Chapter Summery: Elsa and Anna reveal their relationship to their father.
Disclaimer: I don't own Elsa, Anna, Cassandra or any other Disney characters or locations that appear or are mentioned in this work of fiction, Disney does.
NOTE: It's happening, the reveal of Elsa and Anna's relationship to their father! While this is an important and emotional chapter, it actually turned out a lot longer than I expected, with some surprises I didn't even plan for, but it works. This chapter will come in five parts in total, the second part may be posted within a couple days of this one, but I make no guarantees. Also, this chapter as a whole is my currently last planned chapter, so a chapter 14 might be awhile.
- The following day, Friday 1:07 P.M. -
"We really about to do this, Elsa?"
Elsa and Anna stood outside the door of the library, Anna wore a concerned and nervous smile on her face, which was mimicked by Elsa, who took a deep breath.
"Yeah... the longer we avoid this, the harder it's going to get; and the more likely he finds out from someone else, which can cause its own problems." replied Elsa, before Anna took a deep breath.
"Alright, let's do this."
The sisters smile at each other, before Elsa opened the door and the two walked in, seeing their Father, Agnarr, standing in front of them about three yards away, facing the wall of books to their right; His attention soon turns to them upon their entrance.
"Hello girls." greeted Agnarr with a smile as he walked towards them. "I'm very curious what you have to tell me."
Elsa and Anna both gave a nervous smile and Elsa gestured with her left hand towards the couch near the middle of the room.
"I'd like you to sit for this father."
"Alright." replied Agnarr as he walked to the couch and sat, while Elsa and Anna stood in front of him, both were clearly nervous, before Elsa took a slow, deep breath and an equally slow exhale, before she spoke first...
"Ok, so... how do I say this..." began Elsa, she had rehearsed what she intended to say earlier in the day, but standing in front of her father now, she was drawing a blank, she felt her heart thumping in her chest. "Umm... commented Elsa, before she closed her eyes with a groan. 'Come on! I can tell the Northuldra and Arendelle the truth, but THIS is the hardest one?' thought Elsa, before she felt a hand on her right shoulder and looked to see Anna smiling at her, before she looked ahead to their father and spoke...
"Y-Yanno, ever since the Eternal Winter, Elsa and I have been really close; You've probably noticed it."
'Thanks Anna.' thought Elsa with a smile, before Agnarr smiled as well.
"I have." he answered. "It's good to see you two haven't lost the love you have for each other since we've been gone and the separation we put you two through."
Elsa and Anna both gave a little nervous chuckle following Agnarr's remark.
"Y-Yeah..." replied Elsa. "No love lost here."
Agnarr then stands and steps towards his daughters and places a hand on their shoulders with a smile.
"I can see whatever it is you two want to tell me is hard for you. Whatever it is, it'll be ok."
Following a small smile and sigh, calming her racing heart some, Elsa lifts her left hand up to her fathers on her shoulder.
"Ok..." comments Elsa.
Agnarr looks to Anna with a smile, who returns it, before patting their shoulders and returning to sitting on the couch.
Elsa briefly lowers her gaze, falling to her left hand and the ring on her finger, before she lifts her hand.
"The ring I have..." started Elsa, before Anna added, as she lifted her right hand to reveal her ring...
"T-That 'we' have."
Anna's reveal prompted a wide-eyed look of surprise from Agnarr...
"Oh... I didn't notice you had one too." commented Agnarr, before he smirked. "I'm surprised you managed to keep quite about your fiancé." he added, which prompted a nervous chuckle from the sisters, before Anna added...
"Well, about that... these rings weren't given to us by men."
The sisters hearts raced following the remark and saw a look of surprise come to their fathers face.
"Oh..." replied Agnarr, before he chuckled and placed a hand over his face briefly, which prompted a curious glance from Elsa and Anna before Agnarr continued... "Don't tell me your mother and I just jumped to conclusions and you said yes out of pressure? Did you two simply buy the rings?"
"N... No..." replied Elsa, smiling nervously, before clearing her throat. "Ahem... the rings were given to us, just... not by a man."
