Author Note
While I'm not a huge fan of the Borg I haven't done an evil Gothic in a good long while and this idea popped into my head so I decided to write up a sample chapter and to see if the idea could get any support and ideas offered.
Borg Gothic or Gothic of Borg
Prologue
Borg Probe. Unknown Universe.
While it had been many years since I'd woken up in an unfamiliar place after a night out and I was too young to be going senile it understandable that I got a little freaked after finding myself standing up in an alcove of some kind in a place that was very dark. To make matters worse there were people around me wandering about I couldn't make them out and none of them were talking.
Assimilation Complete
That had been a voice, one in my head but not a part of me or even a single voice, that had been the words of hundreds of voices calling out as one and I could somehow feel their presence as a part of myself. This should have alarmed me yet I felt a soothing influence in my mind keeping me calm as if those voices were supporting me.
"What is going on?" I asked "What happened to me".
I felt different and I could understand why.
We are Borg
Now I understood I was part of new collective I'd been brought here for this purpose by something.
Data Corrupted
The Borg didn't know how I'd gotten here or why I was special.
Unit Is Designated As Commander
I could see myself inside my own mind I did not look like a drone. Rather I looked like a younger, more fitter version of myself. I was dressed in a black body suit with pieces of armour covering me. I also knew that my cybernetics were small and had been placed carefully into my body so I didn't much look like a cyborg.
"Why don't all Borg look like this?" I wondered.
It Would Be An Impractical Use Of Resources.
Well that explained why they didn't put this much effort into the average drone, but why did the Borg care about my appearance.
The Commander Unit Will Speak For The Borg.
So my appearance was an effort to make me look less intimating than a drone or queen. But since when do the Borg care about such things, diplomacy in irrelevant.
The Commander Unit Decides What Is Relevant
"What do you mean by Commander Unit?" was my next question.
I felt myself taking control over the ship, not totally, but I could access its systems. As such I knew that this was a Borg probe there smallest class of combat capable vessel.
Speed: Transwarp drive
Armament: Torpedoes, beam weapons
Defences: Hull armour, shields, multi-regenerative security fields
I then discovered something very interesting about Borg ships. Borg vessels don't just assimilate other space craft or even settlements just to acquire new drones and technology they use the mass of those vessels to increase their own. That meant with enough time and resources this Borg probe would grow into a sphere and then a cube, and that cube could spit out probes or entire spheres which would go on acquire more materials. As the Borg didn't have shipyards because their ships made new vessels.
So if I wanted my ship to become an unstoppable cube I'd need to assimilate a lot of people and technology. The idea of doing so didn't bother me, in fact I felt pleased by the idea despite the fact that I would be destroying lives.
"Morality is irrelevant" I muttered to myself.
I was accepting all of this far too easily and the only explanation for that was that something had really messed with my head.
"Where are we?" I asked.
Verbal communication wasn't required it was simply force of habit to ask out loud.
Unknown
I found myself drawn to what passed for a bridge here on the probe which was really just a throne of some kind made of black metal that I could sit on. As soon as I did screens and readouts appeared. This allowed me decide what information I took in rather than have the Collective shove things into my head directly. The cyborgs had really gone to an effort to make things easier for me and I didn't understand why.
Data Unknown
That wasn't helpful at all.
"Any theories?" I asked.
Their Is A Reasonable Probability That This Is The Work Of Q Or A Similar Entity
So Q or one of those Robes I've heard about on the Internet did this. They took a Star Trek fan, who isn't a big lover of the Borg, gave me a Borg ship to command and dumped in what seemed to be an empty void that we could leave.
Incorrect We Can Leave
While that was good to hear having a conversation with the small Collective I was supposed to be commanding didn't really suit me.
"I want a single drone who I can speak to" I decided.
That had worked for Janeway and thinking of that time led me to think of Seven of Nine who has it turned out was on this ship or some version of her at least. Now I knew for sure that this had to be one of the those ROB creatures as Seven of Nine looked as she did in the show. She wore a tight bodysuit and her cybernetics were as I remembered them.
"I will speak for the Borg" she said "And assist you in anyway you require".
If not for the soothing influence of the Collective which kept me calm I felt fairly sure that I'd be having some sort of panic attack by this point because Seven of Nine was even more attractive in person and she willing to do whatever I wanted. This was all so crazy.
"You mentioned something about leaving this place" I was now saying.
Given that we were floating in a featureless void then it would be a good idea to go elsewhere as if nothing else I'd get bored.
"The Borg have used a series of artificially created quantum singularities as interdimensional rifts in order to gain access to other universes" I was informed "One of the dimensions found was fluidic space and due to that disaster the Borg have stopped using this technology. However we can avoid fluidic space if you wish to risk opening up an interdimensional rift. We will have no way of knowing where it leads until the rift is opened and once we have opened a rift we will be able to access that dimension at will via the use of a focused graviton beam".
So if we ended up somewhere hostile and weren't destroyed outright we could retreat to this void and try again. Good to know.
"Alright let's give it a try" I said.
The Collective Must Grow
Yes my influence must expand, my power must increase, and I wanted more hot cyborg babes at my side.
