Harry Potter sat in the headmaster's office with none other than Pansy Parkinson. Both were trying to figure out why they had been called here and why the other was present. The old man behind the desk stared at them both quietly before speaking up.
"Mr. Potter. Miss Parkinson. Thank you both for coming. Lemon drop?" He offered. Both shook their heads wondering if he'd get to the point now. "Very well then. Straight to the point I see. It has come to my attention that both of you have entered Hogwarts wearing glamour charms. I will need you to drop these charms immediately as it is not permitted." Both students looked rather shocked by the news.
"May I ask why professor," Harry inquired, doing his best to remain calm.
"It's not fair to the other students plus as I said it is not permitted. It also seems suspicious to hide one's true self."
"What if dropping the glamour would do more harm than good? I'm not sure about Potter but I wear mine to protect myself. I have ever since first year," Pansy spoke up.
"Same on both accounts," Harry agreed.
"Exactly and it's time you dropped them. You are entering your fourth year. Surely whatever it is can be dealt with so you don't have to hide yourselves," Dumbledore informed them.
"With all due respect Professor, I'm afraid that's not possible."
"Why is that my boy?"
"First off being in the public eye, it would do more damage than good. Secondly, I am not your boy. While I appreciate your concern headmaster, my answer remains the same and that is a no."
"The same goes for me Professor," Pansy spoke up. Dumbledore sighed as he looked at the two students unified.
"I'm afraid I must insist on such. Also Mister Potter you will not be granted a private room this year. You will be moving in with the other boys in your year."
"Actually headmaster, that power is only given to the head of house. They alone may grant or take away, private student housing. That is what Professor Snape said. He gives his rooms to those in Slytherin who have extremely good grades...and Malfoy." The last part was said in disgust.
"Figures," Harry mumbled under his breath then he thought about how Pansy had referred to her "darling Draco" as Malfoy and filed it away for later. The headmaster having no further alternative at the moment dismissed them to rethink his plan of attack. As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Harry turned to Pansy and had to know.
"Can we talk for a moment and no I'm not asking you to drop the glamour or anything. You can even hold me at wandpoint if it will make you feel better." She raised an eyebrow and then nodded as they stepped into an empty classroom. He quickly transfigured a couple desks into some comfy chairs and threw up some privacy wards. He took a seat in one of the chairs and motioned for her to sit. He held out his wand to her as a sign of trust that he just wished to talk but she shook her head so it disappeared back up his sleeve. Carefully Pansy took a seat across from him and looked at him.
"What can I do for you Potter," she asked with a hint of curiosity to her voice.
"Well first off I wanted to thank you for standing up to the headmaster about the private rooms. I would have been in trouble if I had ended up in the dorms with Ron and Seamus."
"Why's that?" Harry looked nervous, like he'd given away too much information.
"It has to do with my glamour," he replied before continuing on. "Secondly I have a feeling you don't care for Draco any more than I do."
"Probably less to be honest. What of it?"
"I was just wondering… If you really dislike him that much, why go to the trouble to flirt with him and hang off of him."
"One because it annoys him and two because it's a good way to keep myself safe from the rest of the school." Harry thought about it for a moment and nodded.
"It's brilliant really. Though I don't know that I could pull off the acting like you do. The thought of even being close to him makes me nauseous."
"It's simple. I don't look at him while I eat...or for 30 minutes after," she replied with a grin causing him to chuckle.
"You know…you don't have to hang out with him. There are plenty of people left in the school."
"Yeah but you know how people are about Slytherins. It's rare to make friends outside of the house."
"Not that rare. You made one today and Draco darling is sure to love it," Harry grinned, causing a smirk to appear on the face of Pansy. "My friends call me Harry by the way."
"And mine call me Pansy. At least I'd like to think so."
"Well then Pansy, how would you like to shake up the school AND annoy Malfoy at the same time?"
"What did you have in mind?"
"Perhaps we start slowly by being friends, then we shake things up by crossing house limits. It would be easiest if we got the other houses involved too but I'm willing to start by taking down the Slytherin-Gryffindor wall if you are."
"My you sure seem to dream ambitiously Mister Potter. How would you like to start by pairing with me in potions tomorrow? I think both our grades are bound to improve if we're not stuck with idiots. I mean unless you enjoy your potions exploding…" Harry smiled.
"Not particularly. It sounds good then. I look forward to shaking things up with you then. I can't wait to see the look on Malfoy and Snape's face."
