Sometimes Naruto can't help but believe that maybe he really is an idiot. Seriously what kind of idiot goes into a scary abandoned temple by themselves without any form of protection?

It all started earlier when the young 12 year old blond was wandering the outskirts of Konoha. He decided to take a break from his pranks for a bit. His original intention was to simply walk around for a little, however he ended up walking for a much longer amount of time. Not really paying all too much attention to exactly where he was going, when he did arrive in the outskirts, curiosity got the better of him and he ended up outside of Konoha. Apparently there was a secret opening to outside of the village, Naruto figured it was a breach in village security that nobody seemed to know about. He knew for a fact that if the man he kinda looks up to as a surrogate grandfather, the Sandaime Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen, knew about this he would've had Anbu or someone secure this breach.

Making his way outside of Konoha, Naruto traveled around for at least an hour before he ended up discovering the abandoned temple.

It was weird, he could feel something odd about the temple. As if it were calling to him, he could feel something deep within him wanting to respond to the calling. Instead of brushing the feeling off as nothing, of course Naruto decided to explore more about it and went inside of the temple. After walking around he found out the name of the temple is the Uzumaki Clan Temple, much to his absolute shock seeing as his last name is Uzumaki.

While the revelation of actually having a clan was mind boggling, what made him push that to the side was a collection of 30 oni-masks. Now this isn't the first time Naruto has seen an oni-mask, however it was his first time looking at one and feeling something odd radiating from it.

Again, letting his curiosity get the better of him, he took one mask off then placed it on his face. For two solid seconds nothing happened, what followed next a certain sensation passed through Naruto's entire body. It was the coldest and darkest feeling that the young 12 year old has ever felt. Not even the old Hokage's killing intent can compare.

Surprisingly he wasn't in pain, no in fact he felt better than ever. Whatever this strange feeling is, he can definitely tell it's much stronger than his chakra. And that's saying something considering how dense Naruto's chakra is itself.

Suddenly he felt the urge to turn around, a presence, a very strong dark presence was behind him. When he turned around, Naruto's heart sunk to his stomach.

A translucent, gaunt spectre with a demonic visage floating in the air. Way bigger than the average human, possessing long, shaggy, white hair, from which two red horns protrude, as well as purple colored skin. The being is draped in a large white kimono while carrying a set of prayer beads. Sharp, jagged teeth with a very long tongue of a serpentine. A tanto can be seen in its mouth.

Only one word came out of his mouth, somehow he didn't even need to think about who this entity could possibly be.

"Shinigami…"

It removed the tanto from its mouth before smirking. "Very good child, you're one of the few who immediately knew who I was without even being told."

This situation is what leads Naruto to believe that he's truly an idiot.

While most people would definitely be pissing themselves right now. Uzumaki Naruto isn't like most, while he did fear the being somewhat. He would be damned if he let it show. One doesn't grow up in the Red Light District without learning how to be tough.

He took a deep breath before he steeled his resolve. "Not to be disrespectful Shinigami-sama but what are you doing here?" Usually Naruto isn't one using that kind of honorific with anybody. However he needs to play his cards right if he wants to walk out of here with his life in tact…

Surprisingly the Shinigami waved him off. "No need for honorifics, just call me Yama seeing as it is my actual name."

Naruto nodded.

"As to answer your question, you see you summoned me here once you put on the mask. These masks are able to summon me at the cost of the user's life."

It watched the blond's shocked reaction in amusement. "B-But I didn't do anything! All I did was put it on." Naruto retorted.

"Yes that is true, normally the user would have to perform a technique in order to summon me. However when an Uzumaki of royal blood puts on one of the masks, I am automatically summoned without the user doing anything. This is due to the fact that it was the Uzumaki clan who made a contract with me to allow them to summon me many years ago. While most Uzumakis can possibly survive the use of the masks due to their strong life force. It is not a guaranteed survival as it is for an Uzumaki of royal blood. Before you ask, the mask has special hidden seals in them that allow them to sense your chakra and blood. Anyone who is not an Uzumaki has absolutely zero chance of surviving, thus leading me to taking their souls. This is how I was summoned, you are an Uzumaki who carries their royal blood in your veins." Yama explained.

