"Happy Thanksgiving!" Caroline called, as she stepped into the Mikaelson Mansion.
Carrying a pumpkin pie, she walked to the kitchen, finding Elijah at the stove cooking, Kol setting the table, and Klaus feeding Hope. The house smelled of turkey and stuffing.
"Where's Elena?" Caroline wondered, as she set down the dessert on the counter, and went to say hi to Hope in her high chair.
Klaus smiled at the way his love interest fawned over his child. She hadn't bothered to say hi to him, but she hadn't needed to. Her presence was enough for him.
"She's upstairs getting ready," Elijah answered, checking the oven and then going to the chopping board. "Hope wouldn't let her leave."
"Na-na!" Hope squealed in excitement, pounding on her table.
"na-na?" Caroline wondered as she caught the men smiling.
"Elena," Elijah answered, attempting to hold back a smile. "she started saying it today."
"After incessantly crying for hours," Kol added with a grumble. Caroline gave him a curious look.
"Elena was in class this morning and then had some work to attend to, so we were stuck-" Kol closed his mouth, catching Klaus's threatening glare. "So, we were attending to Hope for the morning." He revised, putting on a fake smile as he left the room.
"na-na!" Hope screamed in happiness.
"Caroline," Klaus smiled, looking up at her briefly before going back to feeding his child food.
"Klaus," Caroline responded in a cordial manner. It was their dance they did. Turning to Elijah, she didn't bother asking if he needed help. She wasn't the cooking type. "Well, then I'm off to find Elena."
"Her room is up the stairs, all the way on the right,"
"…Her room?" she wondered intrigued. When Elena told her, she was moving back in to Klaus's mansion, she hadn't mentioned she wasn't sharing a room with Elijah.
"Yes," Elijah answered uncomfortably. "Just take the stairs, make a right down the hall, and hers is the door all the way down on the right."
Caroline slowly nodded. Doing as she was told, she walked through the large house and eventually arrived to Elena's room. Knocking on the ajar door, Caroline stepped inside. The room was huge. It had high ceilings, a huge bed, tons of windows and even its own sitting area.
"Wow," Caroline exclaimed, glancing around.
"Right?" Elena asked, looking for her shoes.
"You didn't tell me you weren't sharing a room with Elijah," Caroline pointed out slightly hurt. Elena had moved in to the mansion weeks ago and hadn't mentioned a word. The two of them had drifted apart in the last few weeks. Each were busy with school and life. It was different than high school, like they were used to. But even in living their own lives, she thought Elena would fill her in.
"Uh, yeah," Elena answered awkwardly. She raised her arms and presented the room to her friend.
"Elena," Caroline said knowing her friend got her real point. She wanted answers and wasn't about to stand for a diversion.
Sighing, her friend bit her lip and glanced around. "I wanted it to be different this time, Care," Elena answered honestly. "When I agreed to stay here, I know neither of the guys were thinking I'd take my own room, but, moving back in with Elijah didn't seem right yet."
Caroline looked at her friend worried. "Are you having second doubts?"
Elena hesitated in answering. "It's not that I doubt my love for him," she responded. "And I don't doubt that Elijah loves me. I just…I want it to be different this time around. I thought that maybe part of the reason why he kissed Hayley could have been that we were moving too fast or it got boring for him. Maybe he needed space."
Caroline sighed. "Elena…"
"I know," Elena said before her friend could say anything. "I know that it sounds stupid, but…" she sighed.
"I don't think it's stupid," Caroline answered. "But I don't think you're being completely honest with yourself either. Elijah and Haley kissed, Elena. But that doesn't reflect on you. You're trying to spare yourself heartbreak by putting distance between you two and it's not really possible for a relationship."
Elena knew her friend was right. Living and dating in one house, in two separate rooms, for both Elena and Elijah was difficult. It wasn't impossible, but it was out of the norm for them and it took a lot of getting used to. They were still trying to work things out and build trust with one another. It didn't help that Elena was so busy and was almost never home.
"Is Hayley coming today?" Caroline wondered, changing the topic. It had crossed Caroline's mind today when getting ready that maybe Tyler would also show up if Hayley did. And she wasn't sure how to feel about that.
"She is," Elena confirmed with a sigh. Going to her bed to put on her boots, Elena anxiously anticipated seeing Hayley again. Holidays were for family and friends, and Hope's family was Hayley. It was something Elena was going to have to get used to with dating Elijah if she wanted to be with him.
