-Prologue-
Volturi. A name that if spoken of caused shivers to run down the spines of the people who heard it. The darkness that was emitted from the name alone made it ominous. As well as the power within it. The power of the name evoked fear in those of lesser beings and caused those of higher standards to glance over their shoulder every now and then. For when the Volturi hunted you they would find you one way or another, and when they did it would not be a pleasant reunion. Yes, the name and word Volturi invoked fear in those who heard it, but the true power was held in the rulers. The Three Kings themselves were the cause of such fear. They were the feared rulers of the Vampire World, and no one defied them. Unless that person had a death wish of course. The Three Kings also known as Aro, Marcus and Caius were feared, and that's exactly how they liked it.
Aro was the unofficial leader of the Volturi. He exerts control over the world of vampires, and plots against any opposing coven. He made other vampires realize that it was necessary for them to live in the shadows among humans, and over time turned their species into legends and myths instead of actual facts. To further continue this plan, he and his companions created their own vampires and taught them the laws before letting them loose. He believes, possibly correctly, that the Volturi is necessary for the survival of the vampire species, with its bylaws that hold secrecy of the existence of vampires to the utmost importance.
"Marcus's gift is actually quite valuable in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. For example, imagine Marcus on the battlefield. He sees the binding ties between the enemy the guard faces. He can tell who the leader is just by watching the way the others are tied to him or her. He can see how to destroy the resistance simply by picking off a few key people. He doesn't just see romantic relationships, but also ties of family and friends, loyalty, and devotion. He can tell if any given person would die for another. Off the field of battle (as the Volturi rarely leave their home), Marcus's gift is valuable politically (for lack of a better word). It's an amazing gift in a diplomatic situation. Plus, when you're sitting on an empire, it's nice to be able to see when someone's loyalty starts wavering. Or if anyone is getting too fond of anyone else. Can you see the potential now? Marcus didn't get where he is with some fluff skill."
Which brings the third and final King- who is also known as the Merciless One. Caius is very ambitious and can easily be considered the cruelest of all three leaders, and is seen as never extending mercy to anyone. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, he advocates for the most aggressive methods of handling situations and is usually in favor of executions. He is always at the head of any punitive missions, much to his pleasure.
Yes, The Three Kings were beyond dangerous and ruthless. Which was why if you saw them now you wouldn't be able to believe your eyes...
Volterra, Italy 10 A.D. (First Century)
"No Elizabeth you aren't supposed to eat that," Caius said softly with a shake of his head. He easily picked up the squirming toddler and held her in his arms. "Now give me the wood," he ordered looking at her pointedly, but the little girl wasn't having any of it. As she again tried to squirm her way out of his grasp. "No Elizabeth, I will not let you down until you give me the wood." Shaking his head he couldn't help the soft smile that appears on his face at the sight of her stubbornness. A character trait that reminded him all too well of his darling wife.
"Dear, why must you hassle her? You know she'll give it to you if you ask nicely," Athenadora chided as she appeared by his side with a smile. Looking at the little girl with all of the warmth of the sun in her gaze. "Now sweetheart give mommy the piece of wood," she cooed, her voice growing much softer, and immediately the toddler spits out the wood. Something that causes a smirk to quirk Athenadora's lips.
"Be quiet Dora," Caius muttered as he shifted the toddler on his hip. Rolling his eyes as he turned his gaze away from his mates.
"Oh, you're just jealous because she did what I asked," she sniped back with a small laugh and once again Caius rolled his eyes. "Don't roll your eyes at me!" Dora teased but Caius continued his trek towards the throne room. "Don't walk away from me Caius Volturi!" He heard the playful shout, intermingled with her ever-present laughter, which causes a small smile to flit across his features as he continues walking. His little girl bounced along with him as he went. Upon entering the room, he saw that Aro and Marcus were already seated at their thrones. Suplicia and Didyme seated near them as they conversed quietly amongst themselves. At the base of the dais that the thrones sat upon was Isabella playing with a clay doll.
