave for a while but it's hard to get to the ocean from here and he was abandoned by a trainer." She petted Staryu and gave his arm a shake.
"So, it's ok if I capture him? I know I promised not to catch anything here but he approached me." I don't like breaking my promises really but a Starmie would be an awesome addition.
"Oh of course. Not every pokemon will be here forever. I'm glad Staryu wanted to approach you while I had some visitors. I was afraid he would be here forever." Melanie nodded and waved towards my belt.
I pulled out an empty pokeball and started shaking in excitement at my first capture. "Well, Staryu ready to join my journey?" I enlarged the pokeball and held it out for Staryu to do the honors.
Staryu did his grunt and happily tapped the button on the ball. Once he was absorbed from the red light the ball dinged instantly. Melanie and Jessie did a round of applause and I let out Staryu from his ball.
"Well, Staryu, I want to give all my pokemon their own nicknames. How would you like one?" Staryu did a spin in the air.
As I thought of a name, only one came to mind. Figuring I would stick with the god theme for now. "How about Neptune?" I asked as I petted his arm which was kind of rough to the touch.
Staryu grunted happily and his gem glowed brightly. "Well, I'll take that as a yes, now let me scan you with my pokedex so we can get to training!"
Pulling out my phone I pulled up the pokedex app and scanned Staryu.
Staryu, The Star Shape Pokemon, Even if its body is torn, it can regenerate as long as the glowing central core remains intact.
Staryu is Male, and has the ability Natural Cure.
Natural Cure heals all status problems when the pokemon is switched out.
Known Moves: Harden, Tackle, Water Gun, Confuse Ray, Rapid Spin
That's a diverse set already. Confused ray will really be helpful in fights when Staryu doesn't have the mobility. Also, if Staryu gets poisoned or paralyzed I can swap him out and he's good!
"Wow Staryu you are really strong!" Staryu grunted as he did a spin and his gem glowed brightly. Finally, my first catch and so far, my team is looking great!
"I'm glad Staryu found a home. I just wished some other of those pokemon wanted to leave and branch out like him." Melanie sighed and she had a small smile on her face watching Staryu but you could see the sadness in her eyes.
"What do you mean Melanie?" Jessie asked and looked sort of surprised at what Melanie stated.
"They don't want to leave once they are cured don't they?" I answered the reason I remembered from the anime because it made sense. Why struggle in the wild when you can stay in this small village worry free.
Melanie is a nice human but is realistic when it comes to pokemon. She knows they want to grow and become stronger but they can't here, and they become stagnant due to the fact.
"Yes sadly, some of the pokemon like to live here peacefully which I'm fine with. But with how some of them are I think they are afraid to try and leave and have become afraid of some humans." Melanie stated with a sigh as she looked out the window at her village of pokemon.
"I noticed some moved as far away from me as they could when I walked around and finally when I settled on the edge of the pond they relaxed. The Bulbasaur also never took his eyes off me." It was a bit weird to be watched that much by Bulbasaur but I understand he was abused and wants to protect his friends.
"I'm sorry about that. He is the protector of the group. He has been fine for a while but he likes protecting everyone here." Melanie gave me a sheepish smile and I waved her off and noticed it's starting to get dark out.
"Melanie is it ok if we stay here tonight and leave tomorrow? We don't have to catch our teleportation time till later in the evening." I asked while checking the time on my phone and it's seven at night.
"Oh yes I don't have much room in here if you're okay to camp outside. I will let the pokemon know so they don't harass you. It's time to feed them anyway. Ill feed your pokemon as well so just sit and relax for now." As she said that she hurried outside
Staryu followed Melanie out to get some food before he leaves with us tomorrow. I sighed as she rushed outside and took a seat next to Jessie. I stretched out my back and stared at the ceiling as I felt a warm body lean against me and a weight fall on my shoulder.
When I look over, I see Jessie's bright hair and smile. I can feel her breath on my shoulder and it's soothing to feel her breath patterns as we relaxed in the quiet cabin. I lifted my arm and draped it over her shoulder and pulled her in more. I could feel her sigh happily as we rested on the sofa.
It felt nice to have her this close to me. She was warm and firm but yet soft as she rested against me. I started rubbing her arm and she hummed into my shoulder as we sat there. I never thought I could be this comfortable.
Sadly, I broke the silence because I was too curious if Jessie learned anything.
"So how was your training? Was Melanie a good teacher?" Jessie sighed a little and looked up at me but didn't move her head from my shoulder. "Yeah, it's just so much. I wrote everything down but my brain feels like it's about to explode."
She whined and huffed a little at the question. I took my left hand and started massaging her forehead a little. She sighed and closed her eyes. We stayed like this for a while, the only noise coming from Jessie as she hummed to the tune of the massage, I gave her.
When the door opened, we split apart from each other a little bit and it was quite awkward. Melanie luckily didn't see anything or at least didn't seem fazed at all as she came in. Neptune and Hestia were following her. Hestia jumped up between me and Jessie and was out like a light.