Rather than surprise, the sisters saw a look of curiosity come to their fathers face, before he asks, rather plainly, given the only other option...
"So, it was a woman?"
Feeling their hearts threatening to burst from their chests in nervousness, both answered in unison...
"Y-Yeah..."
"Oh." replied Agnarr casually, however the sisters saw their father briefly avert his gaze in a moment of thought, before his eyes widened and returned his gaze towards them. "... O-Oh." he added as the realization hit.
Elsa averts her gaze and comments...
"Yeah..."
"Well..." states Agnarr. "I certainly wasn't expecting that..." he adds, before briefly darting his eyes to each sister. "Both of you?"
"Y-Yeah..." answered Anna, before she averts her gaze and adds, "You're probably disappointed in us now, right?"
"W-What, no!" gasps Agnarr, before he stands and places a hand to both of his daughters shoulders again and smiled. "No, no, no! The only disappointment I have is heir-wise. In regards to you two though, I'm not disappointed at all; shocked yes, but not disappointed. I'm happy that you both have found love and I still love you both; that will never change." he added, before pulling them both into a hug.
Elsa and Anna were both surprised by the reassuring words of their father, expecting worse. Both smiled and wrapped their arms around their father and asked, "Really?" while Anna added...
"You're not mad?"
"Of course not!" answered Agnarr, before pulling away from the two with a smile, before Elsa gave a relieved sigh and commented...
"Well that's one worry taken care of."
"I'm glad you two told me you like women." stated Agnarr, before he looked to Elsa. "Sorry for assuming you had a boyfriend, you too Anna; I likely made you both uncomfortable."
"Thanks." replied Elsa. "But you don't need to apologize for that, how were you supposed to know my partner was a woman?"
"Same here." added Anna.
"Alright then." replied Agnarr. "But I do have a question: I don't know if you'd consider it rude but, are you two attracted to men at all?"
Elsa and Anna both chuckle at the question and Elsa answers...
"I wouldn't be opposed to a boyfriend, but I currently have a girlfriend which I have no intention of breaking up with."
"Same here." added Anna. "Well, the not breaking up part. I can see a guy being attractive, but I'm committed to my girlfriend!"
"Well I'm glad you two were able to share this with me." replied Agnarr. "I can only imagine how nervous and stressed out you both have been. You'll have my support and I want to meet these woman."
Agnarr's ending remark prompted nervous smiles to the sisters faces and they glance to each other; they hadn't actually come out with what they intended to reveal yet.
"What is it?" asked Agnarr.
"Uhhh, well..." started Anna. "Our gender preferences isn't the only thing we have to tell you."
"Y-Yeah..." added Elsa. "It's WHO are girlfriends are."
"Oh, alright." replied Agnarr. "Well I want to know anyway." he added, before Anna comments...
"You should sit for this Father."
Agnarr returns to sitting on the couch before Elsa adds...
"Our girlfriends are royalty, by the way."
"Y-Yeah!" stated Anna with a smile. "Elsa's is a princess and mine's a Queen."
"Wonderful!" replied Agnarr with delight. "What kingdom are they from?"
"Ehh..." replied Anna with a nervous smile, before she and Elsa glanced to each other and Anna answered... "Well, they're really close."
Elsa then took a deep breath, before wringing her hands as she meet her fathers expectant gaze.
"Ok... our girlfriends are... each other."
With the secret said and out, Elsa and Anna both clearly looked tense and worried with how their father would respond. Agnarr's immediate response was amusement, a chuckle. However, moments in, Agnarr's amusement ended as he saw his daughters obvious worry remain on their faces and he looked at them curiously, raising a brow.
"Wait... you... you're serious?"
The question prompted dread to rise in Elsa and Anna; unlike revealing they had girlfriends, their father looked utterly confused and looked at them oddly, clearly in disbelief. They instantly knew this was not going to go as well as Agnarr finding out they liked women. Anna was the first to answer, lowly...
"Y-yeah."
