First and foremost, thank you all for your encouraging reviews.
My plan before was to go with the director's cut format to prevent a cluster of chapters but then I thought over it again and meh... why not make as many chapters as possible and I'll aim to break the record of the highest chapters in a Re: Zero fanfiction story lmao. Jokes aside, I hope you all will enjoy this chapter. Thus, this chapter will contain only episode 0 from the og anime. How slothful of me to not go for the director's cut version.
Please note that by "Master" in italics, Shaula refers to her previous master, Flugel.
"H... Hey, M-Minerva. W-Why are... we h-here along with... e-everyone? Do we h-have to watch t-this viewing... as w-well?" A pale-pink-haired witch queried towards the Witch of Wrath.
"No clue. I'd like to know myself. I do not know why we were even summoned here," Minerva replied, absent-minded. She was too busy gazing at Emilia with a glint of sadness in her eyes.
Out of the Seven Witches of Sin, three of them were summoned here, somehow, mysteriously. The even bigger shock was that they could feel all of their memories coming back to them, the crystal clear memories which have faded out since their death.
Neither knew why this was happening. They had one theory that whoever summoned them here had cleansed and imprinted their Books of the Dead in their souls. In other words, they could feel their fleshy body once again, which means some unknown entity has granted them resurrection and the best part of it was all of their long-lost memories were returning to them slowly.
A moment which should have been a moment of happiness for the three witches, for they had been granted another chance at life, but confusion took over their happiness.
Minerva tried her best to keep herself cool and composed. For a few minutes, she was delighted that she's no longer stuck in Echidna's Castle of Dreams, the most tiresome place in the world for her. It was truly the most boring place to live in.
Now that she was well and alive once again, she wanted to go to the outside world and recommence healing everyone, something which she hadn't done for 400 years.
Even after she was dead, she wanted to heal more and more. Sadly, it was really, really rare for somebody to visit the Castle of Dreams and the only time if someone received an injury was because of Typhon's ability or participating in self-harm, like that idiot Natsuki Subaru.
"I really do not know what connection any of us have to do with this so-called viewing but I'm not complaining about us getting another shot at life."
Carmilla, Typhon and Minerva quickly put two and two together and found out who was behind this fiasco. Right after this being named Suzuki Satoru introduced himself.
The power of this guy was no joke. He had summoned three Witches of Sin easily in the blink of an eye and granted them resurrection. Not to mention they were souls trapped in The Castle of Dreams. For one to pull off such a feat like this would require impossible amounts of tremendous power.
It barely bothered Typhon, though. She displayed no signs of feeling worried that she just got summoned into this unknown theatre. Well, she might have been concerned if it weren't for her emotional age, feeling her body again after 300 years and the fact that other people were present in the theatre too.
"Nerva! Nerva! Look, so many people! I wonder if any of those are sinners. I can't wait to punish them!" Typhon skipped in joy. It had been nearly 400 years since she last judged a sinner.
The last person Typhon judged was Baru, but he was a good human being and had a pure heart. She had met only two people in her whole life with such a good heart. One was Baru and the other was Flu (Flugel).
"Not a chance, Typhon! I'm not allowing you to judge and kill anyone. Not in my presence!" Minerva responded.
"Muu~ Nerva, you suck!" Typhon spat back. Minerva made Typhon upset because she wouldn't let her judge anyone.
To anyone, it'd seem absurd that the most powerful evil beings, also known as Witches of Sins, are squabbling like immature little kids.
Thankfully, the three witches were in the topmost balcony seats, where spotting them was really tough, though one could if they tried hard enough.
"Um, g-guys! Let's not f-fight over such... s-silly topics!" Carmilla interrupted.
Both Minerva and Typhon heeded Carmilla's call and settled down. Typhon was still upset. But Minerva can't stop her! She'll judge at least one person here, either by hook or by crook.
Carmilla exhaled a sigh of relief. She was thankful to herself for successfully stopping the fight between Minerva and Typhon. She had many traumatic experiences of people fighting with each other in her life.
Minerva and Typhon settled down, not wanting to speak with each other for a few minutes.
After they settled their quarrel, they found out that the screen hadn't been loaded yet.
Soon, the three witches and everyone in the theatre heard the voice of the one and only Ainz (Suzuki Satoru).
"If someone talks during the viewing, the screen pauses and makes it comfortable for everybody to discuss important stuff," Ainz informed.
"Uh... but Ainz-san, I don't think anyone here has talked yet?" Emilia questioned.
Ainz ignored her question.
"Well, I have my duties to attend to. So I'm going for now, enjoy yourselves and if there are any serious problems, call for me."
Everyone nodded their heads. The three witches did as well, unconsciously. Nice etiquette.
"Please don't turn this place into a shitshow, guys," Ainz thought to himself.
The screen loaded once again...
(Ah shit, here we go again)
"Here we go," Everyone thought. (Except the witches.)
"Even though this place seems luxurious, I want to get out of this place as soon as possible and heal as many as I can now that I'm finally free!" Minerva thought to herself.
"I hope this viewing interests Nerva so that I can sneak away, and judge some people, hehe!" That was all Typhon could think of.
"Let's see how important this viewing will be since Satoru Suzuki teleported everyone here to just merely watch it."
The Witch of Lust thought.
The screen had finished its loading process, and the show started.
Someone was struggling to breathe. Painful gasps soon followed.
"Wha-?" Minerva hated to see someone in pain and not being able to do anything.
Felix was in a similar state to Minerva as well. All healers have one trait in common: discovering someone in pain and not being able to do anything irritates them.
The voice alerted Julius and Reinhard.
Emilia felt worried for the person on the screen, even though she didn't know who it was. (E. M. T!)
"This is bad... Very bad..." a voice rather familiar spoke out in pain.
Most of the Emilia camp instantly figured out the owner of the voice. Some of them were now anxious and sweating bullets.
"Subaru?! What happened to you?!" Emilia muttered to herself. Her heart was beating fast now, and Subaru's absence made things worse.
"Hmm… seems like he was attacked," Roswaal murmured.
The events on the screen worried Beako.
"This might be artificial," She thought to herself, trying to calm her nerves as she finally figured out the owner of the voice.
"Cap'n… no," Garfiel muttered.
"Natsuki-san... what the hell happened?" Otto muttered to himself.
Wilhelm, Crusch, Reinhard, Felix and Julius found the voice rather familiar.
"Subaru? What's wrong?" A voice identical to Emilia asked, with a tone of worry in her voice.
The cast went agape immediately as they ultimately identified the owner of the two voices.
"MASTER!" "SUBARU-KUN!" Shaula and Rem were the first ones to yell out.
Both Shaula and Rem loved Subaru completely. Neither paid attention to each other, as catching the sight of their beloved in pain made them worried. The screen made Ram disturbed.
"Emilia-sama, have you encountered a scenario like this before?" An alarmed-looking Crusch questioned her.
