Chapter 10

It was the week of the sports festival, and yesterday was the day that his older brother met Sasagawa Ryohei. Tsuna talked all about it yesterday. How he made friends with Ryohei and how he had a heated battle that made the boxer ignite the fire in his eyes.

Usagi sat beside Isago in science class, as all her friends started whispering about the two the moment the team experiments began.

"Tweezers," Isago asked with an extended hand as Usagi passed it over. The dead frog was in front of them as Isago cut open the stomach, all of its intestines slipping out as Usagi peered over with an interesting look.

"Not going to play with your group anymore?" Isago said without looking up from the experiment. Usually, Isago had problems deciding who to pick out of everyone who wanted to be his group partner, but Usagi came in today morning and pulled his arm, stating to everyone that he was booked for the rest of the month.

Of course, all the other people whined, the boys wanting to leech off of Isago and the girls just wanting to be in the same group for various other reasons. Usagi was neither one of those though. Her grades were above average in class, not to mention that science was one of her best subjects. Isago knew because he had noted down her rankings at the beginning of the school year when he had this strange feeling about this girl.

"I decided that it was best to leave the fakes," she stated simply before Isago rotated turns, giving her the tweezers. Usagi poked with the utensils, ripping the heart apart into small pieces with a cute smile.

Ruthless, wasn't she? Isago was liking this girl more by the moment.

"Really? Not going to regret it even if you're left alone?" He smirked, taking off his gloves and writing down the answers to the worksheet that his teachers had prepared for him.

"That's why you have to take responsibility, Isago," Usagi didn't tear her eyes from the frog but her smile grew into a slight grin. "Invite me out for lunch today."

"We're not exactly close enough to do that, you know?" Isago leaned on the table, watching her every move as his golden eyes flickered to the clock. They had lunch right after this period.

"You told me to give you space, so I'm asking for your time-am I not?" Flashing Isago an irresistible smile, her nose sniffed the air as the group beside them started wheezing from cutting open a bladder.

Isago chuckled, crossing his arms before glancing at the clock again. Basically, the girl was asking if he would skip class with her. Forty minutes was barely enough to order at a nearby cafe and eat. Not to mention the way she asked...he appreciated her actions that didn't go against his own schedule.

"Get ready, I'll be waiting at the gates," he said.

With that, Isago picked up the finished lab report and handed it in at the front desk.

They sat at a Japanese restaurant located at the end of Namimori's market. It was actually close to TakeSushi which was where Yamamoto's dad worked. After placing their orders, Usagi sipped her water through her straw, a coat of red lipstick marked its way onto the plastic as her eyes flickered from the glass.

It was amusing because ever since she confessed to Isago, she had changed her style to be a bit bolder. In the past she would wear bunny hair ties and have her uniform all proper and neat, hiding her fingers in her sleeves as she talked with the boys, giggling from time to time.

But now there was a bit of red eyeshadow and red lipstick, making her overall makeup look brighter and more confident. Her dressing also changed. Instead of sticking to the school uniforms, she wore a middle-sized sweater over her shirt. Her leggings also went all the way up to her knees, unlike the socks that she wore which seemed like she wasn't even wearing any in the past.

"So," she started. "I've heard that you're aiming to graduate early."

Isago slightly tilted his head, wondering how in the world she had gotten ahold of that information. She smiled, shrugging as if to hang Isago on the edge.

"Middle school is too easy for me, to be honest. I'm also planning on taking the advanced curriculum tests that give me a direct high school diploma." Isago gave her a lopsided smile, as her eyes flashed a bit of recognition.

"When do you plan on taking that test?" Usagi took a sip of her water again, crossing one leg over the other.

"Around this December," Isago answered nonchalantly. "Why? Are you planning on taking it too?"

Usagi pursed her lips, tapping her finger onto her cheek as she swirled the straw in her cup.

"It depends," she paused. "If we ever cross the line as just 'acquaintances,' I would be considering it."

"You'll have problems if you want to take it that early, Usagi."

"And by that time I'll be expecting my future boyfriend to help out, no?"

The server came by and dropped their meals, the guy smiling widely at Usagi but she paid no attention to him. Isago lifted his chin, studying that she was quite the player in relationships. Has she been in a relationship before?

"How many people have you dated?" Isago asked as Usagi held up both her hands to form a zero. Her fingers were surprisingly short compared to his. Her nails were also kept well, plain without a single trace of nail polish.

This girl was becoming more and more of his type. But Isago was only 14-well, all Japanese people started dating early. Not a really good example to follow, but something told Isago that if he were to get into a relationship with Usagi, it would work out.