"Hello Caius," Aro said cheerfully with a smile- a smile that became softer as he turned his gaze towards Elizabeth. "And hello to you too, darling one." Smiling up towards the ancient vampire, Elizabeth's blue eyes shone with happiness at being addressed. Something that always seemed to bring Aro joy at seeing. Shaking his head, Caius places her down next to Isabella and watches as the two girls immediately start playing together. "It warms my heart to see our newest editions together." Aro continued looking at the two girls fondly, and Caius couldn't help but agree. At first, when the two girls had been left at their doorstep in a basket he hadn't wanted them. Not trusting his own nature when in regards to the children. However, that all changed, when Marcus found out the bond that he shared with the beautiful golden-haired one. Even though he had been beyond hesitant about meeting the small child, Marcus had been adamant about him meeting her. Caius still remembered just looking at the blanket that had kept his daughter from his sight. Remembers the slight nod he had given Marcus when he had prepared himself- even though he could have never truly been prepared for the impact that seeing her beautiful blue eyes for the first time had wrought onto him. He was a complete goner from that moment forward. He still was, his Elizabeth had him wrapped around her little finger. He would do anything to keep her safe and he would never let harm befall her. This was why when they turned of age they- Elizabeth and Isabella- would be changed, and become the Principessa's of the Volturi.
Caius glanced over at Marcus and saw that he was watching Isabella with a fatherly gaze, the same one he knew he had whenever he looked upon Elizabeth. "Yes, it warms mine as well. I just can't wait for them to be of age so we can turn them." Caius replied sitting on his throne with the ease of memory.
"Yes I believe we all await that day, but until then our little Principessa's will be kept safe," Marcus agreed, gazing at the girls fondly. Following his gaze, Caius felt a soft smile curl his lips at the sight before him. Elizabeth and Isabella were now sleeping soundly beside each other. Their heartbeats almost perfectly in sync with one another.
"There is nothing in this world that will mess with them. We will make sure of that," Aro said softly and the other two kings nodded their heads in agreement. Their Queens appeared beside them as they stared at the sleeping toddlers, and they all then and there made a promise: To always keep Elizabeth and Isabella safe. No matter the cost.
The years passed in a blur to all of those that lived in Volterra. The two principessa's grew with each passing day, and they were now two beautiful eighteen-year-old girls. Elizabeth had beautiful golden-white hair that fell down to the middle of her back in gentle waves. Reminding all of the sun's rays hitting freshly fallen snow. Her crystalline blue eyes were framed by thick lashes that grazed her high cheekbones every time she blinked. The fairness of her skin caused them to stand out. Rose-red lips were always quirked in a smirk as her gaze assessed everything in sight. A hidden joke dancing across her face that only she would ever be privy to. While Isabella had hair reminiscent of the middle of fall. Brown, gold, and red all combining into a beautiful dark auburn that stood out against the fairness of her complexion. Warm chocolate brown eyes sparkling with joy as her full pinks lips upturned into smiles. The two principessa's were two sides of the same coin. They were as different as they were similar- fire and ice.
The Three Kings, and the other members of the Volturi, watched them both with cautious eyes. Over the years the principessa's place in the Volturi had only solidified further. They were the most important members of the ancient coven. An integral part that they could never live without. A part that they would fight with all their might to keep safe. Fortunately, the day for the principessa's change was coming. The day when they would finally join the world of their family.
"Aro, I believe today should be the day that they're changed," Marcus spoke softly watching as Elizabeth and Isabella ran around the throne room. Laughter passed as easy as air between the two.
"I agree brother, but they need to be ready for it. I will not make them do something they don't want to do. Especially the pain of this caliber that will befall them. It would be better to wait until they're ready," Aro responded wincing slightly as Isabella tripped. Between the two she had always been the clumsier one.
"I will never understand how she can be so graceful but so clumsy," Caius mused with a light chuckle falling from his lips. The other two kings simply nodded in agreement to his assessment.
"Yes they are both mysteries," Aro said. His eyes growing wide as he watched an inevitable scene that was about to transpire. Something that Caius was only privy to a second later when a large crash echoed across the room. Causing his head to snap towards the direction of the noise. Where both Isabella and Elizabeth lay in a pile of wood- said wood being from a small end table. Standing, the three kings begin to make their way towards the two. Aro's voice once again speaks with an almost strained quality to his normally jovial tone. "You know what? Let's just change them before they kill themselves."
