Sevis, Candrael and their undead army were engaging the last remaining guards between the freedom of Outland and its tyrant. Magtheridon's elite guard however, was not like his other army. They were stronger and faster than many of their fellow demons. Supremus in particular proved to be very problematic as it was just killing the undead army with barely any effort. It didn't even particularly care about the two demon hunters since it can always leave them for later
The other demons even began casting more powerful spells on the two demon hunters which slowed down their movements although it did not last for more than a couple seconds. Both demon hunters channeled their fel fire powers around their bodies in order to cast immolation while at the same time, dodging lightning bolts and fireballs being fired by the warlocks
Deciding to fight dirty, both demon hunters glanced at each other and gave a nod of understanding. With the spectres already being killed moments earlier, the two demon hunters quickly unleashed their demon forms before going invisible themselves, avoiding any spell or attacks from the few doom guards and warlocks. In response, one of the warlocks casted a powerful dispel which revealed the demon hunters' locations but it was too late. Sevis already killed one of the warlocks while another was being beheaded by Candrael
A doom guard quickly fired a lightning bolt which was blocked by Sevis' own and created an explosion which smothered the battlefield. Another warlock tried to use his magics to blow away the explosion but was quickly hit by Candrael's eye beam before a dagger was thrown his way and hit him right in the eyes. Before the smoke could dissipate, Candrael and Sevis used the distraction to quickly move around and pick off the remaining four doom guards and two warlocks
As soon as the last of them fell, a group of undead minions was suddenly thrown towards Sevis, hitting him and disorienting him for a bit. Both him and Candrael looked at where it came from and saw Supremus finishing up the rest of the undead
"Bloody hell." Candrael said as she dodged a rock that the abyssal threw at her. She then fired a fireball at the demonic construct but it merely bounced off. "What in the hell is that made of?" she wondered aloud while dodging the abyssal's own blue fireball
In the meantime, Sevis has already snuck around and tried to behead the construct but it merely made a loud clanging sound. Supremus then grabbed the demon hunter and threw him into the ground. Before the construct could crush the elf alive, Candrael rushed to its head and fired a point blank eye beam. This forced the abyssal back and gave Sevis the chance to escape and take flight while Candrael regrouped with him
"We need a plan. This thing won't go down easy." Candrael muttered but the duo were forced to move around when the construct fired burning rocks from its hands
"Damn it, just hit it at point blank range. That eye beam must have done something if it forced that thing back." Sevis muttered before erecting a fel shield around himself. It prevented the rocks from hitting him but the force of the impact threw him back out the gates
Turning its attention to the only other one left in the area, Supremus made the ground erupt with fel fire burning rocks into the sky. Candrael had the slight advantage by being able to keep out of the construct's range but it was still in Supremus' favor as one wrong movement and Candrael would be grounded. Eventually, that just happened and Candrael was hit by a rock. The impact caused her to grip one of her arms in pain while she was on the ground
Sevis made it back but was unable to move forward because of the erupting ground. Instead, he fired an eye beam. It didn't do anything significant but it did get the construct's attention. Supremus then began walking towards him. To their surprise, another eye beam suddenly fired from behind Sevis and it scored a direct hit on the construct. "What?" he asked and looked where it came from
Candrael and Sevis soon saw the reason why as they saw Allari flying towards them. Getting up, Candrael quickly rushed to the back of the large infernal and unleashed fel energies on it. While it didn't do anything that noticeable, the three could see that it had an effect with their spectral sight. Supremus wasn't given the chance to pry Candrael of its back as Sevis quickly rushed to its shoulders and tried hacking away at it with his blades
While her comrades kept the construct busy, Allari tried to see what the scythe was capable of and tried to channel her power through it. Since the construct had no soul, she couldn't use the scythe's powers to manipulate it but she did find a weak spot. 'Sevis, Candrael, focus on the back of the neck. It's the only weak spot.' she said before quickly rushing towards the dead bodies behind them
'This isn't gonna be easy.' Candrael commented as the construct began shaking wildly to throw them off
'Allari, what are you doing?' Sevis asked when he noticed their comrade stay behind them
