Three days had passed since that nightmare, but from then on things went a little differently. The tension in the air thickens and now the effects of that mysterious negativity is taking its toll onto many people.

Right now the Urameshi siblings and Kazuma walk on the path that would lead them to Kuwabara's house. Why was Miyuki there in the first place? Well, mostly because her brother dearest and orange-haired teammate wants to fight again, and they want her to join with them. I this case though, the brother asked for it, because he doesn't want anything bad to happen to his little sister, now that there is this new threat.

As usual, the boys were bickering and saying many silly things to each other, occasionally capturing one in headlocks or give a good punch to the other's face. However as the two were fighting like an old married couple, Yusuke was the one to put an end to it all, and not his sister, who had been walking next to them in dead silence and a thoughtful but tired and dazed expression on her face.

"Hey, what's with her today?" Kuwabara asked curiously as he let go of his punching buddy. "She had been more quiet than usual."

"Yeah, but that's my sister." Yusuke shrugged the manner off as if it was no big of a deal. "You know the silent, sarcastic robot friend with a silver tongue."

"Are you blind Urameshi?" The teen thug asked with an angry look on his face, that took Yusuke a little off guard because he had never snapped like that. "Just look at her closely! She looks like she hadn't slept for days!" The Urameshi boy groaned in annoyance but didn't object and did what was told to him. He turned to his little sister with an irritated expression, but that soon shifted into a small frown when he finally realize what his friend was talking about. Miyuki wasn't just eerily quiet, she also looked a little distressed and a bit upset. Well, her face showed nothing, but her eyes and those black bags underneath them told him the truth. Misery and complete exhaustion.

"Hey, you okay there girly?" The Urameshi boy asked as he leaned closer to his sister, only to receive nothing. Not even the slightest reaction. "Miyuki?" He called again while snapping his fingers in front of the girl's face, making her finally rip herself out of the train of thoughts. "You okay there little sis?" The brother asked, earning a small and weak nod from his sister who subconsciously made sure the sleeves of her uniform is covering her wrists. It made Yusuke's suspicion rose while his eyes soften up when he noticed how she wasn't looking at him in the eye and just stares ahead in a daze and distress. His thoughts then jogged out the events of last nights, where his sudden anger made him insult his own sibling in a way which had never happened in his history. Now that made him feel guilty and with a deep breath, he mustered up an apology of sort. "Hey-uh, I'm sorry for snapping at you that night, I don't know what had gotten in me back there." The male Spirit Detective apologized as he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. His apology sounded sincere and genuine, in fact, Yusuke did felt ashamed for shouting at his sister. He was in a really bad mood on that day, thanks to Koenma's new case announcement and he somehow took that anger out on the Urameshi girl, who in the end just mutely waved one hand dismissively before waking ahead of the boys in a hurried pace, for either not wanting to be in anyone's company or because she doesn't want to talk to her brother like at all. Yusuke thought about these options and the latter choice made him feel awful.

"Huh?" The boys hummed questioningly as they began to follow her.

"Now that is strange." Yusuke commented as he wondered what could have possibly made her this way.

"Maybe she had a nightmare or something." Kuwabara thought out loud. "Speaking of nightmares, I had this weird feeling last night."

"What?" The male Spirit Detective asked his friend.

"That's right." Kazuma nodded his head. "Before I went to bed I felt this weird aura in the air. It also had a weird smell to it, but as soon as I sniffed in it I suddenly felt a bit more stressed and angrier."

"Really?" The Urameshi boy asked curiously.

"Yeah." Kuwabara nodded his head once more, more solemnly. "And I have a feeling that something evil is lurking in our world."

"Well, it's not a coincidence." Yusuke commented as he narrowed his eyes at his sister figure who just took a turn to the corner. Kuwabara looked at his friend questioningly. "Miyuki and I got another case not too long ago from Koenma. " The young Spirit Detective began explaining. "He and Botan said there is something or someone who is spreading something that would make people, well, mostly kids have brutal nightmares more frequently."

"Do you think it has to do with that weird spirit energy that is hanging in the air?" Kuwabara questioned curiously.

"Yeah, I guess." The male Spirit Detective replied with a small nod. "And I bet on my lunch money that it probably did something to Miyuki last night." He concluded as he and Kazuma turned the corner as well-.

"H-hey! Where is Miyuki?!" Kuwabara cried out in fear while Yusuke dropped his backpack to the floor as his hand tugged onto his black locks.

"WHAT?!" The Urameshi boy exclaimed going as pale as a ghost. 'How did she disappear that fast?' He asked himself. 'She just turned a minute ago . . . unless. . .' Then his next thought horrified him.