Safe to say the blond was stunned, not only was he from a clan but he's also royalty? If so then why the hell has his life been as shitty as it is for as long as he can remember? Why would the villagers hate him when they always seem to suck up to those with higher social standings? As a matter of fact, why didn't the old man ever tell him about this?

"Ok...this is a lot of information to take in but how can I be royalty when I'm an orphan?" Naruto asked.

"Simple, your parents died 12 years ago during the Kyuubi attack. Your mother is a princess who was next in line to take the throne. Her name is Uzumaki Kushina. Your father is the Yondaime Hokage, Minato Namikaze. The same man who sealed the Kyuubi inside of you, making you a jinchuuriki." Yama answered the young Uzumaki.

It took all of Naruto's willpower to not faint on sight. His father is the freaking Yondaime?! His mother was a princess who was next in line for the throne?! And the Kyuubi is sealed inside of him?! What's next some kind of powerful ability is going to be passed down to him?

Yama could see the inner turmoil that Naruto is going through. "This is a lot to take in, you have questions so ask them." His tone stayed impassive.

Oh Naruto had questions alright. "How did my parents die? Do you know if they loved me?"

"The day you were born, a masked Uchiha going by the alias of Madara Uchiha infiltrated the barrier and security team that your parents set up in order to make sure nothing goes wrong with the delivery. You see your mother was the holder of the Kyuubi prior to you, when pregnant a female jinchuuriki seal weakens greatly. Your father being a master in the arts of sealing was able to prevent Kyuubi from escaping the seal. After you were born, moments later the masked Uchiha made his move and took you from your parents arms. He demanded your father step away from your mother. Once he placed an explosive tag on the blanket around you, he escaped with your mother while your father saved you from dying. The masked man tied your mother up and was able to free Kyuubi from his seal. By using his Sharingan, the masked Uchiha placed Kyuubi in a genjutsu to control him. Your mother survived the extraction due to her being an Uzumaki. As I stated earlier, your clan has a very strong life force. Minato found her moments after Madara left with Kyuubi. He took her to one of his safe houses you were at. While your mother stayed with you, Minato left to confront the masked Uchiha. Minato had been able to defeat the Uchiha and broke his control over Kyuubi, though this led to Kyuubi raging in anger as he kept destroying the village. With the masked Uchiha escaping, Minato took on Kyuubi and used one of his teleportation techniques to teleport the fox outside of the village. The destination was yours and Kushina's location. Your mother suggested to seal Kyuubi back within her so she could die with it. Minato believed that Kyuubi's power would be needed in the future so he sealed him within you. Your mother vehemently refused at first until your father had finally been able to convince her reluctantly. She did not want you to carry the same burden she did growing up. Minato used a jutsu known as Shiki Fūjin or Reaper Death Seal. It's an S-rank fuinjutsu created by the Uzumaki Clan. These are one of the techniques they came up with that allowed them to summon me. Those outside of the Uzumaki Clan who knows of this technique believe that it's the only way to summon me. Kyuubi saw what your parents were planning, he did not want to be sealed again after being sealed away for decades. So he tried to kill you but your parents jumped in the way to save you. While being impaled by a claw, they said their final goodbyes to you before Minato sealed Kyuubi inside of you. They also sealed the remainder of their chakra within you to help you out with Kyuubi when the time comes. As for if they loved you or not, they loved you the moment they found out about you." Yama finished the long explanation.

Naruto couldn't help but cry, he felt a giant weight lift off of his shoulders. He finally knew who his parents were, the story behind their deaths and he now knows that they loved him. Hell apparently they've always been with him if what Yama said about their chakra being inside of him is true, which he has no reason to believe it's not the truth.

"Thank you." He wiped away his tears while smiling. "I can finally move on in life knowing that my parents died protecting me."

"Think nothing of it young Uzumaki, as the god of death, I know nearly all the goes on in the living world and so on. You don't seem bothered by having Kyuubi inside of you."

Naruto nodded. "It's definitely a shock but it does make sense. It explains why the villagers pretty much hate me for being alive. They see me as the fox even though they all know it's sealed inside of me. It's obvious I'm not Kyuubi himself, sure I have whiskers but come on. I don't have any fur whatsoever."

