I jumped into action. I may not like her but I couldn't let her die. "Quickly," I told Calynn as I rushed to Gianna's side. "Get someone anyone who know what they're doing. Oh and get Madame Pomfrey." I looked at her. She was just staring at Gianna. "Now! Go!"

"Logan," a tear ran down her cheek, "she's gone."

"No," I said but even my own voice was wavering. "We-we can still save her."

"No," Calynn shook her head. "We can't."

"We must get McGonagall. This is too big and the body will have to be moved."

"How did this happen?" Calynn asked.

"The bigger question is who. Clearly this wasn't an accident. And neither was the attempt on my life. There is a murderer in this castle and I intend to find out who." And with that I turned and left to get McGonagall.

Not long after McGonagall canceled all classes for the day.

"I don't know how this happened but I intend to find out," McGonagall told us as she paced her office. "After I tell the parents of course."

"Please the bigger question is who. This wasn't an accident I can assure you of that," I told her.

"That is a serious accusation Ms. Davison. Have you any proof?"

"Calynn. She was with me. She saw how the slashes on Gianna's chest were almost identical to the ones on mine. Ask her." I elbowed Calynn.

"Yes-" she said then glared at me. "I will admit they looked very similar. And the bathroom was flooded. As all the sinks had been turned on."

McGonagall pondered this in her mind. "Yes I'll think it over. In the meantime you two must be very careful and no wandering about the castle. You never know what could be lurking in the shadows. Oh and Ms. Davison?"

"Yes?"

"Make sure you be gentle and mind when you tell Vanessa her sister is dead."

"What? Why me?"

"Because, Logan you are her roommate. You're closer to her."

"I barely know her!"

"This will bring you closer."

Or farther apart, I thought.

"Now run along. I must inform the parents and that will not be pretty."

"Well that was pleasant," Calynn said.

"My aunt can be very...persuasive. I'm sorry you had to endure that."

"She's your aunt? Well that explains a lot."

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"You act as if you own the school. You act entitled. I was only saying I knew where it came from."

"And I suppose I know where your strong head comes from."

"Fair point."

"Ah the stubborn princess agrees." We laughed which we realized was inappropriate given the circumstances so we went to find Vanessa.