'Keep it busy. I'll try to see if I can make a makeshift explosive out of these souls.' Allari responded before firing her own eye beam to aid her comrades. She then quickly used the scythes to manipulate the fallen demons and just a few minutes later, she was able to carve out a soul bomb. Allari then quickly rushed towards the construct's neck. Things did not go as expected when the construct began to slowly overload itself with its own power
"Crap." Sevis noted when he realized that if the construct gathers enough power, it could bring down the entire temple
Things only got worse for them when this also made Supremus far more aggressive and put them on the defensive and began erupting the ground in fel fire. Allari got caught up in the eruptions and was thrown into a wall while Sevis once more shielded himself
Candrael noticed the explosive that Allari dropped and quickly retrieved it before it could be destroyed by the eruptions. 'Sevis, I'm gonna go for it. Cover me.' she said and in the distance, Sevis dropped his shield and fire a small eye beam just to get Supremus' attention and it also stopped the eruptions. Seizing the opportunity, Candrael quickly rushed to the back of the construct and left the explosive on its neck before activating it. Seconds later, the construct exploded and severed its head from the rest of its body
"Finally. I thought that thing would never go down." Sevis panted when the three of them regrouped
Allari then looked at the construct and noticed that it was beginning to charge up power again for another explosion. "Or not." she muttered. The three of them looked at the abyssal and saw that it was beginning to explode again
"Look out!" Candrael yelled but they were thrown away from the blast
At the throne room, waves of energy was flung everywhere. Taking advantage of their numbers, Drak'thul, Velen and Khadgar split up across the room. The archmage summoned multiple water elementals which engaged the pit lord while Velen kept the elementals as healthy as he can. Drak'thul on the other hand fired his fel and shadow magics at the pit lord
Magtheridon, despite being outnumbered, was able to prevent any magical attacks from dealing significant damage by casting a spell that made his own energies swirl around him to block attacks not directed to his front. When Khadgar summoned three more water elementals, Magtheridon responded images made out of fel energy of various demons, mostly doom guards, which engaged the elementals. This allowed the pit lord to focus his attacks on Khadgar
The archmage teleported to avoid the blast. However, he ended up right in front of one of the doom guard images who swiftly tried to kill him. Khadgar was saved when Drak'thul completely destroyed the image and gave the archmage the chance to get to safety
"You alright?" Drak'thul asked when the archmage teleported beside him. Khadgar wasn't given the chance to answer as Magtheridon's voice took over the room
"Not bad. For mere mortals, that was very good." the pit lord complimented while erecting a fel shield when Velen tried to attack him. Magtheridon countered with a stream of fel fire that Velen barely managed to erect a divine shield which absorbed the fel and combined it with holy energies before beign unleashed towards the pit lord. The attack did some damage but did not put Magtheridon down. 'I am fortunate that I am only facing these three. I would not last this long against those elven demons, especially Stormrage.' he thought to himself as he recalled the reports of how easily Illidan killed pit lords by taking full advantage of their blindspot, their backs. While his magics continuously spawned the fel images of his minions and kept his enemies occupied, Magtheridon slammed his spear into the ground
The entire room began to shake as fel energies began to erupt from the ground. Khadgar quickly created platforms made out of arcane energies for all of them to step on. The archmage then summoned more water elementals in an attempt to stop the eruptions. Magtheridon took this opening to throw multiple green orbs into the sky and rained down a firestorm. Drak'thul quickly tried to shield the platforms from the firestorm. This worked in Magtheridon's favor as immediately after throwing the orbs, he began channeling his powers before making unleashing it and completely shattered the platforms
While most of the eruptions have stopped by now, there were still a few of them, one of which Velen managed to shield them all from
"Foolish mortals. You dare resist the Legion even to this day." Magtheridon growled out before looking at Velen. "And you prophet, Kil'jaeden is looking forward for your reunion that has been long overdue." he said with a wicked grin and shot another stream of fel energy. Drak'thul and Khadgar, who were still trying to recover themselves, were hit by this stream and thrown away. Velen was the only one who managed to avoid most of it by countering with his holy energy but was still forced back. "Impressive. You have some decent reaction time for someone who is usually afraid to fight." the pit lord mocked. He glanced at his other two opponents who were unconscious at the moment and Magtheridon then began walking towards the prophet. "Now, it is just you alone. Your Light as abandoned you, your friends are helpless. Give up."
