(Argent D'Nur, Outskirts of Taras Nabad)
Taras Nabad, capital city of the Sentinel Empire, or what was left of it, was in another crisis. Having just repelled a demon incursion, the Night Sentinels had been preparing for another possible attack from the legions of Hell. Imagine their surprised when a strange structure appeared on the outskirts of the city, with an army marching out. Not one of demons, but of men, along with a various manner of creatures, and wyverns being ridden by riders, but smaller than the wyverns of Argent D'Nur, and way smaller than the noble dracones. Their weapons and war machines were primitive and the only thing they seemed to really rely on were their numbers.
Unfortunately for them, a Night Sentinel was worth at least a hundred men. "KAR EN TUK!" They all shouted their new battle cry.
"Hahahaha!" Gor laughed as he slammed his Quake Mace into an invader's head, splitting him in half. He swung his weapon again, killing a pig-like creature by separating it from the waist up. Around him his Sentinel brothers were easily slaying other invaders. In close combat, the Night Sentinels used Quake and Energy weapons, while a few had scatter guns. Supporting from the rear were the marksman, firing crossbows, longbows, and plasma rifles. With these two elements, the would-be invaders were no match for Sentinel might. Their energy weapons easily destroyed these fools, sometimes leaving only bloody remnants of gore and meat. It had not even been a full hour until this so-called invasion was being suppressed. Already thousands of the invaders were dead, with dozens captured and the few hundred already fleeing from the Night Sentinels…and from him.
The man once called the Outlander, now the Doom Slayer, slew the foolish invaders with ease. In his hands was the fable Crucible, possessing a new Wraithfire-forged blade after the last one was left inside the demonic Dreadnought's corpse. Covering him was a new armor that was called the Praetor Suit that he had been seeing wearing upon walking out from the chamber of the Divinity Machine. No one knew who made it or where it came from, though its appearance was a mix of his old Marine Armor and Night Sentinel Armor, but the metal used was clearly of Hell. Either way, it deflected the futile attacks as the Slayer tore through the invaders with the same ferocity as he did with the demons, protecting his adopted home. The invaders who had not been killed by him were already fleeing. Hell, he didn't even need weapons as the Slayer would just use his hands to crush anyone unfortunate enough to get in his way. Indeed, these invaders' weapons merely broke or bounced off the Sentinels' armor, and the Argenta warriors could just use their fists to kill them.
As he cut down more of the invaders, the Slayer noticed that the humans were wearing armor and wielding weapons that seemed like an amalgamation of Earth's Roman and Medieval eras. And for the monsters, they matched some of the old mythological creatures. Orcs, goblins, ogres, trolls, kobolds, wyverns, and so forth. If he were still on Earth, he would have thought these fuckers were cosplaying. Not that it mattered, as they would die for invading his adopted world. The Slayer followed that thought up by slicing an Ogre's legs and then its head with the Crucible.
Loud roars could be heard above. Flying towards the battle were several Dracones, one of the many descendants of the Ancestrals tamed by the Night Sentinels and Ridden by the Templars. Behind them were their lesser cousins, wyverns who were mounted by Night Sentinel Warriors. With their riders urging them forward, the dracones let loose flames that burned through the ranks of the invaders while the wyverns used their talons to kill any who survived. Even the enemy wyverns were no matched, as they were knocked down from the sky by the larger reptiles, with a few being caught by their massive mouths. Also, in the air were the Gryphon riders, smaller and more numerous, but no less lethal as their talons and beaks ripped bodies apart with ease while their riders, Sentinel Paladins, impaled their foes with their spears. The Jet Chariots also joined, flying overhead. Including the pilot, two additional Sentinels were on board, firing their Ballistae while the Jet Chariot fired plasma shots from the installed Blaster. Numerous targets were blown to pieces, while other invaders were missing limbs.
In addition, War Barges and Transport Skiffs were heading towards the battlefield, hovering over the ground as the occupants fired upon the invaders. Hell, some of said people were being knocked down when they stupidly tried to stop the hovercrafts. Behind them were dozens of Hoverbikes, the riders firing the built-in plasma blasters that tore through the feeble bodies of the attackers. Some of the Sentinels used their melee weapons to cut the enemy down up close. Direwolf riders also joined in the fray, the mounts tearing through the enemy with their fangs. The invaders tried to pierce the direwolves, but the creature's natural hide and armor stopped any attempts. Around them were their smaller kin, the trusted wolves who tackled any invader they spotted and tore their throats out.