"N-NO! I remember none of this h-happening!"
Emilia was now distressed. "If I'm near Subaru, I can still heal and help him, right?"
"I don't think we should take this seriously. This might be fake, chances are likely that it's all artificial I suppose."
Beatrice shared her thoughts to soothe everyone's nerves.
Even though Beatrice thought that the viewing was a fake, she swore she'll stay with Subaru all the time from now on, even if it meant losing her life.
That seemed to work out. Everyone relaxed once again.
Meanwhile, the witches now guessed what was about to be shown to them.
"Baru..." Typhon was getting worried about him.
Minerva sighed. She watched the boy's adventure for some time along with Echidna in the Sanctuary, but that didn't last long. She soon got bored because of his lack of self-worth and soon stopped watching. But she never knew about the boy's history and where he came from.
She never knew of him until he stepped his foot at the sanctuary. So maybe it's worth a shot to view how he met Emilia and his history.
Carmilla slightly craved to understand the boy after she last met him.
As for Typhon, she fairly liked Baru and didn't mind witnessing his story.
Carmilla, Typhon and Minerva had one thing in common: coming to know about the boy during the Sanctuary events. They never knew much about the boy before that, unlike Echidna. All they knew was he assumed he should be the only one to suffer, and he has the Envy authority, which he named Return by Death.
This was a perfect chance for them to learn more about the boy, each one of them having a different reason to do so.
The screen changed scenes.
In a convenience store, the screen shows Subaru reading a manga.
Al felt a wave of nostalgia hit him after he saw the convenience store.
"Ah bro, so this is how your last day on Earth went, eh?" Al thought to himself.
Emilia was terrified. "Subaru… is it true that your life was a living hell, just like Ainz said? You shouldn't be the one on the focus behind this viewing! I can't believe this!"
"Why… w-why didn't you ever tell me about your sufferings? I thought we were all supposed to share the burdens together? Why…?" was all Emilia could mutter, still not believing at the events exposing before her.
Subaru flipped a page. "Ah, I see. This is where they suck you in."
"Uh... sucked in? What did he mean by that?" Felt asked everyone.
"Master is referring to the manga he is reading," Shaula answered rapidly, stunning everyone.
How did she know the answer to it and what is a "manga"? And did they just hear her referring to Subaru as her master?
Shaula surprised most of the people in the theatre, except most of the Emilia and Anastasia camp, who already knew a few answers to their questions.
If one's studying and reading something, then it has to be a book, so most of the cast (except Al, Beatrice and Shaula) thought Subaru was reading some kind of story in there, which wasn't really wrong but not correct as well.
Beatrice was more startled than anyone else. Shaula just answered the question with the exact answer Beako knew of. Subaru always talked about stuff from his homeland with her whenever he got the time to.
It was then she finally figured out that he hails from beyond the Great Waterfall since a country like Japan and stuff like video games, manga, mayonnaise never existed in her world.
She didn't even know about them until Subaru told her the stories and folklore about his homeland a few times.
To see someone else snatch away the answer from her was infuriating her. Oh well, Beatrice made an exception this time.
"After all, Shaula was the apprentice of the great sage, so she might have some knowledge of the world beyond the great waterfall, I suppose," she thought.
The scene changes again.
Subaru's hand is displayed, a pool of blood flowing out underneath it slowly.
"The wound is fatal!" Felix yelled, feeling irritated with each passing second.
Beatrice tried covering her eyes and got ready to prepare for the worst.
Emilia berated herself. "Why am I so useless? What was I doing?"
Minerva was furious. She wanted to do nothing but heal Subaru right now. She would have held Typhon's eyes, but it wasn't her job, it was Sekhmet's job. Well, she would still do it if it weren't for their dispute a few minutes ago.
"Baru? What's happening?" Typhon asked innocently while tilting her head.
The scene changes again.
The screen displays Subaru once again. He is still reading the manga.
A couple soon passes by the shop. Subaru takes a peek at them and sighs to himself.
"Somebody's jealous," Al teased.
If not for the previous scenes, many would laugh at Al's comment.
A second later, he puts the book back on the shelf and heads towards the foods section.
"They seem like food, yay! Mimi is hungry!" Mimi bounced from her seat, enjoying the sight of food.
Emilia's body fell right beside Subaru, exactly where his arm was. She let out a brief shriek of pain.
Emilia couldn't believe what she was watching. She covered her mouth with her right hand as her guilt of not being able to save her knight ate her away, combined with the fear of dying.
Minerva gritted her teeth as she saw Emilia's death on-screen. "Who… just who did this..." She was now having a hard time controlling her anger.
The scene changes once again. "Nah not natto," Subaru says as he places the box of Miso natto back and picks up a packet of corn potato chips instead. He walks towards the cashier.
"That packet looks rather familiar. Was it the one I won at the Roswaal Mansion's ChikiChiki snow festival competition?" Petra thought to herself.
"Wait there..." Subaru said. It was clear by the tone of his voice that he was in great pain at the moment.
Subaru deliberately and determinedly attempted his best to make it to Emilia's hand in order to grasp it.
"What the hell is going on?!" Otto begged for answers.
"A viewing from the past I suppose."
The scene changed scenes once again.
"That will be 363 yen," the cashier told Subaru.
"The scene changing every time is getting annoying!" Mimi shared her thoughts, annoyed with the screen-sama.
Both Petra and Felt agreed.
"While it's true that it is rather troublesome, we have no other options but to continue watching as I doubt Satoru Suzuki would let us out of here without watching this viewing," Crusch told everyone.
Many nodded and chose to continue watching as all of them were equally confused about the shit happening.
"Though, what's a "yen" ?" a curious Petra asked.
"Since the boy's exchanging those yen for foods n' stuff, it looks like it's the currency he uses there," Ricardo replied but he suddenly paused. "Wait… there?"
Subaru reaches for his purse in his pocket and pulls out a coin.
"Oh, a grooved edge 10."
He placed the coin back in his purse and paid the cashier the remaining amount.
The screen shows Subaru walking out of the shop, a car soon passes by.
"Wait... this place doesn't seem like it exists anywhere in Lugunica, Kararagi, Gusteko or Vollachia!" Julius exclaimed.
Everyone was so deeply engrossed over the previous scenes that they completely ignored the place Subaru was in. Now that they thought more about it, they never paid attention to the foods that Subaru was purchasing, it seemed much different from theirs.
Priscilla already knew that Subaru was from beyond the Great Waterfall like Aldebaran, but sadly, she had no intention to explain that to these fools since it would merely be a waste of time for her. Thankfully for her, someone else did.
"Hmph, I find it amusing that none of you figured this out by now. My Subaru hails from beyond the Great Waterfall," Beatrice announced to everyone, with a tone of pride in her voice.
Most of the people who didn't know about this had their jaws wide open. Literally.