"Do you think she got kidnapped?!" Kuwabara asked, however, received no reply, though that is what Yusuke is thinking at the moment. But when he is about to give one, he noticed something speeding away, from the corner of his eyes. Immediately, he ran after it, doing his best to keep after the trail.

"Hey! Where are you going Urameshi?!" Kazuma asked as he picked up Yusuke's schoolbag and run after his friend.

'I've got to get Botan and Kurama.' Yusuke stated with a serious expression on his face. 'If that someone we're looking for managed to kidnap my little sister then we're in some serious trouble. Damn it Yusuke!'

Meanwhile, at some other place, a blur of a black figure flashed away within a blink of an eye. It jumped from one rooftop to another, but it soon stopped at the Urameshi household, right at Miyuki's balcony. The figure soon landed onto the platform and placed down the person he had been carrying.

"We could have walked you know." I pointed out casually as soon as I walked into my room and placed my school bag onto the floor.

"Hn." Was all his reply, but I shrugged it off and just began rubbing my tired eyes. Great, not only that I have no energy supply within me to last an hour to be awake, now my overprotective brother probably thinks that I had been kidnapped by some crazy monster or some horse shit. I was about to retort something to Hiei, but my words were stuck in my throat as my body backed away from the hand that held the communicator device, similar to the one that I got from Koenma, but looking much cleaner and probably upgraded. "That assistant of yours gave me this to give it to you." Hiei told me blankly as his face was looking at somewhere else. I rose an eyebrow at this behaviour, but I soon shrugged it off.

"Um, thanks. . ." I thanked him awkwardly as my left hand reached for the device to take the device as carefully as I am able to. But when the tip of my finger touched his skin, I felt something began to fill my chest like. . . warmth. . . ? I feel my face heating up and in a quick motion, making me snatch the device from the demon's hand fast while turning my body away so he won't see the blush that had painted its way up to my face. However, the pounding of my heart never stopped hammering on my ribcages. What's wrong with me? Am I sick or something? This felt completely foreigner for my heart, like a language to my tongue, yet this newfound feeling felt so . . . right. . . balancing me in some strange way. I shook my head violently like a dog after a huge bath. Don't be ridiculous Miyuki. You are just being delusional. "Is. . ." I started a little dazed like I just switched my brain on. "Is there anything else?" Why am I feeling so hesitant?

"No." He bluntly replies as I caught a glimpse of his ruby orbs as I looked over my shoulder.

"Hmpf." I huffed as I looked away again with a mental eyeroll. Typical. "Well then, thank you for today's service Delivery Boy. You may leave." I hear The almighty Shadow Lord 'tsk' at the new stupid nickname I had given to him. I turned at the demon boy again, only to see him long gone. I let out a small sigh of relief before looking at the hand that made contact with Hiei's.

This is so strange in many other ways. . . To have these positive and warm emotions again. . . It's been so long that I even felt something like that. . . just like at our last meeting. . . with him. . .

My fingers then began to trace down to the phoenix ring . . . Sanyu. . .

A sharp ringing sound erupted in the air, snapping me out of my small trance of thoughts. I picked up the communicator mirror and opened it up to see Botan with the boys. Oh yeah, I totally forgot about them.

"Hey Miyuki, it's Botan, can you read me?" My assistant asked with her upbeat attitude and tone as always.

"Loud and clear." I replied to her blankly as ever, already done for the day.

"Phew, good. That means Hiei gave you the new communicator." My assistant replied with relief. Just then I hear her yelp in fright while see my distressed brother's face being pushed onto the screen.

"Give me that! Miyuki are you okay?!" Yusuke asked me on cue with his concerned tone.

"Yeah, you just disappeared. " Kazuma butted in as well. "We thought you were kidnapped."

"Well, technically I was , but I'm fine." I replied lazily, not even caring how I worded things.

"What?!" All three of them screamed, making my ear almost bleed.

"Relax, I am in my room at the moment, so you don't have to go all panicky and everything." I huffed at them with another mental eyeroll.

"Well geez, sorry for being worried about you Sass queen." My brother told me irritatedly. "We will discuss this later once we're home." Once more came in Captain Protector to my utter annoyance.

"Fine." I rolled my eyes at him openly. Just then mu bluenette friend appeared on the screen. She probably stole her communicator back, thank goodness.

"Well, now that we managed to settle this, let's get down to business." She said, now with a serious tone.

"Did you find out anything about where the source of this strange energy comes from or something that could give us a lead?" I asked my assistant, already trying to think of cracking this next case.