"How are you holding up with that?" Caroline wondered. She could see the worry on Elena's face.
"We'll find out, I guess," Elena said resigned, as she straightened out her flowered print dress.
"…do you think she'll bring Tyler?" Caroline wondered uncomfortably. Tears were starting to well in her eyes.
The thought hadn't crossed Elena's mind and she immediately jumped with worry for her friend. "I don't know Care. I'm so sorry, I didn't even think about that when asking you to come here for Thanksgiving. If she does, we can…I don't know, we can figure something out."
Elena went over to her friend and hugged her.
"Ugh! The holidays," Caroline sniffled a bit. "My mom is coming over after her shift around 6. I don't know if we will be done with food by then but—"
"—we'll save her a plate," Elena immediately answered.
"Elena, have you seen my—" Rebekah barged in and raised an eyebrow at the hugging. "Did I miss something?"
"Tyler," Elena sighed at the same time as Caroline answered, "Hayley."
Rebekah shook her head. "Anyway, have you seen my gold hoop earrings?"
Elena shook her head. The one good thing about living at the Mikaelson's was Rebekah. They had grown closer and were like sisters. They shared their clothes, books, and whatever in between. "Try my bathroom. That would be the only place they would be."
Rebekah nodded and made her way past the girls.
"You know," Caroline spoke wiping her eyes. "This is your first holiday with Matt," she called to Rebekah. The pair had gone public a few weeks ago.
"Don't remind me," Rebekah sighed, coming out of the bathroom and not finding the earrings. "I want everything to be perfect."
"I'm sure Matt will still love you even if it isn't perfect," Elena answered with a smile. Taking one last look at herself in the mirror, Elena grabbed her blue jean jacket and walked out with her friends.
"Okay, we need a codeword," Caroline said as they walked down the hall. "If something goes wrong, or we need backup, we say…turkey."
"Well, it's thanksgiving Care. Someone could easily say 'pass the turkey'" Elena stated.
Caroline sighed. "Okay…then…cabbage."
"Cabbage?" Rebekah asked unimpressed. Out of all the words in the English dictionary, this is what the blonde comes up with?
"Well!" Caroline snapped. "yes," she said indignantly. "Unless there is some dish with cabbage in it today."
"I don't think so," Elena answered, sneaking a glance to Rebekah. Cabbage. Yikes.
"Good, then it's settled," Caroline answered as the girls approached the downstairs. All three walked to the kitchen, smelling new scents.
"Need any help?" Elena wondered as she crept up beside Elijah.
Smiling to her, he kissed her briefly before turning back to chopping some vegetables. "You can take your pie out of the oven."
Nodding, she went over to one of the ovens and checked on her dessert. Seeing it a nice golden brown, she grabbed a mitt and pulled it out. Her and Kol had quickly baked a dessert to claim stake in having helped with dinner. Neither wanted to be stuck on clean-up duty with Klaus and Rebekah.
"na-na!" Hope squealed.
Smiling, Elena set her pie on the cooling rack and waved to the child.
"Ah!" Hope squealed, as Rebekah picked the child up so her brother could get ready. 'Ah' stood for Rebekah. Hope still couldn't pronounce Elijah or Kol's name, which the girls loved. The doorbell rang and Rebekah went to get it with Hope. Upon returning was Matt with some booze.
"Who else are we waiting on?" Matt wondered after giving Elena a hug.
"Damon and Stefan, Sherriff Forbes is coming a bit later, and Hayley."
"No Bonnie?" Matt wondered.
Elena frowned and glanced to Caroline. They weren't sure if their friend was ever going to return. "Last time I talked to her she was still in Europe. She isn't ready to come home yet."
Matt sighed. He hadn't talked to Bonnie in a while, but he knew she needed space. Their supernatural world had done a lot to her and he couldn't blame her for staying away. Sometimes the idea was enticing to Matt too.
"Hello?" Stefan called to the house, as he opened the door and stuck his head in. Behind him was Damon, who seemed displeased to be here.
"Stefan, hey," Elena smiled, walking up to him, while Matt switched his attention over to his girlfriend and Hope. Giving him a hug, she took the flowers from his hands and hugged Damon as well.
Damon had been fine all along, having been pouting at Stefan like the brother thought. Stefan reassured Elena all was well, and while the girl still felt as if something was off, she ignored it. She had enough on her plate and the matter wasn't pressing.
Directing them further in the house, she welcomed the pair and put the flowers in a vase. It seemed like such a rare moment for her friends and family to gather together. It would have been perfect if only Jeremy had been here.
