Oranges and Blueberries

Chapter One

Plunged into Humanity

"Justice my ass!"

Grimmjow was searching desperately for a pitiful lunch in a garbage disposal with only one arm. One arm couldn't help him that much when digging through mush. He can't find anything edible for his growling stomach. Grimmjow cussed in a raging tantrum while tossing black bags to the side and kicking whatever was in his way.

"That blind bastard can take his 'Slaughter for Justice' and can cram it up to his ass!" Grimmjow yelled his frustration only to hear it echo inside the dirty garbage disposal. Thanks to him, I'm a worthless human! Dammit! The ex-Arrancar cut himself with a split soda can.

Knowing his efforts were hopeless, Grimmjow gave up with a bleeding hand. Sitting against the garbage disposal's corner, he calmly cussed in mumbles while ripping his ragged clothes. His tight teeth held the torn cloth while his left hand grabbed the end and quickly wrapped around it.

The rumbling of his empty stomach pissed him off. Hunger and pain was a human's weakness. Clenching and opening his hand repeatedly, Grimmjow couldn't believe he was bleeding like a human. The shred was quickly soaked within seconds. And then he moved his hand to lift his shirt, and Grimmjow did not see the symbol that made him a Hollow. The hollowness was replaced with flesh, guts, and blood. Grimmjow was disgusted at himself. That bastard ruined me. He had the audacity to say I was useless in Hueco Mundo when he was blind. I could have done more than him.

Grimmjow thought how he got here in the first place. He led a small group of Espadas that were murdered by the shinigamis. His punishment for losing his men should have ended with his arm being cut off, but no… Tosen convinced Gin and Aizen to do the unbelievable. Tosen explained that he wasn't worthy of being the Sixth Espada nor worthy of any powers. Not even the lowest powers from a hollow.

Aizen made the final judgment. He didn't know how it happened; he just remembered waking up in an alleyway. He remembered he tried to fly that day. He lost his simplest power. A power that felt second to breathing.

He heard garbage cans being knocked out violently. Grimmjow was very still. There were alley thugs with bats outside looking for homeless people. Two nights ago, they found him, and for once, he was powerless. He had a sea of bruises and cuts on his body. Grimmjow waited until they left. He felt nauseated until he opened the lid. Rain poured onto his head. He looked up and opened his mouth to drink the droplets.

Suddenly Grimmjow heard something munching on food. He quickly turned his head where the sound was coming from. Further away from the garbage disposal was a mutt eating a leftover turkey leg laid on crumbled newspaper.

"Holy shit, that's mine!" Grimmjow exclaimed. He jumped right out of the disposal and ran crazily at the dog's meal.

The skinny mutt with brown and black spots immediately noticed him. The dog snatched the half-eaten turkey leg swiftly and ran away as quickly as it could. Grimmjow then sprinted after it wildly.

The dog led him to the middle of the street. Grimmjow ignored the loud bustling of the cars and honks from it. However, one car was coming at him very fast.

"Fuck!" He almost got ran over like roadkill.

After jumping on the car and off quickly, he actually produced tremendous speed to chase after the mutt. The dog led him to the end of the street and into a dead-end alley.

"Give me that leg!" Grimmjow snarled furiously.

The dog cowardly backed away against the brick wall with the turkey leg tightly in its mouth while growling. Grimmjow lunged towards the dog viciously. The mutt barked and then yelped weakly when Grimmjow gripped its neck and squeezed it slowly. The starving human, who was so determined to get the puny scrap for survival, seemed to vanish from his priorities. Struggling against the dog with only one hand renewed his lost pleasure of inflicting pain. The cruel action on the poor dog gave him the feeling he used to get when he hurt his enemies. Dominance. It was like a rare aphrodisiac he barely got as a human until now.

What stopped him from killing the mutt was a small sound of puppies barking and whimpering at him. Grimmjow stopped his hand from strangling the dog but kept a firm grip. He turned his head and saw three puppies barking at him, one whimpering and two others licking the leftover leg.

"Stupid mutt has babies. Just great." Grimmjow muttered bitterly.

Being almost road-killed and taking pity on a stupid dog's pups will not help me survive in the Living World. I'm going to end up in Soul Society if I keep up with this shit.

Grimmjow was pondering over this matter while entering Karakura's Downtown. Unlike him, street dwellers had their colorful umbrellas protecting them from the hard pouring rain while enjoying themselves.

I hate seeing humans this happy. It makes me want to rip out their mouth with my bare hand.

The Karakura's Downtown had humans going in different directions. Some were shopping. Others were heading into work. And some were heading home. The concept of 'home' was foreign to him. Hueco Mondo was a place he lived in, but it wasn't home. At its bare necessity, it was shelter, and he needed one. He begged in one corner, but no one was giving him a single yen.

Grimmjow got up to move to another corner, and then he paused in front of a television store. He was watching the current event. Humans were talking about global warming in one screen. On another screen, it spoke of wars in the Middle East. Hmph. Sounds like humans are already doing Aizen's job. They're just killing themselves. The last screen talked about the significant concerns of North Korea nuking Japan and then reporting a story about illegal North Koreans being captured.

Grimmjow started to look for a decent spot. He kept walking in the rain while it poured hard against his back. I'm fuckin' hungry. His steps were starting to become more massive overtime. He didn't know if hunger or the rain made him slower. No, I am not going to stop.

He leaned against a wooden fence and kept walking. He struggled to keep on standing, but he persisted.

I am not going to die like this. Not like this. He staggered off the fence and kept going until he was leaning against a light pole. I am going to get my vengeance. If I have to do the whole fuckin process again, I'll do it.

He slowly slid down the pole until he was on the wet asphalt. His blue hair covered his face. I didn't even have the chance to face the Ichigo kid…..Fuck, this is the end for me. He was feeling his consciousness slipping away.

All he could see through the grey pouring rain was a warm light coming closer and closer to him. It was welcoming. When the orange light touched him, it was gentle. He never felt this before: dead or alive. It was a wonderful feeling. Is this what a human sees right before they die? A pretty shadow?

He reached out to the light, and it accepted his shaking hand. His eyes flickered. His vision was getting blurry. Soon the raindrops were turning black. Black dots covered his vision until it was completely black except the light. It kept glowing. He wasn't sure if it was there to guide him to Soul Society, or it was there to stay with him until he vanished from existence. He just held on to the light.

I wasn't planning to have this as my first Bleach story but life takes turns, u-turns, and dead ends that led me to Oranges and Blueberries. I hope you readers enjoy the story. I wanted to say a lot of cool shit but I have no strength whatsoever. Maybe I do...

First, I wanted to turn Grimmjow into an exiled human because I want to see him out of his element or his comfort zone. He is not strong as an Arrancar, but still possess a strong physical strength as a human and mentally still has his fighting spirit, which I demonstrate in my writing. However, as a human he experience weaknesses as a human such as starvation and unable to do things because he is now a homeless human. Unlike being an Arrancar, he can't do jack even after he tries.

Note to all readers, this will help so you can foreshadow, what are humans and what do they do as they live? Grimmjow is going to experience whatever a human experience in its life, well not all of it or maybe he will...hmmm