The other two kings couldn't help but agree as servants came rushing in to help the principessa's. "Or before their mothers kill us," Marcus muttered. A sentiment that caused Caius to wince ever-so-slightly. Being on the end of Athenadora's ire wasn't something that Caius wanted.
"Let's just go help our children Marcus and your nieces Aro," he said in lew of an answer as he strode towards his daughter and her best friend. His brothers followed closely behind with chuckles passing between the two. At the sight of them, the servant immediately stepped back. Bowing their heads in respect as they stopped before the two. "Are you two all right?" Caius asked standing over them.
Elizabeth grinned. "Yes, we're all right Papà."
"Yes, we're quite fine, uncle," Isabella agreed with a matching grin. Their answers allow Caius to loosen ever-so-slightly. He didn't want to imagine what would have happened if they had been hurt.
"You two will be the death of us," Aro laughed cheerfully as moved to stand beside Caius.
Sighing, Marcus stood on his other side. "That's not something to be cheerful about, Aro."
"We agree to disagree my dear Marcus" Aro responded before turning his attention back to the girls. His smile only grew as he saw their confused expressions. "Now you two need to get prepared for tonight. As the day has finally come for you to be changed."
The news brought the two girls immediately to their feet. "Oh we have been waiting for this day for so long," Isabella cried jumping up and down in excitement. Elizabeth only nodded her head in agreement- even though a smile was beginning to show itself on her lips.
Marcus smiled softly at his excitable daughter. "We have as well, dearest one. Now go get ready." Isabella grinned in response before rushing out of the room with Elizabeth in tow.
"I really hope we know what we're doing," Caius said staring at the spot where his daughter had just disappeared from.
"So do we," Marcus and Aro responded back with just as much softness.
"Oh I can't wait to be changed," Isabella says with a large smile gracing her face. Her hands meticulously arranging her hair into an eccentric updo.
A small scoff came from the other side of the room. Where the only other occupant sat gazing out the window at the grounds below. A book opened in her lap that she was lazily trailing her fingers across the weathered pages. "You do know that this is going to be much more painful than the time we fell off the roof, right?"
Finally satisfied with her hair, Bella turns towards her best friend with a slight frown furrowing her brow. "Of course I know that, Liz. I know that it's going to be painful but at least we're going to finally stop being the weaklings in the family. We're finally going to be able to participate and help."
Sighing, Elizabeth turned to face Bella. Her gaze hardened into ice as she met her best friend's excited features. "Bella, I know that you're excited but I can't be the only one that's seeing the downsides to this entire thing too."
"Like what?" Bella scoffed.
"Like the fact that we won't be in control of our urges. That we'll be no better than rapid animals. When during that time we could very well hurt, or even kill, the people that have taken care of us. Or the fact that it's said that when you're being turned it's like thousands of knives are being stabbed into your skin while your blood boils." Elizabeth replies with a thinly veiled eye roll. A sardonic quality ringing through her tone. "Of course, that's naming a few things to be concerned with."
"You have me there, Liz, but you have to admit it's going to be nice that we'll finally be able to contribute to our family. That we'll finally be able to do all the things that we've dreamed of doing for so long," Bella says with a soft smile as she moves over to sit beside her best friend.
At Bella's words, a thoughtful frown tugs Elizabeth's brow down. "I suppose so Bella but that doesn't make what will happen to us any more pleasant. It has both good things and less tolerable things surrounding it."
Chuckling, Bella gently nudges Elizabeth with her shoulder. "You know Liz, I think one day you will be a scholar of some sort," Bella teased and Elizabeth simply laughed. "Now, come on, I need to get you ready and you know how I love to do that." With another, slightly rougher, nudge Bella directs her friend towards the mirror.
"You know I think you just enjoy torturing me," Elizabeth teased back softly and Bella grinned.
"Me?" She asked with an almost affronted air. Something that fell flat with the amusement that painted itself across her face. "I would never do such a thing to you, Liz."
Shaking her head, Elizabeth glared at her- even though there was no real heat behind it. "Yeah, we'll see about that."