You okay? Kol wondered in her head, as he felt an ache in his chest. Glancing over to Elena at the far end of the room, he wondered what she was thinking.
Fine, she told him forcing a smile.
He gave her a quick overload of thoughts, causing a sharp pain in her head as a scolding for lying.
Narrowing her eyes at him, she gave in. I just miss Jeremy. It's my first holiday without him.
Kol wasn't sure what to say to that. He had never lost a sibling like Elena had with Jeremy.
Sure, Finn had died, but their bond wasn't anything like the Gilberts shared with one another. He could still remember the pain Elena felt after her first trip home from New Orleans. She grieved over her breakup with Elijah.
But even that couldn't compare to how she felt and mourned over the loss of her own brother.
The doorbell rang and Rebekah went to get it.
"Are you alright?" Elijah asked, coming to stand next to her with an arm around her waist.
She had been standing in front of the vase of flowers for a few minutes now. He assumed she was talking telepathically with Kol by their long looks from across the room.
Elijah was getting used to the link that Kol and Elena shared. With having first-hand experience on relying on their link, he ended up being grateful for what they shared. Kol was a support that Elena would always have, and would always be there for her, if for some reason he couldn't.
Part of that made Elijah jealous, but he had seen their bond. Kol was good for her, especially when Elena was stretched too thin. If one person could get her to really listen, it was Kol.
"Yeah," she sighed to Elijah, fixing the flowers. "Just…. Jeremy," she admitted.
Before they could talk more, Hayley walked into the room with Tyler.
Caroline immediately looked hurt, and glanced to Elena, who was already staring at her friend with saddened eyes.
"There's my baby," Hayley said going over to Hope and taking her from Matt's arms.
"Uh, okay," Matt said awkwardly handing the child over to Hayley. Giving a nod to an uncomfortable looking Tyler, Matt stood near Rebekah unsure what to do with himself.
Hope began to whimper as Hayley tried to tickle her tummy and sway her side to side.
"Elena," Elijah spoke, watching as Elena focused in on Hope.
The baby was growing more upset.
Looking back to Elijah, Elena tried to focus.
"Did you want to find somewhere to talk?"
Shaking her head, she gave a deep sigh and put her hand over his one on her waist. All she needed was a moment to stich up her broken heart.
Hope began to wail, her little face getting red as Hayley continued to hold her daughter.
"She likes to be bounced," Rebekah corrected, attempting to take the baby. Hayley moved her from Rebekah's reach and tried to bounce Hope.
"She brought him," Caroline hissed coming up to Elijah and Elena. "I can't believe she had the guts to bring him here!"
"I know, I'm sorry Care," Elena frowned. Elijah kissed Elena's forehead and went back to setting up the feast.
"Ugh! Just look at him here. And the she-devil. Who does she think she is?" Caroline scoffed, staring at the pair.
Elena walked off with her friend to make sure everything at the table was set. The dinner was about ready and they could begin to eat.
"Give me my daughter," Klaus growled, as Hope continued to whimper and cry. The infant outstretched her arms for her father.
"I have her, Klaus," Hayley snapped, holding the baby back. Taking Hope's little wrist, Hayley tried to wave it around to cheer her up. Hope didn't like it and began to break out in a loud wail.
"Hayley," Klaus growled. He knew he couldn't do anything while his daughter was in the woman's arms, but he was itching to teach his hybrid to listen to him.
"Just, get me a pacifier or something!" Hayley snapped as she continued to hold her daughter.
Hope was now full-blown crying, making everyone wince at the sounds. The child not only had strong lungs, but in the large house, her cries echoed and bounced off the walls.
Hayley, just give her to someone," Tyler suggested, as he winced at the baby's cries.
"She's my child," Hayley snapped.
"She's not a possession," Elijah bit in reply, stepping into the conversation. "Give her to Niklaus."
Hayley narrowed her eyes and continued to hold onto her child. "No. And you're not the boss of me. I don't have to listen to any of you. Now, someone get me a damn bottle or toy or something," the wolf girl snapped.
Klaus was vibrating with anger.
"This is not good," Caroline whispered to Elena, as they watched the scene. Elena glanced to Kol, both trying to figure out how to best intervene.
"Shh!" Hayley snapped as she bounced, trying to get Hope to be quiet. She continued to cry.
"I'll take her," Stefan tried, setting down his drink and going over to Hope and Hayley.
