You know my name, not my story. You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through. If you were in my shoes you'd fall taking your first step. Here's my story. Here's what I've been through. Maybe when you finish reading you can take a few steps in my shoes.
But first know this: I never wanted to save the world or leave my home or even fall in love but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Let's start from the very beginning when my aunt came to visit.
"Logan!" My mom called from the kitchen, "your aunt is here! Please come down and welcome our guest."
"Coming Mother!" I called as I got out of bed.
Then I walked down the hall to my little brother's room to tell him. "Hey dude," I said then threw a dirty sock at him, "Aunt Minnie is here so stop texting your girlfriend which you are way too young to have and say hello." He rolled his eyes. "Did I stutter?" That got him up.
He had chestnut brown skin and emerald green eyes. His hair was a brown color with hints of black that was messy and looked as if it was rarely brushed. He had on a green and yellow striped shirt and khaki shorts.
Louis had always been a stubborn kid but he's learned to respect me. I have to take care of him most of the time because mom is always at work and sometimes I have to put my foot down, even if I don't like it.
Since my dad had died two years ago from cancer Mom had been a little busy. She got so caught up in her work that she forgets to take care of us sometimes. So I helped out a lot. Aunt Minnie also gets caught up in her work so really it's just me and my brother.
As Louis walked out the door he shoved me and said, "You're just jealous because you've never even had a boyfriend." He wasn't wrong but it still hurt.
"Just for that I am going to go down stairs and tell Mom you were on your electronics when you're grounded. Maybe that'll teach you not to mock my love life," I said matter-of-factly.
He looked at me, "I am only three months younger than you. You're just jealous because I have a girlfriend."
I stuck my tongue out at him. "You are insufferable."
"Whatever," he said.
"I wasn't kidding Logan! Come here and greet your aunt," my mom yelled. "And get your brother! Oh and make sure your brother isn't playing on his electronics."
I smirked at Louis, "Ha, see you downstairs, loser."
"Wait!" He called, "dont tell Mom."
"And what's going to stop me?" I challenged him.
"I'll—I'll do all your chores for a month." I raised my eyebrows. "Fine," he sighed, "for two months. How's that?"
I smiled. "Much better."
"Seriously! Minnie has got to get back to work and she needs to speak to you both! Get down here now!" My mom yelled.
We raced down the steps. "Aunt Minnie!" Louis yelled. He ran and hugged her.
Once they pulled apart she examined me and I examined her. She had on her usual green robes and black witch hat. Her gray hair was pulled back into a tight bun and her lips were pulled in a tight smile. She carried her matching green bag that reminded me of an old lady (which clearly she was but I didn't think of her like that).
I must've zoned out because Minnie said, "Well, come and give your favorite aunt a hug."
She held out her arms for a hug and I smiled. I hugged her and when we pulled apart she said, "Now please sit you two we have things we need to discuss."
She directed us to the couch and we sat down. "Now as you know I work at a boarding school that is incredibly difficult to get in. I know you two have not taken an entrance exam yet but the school has decided to let you both into the program. If you agree to go you can pack. I will take you both there later today." She smiled.
I was shocked. She looked at us questionably. "Of course! I would love to go!"
"Wonderful!" Minnie turned to Louis, "Louis? Would you like to join your sister at the school?"
"I…um-I— I'm not sure. I can't just leave all my friends." Louis was tearing up at this point.
"Look, Louis, I don't have anything to lose by going but you do. It's ok if you stay here. No one is pressuring you to leave," I assured him.
"Ok, well it's settled then. Logan will go and Louis will stay," Aunt Minnie said.
"Logan, honey, why don't you go pack your things," my mom said to break the tension.
As I got up to pack my things I realized I was forgetting something. "Aunt Minnie? What exactly does this program study?"
Her eyes twinkled as she turned to me and said in a whisper, "Magic."
And with that I turned and went to my room and packed.