"Mortals have a tendency of letting their hatred blind their judgement. I can say for a fact that deep down the people of Konoha who treated you poorly knew you weren't Kyuubi. They knew you weren't the reincarnation of him, yet they still treated you wrongly for years with different forms of abuse such as mental, emotional and physical abuse. The man you see as a surrogate grandfather may try to help you. But he does more harm than good. Did you know back when you were being physically abused a few years ago, he would let said abusers walk away essentially scotch free? Saying that he had no control since it was the job of the civilian council to handle civilian issues, when he's the Hokage and according to him his word is law." Yama told the boy.

Naruto's eyes widened in shock. "Y-You don't mean.."

"I'm not saying he doesn't care about you, but Sarutobi Hiruzen does see you as a military weapon due to what you hold. Instead of placing a loyalty seal on you like his advisors wanted him to, he settled for letting the villagers abuse you. This way he can be there in your corner while you are still being conditioned to be submissive to them and those in power. Sarutobi believed that by doing this and telling you to forgive the villagers for their actions. It will ensure the safety of Konoha from you ever wanting payback for their actions. The reason why you never learned about your clan until now is because Sarutobi and the elders did not want you to know of anything concerning your heritage unless it was something that they wanted you to know. Sarutobi never planned on telling you who your parents were until you were 21 years old, he believed that your loyalty to Konoha would be unbreakable by that time. He did plan on keeping nearly everything that belonged to you and your clan. For example, instead of letting you live in the Uzumaki Compound, he placed you in a rundown apartment that constantly gets broken into by the villagers. You complain to him about it and he does nothing but tell you to forgive the villagers. When he has the power to stop it instantly." Yama wasn't a fan of the old monkey. The man is the reason why the Senju, Uzumaki and Uchiha clans are nearly nonexistent. While Yama doesn't care much for mortals, it doesn't like when innocent souls cross over too early because of a fool's actions. Plus Hiruzen's treatment towards the Child of Prophecy is unforgivable. Yama personally has talked to three of the four Hokages in the afterlife. They were far from happy with the old monkey. Minato and Tobirama mess with Hiruzen sometimes by haunting his dreams.

He couldn't believe it, was it all a lie? Did the old man only get close to him in order for Naruto to easily let his guard down around him? So that he could manipulate Naruto to how Hiruzen sees fit?

Anger coursed through his veins, Konoha thinks that his life is theirs to control do they? Well not anymore it's not, from this moment forward Naruto is taking control of his life. Never again will he let anyone control the way he lives his life. Now it makes sense why the teacher is the academy always teaches him differently from everyone else. They were sabotaging him in order to keep him weak and controllable. Naruto may not be the brightest in the box but he does know that he has a lot of chakra. More so than anybody in the academy, how could the teachers not notice this after 4 years? He's failed the graduation exams twice already and not one instructor has offered to help him at all. He's not even allowed in the village library unless he uses a henge to trick the librarian.

As much as he wanted to get revenge on Konoha, destroying the village is not an option seeing as how not everybody in the village treated him wrong. Sure most people glare with hatred nowadays or insult him verbally. But there are those few who haven't done anything wrong to Naruto.

Still after learning what he now knows, he rather not return to Konoha for a while. Plus how can he get pay back if he's not strong enough to even defend himself yet? Sure he can beat up civilians but that's really saying much.

"I...I..I don't even know what to do anymore. Who the hell can I trust in that village if the one person I trusted the most has been using me my entire life? Hell I didn't even know I was from a damn clan. Everything is just too much to think about right now. Besides I don't have the power to protect myself right now, if the old man notices a change in my attitude towards him, I don't know what he might try against me to put me under his control if what you say is true." Naruto replied.

Yama looked at the boy with a smirk. Some classify it as an it because of the way it looks and the job title. However what most don't know is that the Shinigami is actually a woman. She uses this form of herself to scare mortals for her amusement.

'This boy thinks he doesn't have power? Oh if only he knew of the power he awakened when he placed the mask on his face. I wonder if he can feel his Reiryoku flow through him yet?' Yama thought to herself before she changed her form.