"Have some faith in me, Elizabeth," Bella cried with faux outrage. Her hands dramatically clutching at her chest as she looked at her best friend through the mirror. Laughter clearly danced across her face. "Especially since we will be with one another for the foreseeable future."
Elizabeth groaned softly and was quickly swatted by Bella.
It was going to be a long eternity.
The time came for Elizabeth and Isabella to be changed and the three kings were shaking in anticipation- though Aro always seemed to be somewhat jittery. The throne room was silent as the occupants of the room waiting.
There were two tables situated in the middle of the room with cloth and pillows on them. As they wanted Elizabeth and Isabella to be as comfortable as they could possibly be. The sound of the throne room doors opening causes Caius to look up. He felt his breath catch, which was unnecessary, as he stared at his Elizabeth. Her beautiful golden-white locks were in a beautiful plait off of her left shoulder and her dress hugged her appropriately. He heard Marcus' breath catch as well and couldn't help but smile softly. Yes, their daughters had turned into two gorgeous women and he could never be more proud.
"Papà," Elizabeth called upon seeing him. Her stride was graceful as she moved into his embrace. Her head nuzzling into his shoulder as he kissed her temple gently.
"My beautiful tesoro," Caius murmured lovingly, his hand coming up to gently touch his daughter's face. "All grown up."
"Papà, ti piace mettermi in imbarazzo, vero?" Elizabeth asked with a sigh and Caius just chuckled in response. Turning, Caius could see that Marcus was having a similar discussion with Isabella. A sight that brought a small smile to his lips. Today was a day for great change.
"Papà you know it's rude to eavesdrop," Elizabeth admonished.
"It's only rude when you can help it, and in my case, I can't. So therefore it's not rude," Caius replied and Elizabeth only raised her brow. A sight that causes a small sigh to fall from his lips. She was truly her mother's child. "Fine, you're right it's rude to eavesdrop."
"Thank you Papà," Elizabeth replied, smiling brightly. She turned her attention to a chuckling Aro who quickly stopped when he saw her glare. "That goes for you too uncle."
Aro quickly nodded in understanding.
"It is time," Marcus announced, stepping away from Bella and walking to the two tables. His next words came out in gentle instruction. "If you would lay down."
"Now this will hurt," Aro says with a slight wince at seeing the worry that flashed across their faces. "But we all know that you will be able to make it through that with relative ease."
"Are you ready?" Caius asked and Elizabeth and Isabella looked at each other. A silent conversation passing between the two before they both nodded in confirmation. The three kings looked at one another before Caius gently bit into Elizabeth's neck and Marcus bit into Isabella's neck. Aro taking the girl's wrists into his hands and biting them as well. As the three kings needed to get as much venom circulating as possible. When they were finished both girls were out cold and the three kings felt their undead hearts clench in worry.
"I hope we made the right call. If not their mothers will kill us," Aro murmured with a worried frown. Even though he knew that the girls would be fine, he couldn't help but shudder at what the queen's reactions would be.
"They will get through it," Marcus replied with a confident smile. "I am sure of it."
"Then what do we do now?" Aro asked, staring at the unconscious girl's. Worry still etched onto his features and with a sigh, Caius answered. His words echoing across the silence of the room.
"Now we wait."
A/N: I hope you guys liked the first chapter of Forever Yours. It's a working title, and anyone is free to comment a title they think would better fit this story.
I am also sorry if I showed Elizabeth to much instead of Bella, but I want you to one see the OC, and two see the bad ass Caius be totally whipped. Also the pairing for Bella is Bella/Rosalie, but the pairing for Elizabeth is still undecided, though you can choose from the Poll on my page or on the choices below.
Elizabeth/Tanya
Elizabeth/Irina
Elizabeth/Kate
Also to the ones that don't think mirrors were made in the A.D. era: Metal-coated glass mirrors are said to have been invented in Sidon (modern-day Lebanon) in the first century AD, and glass mirrors backed with gold leaf are mentioned by the Roman author Pliny in his Natural History, written in about 77 AD. The Romans also developed a technique for creating crude mirrors by coating blown glass with molten lead.
Again, I hope you enjoyed it, and I am sorry about all the misspelled/missing words.