She must have played too hard with all the other pokemon and got tuckered out. Neptune grunted hello and waved his arm as he pointed at the pokeball. "Do you like sleeping in the pokeball?" I asked Neptune. I'm not too entirely sure if the pokeball is comfy or not.
He gave me a nod with a flash of his gem and I promised him he could say goodbye to his friends before we left tomorrow. I called him back into his ball and placed him on my belt. Weirdly his ball seemed cool and calm unlike when Hestia's is in hers which is a pleasant warmth.
I got up and stretched. Jessie said she would make everyone dinner so I decided to go outside and set up our tent. It only takes a few seconds with the cool features. Once I laid out the mats and grabbed mine and Jessie's sleeping bags, we were good to go.
Jessie made a quick meal of chicken and rice but it was filling and just what I needed. As we sat outside Melanie got a fire started and we hanged out with the nice girl. She dreamed of being a pokemon nurse like Jessie but found her home here taking care of wild pokemon.
What we all didn't know was that there was a pokemon hiding and watching Jessie the whole time.
As we wrapped up, we quietly went to bed and got into our bags. We changed into our sleeping wear and I was slightly sad when Jessie hurried into her sleeping bag. She wore cute pajama boxers and a baggy shirt to bed that she looked cute in.
While I just wore some basketball shorts and one of my clean shorts to bed personally.
Hestia cuddled up to Jessie and I must have given a look of betrayal because Jessie gave me a smirk as she pulled Hestia closer to her.
I chuckled a bit thinking it was too hot to cuddle with Hestia's extreme warmth anyways. It's like that Growlithe loses control of her fire typing when she sleeps. I wouldn't be surprised to wake up with burns one night.
As I looked across at Jessie and Hestia cuddling while they slept, I went to bed with a smile on my face at how cute they were.
Morning
When I woke up Jessie and Hestia were out of the tent. As I got out of the tent myself, I saw the pokemon having their morning food. Jessie must have released Neptune as well because I saw him eating next to Hestia and so far, they seemed to be getting along.
Jessie was eating breakfast at a table outside with Melanie and there was an Oddish in her lap?
"Morning sleeping beauty." Jessie said with a huge smile. She seemed way too happy for how early it was.
"What made you so happy this morning?" I asked as I sat down next to her.
"You missed my first capture! This cute girl right here came up to me shyly and asked if she could join me too. I'm so excited. Jessie, I want you to meet my starter Petal." Jessie introduced me to Petal and I was shocked.
"Well welcome to the squad Petal were glad to have you." I welcomed her as she offered me a leaf to shake. It was pretty cute of her to do.
"So, she just approached you randomly?" I asked Jessie as I sipped on some juice.
"Well, the Bulbasaur was pushing her towards me because she was too shy to do it but I'm so happy she wanted to join me. When I asked her why she said she wants to heal pokemon and only battle when necessary. How could I say no to that!" Jessie was ecstatic and who could blame her. Your first pokemon is a huge deal.
"I'm glad you got your first pokemon in time. We have to leave soon if we want to catch the teleportation service in Saffron." I said as I finished up the quick breakfast. I had Staryu spray down our dishes and it was like a power washer hit them. That water gun was no joke.
Once we changed and got our camp site cleaned up, we let Petal and Neptune say goodbye to their friends before I recalled Neptune and Jessie carried Petal. Melanie led us out of her trapped pathway again and got us to the main road before saying our goodbyes.
"Now I want you two to take care of those sweethearts and I will be cheering you on at the Pokemon conference. I usually try to visit family around that time and watch the event." Melanie gave us both a hug and waved as she walked back into the woods and left us alone.
On the walk back Jessie explained everything Melanie taught her now that her brain wasn't over loaded. She went over common plants that were good for healing and eating. Dietary plans for each pokemon type and what wild plants/berries are good for them as well.
All in all, Jessie learned quite a bit and she is planning on making food for our Pokemon once we start getting better income. By the time we got back to the city we had time to get a quick lunch then rush over to the Saffron gym where the teleportation service was being provided.
Overall, it was a food week in Saffron and I can't wait to come back in the future to get my badges. I even set the city as my hometown till I get a sponsor and then I will change it to where they are most likely.
When it was our turn to teleport, Jessie and I held hands and it felt like being pulled through a tube and we both landed on our butts. Once we got up and dusted ourselves, we saw the sign saying we have arrived at Viridian City!
We both smiled at each other and rushed to the pokemon center so we could get some rest and start our journey!

Here we go boys and girls we are finally getting to the good stuff! With all the suggestions I kept thinking about water type pokemon I never see get used and one of the ones that came to mind was Starmie.
I believe that is due to Misty and is such a waste of a good pokemon. Also, Jessie got Petal as stated. Meowth probably won't come in till later. He was from an anime-only town so I have to figure out how to get him in.
Also, I have a grass type planned for viridian forest so no suggestions for that typing either please!
