Hiccup felt as if his world snapped when he saw Astrid jump back from the impact of the bolt in her chest. Time slowed as he watched her look at him before slowly falling to the ground, landing with a thud. All the noise around him seemed to fade away as he watched her lay on the ground. He sprinted over to her and quickly knelt down as he took off his helmet.

"Astrid," he called in a frantic tone as he lightly shook her but he got no response. He gently removed her helmet and saw that her eyes were closed. "Please, please," he said softly as he felt tears start to build up. He looked at where the arrow hit her and felt relieved when he realized it didn't hit her heart. He also saw the small rise and fall of her chest and bowed his head when he realized she was still alive. He felt the light drops of rain on his head and it eventually led to a much harder rainfall. Once he calmed himself Hiccup gently picked up Astrid and moved her over to a nearby tree which provided some coverage from the rain. Once he was sure she was alright he slowly stood up and turned around to face Jack and his crew.

He felt a sudden rage boiling in his blood now as he stared at the men in front of him. Hiccup has been angry before, but now this was pure rage. All the noise seemed to be drowned out now as he focused his eyes on the people in front of him.

"I had a feeling it was you," Hiccup heard Jack say and he looked up to see the man almost have an impressed look on his face. "The way you acted in the pub, I was sure you were the Dragon Master."

"You should've stayed home," Hiccup told him with a bit more bite to his voice than normal.

"And why's that," Jack asked with a smirk on his face.

"Because you're going to suffer a worse fate here than what you will in hell," Hiccup told him. He saw a few of the men shuffle their feet, uneasy and antsy by his words.

"I'll enjoy killing you," Jack told him as he motioned to the men to his left and right. The men slowly nodded and Hiccup waited as he watched the two approach him from opposite sides. He kept his sword at his hip and watched as the two drew their swords. The man to his right charged and Hiccup lunged forward as he threw a quick punch at his throat. The man stumbled backwards and Hiccup turned to face the other man who raised his sword at him. Hiccup dodged the strike and ducked down to the man's left. He kicked the man in the stomach, causing him to lean down and then he brought his knee up, a loud crack filling the area. The man dropped his sword as he grabbed his nose which was gushing blood. Hiccup raised his arm and with one click on the button a dart flew into the man's neck.

Hiccup didn't have time to wait as he heard the other man coming back towards him. He picked up the sword from the ground and raised it to deflect the other man's strike. He moved forwards and slid on knee before popping up and stabbed the man in the stomach. He heard the man grunt as he stared Hiccup in the eyes as the life faded away from his. Hiccup pulled back the sword and the man fell to the ground with a thud. Hiccup picked up the other sword and turned to face the remaining vikings in front of him.

"Who's next," Hiccup asked as he held out the swords and looked through the crowd. Jack looked back and made a gesture with his shoulder. The remaining men with crossbows all took aim and fired several arrows at Hiccup. He managed to dodge most of the arrows but he had to raise one of the swords up to deflect a stray arrow. He heard a loud thud as the arrow split in two and the two parts landed in the dirt beside him.

"Don't just stand there," Jack yelled, "Get him." Three more vikings slowly approached him and Hiccup smiled to himself as he saw their hesitancy. They decided to take a different approach and all moved in one pack this time. The one in the lead finally made a move as he swung his sword at Hiccup's neck. He raised one of the sword's to block the strike and pushed back on the blade. With the other sword Hiccup slashed at the man's thigh which caused him to drop to one knee. He didn't stop there as he kicked the man in the chin and moved onto the other two who stood and watched their comrade be taken down. Once they realized they were Hiccup's next target they both readied their swords. Hiccup advanced on the first person and quickly struck at his hand with his sword.

The man dropped the blade and Hiccup turned around to face the other viking who tried to take out his legs with his sword. Hiccup jumped over the strike attempt and lunged forward with one of the blades, going right through the man's chest. He heard the other viking come back again so he readjusted his grip on the second sword and thrusted it backwards. He heard the man gasp for air and he looked back to see that he caught the man in one of his lungs. Hiccup pulled the blades back and stood up as both of their bodies fell to the ground. He turned to the first one he took down and saw he was coming back to reality. With one quick thrust Hiccup stabbed him in the chest and the man was motionless in seconds. He turned around to see the men with crossbows moving to reload another arrow and he raised his arm again.

He fired four bolts and all of them found their targets as four more men dropped to the ground. Hiccup now counted ten people in front of them and they seemed to notice how quickly they were losing numbers.

"See what you did to these men," Hiccup called out as he gestured to the bodies around him. "This could have all been avoided if you just stayed home."

"What I did," Jack asked and then he laughed in a cold, sickening way. "I'm not the one putting the blade in their chest, their blood is on your hands."

"The man who leads people to their death is as guilty as the executioner," Hiccup told him, "You will not be spared when your fate is decided." Hiccup watched as Jack became more angered but he didn't say anything back. Four more men approached Hiccup, this time going two and two on either side of him. Instead of waiting for the vikings to get close enough Hiccup made the first move. He pulled his arm back and threw one of the swords at the lead viking to his left and then did the same to his right. The two men dropped and the remaining two paused as they watched the other two fall to the ground. They finally came back to reality and looked back at Hiccup who didn't hesitate. He ran towards his right and feinted one way which caused the man to shift his body to that side.