"Baru is from another world! Ne, ne... did you know about this Milla and Nerva?"
It literally overjoyed Typhon for who knows what reason. Nobody can comprehend the mind of kids.
"I'm s-surprised as... w-well b-but I had suspicions... of it... b-before," Carmilla replied.
Minerva would have answered Typhon's question as well, but her mind wasn't working at its best after she got a glimpse of Emilia's death.
"I guess Nerva is still angry about our fight before," Typhon thought.
"Well, I guess this makes me see Natsuki-kun in a whole new light," Anastasia stated. She was rather excited about knowing more things about Subaru's world so that she could benefit from it.
"Fascinating... I thought he was a foreigner to Lugunica, but I never imagined he was a foreigner to our world itself," Crusch mused.
Emilia and Rem were rather upset at the fact that Subaru had never told them about him originating from a different world.
Garfiel and Otto knew their brother was a cool guy, but after they saw this... well, in their eyes, he's literally one of the coolest guys in the world to them now.
A dark-blueish-haired child was quiet because everything, literally everything, was confusing to her. She did not know what this scary guy Satoru wanted from them; she did not know why he wanted everyone to get a glimpse of onii-san dying and finally; she did not know what was even going on with the screen changing scenes within each passing second.
She would stay like this, but a certain vehicle caught her attention. "Hey, does anyone know what is that thing that just passed by onii-san?" She asked everyone.
Nobody had an answer to this except Al, Beatrice, and Shaula. Al was about to answer, but then he saw a keen look in the eyes of the half-naked girl and remained quiet. After all, he didn't want everyone to know he was from a different world as well... not yet.
Beatrice had almost answered the question, but Shaula beat her to it.
"In Master's world, a car is a four-wheeled vehicle that is powered by an engine and can carry a few people. Consider it to be a dragon cart, but 100 times more advanced," Shaula explained.
It irritated Beako once again. She will surely get her revenge!
"Seems like I underestimated her. She's got some terrific knowledge about the world beyond the Great Waterfall."
Shaula, sensing Beatrice's thoughts, threw a smug look at the chibiko which irritated Beatrice even more.
This time, it was Shaula who was more pleased than ever. She won't let a little girl beat her in the knowledge about things from her master's world, she's the closest to master and she'll prove it!
They both gave each other a hostile look and thus the battle of knowledge of the otherworldly world began between a 400-year-old humanoid demon beast and a 400-year-old artificial great spirit.
Meanwhile, the others were too preoccupied with their thoughts of how advanced Subaru's world must be. Reinhard was the one who was impressed the most.
Subaru's hand almost reaches Emilia's. "I'm… going to…" the tone of his voice clarified that he was on death's doorstep.
Subaru's face is finally revealed. Blood was leaking from his mouth.
Just when things were calming down, and they forgot about the previous events, the screen trolled them and brought them back to where they were.
"S-S-Subaru-kun…" Rem was utterly terrified witnessing her hero in such a state. As for Ram, she had a neutral face, but Rem could tell she had a look of concern.
"Subaru! NO!" Beatrice shrieked. Even though this might be fake, she could never stand watching her contractor suffer!
Emilia held her hands over her mouth, shocked at the state Subaru was in. "Wh-wh-why!" was all that came from her.
Julius and Reinhard bore looks similar to Emilia. It completely baffled both over noticing their dear friend in such a state as this.
Wilhelm and Crusch tried comprehending the situation shown before them on the screen.
Frederica attempted to cover Petra's eyes, but it was too late. She had already seen everything. "Wha… what's going on?!" Petra begged for answers, she'll surely have hallucinations after seeing her hero in such a state.
"What's happening with big bro?!"
"Cap'n…"
"Natsuki-san…"
Subaru takes a brief look at the direction of the car which just sped past him.
"I really agree with Mimi now, th' screen changing scenes are getting on my nerves," Anastasia spoke up and sighed.
The screen suddenly revealed a malicious-looking,black-coloured claw appearing out of nowhere, aiming straight for Subaru.
"UWAAAAAH," the children squealed, frightened.
Reinhard, Julius and Felix were suddenly alerted at the hand appearing out of nowhere, whereas Al froze.
Julius suddenly recalled something important. "This claw looks similar to that of sloth. Could it be his doing? But didn't Subaru and I successfully annihilate him?"
Beatrice glared at the hand. She will memorize everything about this hand so that in the future, it won't be able to harm her Subaru.
Emilia… she just shuddered. One look at that ominous hand gave her some sort of creeps.
The two of the three witches immediately went rigid upon seeing the hand. Typhon was just too busy devising a plan to judge the people below, especially Roswaal.
"Satella… wait no, this is surely the Witch of Envy's doing," Minerva muttered.
"… save you."
Subaru continued his walk once again, but space-time distortions could be seen surrounding him.
He sensed something and looked around.
"I guess anyone's eyes would be tired after holing up in their room, gaming all day," He said, rubbing his eye
"Gaming? What is that?" Anastasia was the first one to inquire.
"Gaming is-" Shaula spoke, but a certain Great Spirit interrupted her and beat her to it.
"In Subaru's world, games are of two types: Digital and Physical. Physical games are games played using the body and require strength, such as sprinting, sword fight which he calls "kendo" in his hometown whereas digital games don't require any sort of physical attributes and can be played if you're experienced enough. They often are addictive in fact."
Beatrice ultimately got her revenge but not yet, despite her insufficient knowledge of Subaru's homeland, she knows nothing outside of the trending category yet, therein lies the problem. If they would ask anything outside of the trendy category, she'd be in trouble. But it satisfied her for now, and she threw a smug look at Shaula.
Shaula, irritated, countered back. "Your parents should guide you better to not interrupt adults when they are talking~"
Both pouted and looked away from each other. This battle was only the beginning. Shaula will not let this chibiko defeat her in the knowledge of her master's world.
Julius was more interested in this concept of "gaming" in Subaru's world. "So Beatrice-sama, you mean to say the physical games in Subaru's world are identical to ours?"
"Yes, but the only difference is that no lives are lost, and it's much safer for the participants whereas here, you might lose your life in one game if not cautious enough, I suppose."
"Oh, his world seems to be more advanced than ours then."
"A hundred times more advanced, I suppose."
And of course, everyone was taken aback by Beatrice's statement.
"This digital gamin' seems interestin' to me," Anastasia thought to herself. "Beatrice. If ya may, can ya tell us th' names of some digital gamin' stuff?"
"Hmph, normally I wouldn't, but since you're pleading for it, I can make an exception, I suppose. A few digital games called Moancraft and Call of Duty are really popular in his world."
The names of the digital games caught Anastasia's interest, and she noted the names down in her notebook. "Gonna hafta know more 'bout it later."
Rem was kind of surprised. Since when did Beatrice get so close to Subaru?
"I realllly wish I could try out those digital games," Emilia thought.
