(Scala Ad Caelum)
A flock of seagulls flew over the ocean towards a massive castle surrounded by countless houses and windmills. There were hundreds of gondolas zipping around through long wires that connected all the castles found in the area. This world was known as the nexus point of all the worlds, and it served as a seat of power for all Keyblade Wielders.
In one of the massive castles, two boys were looking out the window after finishing a game of chess. One had fair skin and black hair tied into a short, high topknot with some of his bangs falling down the right side of his face. He was wearing a white and red lined haori with a hood, along with a light-colored hakama. The other boy had mildly tanned skin and silver hair hanging down onto his shoulders. He wore a black vest with a high collar, long armbands that covered his forearms, and dark grey pants that stuffed into his boots.
The silver-haired boy turned his attention back to the chessboard, where a lone white piece was standing triumphantly over a fallen black piece.
His friend turned his head towards the chessboard as well, before a sudden thought came to his mind.
"Oh. Right!"
He then removed the white piece from the board before placing back the fallen black piece to his friend's side, causing the silver-haired boy to look intrigued.
"What's this?" he asked his friend who happily began to distribute the black pieces on his side of the chessboard again.
"I heard about this new game."
Once the dark-haired boy was done, he looked satisfied and quite excited for what was to come. Meanwhile, his friend looked at the pieces on his side and raised an eyebrow in curiosity. He had no idea what was going on in the mind of the other boy.
"Seven black pieces… and?" he asked, looking up at dark-haired boy before him.
"I'll explain it later on. For now, I want to ask you something." The black-haired answered as he began to arrange the white pieces on his side of the chessboard.
"What is it?"
"Have you heard of the legend of the 'Seven Evil Dragons'?"
The silver-haired boy cupped his chin in deep thought, before shrugging his shoulders. "Can't say that I have."
"It was said that dragons are considered a threat to both light and darkness because of their tremendous size and power that could overwhelm even the strongest Masters. They are both feared and respected by everyone, including Keyblade Wielders."
"Respected?" The silver-haired boy asked in confusion.
"Most dragons are generally neutral, and they aren't a really a threat to anyone. That is, if you don't provoke them first. There are even some dragons that can be befriended and can be powerful allies to aid you, although there's no record of anyone being able to pull off such a feat."
"Interesting… it makes me want to go on a journey to be the first one to befriend a dragon. I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity of gaining a strong ally." the silver-haired boy said with a chuckle.
"Well, good luck with that, and better hope you don't come across an Evil Dragon instead." The other boy snickered.
"What do you mean?"
"I said that most dragons are neutral, except for the Evil Dragons. Those seven dragons desire nothing more than tyranny and destruction, and they're the reason why their kind is seen as a threat by both the light and the dark. As far as I know, they side with no one and I don't think they care about Kingdom Hearts nor what's inside it."
"That's a big problem indeed. Do you think there's a way to stop them in that case?"
A smile broke out on the boy in white's face. "Oh, that's my favorite part of the legend!"
"Huh?"
"Legend has it that thirteen keyblade wielders, regardless of whether they are fighting for the light or the darkness, will come together to defeat the seven Evil Dragons in a war that will decide the fate of the universe."
The boy in black seemed to be deep in thought before he snorted. "Thirteen keyblade wielders… seven Evil Dragons… this sounds awfully familiar, don't you think?"
"I gotcha." The boy in white laughed a bit, knowing what his friend was referring to. "But the stakes are different here, according to the legend."
"How so?"
"Keyblade wielders fought in the Keyblade War over the ownership of light. The war against the Evil Dragons will result in either the prevention or the releasing of a creature far worse that could end the world in the blink of an eye, including Kingdom Hearts. It's something that even the thirteen keyblade wielders don't have the power to stop."
"Another Evil Dragon?"
The dark-haired boy pursed his lips together and shrugged. "No one knows. All the legend says is that that creature is sealed inside a black box, which requires the hearts of the seven Evil Dragons in order to be opened."
"Sounds like checkmate already. Defeat the dragons, you unlock the box and whatever's inside it will be let loose. Fail to stop the dragons, you prevent the box from opening but the destruction that would be left behind by those monsters is unimaginable."
"Maybe. But like I said, there's more to light than meets the eye." the boy in white grinned.
"I know." The boy in black smiled in amusement before crossing his arms. "Still… it's pretty hard to imagine both light and dark coming together to face a common enemy. You sure pick the most interesting things to talk about, Eraqus."
The boy named Eraqus scratched his cheek in embarrassment. "Not really. I just… find it amazing that both light and dark can work together in the face of something more dangerous. It almost sounds like a far-fetched miracle that's impossible to happen."
"It's interesting to think about, that's for sure. You could use it as wisdom for when you become a Keyblade Master."
"Thanks, Xehanort. But now…" Eraqus flashed a determined smirk and looked down at the chessboard, having done with placing his pieces. "...are you ready for this new game?"
The boy named Xehanort turned to the chessboard and his eyes widened slowly when he saw the number of white pieces on his friend's side.
"Thirteen white pieces… hey, that's not fair." He frowned.
"Oh, you'll be pleasantly surprised when I tell you how to play this game." Eraqus grinned once again.
Xehanort's frown disappeared before he flashed a smirk of his own. "Alright then."
Power is something that shouldn't be abused.
I learned that the hard way.
But I have no regrets, even if we're not together anymore.
Because in my heart, we'll always be together, no matter what.

Kingdom Hearts DxD: The Devil of Light
Been there, done that. Let's see where this leads.
Long story short: Sora is transported into the DxD-verse, yeah… whether or not you'll see other Kingdom Hearts characters here remains to be seen.
Goodbye… and good night! BANG! *too sweet gesture*
