Thank you, Hannah .grahamlecter, for your hard work and dedication. You've done a great job as Beta-reader on this and I am extremely grateful. Now that you're finished checking the rest of the chapters, I'm the one catching up!
If you care to leave comments, reviews, or constructive critiques, I'm gracious about it (I promise). I know not everyone will enjoy this story. And there are always better ways to say something, and there are parts of the story that could (and should) be cut out. I get that, but how will I know if the readers don't tell me?
I appreciate those who have given me so much praise, ideas, and constructive reviews. Scoofuls, Szzlebtch, ElleAtGW, knothead, DragonGecko18, LolaD, Bethany, Kelly, IGDAF, and several other guests. I'm sure I've forgotten someone (and am sorry for that).
To all, as always, please enjoy the story.

Chapter 55 - Tiny Bubbles
Spencer woke with a jolt, from the first weird dream he'd had in over a year. He dreamed the baby was born blue. Not blue from the lack of oxygen, but painted, like the members of The Blue Man group. Attributing it to the normal stress of being an expectant parent he had read about it in numerous books on pregnancy, specifically sections dealing with impending parenthood. Still waking up, with his arm over her, he realized he couldn't feel his hand; it was tucked between Susan's belly and the bed. Carefully, he eased it free, curling and wiggling his fingers, as the circulation returned.
He smiled, as Susan woke up. "Good morning Sweetheart." They lay there a few minutes, smiling with their hands on her belly. It felt like fluttering. "We should start getting ready for your OB check-up." She turned onto her back and stretched her legs out, with her arms up over her head. As she brought her arms down, she turned onto her side facing him, her hands settled on his chest. He kissed her. "One more kiss… two more… and we need to get up and take a shower, so we have enough time for breakfast."
Susan whispered softly in his ear, "Yes, Doctor," nipping on his earlobe and kissing down his neck. Sixteen weeks along, she was no longer nauseated after every meal, and managed to gain three pounds since the last check-up. And her sex drive seemed to be stuck in a level above high gear, with no sign of slowing down. He wasn't complaining.
He groaned. "Hmm, any more of that, and I can't be held responsible for what happens. We can always do more of this later."
She purred against his ear. "So you know, Lover... there's no internal exam today."
He grinned, holding her snugly. "Oh, yeah… we have time…"

Susan pulled on a lavender sundress, braided her hair, put on a pair of socks, and went downstairs to the front door, sliding her feet into her shoes. She found Spencer drinking his coffee in the kitchen,
"Mmm, something smells good."
He had scrambled eggs and sausages ready on the stove, two plates on the counter, as well as two glasses of water, a protein shake, and Susan's bottle of vitamins. He leaned over and kissed her. "You look adorable."
"Thanks. I'm starting to look pregnant now." She went to the fridge, took out a yogurt, and set it on the counter, by her plate. "Hey, Lover… wanna fork?"
"How else am I going to eat?" Turning around, he saw she was leaning back against the counter, smiling enticingly and he grinned. "Ahh, fork. I get it. Spoon me and I'll fork you. Your brother was right, you're a loveable, kooky weirdo. It's one of the things I love most about you." He chuckled and kissed her again with his arm around her.

Dr. Hansen was at the hospital performing an emergency cesarean, so the physician's assistant, Anisha checked Susan's weight. Her blood sugar levels, Anisha said were fine, but her weight gain was too low. Feeling Susan's abdomen, she estimated the size of the fetus.
"This is disconcerting. Your baby is unusually small for 22 weeks. We should do more testing, to find out why."
They looked at each other, stunned. Susan shook her head. "That's not possible. During my appointment four weeks ago, Dr. Hansen said I was 12 weeks along."
Anisha glanced at the tablet. "No, Mrs. Reed, this says 22 weeks."
Susan held her hand out. "May I see that please?" She studied the information on the screen, as Spencer read it over her shoulder.
"It isn't my file. This says MaryAnne Reed, not Maria Suzanne Reid."
Anisha left the room and came back a minute later. "So sorry about that; the wrong file was loaded. You're correct; 16 weeks. The fetus is the appropriate size. Do you have any other questions?" Neither did, so after Anisha went out, Susan changed back into her clothes.
Susan held her hand to her belly. "Ooh, it feels like little bubbles. Fluttery tiny bubbles." She smiled brightly as Spencer bent over and kissed her little baby bump.
On the way home after picking up lunch, Spencer absentmindedly turned onto Park. He put on his blinker, to turn right at the stop sign at Oak Street. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to where I was going. It's a good thing you checked the file… I mean… otherwise…"
"Spencer, I've never lied to you; I'm not that kind of person."
"I know that. And I trust you."
Neither of them noticed the car following them, as Spencer turned the corner onto Tulip Street.

Read Chapter 28 in Side Stories for the conclusion. I'd say the title, but that would give it away! (so I won't). Let me know what you think.