The Doom Slayer caved in an orc's face in with his knee before looking forward. Near the gate were several men on horses, their overly fancy armor a sign that they were high ranked. Among them was one who was clearly the commander of this botched invasion. His face was red and sweaty, eyes wide and filled with shock, confusion, and fear. All this was too much for him to take in obviously, but he still tried to give out orders to his slowly dwindling army.
Without a word, the Slayer charged, knocking aside anyone in his way, or even crushing them under his boot. Taking out his shotgun, he loaded another pair of shells. Pushing down an ogre, the Slayer used the momentum to push himself upward until he was right over the officers. Aiming his shotgun, he fired and killed the general's horse. The blast scared the officers and their horses, making them lose control and be unable to help their commander. Not that it mattered as the moment the Slayer landed, he grabbed the commander by the throat. He briefly looked into the man's fearful eyes before he tore the head from the neck, along with most of the spine too.
Raising the head above him, the Slayer allowed all to see what he just did. It was Roan, who had just killed another invader, saw the decapitated head. "The Doom Slayer has slain their commander!" Roan the Mighty shouted loud enough for everyone to here. Their Sentinel brothers roared in response in victory as they pushed the now severely demoralized invaders back.
By now, the invaders were in full retreat, all sense of courage and discipline lost as they pushed one another to escape. As they fled, they left their spoils…including Argenta civilians who had been captured. Unfortunately, the Doom Slayer would not allow it. It was clear to him that these would-be invaders had intended to capture the people of his new home to become slaves. That was unacceptable and he charged through the Gate without hesitation. He did not even notice Gor and other Night Sentinels following him.
Valen had been directing the last of the captured civilians when Roan approached him. "Commander! The Doom Slayer has gone through the structure. And according to some of civilians, more were taken to the other side."
The Commander cursed. He should've realized that some of their people had already been captured by the invaders. He also should have known that the Outlander would already go through the gate. "Prepare a light detachment to follow him! Secure the other side of the gate and free any of our people they can find!" Valen ordered.
As the order was being sent out via communicator, the Night Sentinels were already charging in through the structure without hesitation. Only a few remained behind the secure the location and keep watch over the prisoners. Many were moving by foot, others on their mounts and vehicles. They were determined to make the invaders pay for their brazen attempt to conquer their world…in blood.
(With the Doom Slayer)
The Doom Slayer killed anyone in his path, whether they were fleeing or attacking. Many of these soldiers were colliding with one another, communication nowhere present as conflicting orders from various officers were making the situation worse. That meant nothing to the Slayer as he punched an officer's head right off his shoulders, following it by grabbing the back of two soldiers' heads and smashing their faces together so hard that you could hear the bones break. He followed it up by slicing an ogre in half with the Crucible before firing his shotgun again, killing more soldier. Many soldiers were killed mostly by being run over by the Slayer as their feeble bodies were crushed by his armored boots.
Eventually, he exited the dark tunnel. What he entered was a lush green field with clear blue skies and white clouds. The gate he had exited was on top of a small hill, with other hills surrounding it. Right now, they were occupied by a large force of other Roman wannabes with fantasy beasts. The Slayer could hear them all shouting, with a few pointing at him as they tried to scramble a defense. However, the Hell Walker's gaze was focused on the large cages huddled together to the side. Inside them were Argenta citizens, many of them crying out to him and reaching through the bars. With a growl, he raised his shotgun and charged towards them. Multiple soldiers were killed in their futile attempts to stop him. Their attention shifted when a group of Night Sentinels came rushing out of the gate, striking with fury. At the front were several armored Goryle, the large hunched armored humanoids being commanded by their riders. They would either crush the opposition with the large fists, or their riders would fire the plasma blaster pairs mounted on top of their backs. He heard familiar laughter behind him and getting louder.
"Save some of them for us, Slayer!" Gor laughed as he smashed aside a soldier. Roan was also beside him. Unlike Gor's Knight-class armor, Roan's Devout pattern power armor was covered in less blood, though not his Quake-sword and Energy Shield. Roan bowed his head to the Slayer before speaking.
"We've been ordered by King Novik to take prisoners. He and the Khan Maykr want to know who these people are and how they constructed this gate." Roan said, gesturing towards said structure with his sword.
The Slayer said nothing. Instead he raised his hand and pointed towards the cages. Roan and Gor followed his finger and figured what he meant. Roan looked at several Templars who had followed him. "Form a perimeter around the cages while we free our people!" Roan ordered.