It happened so fast, one second Naruto is looking at Yama, the next a cloud of smoke covers her. Once the smoke is gone, Naruto gasps.

Most of her features were the same, however now she had the curvy body of a woman. Her face is that of a beautiful woman instead of a demonic creature. Instead of spiky white hair, her hair is completely straight going past her lower back. Her height shrunk down to 5'6, standing several inches over the 4'10 Naruto. It always annoyed him with how short he is. Also Yama's teeth were no longer jagged, they looked normal except for the fangs. Though the two white flames still hovered over her shoulders.

"Like what you see, Naruto-kun?" Yama posed for him.

Naruto blushed while saying. "Y-You're a woman! Not that I have a problem with it. It's just shocking to know you have an actual gender no offense."

"None taken," Yama shrugged "it's been some time since I showed a mortal my true form. Sexy aren't I?" She smirked.

"Y-Yeah...you're a very attractive woman Yama-chan." His blush is still visible.

"Oooh so it's Yama-chan now huh? Me and you are going to get along just fine Naruto-kun." Yama smiled happily.

"Ummm not that I mind but was there any reason you changed your form?" The blond asked curiously.

"Other than wanting to see your reaction? No but I do have a question for you. If you had the chance to gain the power to protect yourself from the world, would you accept it?"

"An offer like that is too good to be true, there's bound to be a catch." Naruto replied.

Yama smirked. "Good boy you're smarter than you give yourself credit for. But answer the question directly."

"My answer is yes, I had the chance I would accept it and work to make it mine." Naruto said.

"Then would you accept my help?" Yama asked.

Naruto was caught by surprise. "W-Wait what? What are you talking about?"

"If I were to offer you power beyond your imagination, to help you protect yourself and those you cherish against the cruel world. Konoha isn't the only one who wants you for Kyuubi. There are a few factions who wish to collect the power of a Bijuu. You see Naruto-kun, you're more special than you believe yourself to be. You are actually the reincarnation of one of the sons of the Sage of Six Paths. The one who created Ninshu which later became Ninjutsu. He's essentially the father of chakra. The ones who created all nine Bijuu. His son Ashura Otsutsuki, you are his reincarnation. However even with his power, you won't be strong enough and you won't even achieve it until years from now. Making it useless to you. However you did happen to unlock a different power, tell me did you feel a strange sensation in your body once you put the mask on?"

Seeing his eyes widened, she had her answer. "I see so you did, you see Naruto when I sealed Kyuubi inside of you years ago. I accidentally left a good portion of my energy inside of you. Over the years that energy grew and became a part of you. Making it your own power. You know how chakra is made up of physical and spiritual energy right? Well the energy you're feeling is spiritual energy itself. However this spiritual energy is much more raw, potent and powerful than the spirit energy that it used to make chakra. I've been watching over you for some time to not only keep taps on the Child of Prophecy who is also holder of Kyuubi no Yoko. But I really wanted to see how my power would affect you. Once I learned what it would do, I figured you would start seeing spirits by the time you are either 14 or 15 years old. Thanks to me being summoned, your spiritual powers were forced to awaken. Long story short you are what's known as a Soul Reaper. Death Gods who are not a part of this world. Though I did have a good friend of mine who is a Soul Reaper come here once to build a bunker for me many many years ago."

"...so what's you're saying is that I am one of these Soul Reapers because you left residual energy within me when you sealed the fox inside of me?"

"Pretty much, Soul Reapers are like me, guardians of souls who are going through the circle of transmigration. They purify beings known as Hollows who do evil in the living world. While also ensuring safe crossings for souls who lost their way after death. They have power that the Shinobi of this world dream they could attain. I could tell you on and on about them but I'm just going to put all the information you need to know about Soul Reapers, Hollows, Spirits and so on in your memory. We can talk more about them another time, for now just know that you have the power of a Shinigami of a different dimension."

Naruto could only nod, too shocked to speak. Though this did answer as to why he felt stronger.

"Now as you said you would accept my help if I offered, I'm going to show you the power I'm willing to offer you." Yama said.