The sisters see their father frown before lowering his head in his hand, rubbing his forehead for a moment as a sigh left him.
"You two..." started Agnarr, before he lifted his gaze to his daughters, still looking nervous. "Are together, romantically?" he asked, in disbelief.
The confused look and tone of Agnarr's question, as if what he was just told was utter ridiculousness felt like a jab to the heart in both sisters and Elsa could only repeat Anna's earlier answer...
"Yeah."
Agnarr lets out another breath before standing and walking away from them, a hand returning to his forehead as he walked back and forth in front of the sisters, pacing as he processed the information he just learned.
Meanwhile, Elsa and Anna both silently reach out their hands to each other as they saw their father pacing in front of them and they both thought; maybe it wouldn't be as bad as they thought, their father didn't yell at them or even look upset, just shocked and confused; maybe he just needed time, maybe...
A tense, long minute passes of Agnarr pacing, Elsa and Anna standing in nerve-wracking anticipation and fear of what their father would have to say; small flakes of snow had begun falling around them, shortly before Agnarr's pacing stopped. Standing directly in front of them, his arms crossed over his chest and a hand under his chin, the couch between them before he turned his head to them and his gaze fell to their joined hands, before lifting his gaze to his daughters nervous faces.
Agnarr wore a slight frown, but he didn't look angry, appearing to be studying his daughters, before he spoke...
"...And this isn't a joke?" he asked. "I want to be clear on this; You consider yourselves a real couple?"
Elsa briefly averted her gaze as a frown came to her face, her fathers question irked her greatly, questioning if they were a 'real' couple. Elsa though felt Anna's hand, now warming up in hers, tighten before Anna's answered...
"Yes, we are a couple."
The sisters see their father look at them curiously before lowering his gaze in a moment of thought, before he walks up to the back of the couch and faces them.
"Does anyone else know about this?" he asked, which Anna answered...
"The castle staff knows; The majority of them support us."
"They do?" asked Agnarr curiously, clearly not expecting such an answer. "Then what about the townspeople?" he adds and Elsa answered this time...
"We were told they suspect our relationship. Aside from my stylist, who respectfully voiced her disapproval, we've had no negativity so far."
"We haven't made an official public announcement yet..." added Anna, before she gave a little smile and attempted to lighten the tense mood by commenting... "But we're apparently not very subtle, hehe..."
While Anna manages to bring a smile to Elsa's face, she fails with her father, who briefly lowered his head with a heavy sigh, before returning in front of the couch and sits, before stating...
"Firstly, I still love you both; that hasn't changed, I just want to make that clear."
The sisters exchange worrying glances, before Anna asks...
"But?"
"You two liking women is one thing, I can handle that; we have allies whose daughters likes women, so this isn't much of an issue..." replied Agnarr, before gesturing with a hand to Elsa and Anna's held hands. "But this... I'm sorry..." he adds, shaking his head. "I can't support this. You're sister's for God's sake!"
Their father's answer now given, both sisters were crushed. No support from their father; tears brimmed their eyes as the light flurry thickened a little and Anna's anger-induced heat faded to nothing, while Agnarr sighed as he saw the thicker snowfall and the sadness on his daughter's faces.
"We love each other." stated Anna, as the tears fell; however, Agnarr sighs and shakes his head.
"You're confused, both of you are. This wouldn't have happened if we didn't separate you two."
With their father's first comment, the snowfall immediately stopped, as Elsa's left eye twitched, but she held back her anger and let her father finish, before she took a breath before commenting...
"You're right, Father. Our relationship likely wouldn't have developed as it is now if this had happened differently." stated Elsa, before she lifted her and Anna's held hands. "This is how things happened though and I don't regret my relationship with Anna." she added, before turning her smiling gaze to Anna, who smiles back. "I love her as both my sister and my girlfriend." stated Elsa, before she turned her gaze back to her father. "I know it's 'wrong', 'taboo', 'sinful', but I don't care. I will continue to love Anna in any way she's comfortable with."
Anna looks to Elsa with delight, her sorrowful tears replaced with ones of delight.