"For now I'm afraid not." The young Grim Reaper replied with a sad tone. "However, from my last night's patrol I did sense the energy near your house, but it was a bit stronger from the other times."

"There was nothing at our house Botan." Yusuke told her, clearly puzzled by that discovery unlike me.. "You must have mixed up with one of our neighbours."

"Actually, she is not." I corrected my brother. "I had a nightmare." I confessed as my mind began to look through that dream and its details. . .

"A nightmare?" Yusuke asked with his eyes going soft like melted butter.

"What did you see in it?" Botan asked me curiously, but also sounding a little urgent too as her eyes looked sternly into mine.

"I will tell you everything, but in person only." I suggested to them in a small sigh.

"Got it." My brother nodded rapidly. "We will be there within a few minutes." With that they hang up and so did I. As the minutes passed in a blur, they finally arrived along with Rosehead to my surprise. Once they got into my room I closed the door and turned to the group. "So what was your Nightmare about?" Yusuke was the first one to ask as I sat down on the edge of my bed and tried to collect my thoughts. Taking a deep breath I closed my eyes and crossed my arms over my chest.

"I woke up in the middle of a dark castle." I began to explain with a small sigh. "It looked abandoned for centuries, but someone was there. I saw a man and two women. All of them were demons no doubt since those people were once Suzaku's relatives."

"What?!" The boys exclaimed in shock.

"Suzaku's family?" Rosehead repeated my words, and I nodded in confirmation.

"The demon, a sorcerer or some king I think, he was Suzaku's father while those two women were his sisters." I continued on. "In my dream, I was talking to that man, and for some reason he wanted me to join, take part of his plans, but of course I refused. Then the sisters held me in one place while their father almost hit me with a spell, but by the time it could have even reached my face, I woke up."

"But this could be a trick or something. I mean these are just dreams, right?" Kuwabara wondered out loud only to earn a shake of a head from me.

"Both." I told them with a serious tone. "That douchebag knew who I was, and that I was one of those humans who killed his son, as he put it." Then I reached up to my sleeves and. . . "Also. . ." I trailed off while I slowly pulled the fabric off to reveal the bruises that decorated my wrist. Rosehead, immediately took that hand in a gentle manner and observed it carefully.

"This is indeed different." My redheaded friend nodded in agreement as he let go of my hand, but held an uncomfortable look on his face. "And this person is no doubt the one who dared to start this. Can you tell us how did he look like?" He turned to me again, his expression softening up.

"He is nothing like Suzaku that's for sure." I grumbled a little. "But that punk did inherit his lightning powers."

"His face sis!" Yusuke cried out making his sister flinch slightly, mainly because she was really tired but tried her best to keep it together. "What did he look like?" A small yawn came out of my lips before I got a little pissy and rude.

"Okay- fine! Relax." I snapped at him before I inhaled and let out a breath. "He had jet black hair and tentacles on his hair like Suzaku, but they were dark-blue. He had horns and his eyes were ice blue." As I looked at that picture in my memories, I suddenly found myself shuddering while my right hand made it's way up to my face and covered one of my eyes. "They held so much coldness and cruelty. But that's not what bothered me the most." The more I thought about that horrible nightmare experience my body was shaking like I was in a cold winter outside, much to my discomfort. "I was right there. Helpless and not being able to do anything to move. And I hated it." Then my other hand began to raise itself before it began to tug onto my black locks in frustration. "He said it himself. . . I could have died. . . For real. "

The fear again. . . I hated this so much. . .

When I woke up from that dream, I felt miserable in a mental way. Like my spirit was just dropped down back into my body. It can probably be sleeping paralysis, but this felt much worse than that.

A hand on my left shoulder made me jump. I turned to my side to notice my brother comforting me. . .

"Hey, you're here with us now sleeping beauty." Yusuke reassured me in his joking matter as he swung his arm around my neck and brought his face closer to mine. I hate it, but at the same time decided not to complain about it. "And nothing will hurt you as long as we are here. Right guys?"

"Yeah." Kazuma agreed proudly pointing his thumb at his chest. "You can count on me, Miss Miyuki! The brave and strong Kuwabara, right at your service." Okay, that last sentence made me want to puke.

"Same here." Kurama nodded his head. "We won't let anything happen to you."

"Hn." I hummed as I mutely nodded my head and closed my eyes. I didn't show anything but. . . I did felt touched by how these people cared about me. . . But at the same time. . . It terrified me. . . to be close to people. . . to get attached. . . just like before. . .

"Anyways, now that we found the big cheese here, I suggest to go to the Spirit World and ask Koenma if he knows something." My brother suggested in his own joking manner.