The blond suddenly saw visions of a giant man with a white mustache. Said man was using white orbs to destroy everything in his path. He could literally grip the air itself and pull it down to cause destruction. Naruto has never known that a person could wield such power. What makes this even more incredible is that this man looks older than Hiruzen, yet he seems to be so much stronger and scarier than Hiruzen could ever be. The speed the massive man moved at for his size was jaw dropping.

"W-What am I s-seeing?!" He yelled in shock.

Yama smirked. "You're seeing a man known as Whitebeard fight in a war. A war being pirates versus the marines. He completely dominated that war with his power alone. You see, in this world people do not have chakra, they have to fight by using different methods. One of the ways is by consuming a fruit called a Devil Fruit. There are 3 different classes of Devil Fruits, Zoan, Paramecia and Logia. Whitebeard possesses the strongest fruit of the paramecia class. The Gura-Gura no Mi also known as Quake-Quake fruit. It makes the user a Tremor Human, it grants the ability to create vibrations or quakes. This power has been dubbed as the power to destroy the world. Paramecia Devil Fruits allows the user to achieve one of a large variety of abilities that enable the consumers to become superhuman or perform a superhuman feat. Zoans allow the user to transform into another species at will, or an inter-species hybrid. Typically effective in close combat. Logias are the rarest of them all, they allow the users to transform the composition of their body into a natural element at will, as well as create and control it."

Holding out her hand, out of nowhere a fruit appeared in her hand. This fruit looks shaped like a pear but it's white with odd marking across it. Never in his life has he seen a fruit like this before.

"The reason I showed you Whitebeard is to see how his power is used. Why? Because I want you to have the power of the Gura-Gura no Mi." Yama finished.

Seriously how many times can a guy be shocked to the core?

"Why me?"

Yama stared at him with a deadpan expression. "You said you would accept my offer, I'm giving you the power I offered."

Naruto shook his head. "No besides that, I mean you could honestly give this type of power to anybody. Also I'm a mortal, why are you helping a mortal?"

Yama couldn't help but laugh, here she is offering a young boy power and he has the audacity to ask why she is helping him, a mortal. Yep she's definitely going to enjoy being friends with Naruto.

"Well I did tell you I've been watching over you. You have potential, more potential than I've seen in a mortal in a very long time. I'm tired of seeing that potential go to waste because of the actions of a bunch of fools. Plus you're an Uzumaki and me and your clan have always had a good relationship. I will warn you though, because of your newly awakened Soul Reaper powers that you have yet to use. You will pass out once you consume the Devil Fruit so that your body can adjust to the drastic changes. You will not wake up here, you will awaken in the bunker I told you about. I'd rather you not go back to Konoha at least until you can control all of your abilities. Anyways, do you accept my offer?" Yama asked.

"Before I say yes, what are the drawbacks?"

"For your Soul Reaper powers there are no drawbacks really. It's like chakra, once you completely run out of spirit energy you can die depending on how severe it is. As for the Gura-Gura no Mi, well usually Devil Fruits are weak to seawater. The user loses their ability to swim in regular seawater. If seawater past your ankles, the user immediately feels the drain of their strength. There's also a substance called Seastone that drains energy from Devil Fruit users to the point where they cannot consciously control their powers. However luckily for you I took those weaknesses away from all of the Devil Fruits I have in my possession."

"Then what are you waiting for? I accept your offer, can you please hand me the fruit?" Naruto accepted, then asked.

Yama handed the Gura-Gura no Mi to Naruto. "Now before you eat it, I want you to listen to me for a moment."

Naruto gave her his attention.

"You will not be alone, besides myself being around whenever I want. You will be accompanied by two other individuals who will also have Devil Fruit abilities. These two are connected to you in a couple ways. One being as they are linked to your soul as you are linked to theirs. I made you three soulmates with each other. Before you get upset and ask why I did this. The reason being is because I know these two can provide you with the most love and affection that you deserve but never received. Also they will help you revive your clan since they are Uzumakis themselves."

While he would've preferred to handle his own love life. Yama has been very helpful to him so far, so he will continue to trust her judgement. Plus it's not like Sakura or any other girl his age will give him the time of day any time soon. At least as far as he knows. Also if he's not going back to Konoha then he would like some company if he's going to be alone for the most part. Hearing that his so-called soulmates are Uzumakis too did catch his attention.