He quickly changed his direction and Hiccup managed to get behind the viking without any trouble. He wrapped one arm around the viking's neck and raised the other at the man across from him. He fired the dart which soared through the air and into the man's neck before he applied pressure and broke the other viking's neck. As the remaining bodies hit the ground Hiccup turned to face the remaining six. "I'll give you this chance to leave, to anyone that wants to see their families again." Jack's posture did not change but the other five men all seemed to consider his offer. They looked around at the bodies around them and then each other before they threw down their weapons and turned around to head back to the shore.

"Cowards," Hiccup heard Jack say in an angered tone as he continued to watch Hiccup.

"You have one last chance to leave," Hiccup warned, "Because we both know how this is going to end."

"Death is better than fleeing," Jack said as he drew his sword from his belt.

"It's your funeral," Hiccup said with a sigh as he drew his sword as well and extended the blade. The area filled with light as the sword ignited and Hiccup slowly approached Jack. The two circled each other for a few seconds before they both charged forwards. The sound of metal hitting together filled the area and the two stayed locked in place as they tried to gain an edge on the other. Neither seemed to back down and they pushed off of each other but Jack took a heavy step towards Hiccup. Hiccup saw Jack's plan and easily sidestepped the attack and countered with a quick jab at his forearm. Jack grunted in pain but didn't show any signs of stopping as he quickly recovered. Jack moved in with a high strike and Hiccup quickly rolled in the dirt before popping back up to hit the larger man in the gut.

Hiccup moved behind him as Jack slowly stood up as he held a hand over his stomach. He quickly realized that although Jack was bigger than him, he was a much worse fighter. He seemed to only rely on his muscle's more than actual technique. Hiccup didn't wait as he stepped forward and slashed at his hand that was holding the sword. He dropped the sword and Hiccup stepped forward with his blade extended. It caught Jack in the thigh and the large man dropped to a knee. He reached for his sword but stopped when Hiccup held his sword to his neck.

"Go ahead," Jack told him after a few seconds of silence, "You know what happens next." Hiccup didn't say anything as he pulled back his arm and collapsed the blades. "What are you doing," Jack asked angrily, "Do it."

"You don't deserve death," Hiccup said in a cold voice, "You can suffer with your defeat." He then turned and walked back over to Astrid.

"I'll just keep coming back," Jack told him, "I come back to kill you and that bitch." Hiccup stopped in his tracks when he heard Jack say that. The large man started to laugh and Hiccup felt his blood boil.

"On second thought," Hiccup said, "That Nightmare has eaten in a while." He then raised his fingers to his mouth and let out a low whistle. A few seconds later the sound of branches cracking came from behind Hiccup. He didn't turn around to see it happen but he heard Jack yell out and then it was cut off. Hiccup walked over to Astrid who was still breathing slowly and seemed to be in a mix of conscious and unconscious state.

"What's going on," she asked as Hiccup crouched down next to her.

"Don't worry about that," he told her, "You just stay alive for me." He picked her up bridal style and readjusted his grip so she was comfortable. He saw her open her eyes enough to look at him and she smiled.

"What world are we in where you're the one worrying about me," she asked with a small smile.

"Look who is all full of jokes," he told her as he walked over to Toothless who was hiding under a few trees. Astrid remained quiet as they slowly managed to get in the saddle with Hiccup still holding onto her. She got his attention as she wrapped her arms around his neck and he looked down at her.

"I love you," she said softly and Hiccup felt as if the wind got knocked out of him. He slowly smiled and leaned down to kiss her.

"I love you too," he said as he leaned back up, "Now let's get back home."

It had been a week now since the night that Jack had arrived and Astrid was finally getting better. She spent most of the day in bed, mostly sleeping throughout the day and night. After the first day she wanted to try and get up and treat the day like normal. However, Hiccup did not let her get up and made sure she was well rested. After the third day she finally stopped arguing with him and stayed in bed. She was grateful that he was there to help her and take care of whatever she needed. Although he did seem a little bit distant at times, almost like he was hiding something. Anytime she would ask him about it he would deny that anything was wrong. Tonight though she was woken up after she heard a rustling noise next to her.

Astrid looked around and slowly rolled over to see Hiccup was asleep but he seemed to be having a nightmare. She pushed herself up a bit so she was sitting up on the mattress.

"Hiccup," she said softly as she lightly shook his shoulder but he didn't respond. She continued to shake his shoulder but he still remained in his nightmare. "Hiccup wake up," she said in a louder voice and shoved his shoulder. His eyes shot open and he quickly sat up, his breathing heavy and rapid. He didn't say anything as he just sat there and tried to steady himself from his nightmare. Astrid didn't say anything as she just scooted forward so that she was next to Hiccup. He looked at her for a second and she saw a tired expression on his face and he shook his head and looked away. Astrid didn't say anything as she just wrapped her arm around him and he slowly leaned his head on top of hers.