The Sentinels roared as they joined the Doom Slayer in cutting down any enemy that stood between them and their captured people. An ogre attempted to crush a few with its club, only for one of the Templars to stab its leg clean through with his energy spear. It howled in pain, only for it to be cut off as two more Sentinels impaled its throat. The human soldiers fared no better, for in front of the Night Sentinels' fury, they were swiftly cut down before they could put up any defense.
"Wall!" Roan ordered to the Sentinel Templars. They quickly got into a circle, energy shields active and weapons at the ready. The Doom Slayer immediately ripped out several bars, allowing the prisoners to escape. "Wait here, we will have a skiff ready to pick you all up." Roan said to the relieve citizens.
"Captain Roan!" A Jet Chariot pilot appeared. The vehicle hovered above them as he addressed said Night Sentinel. "Scouts have spotted a city about three miles. The people there are being besieged by the same force that invaded us!"
"They're fighting one enemy and us at the same time?" Gor asked out loud. "Their commander must be a fool."
"Give us an image." Roan said.
Seconds later Roan's communicator bracer came alive and projected a holographic image for him, Gor and the Doom Slayer to look at. As the scout said, the same invaders were attacking a city. The place was almost completely surrounded by the enemy, with siege weapons placed everywhere, arrows and stones flying back and forth, with a few places showing both sides fighting directly. However, it was two factors that caught the Sentinels' attention. The first was that the defenders were entirely women, wearing revealing battle outfits. The second was that they all had long ears sticking out from their heads and fluffy tails on their rears. To the Argentas, they were unfamiliar with these appendages, but for the Doom Slayer, he recognized them well enough. Wordlessly he marched off towards the city. Gor and Roan saw this, sharing a brief look to one another. With a nod, Gor and a few ran off to join the Slayer while Roan gave out orders.
(Lagomorph's City)
Delilah removed her blade from an Imperial's neck, the body hitting the ground with a thud. The brunette Lagomorph, or Warrior Bunny as her people were popularly called, looked about the ruins of their home. Her foe's corpse had joined dozens of others already sprawled out, both Imperials and her own people. Arrows and boulders were still flying overhead as the defenders tried their best to stay in cover. There were still a few skirmishes inside, but not enough to distract the rest of the Lagomorphs from firing arrows at the attackers.
Despite the situation, it was a lot better than what originally began. A few days ago, the Imperials had refocused their efforts elsewhere, in a place a few hills from the city. This foolish action gave the Warrior Bunnies some breathing space, letting them reinforce the walls and repel the Imperials. However, the Imperial still pushed hard, and eventually their Queen, Tyuule, had decided to perform a bold tactic: She and a select team of elites would sneak out of the city and assassinate the overall commander of this invasion, Crown Prince Zorzal.
A good number argued against this idea. If Tyuule were to be killed or worse, then the Lagomorphs would lose morale and defeat would be inevitable. Yet the Queen would not be swayed and just a few hours ago, carried out her plan. Unfortunately, only one member of her team had returned not more than an hour ago, badly wounded. The plan had come close to succeeding but failed. The rest of the strike force had been killed and Tyuule was the Prince's prisoner.
"They've broken through!" A Lagomorph shouted. True enough, a part of the walls had crumbled, leaving a hole large enough for the Imperials to swarm in through. Delilah gritted her teeth, preparing for her final stand.
But it was unnecessary when several explosions struck the Imperials, sending body parts flying. Surprised, Delilah looked up and saw something unbelievable. Flying overhead were what Delilah could describe as flying silver chariots. Riding them were warriors clad in white armor of designs she had never seen before. What's more, they were only attacking the Imperials, sending the attackers running in confusion.
Yet, despite how intimidating those flying chariots were, they paled to what came next. Charging through the city straight towards the Imperials, was a green knight covered in blood. Though his strange helm covered his face, Delilah couldn't help but shiver at the bloodlust radiating from him. It made her think that perhaps he was an apostle of the gods, for only they could give off such killing intent. And when he collided with the Imperials, his strength was inhuman as he pulverized the soldiers with ease and without mercy.
Delilah was so distracted that she did not see the Imperial charging at her, his shield in front. She barely was able to raise her sword before being knocked to the ground. The soldier was getting ready to impale her before his head was smashed in like paste by a mace. The wielder of said weapon wore green armor similar to the white knights, except with different features such as having horns on the sides of his helm. What shocked Delilah was that he was riding a large armored wolf. Similar riders could be seen passing by, trailed behind by regular size greenish blue wolves. With them were knights riding small chariots that hovered a few inches off the ground. Like before these newcomers were only attacking the Imperials, with the occasional assistance to the Warrior Bunnies.