"Hmm~ I thought the name of the game was Minecraft?" Shaula inquired Beatrice.
Beatrice froze.
The great spirit of the forbidden library suddenly recalled that evening where Subaru told her about the popular digital games from his world to pass the time.
She clearly remembered now that he called it "Minecraft" and not "Moancraft". Well, what's done is done. As much as she hated providing wrong information, she'd have to make an exception this time and play along since her pride as Subaru's spirit was on the line. She'd have to be careful of Reinhard and Crusch's Divine Protection of Wind Indication to avoid getting caught.
The half-naked girl, Shaula, was confused. Her master told her about the names of a few digital games from his world a few times, but she faintly remembered it as she was busy trying to cuddle him.
Though on one chilly evening, she somehow clearly recalled her master talking about the concept of digital gaming as she cuddled him.
He was too lost in his thoughts, fondly recalling his previous world to care about Shaula.
He told her about a really popular game from his world which was called "Minecraft" and not "Moancraft" which she didn't forget till now.
Thankfully for Beatrice, Shaula shrugged it off and thought that the names might have changed by now as it has been 400 years after all.
To see Shaula making no objections, Betty breathed a sigh of relief internally. Everyone returned to watch the viewing on the screen.
He tried to open his eyes again, but his surroundings were devoid of any colour, consisting of just plain darkness.
"What th' hell's happenin'! My amazin' selfs instincts tellin' me it's something dangerous for Cap'n!"
"I agree with Garf, something isn't right," Ram added
"This is it," Beatrice thought. "Betty will examine this thing very carefully and save you Subaru!"
Light started pouring back into his eyes and he slowly opened them, but he was in for a surprise.
It was no longer night time anymore. He spotted demi-humans and humans alike.
Subaru had an astounded look on his face as he started scanning his surroundings.
"What's going on?"
Subaru was confused, he didn't know what just happened.
"Ahaa~ So this is how you were summoned here Subaru-kun," Roswaal thought.
"WAIT! SO THIS IS HOW HE WAS SUMMONED HERE I SUPPOSE!" Beatrice exclaimed immediately. This made more sense to her now.
They weren't viewing something fake currently. In fact, they were viewing the past of how Subaru was summoned in here… which meant the scenes that were shown before had already happened!
It crushed Beatrice; she was on the verge of tears. She didn't want to believe that she failed to protect her contractor but... Subaru was alive, wasn't he?
"Ah. This really makes sense now. I always found his clothing and behaviour weird. Not to mention he comes up with weird sentences like never let curry udon stain your clothes or something," Julius commented.
"The way Subaru-dono was summoned in our world is a kind of extraordinary but not to mention, him hailing from beyond the Great Waterfall is a surprise in itself," Wilhelm shared his thoughts.
"Master got summoned in a rather uncommon way, tehehe! At least he didn't die of fright from truck-sama while trying to save a girl." (I know, Konosuba ref lol)
"So tha' black-clawed thingy summoned Cap'n here? My amazin' selfs gotta thank 'em though."
Many couldn't help but agree. They knew it wasn't a great thing to say for Subaru but if not for Subaru and his efforts, nearly all of them would have been in serious trouble by now and the Sin Archbishops of Greed and Sloth would still exist and roam free, causing destruction everywhere.
Beako knew how important Subaru had been in her life, getting her out of the library.
Emilia knew how important Subaru had been in her life, saving her from time to time again.
Rem knew how important Subaru-kun had been in her life, thawing her frozen heart and moving her stopped time back again after that fiery night.
Petra knew how important Subaru had been in her life, making her feel the genuine emotions of love and also saving her and the villagers' lives several times while risking his.
Garfiel looked up to his Cap'n, and he knew it was because of his Cap'n he moved on and found a new meaning in life.
Otto was glad he could meet and be friends with someone as great as Natsuki-san. Though he teases him a lot often, Otto knew that's just what close friends do.
Crusch's respect for the boy grew after the fall of The White Whale. It was because of him they could survive and achieve victory over the White Whale.
Wilhelm considered Subaru his very own grandson. Subaru was the sole reason White Whale was defeated.
Julius considered Subaru as a dear friend. He was the only one who helped him stand back on his feet and gave him the courage to fight with Reid again.
Reinhard respected Subaru a lot. His respect for him grew further at Priestella. He was also one of the few people who were always themselves around Reinhard, which the latter appreciated.
Felt respected her big bro. If not for him, she'd probably be dead at the loot house.
"So it was true… life must have been hard for you in this new world, right Subaru?"
Emilia was not in her best state after figuring out that "the person who had to endure hell for them" was none other than her knight, Subaru.
"Hey, weren't we summoned in this theatre the same way big bro got summoned in our world?" Felt asked.
Eyes widened. "Does it mean… it was Ainz who summoned Subaru in our world?" Reinhard stated his thoughts.
"It is unlikely. There are many powerful beings out there who can do the same, I suppose," Beatrice explained.
"I guess we'll have to watch," Crusch said.
"This stuff obviously isn't fake," He said as his face still bore the look of shock.
"Which means…"
Light made its way back to his melancholic eyes.
"Wait what? Big bro is actually happy about getting summoned into our world; an unknown land?!" Felt exclaimed, surprised.
"Ugh, I can't understand this boy! He's indeed happy about getting summoned to another world without thinking of the troubles that come along!" Minerva groaned.
"So does this mean… I've been summoned into a parallel world?!" He finished as he finally realized his situation. He seemed delighted to know of this information.
"Hmm… he really isn't troubled about the fact that he just got summoned into a parallel world," Al commented.
"Holy shit, Cap'n is actually smilin'! What a cool man!" Garfiel said with stars in his eyes. The calmness of his cool captain impressed him a lot. If he were in the place of his boss, he might have gotten an anxiety attack by now.
But the more mature ones understood what the smile on his face really meant. And of course, a 400-year-old air-headed girl was an exception.
"Could it mean that Subaru-sama wasn't treated really well back in his homeland or didn't do great there?" Frederica wondered.
"It's kinda unfair if big bro wasn't treated well back in his homeland. He is such a cool guy!" Felt said.
"He doesn't seem to miss his previous homeland or his parents even by a bit," Reinhard observed.
"Could it really mean that Subaru-kun wasn't doing really great in his world?" Rem asked, to which Ram shrugged.
"He is Barusu after all. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a failure back in his homeland."
Meanwhile...
"Betty was sure that Subaru hails from beyond the Great Waterfall, in fact."
"Wait but why didn't he tell any of us about his situation? It's horrible how he suddenly had to break apart from his parents and friends, right? They must be sooo worried about him!" Emilia said.
"I mean if I were him, I'd keep my origins a secret as well," Al said, shrugging.
"It's understandable. If he revealed he was someone coming from beyond the Great Waterfall, people would surely try to take advantage of him and perhaps Subaru-dono didn't want any of you to give him special treatment," Wilhelm stated his thoughts out loud and clear.