"Never." Velen hissed and blasted the pit lord with holy magics, forcing him back. "Unlike you demons, I value my true friends. They fight by my side and me by theirs." he countered and shot another stream of holy energy, hitting the pit lord
Magtheridon yelled in pain and desperately summoned more fel images to attack the occupied draenei. Unfortunately for him, it was a few seconds too late as Velen had healed his allies. Drak'thul and Khadgar slowly regained consciousness. They took a second to remember what happened and Khadgar summoned more elementals to deal with the demon images
"Let's finish this." Drak'thul said as he added his own stream of fel energy at the pit lord. Khadgar got the message and once he made sure the images were destroyed, shot a stream of arcane energy
The pit lord continued to yell in pain at the combined attacks. He could not even begin to defend himself since Velen attacked him directly from the front while Khadgar and Drak'thul attacked from his sides. Barely able to gather enough magic, Magtheridon managed to unleash a small energy wave which forced the attacks to stop. However, Drak'thul noticed when the pit lord began to gather his power and quickly threw a green orb directly above the pit lord. When Magtheridon finally stopped the energy streams, a powerful fel lightning bolt struck him, creating a small explosion
When the dust cleared, Magtheridon stood there, badly bleeding, tail almost cut in two, his face almost ripped open and one of his wings missing. He was even too weakened to say a word and he slowly fell flat to the ground
"This victory shall send a message to the Legion that we will no longer be afraid of them." Velen declared as the trio walked towards the injured Magtheridon. Their attention was then taken when a massive explosion occured behind them at the entrance to the throne room
"It would but unfortunately for you, this so called 'victory' means nothing." a voice said whose owner took advantage of the distraction. The trio looked back and saw a dreadlord take out a stone from the injured pit lord
"They're going to escape." Khadgar said in a panic but was too late to stop the dreadlord from opening a portal which sucked both demons away
The three of them moved to where the two demons were. "They got way." Drak'thul mumbled
"For now but at least Outland is finally free." Velen said in slight relief that this war was finally over. They went back to investigate the explosion near the throne room entrance. The trio found the injured demon hunters and healed them
A few minutes later, Illidan arrived back at the entrance and had ordered the rest of the undead to loot the temple for anything of any significance that belongs to the Legion. "What happened to Magtheridon?" he asked
"He escaped. An unknown Dreadlord arrived and got him out." Velen answered
Illidan merely narrowed his eyes at this information. 'Strange. Why would the Legion be that desperate to save a random Pit Lord? Is Magtheridon ranked high among the Annihilan heirarchy? But then again, the Dreadlords were quick to flee when Quel'thalas was attacked.' he wondered to himself
"Illidan." Velen called and broke the lich king from his thoughts. "Can I speak with you?" he asked while motioning to the throne room. Illidan nodded at this and followed the prophet inside
"What is it?" Illidan asked
Velen observed the demon hunter for a few moments, carefully analyzing his expression. "Would it be alright if we came to your world?" he asked eventually
"Why exactly do you want to come to Azeroth?" Illidan sharply asked
The prophet merely sighed at this and looked towards the skies. "Many years ago, Sargeras arrived on my homeworld, Argus. Back then, the Eredar and the Draenei were only one race, which was named as the former. In those times, our world was ruled by a triumvirate which consisted of myself, Archimonde and Kil'jaeden. The Dark Titan made us an offer, to join him in his Burning Crusade. Archimonde readily accepted the offer while I had my doubts. The Light gave me a vision on what would happen if we accepted Sargeras' offer, we would be corrupted. However, since we were a triumvirate, the final decision would have to be made by at least two out of the three. Given his enthusiasm, I learned that Archimonde would not be convinced otherwise so that ultimately left the final decision to Kil'jaeden. He was the only one not to be convinced to accept or reject the offer instantly and was weighing in all possibilities. It was at this point that the Light aided me to get my followers off our world and flee. By then, we renamed ourselves as the 'Draenei'." he explained his people's story and looked at the demon hunter, who was listening intently. "Kil'jaeden still had not come to a decision by the time I was gathering my followers and when he learned of my intentions, he was furious and accepted the offer. Since then, we have fled to other worlds only for Kil'jaeden to arrive not that long after in pursuit of us. The Deceiver's chase has resulted in the destruction of countless worlds. As you saw yourself, he had the full intention to include this world to the list of worlds that have been destroyed."