The room was becoming intense and awkward. It was clear Hayley wasn't giving up the crying child to any of the Originals. Opening his arms to the girl, he got the baby from Hayley's arms and tried bouncing.
Chaos struck.
Klaus swept Hayley up by the neck and super sped her to the far wall of the living room, pinning her there. Elijah then moved to step up beside his brother to moderate the violence Klaus wanted to inflict. Elijah got Klaus to at least remove his hands from her throat and pin her by the shoulders instead.
Tyler jumped to defend Hayley and pull Klaus from her, and so Rebekah dashed to defend her family. Catching the male by the back of his jacket, she held him with his arm pinned behind his back so he couldn't interfere.
"Uh, help?" Stefan asked to no one in particular as Hope continued to cry even harder.
The baby was now so upset she was red in the face. Hayley went to try to get Hope, but Klaus held her tighter against a wall, tempted to wrap his hands back around her neck. Rebekah blocked Tyler from trying anything else as well.
Elena, Caroline, and Matt went over to Stefan and Hope, while Kol and Damon hung back wincing at the loud sounds.
"Shh, shh," Stefan tried. Hope continued to scream ear-splitting sounds.
"Hold her so her side is against your chest," Elena instructed.
Instead of an arm under the butt and over the shoulder, Hope liked to see what was in front of the person holding her, feeling cradled in the person's arm.
"Now bounce, but don't make the 'shh' sound," she added.
It had taken them all forever to get to understanding Hope was not a baby that enjoyed that noise. It irritated her more when someone would try to do that in her ear.
"There you go," she smiled to the child as the baby began to calm down.
"Thank God," Damon claimed tossing back a swig of bourbon.
Kol clinked his glass against Damon's empty one and gulped his alcohol as well.
"Hi there," Caroline cooed as Hope took her outstretched finger.
"Get your hands away from my daughter!" Hayley snapped to Elena.
Klaus growled and Elijah hesitated on stopping his hybrid brother from saving Hayley this time. It itched at Elijah how Hayley spoke to Elena.
Elena stepped back, attempting to diffuse the situation.
"Easy Niklaus," Elijah spoke finally deciding to spare Hayley for Hope's sake. He couldn't stand Hayley any more than Klaus anymore, but he too, felt Hope should have the opportunity to know her mother.
"When's dinner?" Damon asked, breaking some of the tension.
A few laughed including Elena. Going over to her Damon's side, she gave him a grateful look. If Damon was one thing, it was that he was a grateful distraction. He knew how to diffuse tensions by adverting attention elsewhere or cracking jokes.
"What?" he asked trying to play innocent. Slinging an arm around Elena, he glanced around. "I can't believe Stefan dragged me here."
"Are you drunk?" Elena wondered as her friend seemed impaired. While she was no longer as close to Damon or Stefan as she once was, she had spent enough time with both of them to know when they were overly intoxicated.
"Shh," He said raising a finger to his lips with a drunken smile before going to find him a seat at the long table.
The table was festive and set perfectly. With decorations lining the middle and loads of food, everyone took their seats and wait staff came around with drinks as the food was served.
Elena had asked Elijah to help her make Thanksgiving as special as possible, which meant no professionally cooked meals by other people, or feeding off the human staff at the dinner table, like Klaus sometimes liked to do. Part of Thanksgiving to her, was doing everything yourself and putting the hard work in.
He entertained her idea, agreeing to try it this year. He was set to cook most of the meal himself with his siblings to clean up the mess. The only thing none of them would do was serving. Elijah and his siblings were not into serving others their plates or attending to their drink orders. So, Elijah hired staff to do that.
"Wow," Caroline spoke happily as she sat across from Elena and in between Klaus and Matt. The food looked from a magazine it was so perfect.
Elena sat next to Hope, getting ready to feed her. Knowing this could get awkward and probably violent, she strapped the child in her high chair and put a few items on the tray table for little girl.
"na-na-na!" Hope chanted with happiness, as she waved her tiny fists with squished sweet potatoes.
"You're not feeding my child," Hayley snapped, glowering at Elena from her seat. Only a few people were separating them.
"Hayley…"
It wasn't exactly clear what Hayley's next steps were. All everyone knew was that she got up from her seat.
Everyone reacted. Having already been on edge, each jumped to defend the child and Elena. Kol was the first one to place himself in front of them, a deadly expression in his face as the hybrid backed herself up.
Easy, Elena spoke calmly to Kol through their link.