Definitely, they were compatible in personality. But the question was, if Isago actually had time to be in a relationship when he was trying to become the boss of a mafia group. Not to mention even if he did date her, it would be without feelings. It was honestly too dangerous to be whirling a civilian into his problems, not to mention he was already risking it when he was out with her. Who knows when Reborn would be peeking through the glass and determining if Usagi would be a worthy wife for the leader's brother.

"My words stay the same, Usagi. You might regret it if you come too close to me."

Her eyes blinked, smiling playfully before pointing to Isago's parfait.

"And you said that I would be surprised if I found out your taste in food." Usagi shook her head, giggling. "I thought you liked to eat stinky fish or something."

Isago made a face, dipping his spoon into the fruits and felt the ice cream on the top melt. Instantly, it placed a smile on his face.

"I can decide for myself. Don't tell me you're one of those guys who think girls can't do the same thing as men."

"Of course not," Isago smirked, thinking of his past life. "I have high standards for my partner. They must be someone who can solve their own problems."

"I'm glad we agree!" Usagi's lips lifted as she dug her spoon into her pudding.

They chatted some more before finishing and Isago paid the bill. Usagi was stunned mid-way since in Japan, everyone paid for themselves even if it was a date between a male and female. Well, that was partially because in Japan, the pay rate was extremely low compared to the high prices of foods.

Not that Isago cared because he had a heavy wallet not to mention his dad was rich. The blush on Usagi's face was apparent but Isago ignored it and continued on, opening the door for her and guiding her to wherever she wanted to go.

The sports festival came as fast as lightning, Hibari held his promise and announced the increase of awards. Isago's whole class was fired up like a professional team as they got into a class circle and did a chant.

"Who are the victors!" Isago shouted into the circle as everyone hollered out class 1A's name. "Alright! Do your best and don't look back!"

With that, the class dispersed, going towards their own events as the cheerleaders jumped up into the air, playing the song that Isago gave them.

"AAAANNND, CLASS 1A IS REALLY HEATING UP THE FESTIVAL!" The broadcaster hollered into the mic as every parent's head turned towards Isago's direction and clapped. In the distance, Isago could see his family on the grass and waving at him. Lambo was jumping up and down before he scurried towards Isago's tent.

Isago chuckled, jogging slightly to the baby and placing him on his shoulders as Lambo cheered with his hands on top of Isago's head. Tsuna was with his own class, gulping nervously as Gokudera said something that caused the colour on Tsuna's face to slip away.

"Yay! Yay! Isago! I wanna play!" Lambo pumped his feet against Isago's shoulders. Isago took Lambo towards his side of the tent while Usagi came up to Isago, wearing her orange cheerleading costume. She was a bit too skinny for her own good.

"Ooh! Isago's girlfriend?" Lambo snickered.

"Soon," Usagi winked, placing her hand on her jutted hip and turning to Isago. "How do I look?"

"I like how you tied your hair," Isago lifted one hand off of Lambo's legs, caressing Usagi's pink ponytail which was fluffy and a bit curled. Usagi's smile widened after he said that, pecking him on the cheek and leaning back with an uneasy look, hesitating if that was the correct thing to do. Her cheeks were pink but her eyes were firm before she grumbled, finally not able to bear the weight of waiting for Isago to say something and ran off.

Isago laughed before Lambo poked his cheeks, pouting a bit.

"Isago! Isago! I wanna play!"

Isago checked his watch and made a note of the 300-meter run starting in 5 minutes.

"Okay, give me two minutes!" Isago patted Lambo's legs before heading over to the staff and talking to them about his little brother, Lambo. They allowed it, surprisingly. Isago then asked a few of his classmates to secure Lambo on his shoulders, giving Lambo the end of Isago's headband straps.

"Players for the 300-meter run, please head up to the race tracks!"

"Okay Lambo, hold the strap tightly, okay?" Isago patted Lambo as the child gave an excited fart. Isago held in a smile before making his way to the front, jogging slightly to feel the weight and air difference with an extra human on his head.

Lambo pulled the straps, cackling on top of his head and bumping his legs on Isago's shoulders.

"Oh? What's this? Class A1 is carrying a baby while racing?!"

He heard Tsuna's worried shriek before getting buried into the crowd. Isago grinned, sending an 'okay' sign with his hands in Tsuna's direction, hoping that his brother had seen it. Behind him, he heard his class cheer at Isago, chanting out his name louder than ever before the fake gun was shot in the air.

Isago instantly dashed forward, both hands pumping left and right before straightening his posture to make it easier on Lambo's body. Lambo yelled, cheering with his hands gripping both the strap and Isago's hair. Although Lambo yanking Isago's hair hurt, Isago held it in, transferring the pain into his legs as he made his way through, passing the third and second person and playing himself first.