"Right." We all agreed before the young Grim Reaper opened up a portal for us and went right through it.

"Woah!" I hear Kuwabara breath out in amazement. "This place looks pretty clean."

"Why thank you." Said Koenma who just jumped off of chair and walked toward us. Of course, Kuwabara would first rant about the baby ruler fact that my brother and I went through, but I just blocked it out and looked to the other side of the room. That's when I saw Hiei leaning against the wall with his eyes closed and arms crossed.

Now we have the full team ready.

I guess. . .

The next thing we did was to tell Koenma everything that we had found from start to finish at the moment.

"A ruler of some kind?" The young prince asked as he thoughtfully paced around on his desk's surface with one hand under his chin. " And you said it was also a demon with magic?"

"Well, I figured that part mostly from his staff and magical crown on his head." I said observably as I feel myself going a bit more tired like I would just fall asleep right here where I stand. "But he did tell me he was the King of Nightmares."

"What?" Rosehead gasped out.

"It can't be. . ." I hear the pacifier brat murmur out loud with a tone that said. . . he realized something or just found it familiar.

"Can't be what? Just spit it out, because we don't get all day!" My idiot of a brother shouted his demands impatiently. Taking a deep breath he turned to all four of us with a serious expression.

"Well, at first, I wasn't sure if that's him or not, but after hearing the title of 'The King of Nightmares', my suspicion is finally confirmed." The little kid told us. "We are dealing with a high-level threat that had been trying to gain control over the three worlds for generations. He almost succeeded at one point, but thankfully he had been stopped in time. However, I never thought that he would be the father of the Saint Beasts' leader. In fact, I didn't even know that he had managed to find a wife for himself since-."

"Cut the crap and just get to the point Diaper King!" My brother demanded, having enough of Koenma's rant. For once I agreed because I also want to know who is this we're truly dealing with.

"Very well Yusuke." Koenma sighed tiredly before looking into our eyes. " His name is Zankoku, a powerful sorcerer who is also known as the King of Nightmares."

"Hn." Hiei hummed out loud, thoughtfully and with interest.

"Yes, I believe I had heard of him before." Shuichi spoke up for the first time. "In many rumours and stories, he is one of the most skilled sorcerers in the arts of elemental and dark magic. His only plan was to recreate a new world for his own needs, but in order to do so, he wanted to burn everything . . . literally. . . He almost managed to wipe out half of The Demon World but was stopped and sealed into a realm for all eternity, isolated from the Spirit, Demon and Human world."

"But something must have happened if he managed to find a wife for himself." I pointed out.

"Perhaps." Koenma agreed. "But this doesn't matter at the moment. What matters is he finally decided to show up and set his plan of World Domination into motion once more. And I think this time he has a chance to succeed. Who knows what he had been doing during these years. . ."

"Well then, what are we waiting for?!" My brother exclaimed as he punched his fist into his palm. "We'll go into that castle and kick some wizard-ass!"

"Count me in Urameshi!" Carrot Tom chimes in. I pinched the bridge of my nose and at this before letting out a small grunt then make my way over the two and grab them by their ears.

"Not so fast punks." I warned the now wincing and whining idiots as I pulled their ears. "Let's not jump in head first without a swim-suit." With that, I let go of them.

"Damn it with your bitchy mood swings!" Yusuke snapped at me as he rubbed his ear. "And let me ask you, have you gone deaf or something?! Koenma said we need to act now."

"Yeah." The Stupid ugly face agreed. "If we don't stop that monster, we're dead, and as the man and protector Kazuma Kuwabara, I won't let my people, my family, and my friends suffer or die in a terrible fate of some magician!" The speeches again. I dropped my head down in defeat while I let out a sigh of annoyance.

"I am surrounded by idiots." I murmured under my breath.

"Hn, spare me from your list." Hiei commented annoyed making me give him a stink eye. Why was he here again?

"Well, as much as I agree with your statement Miyuki, your brother got a point. We need to act now before things will get out of hand just like last time with the Makai Insects incident." Koenma said with a sorrowful tone. "I want you all to be prepared for your mission, which will be going on tonight at midnight. Botan will pick you up guys."

"What?!" Yusuke and Kuwabara exclaimed in disbelief. "You mean we will do this tonight?! Oh come the hell on!"

"I guess we don't really have much of a choice." Rosehead said with a serious tone.

"Darn it. . ." Kuwabara pouted.

I scoffed at the boys as my head shook with disapproval.

Well, I guess, here we go again. . . another mission to die for. . .