"Enough Hayley," Elijah said reeling in his anger. "Go sit down."
Caroline had put a hand on Klaus's arm to get him to calm down, and Matt tried stopping Tyler from adding to the tensions of defending Hayley again.
"I'd listen to my brother if I were you," Kol spoke darkly. He was in no mood for games when it came to his loved one's safety. Kol was fiercely loyal.
Thank you, Elena spoke when Hayley backed down and went to sit down.
Kol gave a small nod to Elena and took his seat.
While part of dinner was tense again, as wine was passed around and conversation got flowing, things eased up. Sherriff Forbes had shown up and held Hope for most of the evening, which made tensions lessen.
It wasn't until Caroline and her mom left that things amped back up.
Hope was crying and Klaus had given her to Elena to calm her down. While she rocked and held the child, Hayley fought against Klaus and Elijah. The jealousy and territorial feelings overcame Hayley.
Knocking foreheads with Klaus, she snapped his neck and then stabbed Elijah with a dinner fork, snapping his neck as well. Matt was thrown across the room, hitting his head on one of the steps of the living room, while Kol and Rebekah then sped over and held Hayley back.
Stefan, Damon and Tyler stood in front of Elena and watched as Hayley's eyes turned yellow. She flung Rebekah across the room and dug her werewolf claws into Kol's arm. While Kol grunted in pain, he didn't let go of Hayley.
"I guess I'm up," Damon said rushing over to take hold of the arm in Kol's shoulder and pin the hybrid down. No one had a clue what to do with her. They knew she was under Klaus's protection and no one was clear if Klaus would kill them if they killed her.
"Hayley stop!" Elena called as Hope began crying again, sensing the chaos.
Tyler was looking to the child and back at Hayley. He wasn't sure what to be doing.
"A little help here," Damon groaned as he tried to pin Hayley down. Stefan went over to Damon and Kol, attempting to persuade Hayley to back down.
"Hayley, enough," Tyler called, deciding to put himself in front of the child. If there was one thing he wouldn't do, it was hurt a baby. "You've made your point, now back off. You are putting your own child in danger."
Claws dug deeper into Kol's skin.
"I'm not doing anything to my child, she is," Hayley gritted, nodding over to Elena.
Elena noticed Klaus beginning to stir. The relief was real. While Elena could take on Hayley, she wasn't sure if she could do it safely with a baby in her arms.
Knocking heads with Stefan and snapping Damon's neck, Hayley grabbed Kol and kicked him in the stomach. Repeating the move a few times too many, he caught her knee and threw her into the table.
With rage Hayley got up, striking him with her long claws. Grabbing him while he was distracted by the deep gashes on his face, she threw him into Tyler.
With the force that Hayley tossed Kol, both men came bounding back towards Elena, making her fall to the ground with Hope in her arms.
Elena felt and heard a crunch as she went down, her skull hitting the floor from the heavy blow. Making sure to shelter and hold on tightly to a screaming Hope, Elena tried to take all of the injury, as the force had her sliding across the floor.
"Elena," Tyler breathed, when he realized what he had hit.
Turning around, he helped her up with the baby in her arms. Klaus snapped Hayley's neck and raced over to them.
"She's alright, you're okay," Elena said, finding Hope wasn't injured. She had taken the impact of the boys and her own body cushioned the baby's fall.
Passing her to Klaus, she rubbed her head and helped Kol up from his spot on the floor.
Elijah began to stir, attempting to gather what had happened when he fell into darkness. Seeing the wreckage of the house and Hayley on the ground, Elijah went straight for Elena.
"Are you alright?" he asked her, checking for injury.
"I'm okay," she said wincing as he touched the back of her head. "Hope is okay too. My body cushioned the blow."
Elijah looked at her with surprise and anger. "Hayley went after her own child?"
"Not intentionally," she said glancing to Klaus. "Kol and Tyler were trying to protect Hope in my arms and Hayley ended up tossing Kol into Tyler and he fell back onto me. But again, Hope is okay."
Elena attended to the wounds of the rest of the company, as Rebekah cared for Matt's head injury.
"Well, that was exciting," Stefan spoke, taking Elena's outstretched hand. Standing up, he looked to the damage of the house. The long table was now broken, shattered plates and silverware all over the floor.
"Stefan, we gotta go," Damon stated as he rubbed his neck.
Elena stared at the both of them, as Stefan gave Damon a look. "Is everything okay?"
"Uh, yeah…" Stefan answered turning back to Elena. "We just…we should probably get home and let you handle things. It's been a long evening, but thank you for everything."