"Hahahahaha! Lambo is the fastest!" Lambo waved his left hand in the air. The instant Isago felt Lambo's hand loosen, his own hands flew up, clutching Lambo's legs to ensure his safety, slowing down a bit until Lambo placed his hands in Isago's hair, and Isago went faster.

Honestly, at this point Isago had already created a 60-meter distance between first place and second place, so it was okay even when Lambo forced him to slow down.

"Faster, Isago! Faster!" Lambo kicked his legs as Isago endured the ripping feeling of Lambo's small fists. At least Lambo didn't rip his hair, but it was enough to almost rip it out. Isago decided to finish this fast.

He bulleted to the finish line, crossing it with no difficulty as his class screamed at the sight of victory while bringing a baby. Usagi at the side of the cheerleading group jumped up as Isago made his way back into the tent, panting as rolls of sweat-drenched some of his collar.

"Isago! That was fun! So fun!" Lambo yipped, adrenaline still in his blood. "Again! Again!"

"Lambo, we won first place!" Isago instantly changed the topic and pointed to the scoreboard, 30 points added onto class A's amount as Lambo's eyes widened like bowls.

"Lambo's number one! Lambo's number one!"

Isago lifted Lambo off his head, grinning as he spun the baby in the air as Lambo squealed for more.

"Lambo you're number one!" Isago piped along as his classmates laughed, knocking him on the back.

"What the heck, man!" A classmate nudged Isago in the rib and Isago hunched over dramatically and made a sour face like he had taken the damage. Everyone around him laughed before he placed Lambo on his shoulders again, using his free hands to clap.

"Let's do our best and show them what we've got!"

Isago returned Lambo back to the picnic blanket that his mom, Bianchi, and Reborn were sitting on. There was food and snacks all over the picnic area and Lambo started to stuff his face with the onsen cookies that mom had brought with a request from Reborn. Lambo's face was all puffed up, red glowing on his cheeks before he ran off to the other children on their picnic blankets and hollering out his greatness.

"Ciaossu, Ragazzo. Well done," Reborn smirked as his student grinned back, realizing that the hitman was wearing a kimono. His hair was spiky, smothered in gel as it stood straight in the air like a rocket launcher.

'Damn he has a large wardrobe,' Isago thought as he caught Lambo from his run and placed him on top of mom's lap, kissing her on the cheek before Isago waved and joined his own class again.

Events went on as class A1 lost their first match to Ryohei, the sun guardian screaming 'extreme' at every obstacle corner before bolting out until he rammed into the finish line.

"Don't mind, don't mind!" Isago patted his classmates who were sweating bullets, wheezing as they took the bottled water from Isago's hands. "Good job! You almost had it there!"

"Sasagawa's a monster!" The male panted, plopping down onto the floor as Isago chuckled, tossing them a towel.

"Don't worry-next is the relay race. I'm confident that our class can win," Isago turned to the relay team who wore confident smirks. "Who's ready to smack some butt!"

They all raised their hands up before going out into the field as the cheerleaders pumped up their spirits. Most of the noise originated from Isago's tent, some classes sighing at how lucky they were to actually have their girls form a cheerleading team.

'It's working, it's working,' Isago snickered, liking all the reactions from the other classes as the chants from his own side grew louder after they heard other people admiring them. Borrowing the speakers from his teacher's hand, Isago shouted.

"Do your worst, speedsters! Show them what you're made of!"

With that, the race shot off.

And in calculation, class A1 won.

Reborn felt Bianchi's eyes tear away from Isago, then flicker onto Tsuna who was at the side whose teeth were chattering in fear for his event.

"I don't understand," Bianchi sighed slightly, shaking her head. "Why on earth would the Ninth choose that boy as the successor?"

Reborn fell quiet in his thoughts as mama played with Lambo at the side. The noise around the whole school was pushing for class A1's victory.

"I believe it's because the Ninth believes that his ambition might destroy Vongola," Reborn sipped his tea, feeling the breeze in his hair as he turned towards Tsuna. "The successor has not been confirmed yet."

"You mean the Ninth's decision may change?" Bianchi's eyes widened, asking Reborn.

"No, Tsuna will definitely be the Vongola leader and Ragazzo will be the one after him. But Ragazzo's ambition will lead him into a war with his brother in the future. He's not the type to sit back and do nothing."

Reborn clicked his tongue at his own words, realizing the weight behind them. Bianchi shifted on the blanket, slowly gazing at the two brothers.

"Then should I get rid of Isago before he becomes a threat?"

"No," Reborn said.

"Let the stronger one survive. Not to mention," his lips curled up like a cat. "I believe the two will not break apart that easily."
