(AT THE JEDI TEMPLE)
Obi-Wan looked around to see he was in the Jedi temple's medical wing. A Jedi medic woke him up from his vision, and she was relieved to see him awake.
"Master Kenobi," she said, "I have informed the council about you waking, and they wish to see you."
He nodded to her and asked her something, "How long have I been out?"
"An entire week," she calmly responded.
Obi-Wan stood up and left to change into his Jedi robes. When he arrived to the council chambers to see they were in deep thought only to be broken when they turned to look at him.
"Your seat, take you must," Yoda said to him. So he sat on his chair, "Come before us, darkness has. Warning us, the force is."
"What do we do?" Shaak Ti asked.
"Nothing, we don't know what is causing this disturbance," Mace Windu stated.
"I had a vision," Obi-Wan emitted, "It was from my old master."
"Qui-Gon contacted you?" Windu asked, but was shocked to see him shake his head.
"No my original one," he stated.
(JEDI TEMPLE HALLS)
Anakin
was still worried about a vision he had. He saw the love of his life Padme die. 'What could he do to change this?' He thought he wasn't looking when he bumped into another person and he stumbled to the floor.
The person turned around and helped him back to his feet. It was Ruby who was holding quite a few books, some he knocked to the floor. She went around picking them all up and turned to him.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
"It takes more than a bump to hurt me," he said faking a smile, but Ruby shook her head.
"I mean you look worried and you were obviously distracted bumping into me like that," she noted, "Is something wrong?"
"No, it's nothing," he lied, "What's with all those books?"
"I am researching about laws to help our soldiers," Ruby said, "Padme thought it was a good idea." Hearing Ruby say his wife's name made him break down, Jedi weren't meant to cry, but he just broke down to Ruby's surprise. "Are you okay?" she asked visibly concerned.
"No!" Anakin said choking on his tears.
"Do you want to talk about it?" the girl said with a worried frown.
He wanted to tell her she would not understand, but then it hit him. 'She only joined the Jedi Order relatively recently,' Anakin realized, 'If anyone would understand it would be her, right?' "I need to tell you something, but promise you won't tell anyone?" to his request she nodded. There was no one else in the halls except them, so none could hear what he was going to say.
"I had a vision..." he started, "It was about Padme's death. All my visions come true, this one will be no different."
"Don't say that," Ruby said with a calm reassuring smile, "I may not know much about my mom, but I do know that she always said that the future is never set in stone, but if you believe something is destined to happen it will happen."
"Do you really believe that?" Anakin asked.
"Yes. So it doesn't always work like that, but in most cases it does," Ruby stated, "If you don't mind me asking... How does she die?"
"She dies giving birth," he stated.
"She is pregnant?" it was obviously Ruby was shocked, but she kept her composure. She shook her head saying, "Sorry, more importantly, is she healthy?"
"Yes she is," he replied to the silver-eyed girl.
"Well worrying will only stress her out," she stated, "Stress is a big contributor to many medical issues, so try not to do that. If it is childbirth that is the problem you shouldn't only look at it as just that, science still exists. Well, maybe you could have her do a Cesarean section if it is natural birth that kills her."
"Never thought of it like that," Anakin admitted, he was sort of embarrassed.
"Also if the kids are force sensitive it is best for her not to give birth on this planet where the Jedi can sense her kids," Ruby stated, "Tell her to go back to her home planet so that she can decide whether she wants them in the Jedi Order or not."
"Thank you Ruby, you don't know how much this means to me," Anakin said relieved with an answer.
"Oh you can thank me by using your brain more often," Ruby said, "And also, I want to know about my mother. You said she was one of your colleagues if I remember correctly. No one seems to want to tell me about her, so could you?"
"She was one of our strongest Jedi and also a Jedi Master," Anakin remembered when he first met her (let's just say Anakin was five at the time, old enough to know fear still), "She was with two other Jedi who came to the planet, both of those Jedi were my masters at some point, but she came alone to meet me. She felt a force signature which was me, and when we met she was interesting. Oh no! I have to be somewhere else sorry! I will tell you later!" He ran off leaving a disappointed Ruby.
(HALL OF RECORDS)
Ruby looked everywhere for information about her mother, but she could barely find anything about her as a person. She couldn't help but be a little frustrated at this. She had been searching for months now when she wasn't leading or making a case about the soldiers but found nothing.
Ruby calmed herself and started to look at other files. Her eyes opened wide when she read something, she knew who to ask about her mother now. She excitedly jumped from her chair.
(JEDI TEMPLE COURTYARD)
Obi-Wan was thinking about what the former Jedi Master wanted to say to him, but what could it be! There was so much fire and lava in the vision and it seemed to be a warning of what is to come. Under the Jedi code, he couldn't interfere with the vision, and they had to wait to see what it means. They couldn't defy the will of the force, it was the order in which everything is held together.
He was meditating when he seemed to go back to his vision, a continuation perhaps, no definitely. The caped figure was still there, but the fires that were once everywhere were far smaller and some of the lava had cooled to solid rock. Something was changing the course of what was going to happen and whether on purpose or accidental, it felt like the place they stood had less evil. His dream ended there and he felt that someone was behind him he opened his eyes and turned to see Ruby looking at him from a few meters away.
"You knew my mother," his former Padawan stated, "What was she like?"
"I do not need to tell you that," he stated.
"And I didn't need to drag you out of the ship," she replied.
"What happened in the past is not important and so is family."
"That is where you are wrong," she stated, this made Obi-Wan surprised, "Family is important and that is one place where the teachings are unquestionably wrong."
"What?" he was in shock, "You can't question the Jedi-"
"If they refuse to accept criticism they are fools and are destined to fail," she stated, "That is what happened to my home, and almost all were consumed because of it."
"What..." he didn't know that happened to the girl, he realized he didn't know much about Ruby at all, "What happened?"
"Racism, hate, monsters, fools, and so much more is what happened," Ruby looked on, "We were destroyed from the inside because nobody listened to the people's pleas. Once noble organizations started to become no better than gangs, leaders bringing fleets of warships to other kingdoms, secrets, distrust were all contributors. The same thing happened here, that is what the Separatists are, they are people who were ignored by the Republic and used for money."
"That is-" he was afraid of what she was saying.
"The truth?" Ruby said, "It most certainly is. Here the rich stay rich while the poor suffer. Inner have it good compared to outer and that didn't change. I am not condoning of what the Separatists have done, for they have done horrible and unforgivable acts, but haven't we done the same?"
"So tell me, what is it that you think the Jedi order did wrong?" Obi-Wan asked.
"We should've stayed neutral in this war," Ruby stated, "We are keepers of peace by killing, by being terrible generals, and committing war crimes! Seriously when you say you surrender, you surrender, what happens when troops really surrender? Do you think the enemy will believe them?"
"No..." he started to realize that she was right.
"Many Jedi lose focus on what is important because they seek to be respected and loved because they didn't have anyone for that when they were little," Ruby said, "They didn't get the chance to express themselves, and this bottling of emotions becomes explosive and dangerous. What they teach us is literally just be quiet and listen do not think. We are our own individuals! We are still living things. If we don't have anything in the universe for us, why even fight? The force doesn't control everything, but we treat it as if it cannot be questioned. That makes us only puppets, and I guess my mom realized this. So tell me, am I wrong? What was my mother like."
She continued, "Or maybe to you, what was she like when you were her Padawan?"