"I understand. There are times when we have to make choices where even those we consider as brothers would not understand." Illidan sympathized with a slight frown. "However, even if you come to Azeroth, it will not change anything. You will still be running from Kil'jaeden and you should know that this will get you nowhere."
"Perhaps but I get the feeling that you will not be content with the Legion attacking and I would guess that sooner or later, you would take your war directly to Kil'jaeden." Velen pointed out
"Why do you say that?" Illidan asked with a slight smirk
"I have received visions from the Light that you will be a valuable ally in this war and also, you did not wait for the Legion to attack and came after their forces in this world." Velen answered
"You make a good point however, that will not be happening anytime soon. I have something else I need to do in my world before dealing with the Legion." Illidan admitted
"Which is?" Velen asked
"I may consider you an ally, prophet, but that does not mean that I will inform you of my full intentions right away." Illidan sharply replied, something that Velen had completely expected and took no offense to which the demon hunter noticed
"That is true but the reason why I would like to join you is because of the state of Outland. It is far too corrupted and many of the Draenei commanders do not think that we will be able to seal off Outland from the Legion. Azeroth on the other hand, is similar to Outland and would be able to provide my people with a haven against the Legion." Velen answered
"Even if I agree to take you with me, I will not let you stay in the territory under my control. You're gonna have to stay in the place where the rest of the mortals are. That would also give you another headache as the Horde is also there. More importantly, whether we become enemies or not will depend on you as I have no business where the Alliance stays, at least in the near future." Illidan said
"That is fine with us." Velen said
"Very well. However, I still want some of your people to seal Outland from Azeroth permanenetly. You said it yourself, the Legion will be able to return and I don't want them to interfere with my business." Illidan reminded the prophet
"I understand. Most of my people will come with you while some of us will remain and build another interstellar ship that will travel to Azeroth once everything we have in Shattrath is ready to be moved." Velen said and Illidan nodded in understanding. The two of them then began walking back to the others. "So, where were you? Given your personality, I would have thought you would want to fight Magtheridon yourself." the prophet asked
"Found a small archive on the second level. I wanted to gather whatever information I could find." Illidan answered and arrived back to the others just minutes later. While the rest of the undead continued their looting, he decided to sift through the memories of the fallen demons, comparing notes with whatever he found in the archive
Shattrath, Six Hours Later
Most of the draenei are already in their remaining ships. To nobody's surprise, Illidan has reanimated a lot of the troops which belonged to the Legion, both demons and fel orcs
"Are you ready?" Illidan asked when Velen finally entered the main chamber
"Yes. Only a handful of us will remain here and travel to Azeroth on our last interstellar ship." Velen anaswered
"And you'll make sure to keep the Draenei safe?" A'dal asked suddenly, the question directed to Illidan
"I never said that." Illidan replied and surprised the Alliance members that were present as they were not with Velen when the two talked about it. "All I said was I would allow your people to come with me to Azeroth. I did not say anything about not killing you although whether or not that will actually happen depends on where you're standing." he explained
"Illidan." Khadgar said, completely tense. "What exactly are you after?" he asked
"Nothing that concerns you." Illidan replied coldly
"Illidan, Azeroth is our home too. We deserve to know what you plan on doing with it." Alleria objected
"Enough." Kayn suddenly yelled out. "The master already said that it does not concern you so don't bother pushing him. You can either stay here or just accept the deal."