Her savior seemed to say something she could not understand before riding off after some more Imperials.
"Delilah!" Griine shouted as she rushed to her friend. Her armor and face were covered in blood, as was her sword. Griine helped Delilah to her feet. "Are you okay?"
Delilah nodded. "I'm fine Griine. But who are these people?"
"I-I don't know. They just appeared over the hills." Griine said as the two regrouped with some of their people. "They ignored us and started attacking the Imperials. Are they on our side?"
"Look!" Parna, another Warrior Bunny, shouted from her spot on the walls. Joining her, the rest watched as these newcomers quickly routed the Imperials. Anyone who stood in their path was killed without mercy. And yet, Parna directed their attention to where several newcomers were freeing their captured comrades. They directed said Lagomorphs back to the city while protecting them from the Imperials.
"T-they really are on our side! We're going to survive!" Griine cheered, followed by the others. Some headed out to assist these new allies, while Deliah spotted the green knight heading towards the Imperials' rear…right where Prince Zorzal was.
(Doom Slayer)
The man ripped a soldier's arm off before beating him with it. Once done, he fired his super shotgun and killed a Troll by blowing its head off. Already the enemy was scattering, fearing for their lives as they tried to get far away from the Doom Slayer.
"Slayer!" Roan shouted from the Jet Chariot he was on. The Night Sentinel Captain killed an enemy cavalryman with his crossbow before continuing speaking. "Up ahead appears to be a command tent. King Novik wants their commander captured alive!" Roan finished before heading off to assist their comrades.
Normally, the Slayer would have ignored an order like that. But he had developed respect for the Sentinel King and thus carried them out. Besides, whatever he had planned for the asshole would probably have them wishing for death.
After slaughtering dozens more humans and monsters, he eventually arrived too the command tent. As he made his way forward, what the Doom Slayer saw made his blood boil. Midway to leaving the tent were several men wearing fancy armor, as well as a good dozen soldiers. However, the Slayer's focus was on the tall blonde hair man at the back on a carriage. Said man wore a leopard pattern mantle over regal looking armor, indicating he was the commander. Presently he was hovering over a naked and bruised female humanoid bunny whose hands and legs were bind and her mouth gagged. The man was clearly groping her if the hands on her left breast and right thigh were any indication. The Slayer snarled at this form of mistreatment and brought out the Crucible again. The sight of its red blade terrified several of the soldiers.
"What the hell are you doing?! Kill the bastard!" Prince Zorzal shouted at his men. Despite his bravado, the prince was clearly terrified as well, especially with everything that was going on.
It was all going so well in the beginning. His army, which consisted of five Corps, had easily overwhelmed the Warrior Bunnies during the initial stages of the war. He captured over a hundred of them to be sold as slaves before his army eventually assaulted their city. It was on the second day that scouts had discovered what was recognized as the mythical gate that would normally appear on Alnus Hill, instead not to far away from where he was besieging the Warrior Bunnies. Ignoring the advice from his generals to report this discovery to his father, Zorzal instead ordered a structure to be built over the portal so his armies could march through and conquer the world on the other side. Such an achievement would solidify his position as the next emperor.
The moment it was finished, Zorzal had sent half of his forces through the gate. Though this caused the siege on the Warrior Bunnies to weaken, to the point some of them led by their queen attempted to assassinate him, they were eventually caught and leaving Tyuule at his mercy. It was only afterwards that everything went downhill. Just an hour after they had marched through, the expedition force came fleeing back, most of them injured or driven insane. One of the surviving commanders had reported that at first, they met little resistance and judging by the structures they saw, another battle had recently happened earlier. But soon, the otherworlders struck back at full force. Their weapons, armor and magic were unlike anything seen before, backed up by war beasts and flying chariots and carriages. What really terrified the soldiers, though, was the being leading them, whom the commander best described as an apostle, with strength surpassing that of any mortal.
At first, Zorzal did not believe it, but then said army came charging through, slaughtering anyone who got in their way. They then began saving the Warrior Bunnies while said godlike being came smashing through his forces straight towards his position. This was not supposed to happen. If he cannot turn this around, then Zorzal will become the laughingstock of the capital and the empire.
Hearing their prince's words, some snapped out of their stupor. A few were reluctant to attack, while others charged recklessly, hoping to get lucky and earn some prestige. The Doom Slayer, meanwhile, just charged forward, both hands gripping the Crucible. With a single swing, he decapitated the three closes guards while doing another swing that killed the fourth. He kicked back a fifth guard who fell on his back but had no time to get up as the Slayer brought his boot down on his face, killing him and smearing the ground with his blood and gore.