"I second everything Elsa just said!" declared Anna, looking to her father. "We are fully committed to our relationship!"
"Really?" asked Agnarr with a sigh, briefly placing a hand over his face.
"Yes." answered Elsa.
"Then why have the people suspect your relationship?" asked Agnarr. "Why not announce it, why the wait?" he asked, which prompted Elsa and Anna to fall silent and appear unsure, lowering their gaze, before Agnarr continued with a little frown, "Because you know this is wrong. The Queen and Princess of Arendelle should not have an incestuous relationship."
"I've..." started Elsa. "I've already said I don't care about our relationship being wrong. Besides, we've been told that many of the citizen's support us."
"Then why not make it official?" repeated Agnarr. "You hear, they suspect, it's all rumor. Something like this shouldn't be a rumor about the Queen and Princess."
"We're not ready for that yet." answered Anna.
"Why not?" asked Agnarr. "You two evidently intend to marry each other, as utterly ridiculous as that is." he adds dismissively.
"Hey!" gasped Anna as she began to get angry, however, Elsa interrupts...
"That's not entirely true; we never actually proposed, our rings aren't engagement rings, well, not really."
"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Agnarr. "Then what do the rings represent?"
"They're promises." answered Anna. "Or... more intent really."
"They're meant to convey we would like to marry." clarified Elsa, however, Agnarr did not look impressed.
"Doesn't sound very 'Fully committed' to me."
"We are!" declared Anna. "We just aren't ready for that next step yet, it's... too soon." she added, shyly averting her gaze.
Following this, Agnarr raises a brow in curiosity before asking...
"Actually, how long has this been going on?"
"Well..." answered Elsa. "It was about two weeks after the Eternal Winter that we agreed to our current relationship; so... a little over a month now."
"A month?" asked Agnarr with a smile, before chuckling and shaking his head in apparent relief. "Then there's still time to fix this."
Following Agnarr's remark, both sisters look on in utter shock and Elsa was the first to gasp out...
"What!?"
Followed by Anna angrily declaring...
"There's nothing to fix! You don't have to agree with our decision to have a relationship, but it's not something that needs to be fixed! If you can't deal with this then you can... y-you can..."
Despite her anger, Anna's statement died off, she couldn't exactly tell her father he could leave, however, Elsa added...
"Anna's right, you don't have to agree with our choice; although we'd like you to, but you've clearly voiced your disapproval and stance. Anna and I have no intention of changing our relationship. We understand that our relationship will bring negativity as well as positivity; we will face it together, eventually I hope you can face it with us as well."
After a moment, Agnarr sighs and stands, facing his daughters, Anna looking at him with anger and a frown while Elsa seemed determined to face whatever he had to say next, standing her ground.
"I love you both." stated Agnarr. "But I can't and will not support this. I fear if we continue this discussion, emotions will continue to rise and we may say something we regret. Let's stop here and resume this later..." he added, before looking to Anna. "When we've calmed down."
"Why bother!?" declared Anna angrily. "There's nothing more to discuss!" she added, before Agnarr frowned.
"Do not yell at me, I have not yelled at you so I expect the same in return."
The comment prompts Anna to cross her arms over her chest with a pout, before a small sigh leave Agnarr, however, Elsa comments...
"Ok Father, we can resume this later."
"Wonderful." replied Agnarr, before Elsa steps towards him and hugs her father.
"Even though we disagree, I still love you too, Father."
"Thank you, Elsa." replied Agnarr, before they pull back and Agnarr offers a hug to Anna, who simply turns her head away with a frown, before Agnarr sighs and leaves the room.
Moments after the door closes, Anna groans and stomps her foot.
"Ughh, why!?" declared Anna. "Why does Father have to be one of the people who don't support us!? We live together, so we'll see each other all the time! Ughhh!" she added, before sitting on the couch and covering her face in her hands, before her anger began to deflate into sorrow as a realization hit. "We're gonna have to do this again with Mother too! Other people not supporting us is one thing, but I don't know if I can handle Mother and Father being against us." she added as she began to cry.