This statement pissed off and a few draenei commanders and Turalyon began to take a combat stance. Illidan simply eyed them in amusement. Despite only having Kayn, Mograine and Drak'thul with him, he wasn't that concerned if a fight broke out. From his observations, only seven of the Shattrath citizens were willing to fight over this and like with the Legion, Illidan and his subordinates were not afraid to fight dirty. This was one of the few times the lich king was grateful to Azshara, who taught him to always be observant, calm and calculating. If he was still the same person when he was first recruited to the night elven army, he would have needlessly fought these people. Before the situation could escalate, A'dal released a wave of energy that made everyone surprised as the naaru rarely does that
"There will be no fighting here." A'dal's voice boomed out and there were murmurs going around. "Velen, was this what you have discussed with Illidan?" it asked eventually
"It is and I agreed to it." Velen answered and surprised everyone
"Prophet, why would you risk your people's safety like this?" Turalyon asked incredulously
"Because it is the best option we have." Maraad suddenly joined in, getting everyone's attention. "As it stands now, it won't be long before the Legion would return so leaving Outland is our best option. If Illidan was our enemy, he would have attacked us by now. Make no mistake, he is not a trustworthy ally but there is no need to pick a fight with him when we have the same enemies, the Burning Legion. Fighting together in one battle does not immediately make two parties complete allies but rather, becomes the foundation for a potential alliance. He has agreed to take us to his world, which is what we need otherwise the Legion will simply return again and again until we no longer have the resources to fight them." he declared out and with great reluctance, everyone calmed down
The members of the Scourge were surprised that a draenei came to their defense as they were ready to have a battle if it ever came to it. A tense silence then took over for a few minutes as no one really knew what to say and nobody really wanted to have a fight now
"If that's all then let's go." Illidan said eventually and broke the silence before walking out of the chamber
"Go." A'dal said while the rest of the Shattrath citizens simply stared at the exit. "Keep your people safe, prophet. This is where we part. Your people's safety are now in your hands and may the Light guide you in your path" he said in a soothing voice and everyone present then left the chamber
It only took them ten minutes to arrive in Nagrand, where the gateway opened by the Legion is now surging with power
"My king." Kel'thuzad greeted when a draenei ship landed and Illidan came out
"What have you found?" Illidan asked
In response, Kel'thuzad summoned two pieces of paper. "With his help..." he said, referring to Malygos. "... I was able to create a spell that will be able to permanently close the breach instead of only lasting a few years however, due to how the Legion set it up, it can only be performed on this side if it is to work." he answered before speaking directly to his master's mind. 'The first spell is simply to close the portal while the other one will not only close it but would also destroy this world using all the ambient energies from all the fighting.'
Illidan then looked at Velen who merely stared back. 'I see. Give them the one that doesn't destroy this world.' he ordered and the lich obeyed. "You can check that spell for yourself if it suits you." he said
Khadgar took the spell and within the next few minutes, he began analyzing it for any traps or unwanted side effects. While he was nowhere near capable of opening a portal himself, he has studied a few bits of such spells in his time here. "Surprising. I honestly thought you would double cross us." he said eventually and the undead took offense to that
"So, it will do as what they say?" Alleria asked
"Yes, this spell would not cause any unwanted side effects." the archmage answered and handed it over to one of the draenei who was not coming with them
Velen then looked at Illidan as if in a silent conversation asking the lich king
"Alright. Open the gateway, Kel'thuzad." Illidan ordered. The lich then went through the demon gate and on the other side, he began using the book to widen the breach so that the draenei ships can enter this world
It took a few minutes before on the Outland side of the demon gate, magical energies shot into the sky and revealed Azeroth in a massive tear
"It's ready. Tell your ships to head right through that tear." Illidan said and quickly, the draenei returned to their ships and travelled through while his army passed through the demon gate itself. "Once the tear in the sky is closed, I want you to seal all links between Outland and Azeroth, do you understand?" he asked the draenei who remained who gave an affirmative response