"Alright I'll trust your judgement Yama-chan, please tell me who they are." He said.

Yama grinned." The ones I chose are none other than Mito Uzumaki, the First Jinchuuriki of Kyuubi and wife of the Shodaime Hokage. Kushina Uzumaki, Second Jinchuuriki to the Nine-tails, Princess of Whirlpool and known as The Red Demonic Terror."

To say he was shocked is an understatement.

"...WHAT?!"

"Y-...You want me to be together romantically with my mother? Wouldn't the wife of the Shodaime Hokage be old?!" He yelled.

"I understand your reaction but think of it this way. What better love is better than a mother's love? And Mito will not be old. She will be the same age as your mother when she died. Both will be 24 years old. And I already know that both of them are ok with the situation. I've been talking to them while I've been here with you. Plus both already knew of what you were going through in Konoha. They are more than willing to shower you with all the love and affection you want. Polygamy is not uncommon in your world, neither is incest. Uzumaki healing factors negate any birth defects no matter how close the parents are in blood relation. Another thing is that your clan is known for living for a long time. It all falls in line with your clan having a very strong life force. Some even awaken bloodlines that can keep them young for however long they wish. Essentially granting themselves eternal youth. While neither Mito or Kushina had this ability, I did grant it to them. Being the Shinigami I can do things like that. For an example if I wanted to I could give you the Sharingan easily or even Hashirama Senju's Mokuton bloodline. My sister Kami has similar abilities, though unlike me she doesn't visit the living world much." Yama answered.

….what can he even say to that? She basically answered every concern he could possibly have. Naruto never would've thought that being an Uzumaki can lead to situations like the one he's in now.

"I...I guess I have no qualms about it if they are ok with it. What Devil Fruits do they have?"

"Kushina has the Mera-Mera no Mi known as the Flame-Flame fruit. It's a Logia class Devil Fruit that allows the user to become fire. Mito has the Hie-Hie no Mi, the Ice-Ice fruit. She's an ice woman. They will be able to assist you in your training as well since it's a few things that they've learned in the afterlife since being dead. You won't meet them until you wake up in the bunker. While you are unconscious, I will be flooding your mind with an influx of information. This is so you don't have explained everything to you and will make your training easier for all parties. So please just trust me to take care of you Naruto-kun." Yama smiled at him softly.

Feeling the sincerity from her, his trust in her increased, he nodded. "Alright I trust you, will I see you when I wake up?"

Yama shrugged. "Don't know it depends on how long it takes for your body to adjust. I have other duties to take care of but I might be there. If not, Kushina and Mito definitely will."

Naruto sighed before nodding. He smirked, this was the first step to becoming a whole brand new version of himself.

Taking a huge bite out of the Gura-Gura no Mi, he gagged in disgust once he swallowed the portion in his mouth. At first nothing happened, suddenly it felt as if a wave of pain erupted throughout his entire being. He didn't even get a chance to grunt in pain before his vision went black.

Before his body could hit the ground, Yama caught him by using her powers to levitate his body. She smiled softly as she gently rubbed her hand against his face.

"Don't you worry Naruto-kun, by the time I'm done making my minor adjustments to your body. You will wake up as a god amongst men. With your Soul Reaper powers alone you would be an unstoppable force. However with the Gura-Gura no Mi at your command along with Haki. Konoha won't stand a slimmer of a chance if they decide to kill you off. Though I do wonder how you plan to deal with the higher ups of Konoha, as they will not let you go easily. They also cannot mark you as a missing-nin since you aren't a shinobi. Your class doesn't graduate until another two years. Hmmm guess I'll have to make sure they have no way of tracking you. Maybe when I blow up your apartment, they'll assume you died. As long as they don't have a scent to track. They won't have any effective way of possibly finding you. For someone of Hiruzen's stature, it was foolish of him to not place a tracking seal of any sort on you if his goal was to have you under his control. Even that fool Danzo Shimura would've thought of that. Oh well I'm sure they'll be shocked the next time they see you Naruto-kun." Yama voiced softly.

With those last words, she and Naruto disappeared from the Uzumaki Clan Temple in a white flash.