"It's going to be fine Anna." replied Elsa as she sat to Anna's left and placed her right hand to Anna's left thigh.
"You don't know that." muttered Anna, lowering her hands from her teary face and down to her lap as she looked down to the floor.
The remark prompts Elsa to pause, briefly averting her gaze.
"You're right." replied Elsa. "But, what I do know: is that as long as we're together, we can handle anything." added Elsa, with a little smile as she took Anna's left hand in her right. "The Eternal Winter, the event with Vivian, Izzy- though that one was a misunderstanding, but I still think it counts; then the whole Enchanted Forest/Ahtohallan event. Whether we're stressed, facing life and death or even wanting to give up, we've been there for each other and that isn't changing now."
Following a sniffle and wiping the tears from her eyes, Anna looked to Elsa with a little smile.
"Yeah... you're right." commented Anna, before she averted her gaze. "But this one is so personal. I can't believe Father said what he did; it makes me so mad! Our relationship doesn't need to be 'fixed' and we're not confused."
"It was a big shock to learn what he did." commented Elsa. "We just need to be patient, he may come around."
"And what if he doesn't?" asked Anna. "What if he actually tries breaking us up, or separating us again?"
"I won't let that happen, I promise!"
- Meanwhile -
Closing the door behind him, Agnarr let out a sigh, before he overhears Anna complaining in aggravation, then the concern of having to repeat the discussion with her mother, before Elsa attempted to calm Anna and Agnarr lifted a hand to his face a gave a heavy sigh.
'Utterly ridiculous.' thought Agnarr. 'Gay is one thing; not great, but options are still available; but incest is too far, unacceptable!' he added, before walking from the door and towards the stairs to the second floor. 'Thankfully their supposed 'relationship' is recent, so this can be corrected; the sooner the better.'
'Hmm, I could introduce them to other princess' who are also into other woman from our allies. Show them there are better options for a romantic partner than each other.' thought Agnarr as he walked down the hall. 'Or maybe even a few princes, maybe they're just confused, thinking they like women just because they see each other as girlfriends...' he thought, before stopping and sighing as he lifted a hand to his forehead. 'I don't think they'd take either option well... but it's for the best. The longer this goes on, the harder it will be to have them see reason.'
As Agnarr walked the halls, he met a few servants and a guard. Aside from a greeting, Agnarr didn't linger for conversation, though did think of Anna mentioning that the majority of the staff support them.
'So the staff all knows, but it's not unanimous support; that's reassuring. Yet the citizen's are left to suspect.' thought Agnarr, before he turned down a hall and nearly walked into Isabelle.
"Oh, excuse me, Your Majesty." commented Isabelle as she quickly stepped back.
"My apologizes, I was lost in thought." replied Agnarr.
"It's alright." stated Isabelle, before she gave a little smile and a slight bow of her head, before stepping aside and offering Agnarr to resume his walk.
Agnarr only took a step forward, before pausing and looking to Isabelle curiously, who returned the curious look, tilting her to one side.
"Your Majesty?"
"Isabelle..." stated Agnarr turning to face the handmaid. "You're close with Elsa, correct?"
"Uh, well, recently our relationship has moved more towards friends. Heh, we're not quite Anna and Elly close though."
"Hmm, so do you know of their relationship?" asked Agnarr.
"Hmm? Anna and Elly?" questioned Isabelle.
"No, Elsa and Anna." clarified Agnarr. "The relationship they've had for the past month."
"Oh..." replied Isabelle, before her eyes widened. "O-Ohh... so they told you?"
"So you know?" asked Agnarr.
"Yes, I do." answered Isabelle.
"Do you support them?"
"Yes, fully." answered Isabelle with a smile.
"Why?" asked Agnarr with a raised brow and crossing his arms over his chest.
The question prompts a look of curiosity from Isabelle.
"Uh, why not?"
"They're sisters."