A few minutes later when all the draenei ships have passed through, the remaining higher ups of the Scourge began to return to their world while the tear began to close. Before he passed through, Illidan decided to completely burn the reanimated lieutenants of Magtheridon
"Well, I guess we have work to do." a draenei mage said when the tear was finally gone. Along with a few more mages helping with the spell
Azeroth
On the other side, the draenei were somewhat surprised at what they saw. Alleria and the others have told them that Dalaran was one of the most majestic Alliance cities but instead, what they saw was a giant undead fortress, dead trees everywhere and the land itself dying. To say that the Alliance members that returned from Outland were surprised would be an understatement
"Dalaran..." Khadgar gasped in horror as he observed the city turned fortress
"I know Illidan told us what happened but to see it ourselves is an entirely different matter." Alleria muttered
"Listen, the rest of your Alliance friends are on the lands to the west. On the way there, you might encounter some islands however, if you find some ruins, then you are in the wrong place and you need to keep moving further west." Illidan said
"Can we at least have some time to mourn our lands?" Turalyon objected in irritation
"No. Unlike you, I still have some business to do and I don't want to delay it unnecessarily." Illidan said coldly
"Why you..." Turalyon growled but was stopped when Alleria put a hand on his shoulder
"He's right. We should just be grateful that Illidan even agreed to get us back here." Alleria said even though she herself wasn't too pleased about it and slowly dragged her lover back onto the ship
"You have my thanks, Illidan Stormrage. Until we meet again." Velen said as he was the last one to get on board. The draenei ships then began flying towards the west as per Illidan's directions
When the draenei were finally gone, someone approached them from the trees. "Illidan." Malygos called out and got his attention. "There is something we need to talk about, something I discovered while you were gone."
Outland
A few hours has passed ever since the portal between Azeroth and Outland have been permanently sealed. The remaining citizens in Shattrath have begun moving whatever important things they have onto the last of their ships when suddenly, the land shook violently
What they didn't realize is in the locations where the Legion killed their prisoners before, demonic runes appeared on the ground which were the source of the shaking
"What is happening?!" a draenei in A'dal's chambers yelled when the shaking grew stronger and stronger
It took a few more minutes of violent shaking before A'dal finally realized something. "We have been deceived." he said and before any draenei could ask what he was talking about, the land itself began to sunder once more
Eventually, the shaking became so violent that the entirety of Outland completely exploded, leaving nothing but space dust in where a beautiful world once stood
I did warn that there would be a lot of destruction. Make this the first one on that list
This chapter was mostly about how the Draenei arrived on Azeroth. I'm not particularly sure how that happened in the canon but I made my own version. The Outland arc is basically a mix of the Blood Elf campaign in Warcraft III and the Burning Crusade. Only this time, Illidan was not the one that took down Magtheridon
Aside from the Outland war, I also changed how the Eredar joined in with the Legion. In the canon, I believe that both Kil'jaeden and Archimonde readily accepted but this time, I changed it to Velen's actions led to Kil'jaeden making that choice. Kil'jaeden in the canon always felt that Velen betrayed him but unless I'm missing something, I'm not particularly sure on how someone not agreeing with your choice is considered as betrayal. By writing it like this, Kil'jaeden has an actual reason to feel betrayed as it is portrayed that Velen did not trust him with that decision. It's just a minor change but I wanted their cat and mouse game to be more personal than what was portrayed in the canon
The things about the portals mentioned thus far are all on this story. I do not believe any of them are canon and I did not bother to do my homework. It was just a random thing I added to fit the story and it didn't seem like a bit of a stretch considering how old the Burning Legion is
Finally, I just want to let you guys know that I won't be adding the WoD onwards stuff into the story. I didn't fully understand WoD aside from Garrosh somehow managing to travel back in time while Legion, is well, Legion. I loved the story in that expansion but how it was just doesn't fit with what I have in mind. The BFA one, I didn't understand at all so I'm not gonna include that and I actually don't know much about Shadowlands. However, I will be picking one or two things from those expansions if I find something that fits the story