"Yeah, that sounds like Natsuki-san, alright," Otto agreed.
"But we wouldn't try to take advantage of Subaru-kun right? He knows it as well, so why didn't he tell us about it?" Rem queried, shocked that her hero never told her he was someone from beyond the Great Waterfall.
"Yeah! I agree with Rem-san! He could have at least told us about it! Doesn't he trust us at all?" Emilia queried, hurt that her knight didn't choose to trust her with this piece of information.
"Let me clear up a common misunderstanding between you all, in fact. Subaru didn't tell you he's someone from beyond the Great Waterfall directly but he gave you all hints about stuff from his world indirectly, right? You are the ones to blame for never trying to comprehend what he is trying to say and shrugging it off, thinking that he is weird," Beatrice clarified, shutting up almost everyone who complained that Subaru didn't trust them.
Emilia's eyes widened. Beatrice explained everything accurately. It was her fault that she never once gave enough thought to what Subaru was sprouting around often and just shrugged it off, thinking him to be weird as always.
The words of Beatrice hurt Emilia, Rem, Petra, and Otto, who were all complaining about Subaru not trusting them enough. It wasn't him that didn't trust them; it was they who ignored him all this time.
"Great Spirit-sama is correct. Subaru used uncommon words around me often as well, but I never tried to ask nor comprehend him." Julius grimaced.
"Poor big bro…"
The title of the show is finally revealed.
Re: Zero Life in a different world from zero.
"Re... Zero?" Emilia mumbled, still upset over herself for always shrugging off her knight.
A gold-haired loli is seen sprinting at full speed, leaping from rooftops to rooftops and carriages to carriages while holding an insignia in her hand.
"That's Felt-sama!" Reinhard noticed.
"Uh-oh, I think I know now when exactly big bro was summoned in our world…" Felt murmured.
Having a glimpse of what was on Felt's hand, Emilia stiffened. It meant they had to meet the Bowel Hunter Elsa but thankfully, Reinhard saved them from death's door.
Julius and Felix, being the knights they were, noticed something. "What's the insignia doing in her hand?"
Reinhard frowned. He now knew the day when Subaru was summoned here. The day he fought with the Bowel Hunter.
"Hey, that's my insignia! I think I know when exactly Subaru was summoned to our world!" Emilia said, surprising many.
"Emilia-sama, why is your insignia with Felt-sama?" Julius inquired, puzzled.
"Uh… that's because she stole it," Emilia answered.
"What! Why?!" Both Julius and Felix exclaimed at the same time.
The other royal candidates were surprised at the information.
"That's what is expected from a rotten slum dweller," Priscilla stated, smirking behind her fan.
Felt chose to ignore Vollachia's ass and apologized to Emilia instead.
"I'm so sorry big sis, because of me, both you and big bro could have been caught up in trouble."
"It's all right, Felt-chan! I've already forgiven you. Don't repeat such things though," Emilia reassured and then gave a light scolding to Felt.
The scene changes back to Subaru, who's still examining his surroundings.
"I guess I can assume this is a fantasy world with the typical medieval-style culture," Subaru examined.
"If I'm correct, the word medieval sounds like middle-aged to me," Crush stated.
"You're not wrong, I suppose."
He turns around, looking at a demihuman.
"A realm where demihumans are commonplace, and stuff like wars and adventures, as well."
"Wait! Subaru-kun's world has no demi-humans?!" Rem was the first one to exclaim in shock.
"It's really shyoking!" Felix exclaimed.
"Mhm! Master once told me that demi-humans, onis and elves don't exist in his world at all, they exist only in tales!" Shaula explained.
"No wonder Subaru-kun said that he always wanted to talk with an oni," Rem said, recalling some fond memories she had with her hero.
"His world must have no discrimination then…" a silver-haired half-elf muttered.
"That's a parallel world for you!" Petra giggled.
"And here, I'm…"
Just as Subaru was about to finish his sentence, someone interrupted.
"Hey!"
"Watch out!"
Subaru turned around and saw a kid on the street, who was almost about to get run over by a dragon cart.
"Oh no!" (To make this funny, think of it as the "Oh no!" from kid pix lol)
"This is it! It's my turn! This must be the event where I produce my first magic!" Subaru spoke as he saw this as a perfect opportunity to awaken his hidden "magical" abilities.
He started doing weird but cool poses and held his hand towards the kid's direction and hollered a "HAAA"…
… nothing happened.
Garfiel and Otto facepalmed.
"Cap'n ya are embarrassin' me."
"Natsuki-san, come on!"
Luckily, a knight suddenly appeared and saved the boy from certain death.
"Way to go!"
"Well done!"
The crowd cheered.
Subaru sighed and started strolling once again.
The girls giggled whereas a certain violet-haired knight and a blond-haired witch were mad at the boy, the child could have been injured or worse because of his foolishness.
"I guess I'm not quite ready to use magic…" Subaru realized.
"Of course you aren't!"
He soon came in front of a shop and saw some weird writings on a signboard.
"I can't read this," He pondered.
"Huh? That's strange. Barusu could read and write to some extent when he first came to the mansion. The writing on the board isn't that complicated," Ram whispered, sharing her thoughts with Rem.
"Yes Nee-sama, Rem believes something is not right."
"Hey, boy. Those are some weird clothes. Are you perhaps travelling?" the owner of the shop asked.
"What are these?" Subaru inquired as he pointed his hand towards a fruit that looked a lot like apples.
"Those are appas," Kadomon answered.
"Appas don't exist in Subaru's world?!" Emilia asked Beatrice and Shaula, the two know-it-alls.
"Nope, they do! They are called apples! An apple a day keeps the doctor away!"
"They are called apples, in fact."
Both Beatrice and Shaula stated at the same time. They both glared at each other and exchanged smug, competitive looks.
"They understand me, though. The question is…" Subaru thought to himself as searched his pocket and took out a few coins.
"Huh? What kind of money is that? You can't use that stuff in Lugunica," He informed.
"That means you're flat broke, huh? Get outta here and don't interfere with my business!" Kadomon yelled at Subaru.
"Rude!" Petra and Typhon exclaimed.
"There's no other way…" Subaru said, dejected.
"I'll just have to go around gathering information first," he mused.
His legendary luck ended him up in a female's bathroom, demi-human bar and finally falling down a canal, wetting his clothes.
"Oh, S-Subaru you a-are such a dunderhead. I c-can't stop, hehehehe!"
Emilia knew it was mean, but she couldn't refrain herself from laughing. Her knight was just too silly.
The rest were having a good expense at Subaru's antics as well. Carmilla was surprised that she found herself laughing at the boy's antics.
Subaru is now in an alleyway, tired and defeated. "Is this how it's supposed to be?" he questioned himself.
