Chapter 59: The Locket

Harry arrived back at Potter Manor, glad the insanity of this school year was over. He told his grandfather's portrait about everything he'd gone though. The painting just sighed.

"What is Hogwarts coming to?" said Charlus, "Honesty, Albus is a fool to think kidnapping students is forgivable".

"Luckily, there's a good chance he'll lose at least some of his positions," said Harry, "I'm not going to jinx it, but I have a feeling that I'm not out of trouble yet".

Harry went down to his cavern to get some rest. The night passed without incident, and the next morning he set out to his next objective: visiting Sirius. He met us with Remus at the Leaky Cauldron, and together they headed to #12 Grimmauld Place.

It was clear that this house was even after nearly a year of work still a place of darkness. They went inside, and immediately Harry's senses were on edge. There was a… wrongness present in the air. This was only added to by the portrait screaming at them.

"Beasts and Blood Traitors infesting my home!" shrieked the portrait.

"What a rude painting," said Harry, "greetings ma'am, I am Lord Harry Potter-Perverell-Gryffindor-Slytherin. And you are?"

The painting just sneered, be before she could begin another rant, Sirius entered.

"Hey there, Harry," said Sirius, "I see you've met my mother, Walburga Black".

"Have you considered moving the painting?" asked Harry.

"Can't do it," said Sirius, "Some sort of permanent sticking charm holding it to the wall".

"Have you tired removing it from the frame?" asked Harry, "either that, or remodel the house and remove the section of wall".

"Now there's an idea!" said Sirius, "come on let me show you around".

As they moved deeper into the house, Harry spotted an elderly house elf glaring at them. As well, he started feeling something here that was tugging at the edge on his perception.

"Not to complain, but this place is still a mess," said Harry.

"I can't disagree," said Sirius, "it's almost like the house itself is fighting me. Honestly, I'm almost ready to tear this place down and completely rebuild the house".

They ended up on the second floor, outside a set of bedrooms. That feeling that was tugging on Harry's perception had grown stronger. It was emanating from one of the bedrooms.

"Sirius, what's behind this door?" asked Harry.

"This was my brother's room," said Sirius, "Regelus and I… we drifted apart after we started at Hogwarts. Why, what's going on?"

"I don't know, but I feel like there's something important in there," said Harry.

They went inside, and found the room decorated in Slytherin colors. Harry went deeper inside, and his senses pulled him towards a dresser. He opened it up and found a locket with the Slytherin emblem on it. He could feel the darkness roiling off of it

"Gloves, please," said Harry.

Sirius handed him some protective gloves. Harry put them on, and carefully picked up the locket. It felt much like that Diary, but there was something else: a spark of his own power had gotten into it and was… degrading the artifact? That was interesting. Remus was looking at him with confusion.

"So, what's important about this locket?" asked Remus.

"Remember that diary I told you about?" asked Harry, "this is the same sort of thing. It needs to be destroyed".

Their discussion was interrupted by a sudden pop as that old house elf Harry saw earlier appeared.

"You want to destroy?" said the house elf, "you can destroy it?"

"Kreature, what do you know about this locket?" asked Sirius.

"Good Master Regelus stole trinket from bad Wizard Snakeface!" said Kreature,

Harry processed that statement, and smiled at Kreature.

"Yes Kreature," said Harry, "I can destroy this thing. I just need enough space to change forms and this thing will burn".

"No problem with that, we'll just use a space expansion charm in the basement".

They headed downstairs, and into a otherwise disused room. Sirius expanded the room, then Harry tossed the locket to the ground and deactivated his limiter. Asulmagus inhaled deeply, and unleashed his Nova Breath upon the locket. There was a screech as the corrupt soul fragment within was destroyed. As the blast of raw energy ended, there was nothing left of the locket.

Kreature looked on at the one who'd help him complete his task. This being, this Asulmagus, he was a truly mighty. Even better, the current Lord Black had chosen this one as his Heir! He of course had heard the whisperings of the Dragon Mage… but now here it was in front of him. Yes, perhaps the new Lord Black was truly worthy of his title.

Harry reactivated his limiter, and they made their way back upstairs. Already the air in the house felt a bit less oppressive.

Elsewhere, Voldemort had summoned his Death Eaters and was now a guest at Malfoy Manor. They had given him his own private section of the manor. Suddenly he felt something within his blackened soul twist painfully. And he writhed at the sudden agony. As he recovered he saw Nagini had been stuck with this same burst of pain.

"What was that!?" hissed Nagini.

"I think someone destroyed one of my treasures," said Voldemort.

There was something more though… ever since his resurrection, he'd felt a bit ill. It was like something was sapping his energy, and now it felt worse. The door opened a crack, and Lucius Malfoy poked his head in.

"My Lord, are you alright?" asked Lucius, "I thought I heard something".

Voldemort glared at Malfoy, knowing that it was due to him that his diary had been lost. He'd processed the fragments of memory that came back to him after the destruction of his Horcruxes. He saw what looked to be the Chamber of Secrets, and a massive blue scaled dragon unleashing its fire upon his diary. He saw the Goblins of Gringotts purging the fragment of his soul from the Gaunt Ring. He saw a chamber within a dark house. Standing over Slytherin's locket was that same dragon, looking even larger than before. It unleashed a beam of blue energy to vaporize the locket.

"Lucius, just the man I wanted to see," said Voldemort, "have there been any reports of strange, giant creatures?"

"That sounds like the kaiju, my lord," said Lucius, "they've been active throughout the world for nearly 50 years now. They have within the last few years been appearing in England: first in 1990 not far from Diagon Alley, and then twice near Hogwarts Castle; once in 1992 and and again in 1994. Both of these appearances have been near the end of the school term. If you wish to know more, I know of book that might interest you".

"Send the book over," said Voldemort, "I will examine it in my own time".

Lucius bowed and exited the room, glad to avoid the ire of the Dark Lord's wand for the moment.

A/N: And there we go! Next time, Harry/Asulmagus returns to Monster Island to discuss the events of his previous year at Hogwarts, and makes plans for what the future might hold. See you then!