Stefan guided Damon towards the door and Elena followed. Something seemed off by the way they were acting. "Are you sure?"
"We're fine. Go take care of the baby and high school jock," Damon scoffed. Hugging Stefan goodbye as Damon waved her off still rubbing his neck, Elena went back to Matt and Rebekah.
"I'm fine," Matt insisted as he held an icepack to his head. There was a small cut on his forehead as well.
"Just let me heal you," Rebekah insisted.
Matt shook his head, pushing her bloody wrist away. "I'm fine, Rebekah. I just hit my head. I'll live."
"Yeah but Matt-"
"-I don't want to take any chances, okay? I'm alright, Rebekah," Matt replied with a snap.
Elena interrupted the lover's conversation. "Do you need anything else Matt?"
"Just some ibuprofen," Matt requested, which Rebekah immediately went to go get. As he was attended to, Elena made her way back to Hope and the rest of the men.
"What are we doing about Hayley?" Kol snapped. She was bound to wake up soon and not be happy at all.
Klaus rumbled with anger. "Are you alright?" he asked Elena, glancing at her as she joined the group.
Besides Elena's back and tailbone throbbing and the head injury, she was fine. "I'm good," she answered, going over and hugging Elijah. She tried not to wince as he touched her back.
Klaus noticed it immediately.
"I'll heal," she settled on, attempting to ease their worries.
"Let me take her home," Tyler cut in, figuring out what to do about Hayley. "I'll talk to her and get this whole thing straightened out. Clearly she lost control tonight and it won't happen again."
Elijah's jaw tightened. "No, it won't."
"Come on, she's Hope's mother. She had a right to be territorial."
"She just endangered Hope," Kol snapped. As Kol and Tyler argued, Elena smiled at the sleeping baby in Klaus's arms. The events must have exhausted her into a deep slumber.
"Niklaus, you will have to do something," Elijah spoke, as the bickering continued. While Elijah didn't want to encourage violence on Hayley, she had crossed the line and hurt their family. She needed to be stopped. They had all given her multiple chances, but now she had put her own child in danger by her anger. This couldn't go on.
"Get her out of here, Tyler," Elena instructed. All the men looked up at her.
Elijah was the first to speak. "…Elena…"
Elena shook her head, ignoring all of the Originals' stares. Looking to Tyler, she gave him a look to signal not to push any more. "Get her out of her and don't let her come near Hope again. If she wants anything to do with her child, she'll need to talk with Klaus first."
"I mean it, Tyler," Elena warned darkly as Tyler picked up Hayley's' body.
"Elena!" Kol shouted, as they watched as Tyler absconded the house with Hayley.
"Stop," Elena commanded, halting Kol from shouting at her, as she broke away from Elijah's arms to rub her pounding head. Klaus was vibrating with anger and yellow eyes as he held his child.
"Hope is safe," she sighed turning back to them. "Klaus can deal with Hayley in the morning however he pleases, but for right now, just let it be. We have bigger things to deal with."
"And what would that be?" Kol snapped angrily. He was beyond pissed at Hayley and the whole debacle.
"I think something is wrong with Damon," Elena told them. "And I think it's serious."
"They seemed fine today," Elijah noted. She had continued to have this hunch over the Salvatores, but Elijah wondered if her mind was projecting such issues because she felt guilty for no longer being close with them. There was never any evidence to prove her theory.
"I think Stefan knows something," Elena insisted. It wasn't new to hear that she felt something was wrong with Damon. But something was there. "I want to stop by the boarding house and check up on them. When they left, something was going on. I don't know what, but it didn't feel right."
"You are not to go alone, Elena" Klaus commanded. And for once Elena respected that and listened.
"I'll take Kol," Elena answered. While Elijah was also a viable candidate, she wasn't sure how he would be with both Salvatores and her. Her past loves and her current love weren't really all great company. Kol was a more neutral party.
"You need more blood in your system before you go over there," Elijah instructed before she could go off. He may not be able to stop her from checking out her hunches, and he trusted Kol to keep an eye on her, but Elijah could see Elena was still injured and her healing was slow. It was a sign of a lack of blood in her body.
Sighing, she looked back at him to challenge the idea, but the look he was giving her made her change her mind. It was a 'do not argue' with me face, and she didn't think it was an argument worth fighting.
Taking Kol's hand, she spun on heel to go grab some blood bags before heading over to Damon and Stefan.