"Wasn't I summoned into a parallel world?! Where'd my protagonist status go?! Damn it!" he complained, not happy with the way things are heading off to.
"Is Natsuki-kun thinkin' that he's a hero of some story?" Anastasia asked.
"In his world, the people believe that if someone gets summoned/teleported to another world, they are bound to receive supernatural powers and they'll be a hero I suppose."
"Well, Subaru-kun is already Rem's hero!" Rem said as a matter of fact.
"So is mine!" Petra added.
Wilhelm smiled fondly at the girls. "You've done some great things, eh, Subaru-dono?"
"Hmph, what a stupid rat," Priscilla commented on the black-haired knight.
He searched his pocket for his cell phone. "My cell phone still works…"
Crusch, Felix and Wilhelm widened their eyes.
"Isn't that the metia which helped us know the time of the White Whale's appearance?"
"So, it's originally called a cell phyone?"
"I wonder how that device from Subaru-dono's world helped us in knowing the time of the White Whale's appearance."
"But it's out of range, so what's the point of having it?!"
"And my starting gear is way too wimpy!" He whined as he checked on his packet once again.
"You need a more substantial welfare program to satisfy pressure-free generation kids like me! I don't even have Excalibur or anything!"
"Ugh! I'm not understandin' anything!" Anastasia complained. "What is he tryin' to say, Beatrice and Shaula?"
"Hmph, I won't tell you I suppose."
"Nooor will I~"
Truth be told, both Shaula and Beatrice did not know what Subaru was sprouting out. Thus, they both sensed that the other knew the answer. So to protect their pride, they both choose to act like they're too good for the others.
Others could only glare at them with jealousy, especially the ones close to Subaru. They'll make sure to spend more time with him and make him share stories from his world now that they know of his origins. If they reunite with him again, that is.
He whined once again, raising both his arms in frustration, and sighed.
The screen changed and showed Felt jumping from rooftops to rooftops.
"She's got nice skills."
"I agree, it is Felt-sama we are talking about after all!"
"Eat shit, Reinhard."
"And besides, if I was summoned, where's the cute girl who summoned me? Did she summon me only to leave me here alone?"
"Cute girl, who summoned him? Whom is he referring to?" Emilia queried, puzzled.
"Welll~ In master's world, stories like people getting summoned to another world usually happen because of a cute girl summoning them."
"I see… a foolish belief then," Julius commented.
"Does big bro really think all of this happening is a story?" Mimi asked.
"Well, that's young folks for ya," Ricardo answered.
"Heh, pervert as always, aren't you Barusu?"
"Only if he knew it was a witch who bought him here," Minerva mused.
Footsteps can be heard as someone walks towards Subaru.
"Hey! Is she finally here?! The cute girl who summoned… me…" Subaru stopped as he soon realized whom he was talking to.
Three thugs stood before him, and Subaru was frozen as they made eye contact with him.
"Ton, Chin and Kan!" Felt exclaimed.
"What are you babbling about?" Kan asked.
"If you don't wanna get hurt, cough up whatever you've got!" Chin demanded as he picked up Subaru by the collar.
Both Emilia, Petra and Rem were worrying for Subaru.
"Crap, it's a compulsory event…"
"Move it, move it! You guys! Out of my way!" Felt requested them She seemed to be in a hurry.
"Here we go! Is that the cute girl who summoned me?" Subaru asked with excitement in his voice.
"Summoned? I dunno what you're talkin' about, but I'm busy! Sorry! Live strong!" Felt answered politely and jumped over the walls and finally reached the rooftops once again and vanished.
"Hey! That was mean Felt! You should have at least tried to help him!" Emilia chided her.
"I agree with Emilia-sama," Crusch stated.
"Hey hey hey! Wait! I remember nothing like this happening! I met big bro back at the slums!"
"Huh? You mean to say this never happened?" Emilia questioned.
"Felt-sama isn't lying, Emilia-sama," Reinhard informed her.
"I can't see the wind of untruth blowing from her either," Crusch added.
Subaru was in trouble now.
"Hey, that didn't make you decide to be less hostile toward me, by any chance, did it?" Subaru asked jokingly.
"Actually, it rained on our parade and made things worse," Ton answered, cracking his knuckles.
"Yeah, of course…"
"Heh, provoking the thugs. Truly a fool," Ram commented.
"Now… just calm down, Natsuki Subaru. Since ancient times, it's the rule that anyone summoned into a parallel world will display supernatural powers!"
"I'll mow these guys down and make them fuel for my shining future!"
He thought to himself and got fired up.
"You lumps of EXP!" Subaru yelled as he punched Ton and then delivered a spinning kick to Kan, knocking both of them out in the process.
"HELL YEAHH Cap'n! SHOW THE BASTARDS WHO YA ARE!" Garfiel cheered on for his Cap'n.
"MASTER, YOU LOOK SO COOOOOL!" Shaula commented on her cool master.
"The spinning kick technique of his was decent," Julius commented.
Meanwhile, Petra and Rem too cheered for their hero, blushing. He looked really cool fighting those goons out there.
"That's the first time I ever hit someone. I didn't expect it to hurt me that much… but this world is set up so that I'll be strong! My adrenaline is surging! I've got this!" he declared. He was now getting excited.
"Wait wha'? Cap'n has neva' fought before in his world? Eh, Doesn't matter,"
Wilhelm was shocked. Shocked because a young boy like him had never fought before in his world and surprised because the moves he displayed were actually decent for a novice.
"Subaru has never fought? Hmm… his world must be reallly peaceful then," Emilia pondered.
He started rushing towards the leader of the three stooges but stopped dead in his tracks after seeing the knives, begging for his life.
"I'm sorry! It was all my fault! Forgive me! Spare me!"
The people cheering and commenting on Subaru's moves facepalmed.
"Masteerrr! You got me hyped up for nothing!"
"Subaru-dono had no weapons with him. While I don't approve of the way he begged for his life, I'd say it was a smart decision to withdraw from the fight as a warrior must always know when to step back," Wilhelm commented on Subaru's behaviour on screen.
Reinhard remained silent, puzzled and confused.
Chin launched a kick towards Subaru's face. Subaru shrieked in pain. The other two soon got up and started kicking Subaru.
"Play games with us, will you?! Die, scum!"
"And don't think it'll be painless!"
Shaula and Rem clenched their fists. They'll punish these goons for what they did to their beloved.
Beatrice was already swearing for vengeance, and so did Emilia.
"How dare they do that to big bro!"
"I'll surely punish them for their sins!" Typhon declared.
"Such a weak rat," Priscilla commented, mocking Subaru's inability to fight.
Reinhard was worried since the moment this screen showed Subaru picking a fight with Ton, Chin and Kan. "I'm so sorry to say this, but I remember saving Subaru from these three. I never remember finding him in such a state, injured!"
"WHAT?" Everyone asked.
Chin soon stepped on Subaru's face. He was enjoying torturing Subaru.