"I'm a mess," he finally said after they sat in silence for a few minutes.

"What was your nightmare about," Astrid asked but he didn't say anything at first. He just hunched over and placed his head in his hands.

"You die," he finally said as he leaned back fully so that he was looking up at the ceiling. "I can't do anything to stop them and I watch you die." His voice was even but Astrid could tell he was trying not to break. She looked back at him and saw a mixture of a sad and cold look on his face.

"Hey," she said as shifted backwards so that she was resting her back against the headrest. "I'm not dead so don't think like that."

"Think like what," he asked as he flicked his eyes and looked over at her.

"Like you failed at something," Astrid told him, "I'm alive and that's all you have to think about."

"Thinking about that makes me realize that you could've died," Hiccup said with a sigh. "I saw that arrow Astrid, a few more inches the other way." He didn't finish his sentence and he didn't have to because she knew what he was thinking. Astrid paused for a moment and then took his hand and raised it to her heart.

"I'm fine," she told him as he felt her heartbeat against his palm, "I'm not dead and you don't have to think about it anymore." Hiccup just nodded as he slowly lowered his hand back down to the mattress and Astrid moved around so she could rest her head on his chest. "What else are you thinking about," she asked after she heard him run a hand through his hair.

"Nobody had to die, but I didn't hesitate to do it," he said with a sigh. Astrid didn't say anything at first, mainly because she didn't know what to say. Also Hiccup didn't say anything about the night when Astrid got hurt, all he said was that it wasn't good. "I could've just knocked them out or just fought Jack, but I killed them."

"Hiccup look at me," Astrid told him as she propped herself on one shoulder so she could look at him. He slowly looked at her and she saw a sad look on his face but he met her eyes. "We are not going down this path again, I'm not letting this happen. Listen I know it was stressful and probably not the best thing to go through but what happened, happened you can't change that. And I know you don't like to kill but sometimes to live we have to do things we don't like." Hiccup didn't say anything at first but then he smiled as he leaned back to stare back at the ceiling.

"You're amazing you know that," he said with a soft smile and then he pushed himself up so that he was now resting his back against the headrest. "And to think how you and I were when we first got on this island."

"It was something that's for sure," Astrid admitted with a soft laugh as she thought back to the early days of their relationship, if you could even call it that.

"Did you ever think it would turn out like this," Hiccup asked. Astrid paused for a moment to think, not exactly sure of her answer.

"Honestly at first no," Astrid admitted, "Having to deal with your stubborn ass wasn't enjoyable at first."

"I was the stubborn one," he asked with a soft chuckle, "I feel like we need to reevaluate our history."

"You can think whatever you want to," Astrid said with a small smile and they laughed more. "What made you ask about that," she asked, curious to what made him reminisce about their past. The smile on Hiccup's face faded a bit and Astrid became even more confused by his expression.

"I know you're not going to like it," Hiccup said with a sigh, "But I'm going to take you back to Berk."

Ayo, it's me, hopefully everyone enjoyed the chapter, even though I found it to be a little rough but I was kinda stuck and didn't know how to fix up the stuff I didn't like. Also with the first part of the chapter with the whole fight scene I didn't know how to really construct it so it just kinda went on as I wrote it out. A slight cliffhanger but I decided that it would work a bit easier for my part and offer some better possibilities at future chapters. I would classify this as another "kick" chapter to just get it rolling just a bit more.

RERESNIPER: With Snotlout's having siblings I just did a quick search and saw there is some stuff about him having a brother. However I haven't watched any of the Race To The Edge series so I don't know anything that comes from that show. So I'm just going to have Snotlout as an only child. To your other question Hiccup is the better fighter in terms of more skill and experience, the only thing Stoick has is muscle.

emmaxinyiswiftiepotter: I enjoy the Hiccstrid moments as well and I try to throw some stuff around and see where it goes. Glad you enjoy the story still even though I don't necessarily have a lot of those moments there.

INFERN0BOLT: That was my approach and I don't know if I quite hit a decent way of doing it, but of course always trying different stuff to see how it plays out.

ValtierraPao: It would be interesting to try and come up with a whole new plot to it where Hiccup just goes dark. However I think I would fry my brain to come up with more for it, but it is fun to try and think of different routes, glad you enjoy the story too.

sOmEdUdE, MeoW, crazybicyclist, amongussucks: Thank you all for just the words of encouragement and the praise for how it is turning out. I could have done separate sections but it would all have been the same thank you, just know each review means a lot.

I just want to make a quick side note and again will be a broken record for what feels like the millionth time. Thank you to those who follow this and find this to be decent and worth paying attention to. At the time this went up I managed to get twenty chapters in just under three months. With I don't even know how many people are following along, I would count but I tend to lose count a lot doing it. This just started out as something I decided to do when I was bored and had nothing else to do. Now it has turned into something fun to do and I really enjoy doing. Again and again I say my thanks to you for the kind words for what comes out of all of this. As always if you have any thoughts, reviews, and/or questions please leave them as they are always helpful and peace out!