"Oh!" gasped Isabelle with a little chuckle. "Heh, right. Well, they're happy together; That's really all I want for them, especially with what they've gone through. Everyone just wants to see them happy; If being in a romantic relationship is what makes them happy, then I'll support them one hundred percent."
Agnarr sighs and lifts a hand up to his forehead briefly.
"I want them to be happy as well- of course, but I can't support this."
"Y-You don't support them?" asked Isabelle, looking quite surprised and curious. "Why? Did you tell them that?"
"Yes I did." answered Agnarr. "I don't support it because it's wrong. No one should be in a romantic relationship with their sibling; It's disgusting and I'm shocked that the staff here support it."
Following Agnarr's statement, Isabelle briefly averts her gaze, before meeting the King's and replying...
"They're hurting no one though and Her Majesty promised not to let her relationship negativity affect her duty as Queen."
Agnarr sighs and lowers his gaze.
"I don't doubt that Elsa will strive to do her best as Queen, but their relationship is unhealthy; not only for Arendelle, but for them as well."
Isabelle also sighs and averts her gaze.
"Perhaps, Your Majesty. However, attempting to separate them will do more harm than good. I'm sure you realize this."
"They'll resist at first, but it's for the best." stated Agnarr, before Isabelle shook her head in disapproval.
"They need each other. I can understand your surprise and even disapproval of their relationship, but is it really worth it to bring added stress and worry upon them so soon following your return? You'll be driving a wedge between yourself and them that you may not be able to remove."
Hearing Isabelle's words, Agnarr is silent for a moment, considering the Handmaids warning; it had only been three days since his return, the Kingdom wasn't in disarray, and everyone was happy, Arendelle was possibly in a better state than he and Iduna left it. Agnarr gave a heavy sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You have a point." stated Agnarr. "We were unexpectedly absent for three years of their life, after separating them for much of the important years of their life. That's plenty of time for things to change." he adds, before sighing and returning his gaze to Isabelle. "I can't support their choice, but I can still be there for them and hope this is just temporary." he adds, before shaking his head and chuckling. "Heh... This has to be a phase; They've been together a month according to Elsa and they've already given each other rings, even a normal couple doesn't move 'that' fast." he states, which prompted a chuckle from Isabelle.
"Hehe, yeah, they're certainly moving fast."
"I'm glad I decided to talk with you." stated Agnarr. "As much as I wanted to fix this, a patient approach is probably best. Anyway, how did they reveal their relationship to the staff? They said you all know."
"Ehh, w-well..." replied Isabelle as her face reddened some with a nervous smile. "Let's just say, they're not very subtle in their evening affections."
A momentary look of surprise comes to Agnarr's face, before he cringes and places a hand over his face.
"They're actually..."
"Hehe... yep."
"Then, last night..." commented Agnarr, as he recalled his embarrassing meeting of Anna, a sex toy in each hand.
"What about last night?" asked Isabelle.
"N-Nothing." replied Agnarr, shaking his head of the memory and it's implication. "Thank you for your time." he added, before departing back where he came from, while Isabelle smiled and commented...
"Alright then..." before she added lowly, "I hope everything works out."
Returning to the library and stopping in front of the door, Agnarr could hear that his daughters remained in the room, Agnarr knocked on the door.
"Elsa, Anna, I-" commented Agnarr.
"Go away!" declared Anna angrily on the other side.
"I haven't come to berate you two. I've had a moment to-" stated Agnarr, before he hears Elsa on the other side quickly comment, to Anna he assumed...
"Anna no, wait."
The door then swings open and Agnarr is greeted with an angry Anna, glaring at him.
"I'm not speaking to you!" stated Anna, before she walked pass Agnarr, who felt a wave of heat move by him following Anna.
"Anna!" called Agnarr as he watched his daughter walk away without another word and run up the stairs, before he returned his gaze to Elsa, who, while not looking as furious as Anna, still looked upset. "Elsa."
"Now's not a good time, Father." replied Elsa, before walking by Agnarr and following behind Anna.
With both of his daughters unwilling to speak with him, Agnarr placed his hands to his hips as a heavy sigh left him.
To be continued...