Emilia covered her eyes. This was too much for her now. She couldn't bear to look at Subaru in pain.
"How… How dare ya do that to ma Cap'n?" Garfiel growled, he'll avenge his captain very, very soon and make life a living hell for these bastards.
Even Minerva clenched her fists at the unfair treatment given to the boy.
If they weren't members of the Felt camp, Reinhard would've sworn to punish them by now.
"That's enough."
"Wait what? Is that me?" Emilia muttered.
"Emilia-sama?"
The three thugs and Subaru turned around to find the owner of the voice. A beautiful girl with silver hair who had pointy ears.
"Who the hell are you?" Chin asked.
"Stop now, and I'll let this slide. So just graciously return what you stole," Emilia warned, glaring at them.
"Ah, it is indeed Emilia-sama. Thank the ods, Subaru-kun will be okay now," Rem said. Rem secretly wished that it should have been her who would have saved her Subaru-kun.
Many agreed to Rem's statement, but two people were confused.
"I never remember passing through this alleyway, meeting him!" Emilia announced, baffled.
"What?! I knew it, this viewing was fake!"
Many doubted the events shown on the viewing now. Meanwhile, Beatrice was enraged that she worried over her contractor for nothing. It also relieved her since it means Subaru won't be in danger in the coming future anymore. Emilia thought the same too.
Subaru's face held a look of surprise. He blushed slightly as he gazed at the beautiful elf girl before him.
"Bro's already blushing, eh?" Al mused.
"What we stole?" Ton asked.
"Now, please. It's important to me. I'll give up on other stuff, but I can't let you have that. Be good and hand it over, please," Emilia requested the thugs politely.
"Emilia-sama. By "stolen", did you mean the insignia?" Crusch asked.
Emilia nodded.
Felt cursed her previous self for accepting an offer from the bitch that could have got all of them killed if Reinhard hadn't intervened.
"You didn't come to save this kid?" Ton asked.
"What strange clothes he has… if you asked me if I had any connection to him, I'd have to say no," Emilia replied.
"That's rude!" Petra, Shaula and Rem snapped at Emilia.
"What is the other me on-screen thinking? Help him already!" Emilia berated her other-self.
"Then you've got no business with us! If someone stole from you, it was that brat who just ran by!" Ton said.
"Yeah! That way! She ran that way!" Kan added.
"Hmm… They don't seem to be lying… I need to go after her!" Emilia said as she ran past the three thugs and Subaru.
"Out of all the people, I never thought you would leave your knight like this, Emilia-sama," Crusch said with a frown.
Felt agreed, "Yeah, that's unlike you big sis."
"Wait… I bet Emilia won't leave Subaru, she'll save him. Let's continue watchin' and not ta mention, this all could be a fake," Anastasia defended Emilia, who herself was shocked at the actions of her screen counterpart.
The thugs sighed in relief. The elf girl suddenly stopped and turned around.
"But regardless of that… I can't overlook what's going on here!" she said as she fired three rock-sized ice towards the thieves.
"See? I told ya so!" Anastasia puffed up with pride.
"Magic?" Subaru said, weakly.
"Mess with us, will you?! I don't care if you can use magic! I'll kill you! You think you can win when it's two against one?! Huh?!" Chin challenged her in a rage.
"You're right. Two against one may be unfair," Emilia said.
"Two against two should make it fair, then," a mysterious voice said as a cat looking creature suddenly appeared in Emilia's hand.
"Puck…"
"Bubby…"
"You-You're a user of the spiritual arts?" Ton asked as he realized they picked a fight with the wrong person.
"Correct. Back off now and I won't come after you," Emilia replied.
"Decide quick. I'm in a hurry."
"You bitch! Next time I see you, I won't go easy on you!" Chin threatened her.
"Do anything to her, and I'll haunt you and your kin forever. Not that you'll have any kin if I do that," Puckcountered back.
The thieves fled, scared for their lives.
"Whew… thanks a ton for saving him, big sis. I'll take responsibility and make sure Ton, Chin and Kan are punished for this shit even if this might be a fake and well, if it already happened then... They're dead meat!"
"Of course Felt-chan! Thank you!
"You saved me. Thanks."
"Don't move!" She commanded, staring into his eyes.
Subaru averted his eyes because of his male instincts.
"See? You averted your eyes because you have a guilty conscience! Looks like my judgement was spot-on," Emilia said as she moved towards Subaru.
"Really now? That first thought that comes to your mind is that some random kid who's injured by three thugs will know whoever stole your insignia? How ignorant can you be, half-wit?" Priscilla snarled.
Emilia knew Priscilla was correct. She hated her on-screen counterpart for treating her knight in such a way.
"Princess, please don't pick fights with an opposing camp," Al sighed.
"Are you sure? I think it was just an instinctive male reaction. I didn't sense any malice at all," Puck asked Emilia.
"You be quiet, Puck!" Emilia replied.
"It's obvious it's just an instinctive male reaction though," Anastasia commented.
"The cat is correct," Crusch stated.
"Did you just call me nyow, Crusch-sama?" Felix joked.
"Baru isn't a baddie, silver-haired onee-san!" Typhon said.
She turned to Subaru and inquired, "You know who stole my insignia from me, don't you?"
Subaru replied, "Uh, sorry, but I don't have the slightest idea."
"Huh? Wait, it can't be! Did I really just come around the long way?"
"You should probably go after her, miss," Subaru advised her.
"I could… help…" he said as he tried to get up, only to fall back once again.
"Ouch… the boy's injured badly," Ricardo observed.
"Poor Baru," Typhon mumbled.
Minerva and Felix, being the healers they were, wanted nothing more than to jump in and heal Subaru.
"Even after Emilia-sama was treating Subaru-kun rashly, he helps her. Rem's hero is really kind!" Rem grinned. Her hero was the greatest!
Many nodded their heads, that's just who Subaru was. Selfless and kind.
Emilia felt guilty about her on-screen counterpart treating him like trash. "This might not be true anyway," She tried to reassure herself but it failed.
"Aww, you shouldn't have tried to get up. What should we do?" Puck took a glance at Subaru and then asked Emilia.
Emilia replied. "It's none of our business. He won't die. We'll just leave him."
"Really?"
"Yes… really? It's unlike you to leave an injured on the road, Emilia," Anastasia stated.
"Big sis is being really mean to big bro."
"You should better stay away from my contractor from now on, I suppose!" Beatrice scowled at Emilia.
"Emilia-sama, this is too much! You're treating him like he's dirt to you!" Rem snarled.
Emilia was… just shocked at the behaviour and actions of her screen counterpart. "How could I even do this to him?"
The guilt arising within her, she was on the verge of crying. She didn't want to believe this. Was this the reason her knight never trusted her much?
"Yes, really."
"You say that, but I bet you'll still help him."
"I will not!"
"Yeah, right."