He swung the Crucible and bisected another guard before cutting off the head of the next one. Some of the remaining guards looked ready to flee, but a glare from Zorzal stopped such thoughts. Instead they all formed a testudo formation, shields in front of them and spears pointing towards the Slayer. They were confident that the beast would not be able to break their defenses.
Imagine their surprise when the Slayer charged straight forward, deactivating the Crucible. His armor broke their spears with ease, and he sent them flying. A few unlucky ones were caught by his fists, their bodies blown to pieces upon each blow. Soon all that were left were the Slayer, Zorzal and Tyuule.
Zorzal grinded his teeth, trying to hide his fear. He had his sword out and pointing it at the Slayer. "Stay where you are, you barbarian! Don't you know who I am?! I am Zorzal El Caesar, Crown Prince of the Saderan Empire! Future Emperor! Attack me and-"
Tired of this idiot's rambling, the Doom Slayer smacked him aside. Following Novik's orders, the Slayer made sure to keep the blow light. All it did was send the blonde hair fool flying several feet, knocking a tooth or two out and rendering him unconscious. With Zorzal out of the way the Slayer turned his attention to the captured Bunny Warrior.
The entire time Tyuule had remained silent. She was torn between scared and hopeful. Scared because even when Zorzal was assaulting her, she could see the devastation that the new army unleashed, and how this man alone was able to eclipse it. For a moment she feared the same fate would fall upon her and her people. And yet, hope came when the man's looked at her (though she couldn't tell with his eyes covered). For some reason, Tyuule felt as though she could trust him. This was proven true when he tore off Zorzal's mantle and, using a discarded knife, removed her bindings. He then covered her naked form with the mantle, preserving her modesty.
One of those hovering carriages approached. The rider was speaking to Tyuule's savior in a language she did not understand. Seconds later the man picked her up bridal style, causing her to let out a surprised "eep!" as he carried her to the carriage. He felt warm, Tyuule took notice of. Warm that he would burn away all her problems in one fell swoop. And the Warrior Bunny Queen felt comfort in that for reasons she could not yet explain.
And done! Hoped you all enjoyed that. Please be sure to leave a review.
A quick rundown of Night Sentinel armory.
The Conscripts, who are criminals, and Night Sentinels warriors wear green Celtic/Galiec style armor with some Norse and Anglo-Saxon inspired features. However, the conscripts are not allowed to become Templars.
The Sentinel Paladins are Argenta who have taken the path of a defender, protecting the people from criminals and invaders. They work alongside the Inquisition. Their armor looks like the Night Sentinel Warriors' but is colored white instead.
The Elite Night Sentinels, the Templars, wear the medieval-type armor seen in the multiplayer, being Knight, Ascendant, Fanatic, and Devout. Only those of Argenta blood can become Templars.
Goryl, or Goryle plural, are those creatures seen on that promotional image where the Doom Slayer is looking at the Night Sentinel army. Goryl is Polish for "gorilla".
Dracones is Latin for "dragons". They are ridden by the Night Sentinel Templars solely.
Wyverns are the lesser cousins of the dragons. They're scales are a blackish gray and the ones seen in that picture that used to be the cover. They are ridden by Night Sentinel Warriors.
Gryphons are ridden by the Night Sentinel Paladins.
Direwolves are a larger sub-species of the Argenta Wolves, used as mounts as mentioned before.
Horses: Night Sentinels also use horses in battle, armored with strong plating that also increase speed. However, the horses are mainly use by farmers and civilians and patrols.
The Jet Chariots are based off the Chitauri Chariots from Marvel.
The Skiffs and War Barges are inspired by the ones seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The crossbows are from the image in Part XII of "History of the Sentinels" where the loyalists looked like they were carrying crossbows.
The Longbows are energy bows from the image in Part XIV.
The Plasma Rifle and Scatter Gun are weapons re-engineered by the Night Sentinels from the Slayer's Plasma Rifle and Combat Shotgun, except the Scatter Gun is energy-based. Excluding the Scatter Gun and Ballista, the other weapons have either Praetor or Astro color skin.
The Hoverbikes are basically bikes that hover. Duh
Quake Weapons are non-energy weapons that vibrate. This sharpen the edges of the bladed variants or release shockwaves for the blunt variants.
Other vehicles, war beasts, and weapons might be introduced later, as well as OC Night Sentinels.