"Absolutely not! I am not going to save him!"
"Seriously Emilia-sama? You had to argue with your spirit whether or not to save him?" Frederica frowned.
"N-No! I s-swear I would have saved Subaru!"
"Let's continue watching," Meili sighed.
Subaru took a last glance at the two bickering fools.
"She's even cute when she's mad. That's a parallel world fantasy for you…" Subaru thought and he passed out.
"I find it amusing that even after you treat him like dirt, these are his last thoughts before passing out," Crusch giggled, surprised.
Emilia was having mixed emotions. She was feeling guilty for treating Subaru like dirt, but after hearing Subaru's thoughts, the cheeks of Emilia turned red.
Petra, Rem and Shaula pouted after hearing the words of Subaru, jealous.
"Master is a meanie~ Why can't you think of me like that?" Shaula whined.
"Subaru! Why do you have to always look and comment at Emilia-sama!" Petra whined internally. If she were to say this out loud, Frederica nee-sama might punish her!
"The sage, no… the sage's apprentice wants Subaru to love her?!" Many people finally realized, bewildered by the revelation.
"Damn, my amazin' selfs gotta learn th' techniques from Cap'n real soon." Garfiel made a mental note.
Out of everyone, Wilhelm found something really disturbing. "Can it be… Subaru-dono really has no self-worth?"
He shrugged it off for now. The screen might reveal it later if he is indeed correct.
Subaru soon woke up. His head was on someone's lap.
"Is my head on someone's lap?"
"You're awake?" Emilia asked.
"I didn't know cute girls were this hairy… wait that can't be right!"
Subaru soon realized the person who was giving him a lap pillow was none other than Puck. He and Puck stared at each other for a brief moment and he got up from Puck's lap, horrified.
"It's a thoughtful arrangement we made so you could at least feel happy until you woke up," Puck explained in a womanly high-pitched voice, mocking Subaru.
"First of all, don't talk in that high voice! No sane guy confuses a cat for the main heroine!" Subaru said, terrified.
"Aww, making myself bigger to was worth it to see you so happy," Puck said, rubbing his head.
"I'm not happy!"
The cast was already rolling on the floor since the moment Puck spoke in a womanly voice to mock Subaru.
"Cap… Cap'n!" Garfiel squeaked, unable to control his laughter.
Otto was in the same condition as Garfiel, tears rolling down his face while laughing.
Ram chuckled a bit at Barusu's stupidness.
Reinhard, Felix and Julius had a pleasant laugh at their friend's "horrific" situation.
The Royal candidates were laughing hard as well, especially Felt.
"Big- Big Bro is really silly!"
Anastasia and Julius would tease him about this eternally if this viewing turned out to be true.
Minerva, for the first time when entering this theatre, showed an emotion different from wrath. She was rolling on the floor like a few others.
"O-oh spirits! He was thinking it was a lap pillow from Emilia!"
And she continued laughing even harder.
Carmilla herself giggled at Subaru's misfortune. If she were a bit less composed, she'd end up in the same state as Minerva.
Typhon was having a good laugh over Baru's foolishness.
Everyone was having a merry laugh, but two individuals were laughing so hard that they'd not be surprised if their tummies burst out after they stopped laughing.
Emilia was laughing so hard at the mean trick her "father" played on her knight, and Subaru's reactions made her laugh even harder.
Rem was as fanatical as a demon while laughing. She'd never laughed so hard in her life. Her hero was really something special!
A short while later, the laughing ceased for good, but the giggles continued, and so did the viewing.
"I'm sorry about this. You stayed with me the whole time I was unconscious…" He apologized to Emilia.
"Don't get the wrong idea. I had to stay because there are things I want to ask you. Healing your wounds and making Puck your pillow until you woke up were all for my benefit. So I need you to repay me in kind," Emilia replied.
"For such a small favour, you're making it sound like it's something big I suppose."
Rem nodded. "While you might not remember me Emilia-sama, I remember you were never the type to make people go into debt, especially those in need."
"Yeah, the half-devil is really mean!"
"The Emilia-sama on screen is acting weird for sure," Crusch wondered.
Emilia was too busy in her thoughts to pay attention to them. Subaru had told her several times that she had saved him, and he owes her many debts. Did he refer to this exact situation? If so, how much of this is true and how much of this is false? More importantly, how did Subaru remember this encounter when she didn't?
"For such a small favour, you're making it sound like I owe you really big."
"No such thing. You have some idea who stole my insignia, right?"
"Insignia? You mean one of those badge things that shows your affiliation?" Subaru mumbled, pondering over what an insignia was in this isekai world.
"Oh, so Subaru-kyun somewhat knows what an insignia is," Felix observed.
"Perhaps they exist in his world as well? What do you say Beatrice and Shaula-sama?" Crusch questioned.
"Yeahhh~ It's a badge belonging to someone important in master's world as well!" Shaula affirmed.
Beatrice knew nothing about this, so she went along with Shaula's sentence to save her pride once again. "She's right I suppose."
"Intriguing," The green-haired duchess mused.
"It has a jewel in the centre, and it's about this big," Emilia explained as she made an ok sign with her hand to explain the size of an insignia to Subaru.
"Sorry, but no matter how many times you ask me, I have no idea."
"I see. No helping that, then. But you've given me the information that you know nothing," -Emilia crossed her arms- " and you gave me my answer in return for healing you."
"Huh?"
"Well, I'm in a hurry, so I'm going now. Your wounds should be better now, but next time, don't do dangerous things, like wandering into deserted alleys alone. I'm not concerned. I'm just warning you.
"If that happens to you again, saving you won't be of any benefit to me, so don't expect me to help."
And with that, Emilia left the alley.
Wilhelm, being the wisest of all, finally understood the meaning behind Emilia's actions first. He smiled fondly at her.
"I think I get it now, Emilia-sama."
Meanwhile, the rest, failing to notice the reason behind her actions, just thought that Emilia on-screen was acting like a tsundere.
Some like Crusch, Roswaal, Priscilla, Reinhard and Julius understood the reason behind her behaviour too. Each of them had different reactions.
"Now this makes more sense. That is indeed like you Emilia-sama," The green-haired duchess muttered.
Julius respected Emilia a lot, but after this, his respect for her grew higher. "I hope you comprehend the real reason behind her behaviour, Subaru."
Roswaal thought to himself, "Myyyyyy~ If Subaru-kun figures out why she's acting like this, I think I finally figured out why Subaru-kun loves Emilia so much."
"Emilia-sama is really kind, isn't she?" Reinhard muttered with a smile on his handsome face.
"Hpmh, utter foolishness!" Priscilla glared at Emilia, the latter not understanding why she was doing so.
Emilia knew the reason her on-screen counterpart was acting like this, but sadly, she didn't want to explain the reason to them unless asked, as they'd not get it anyway. She just hoped she'll apologize to Subaru if this all turns out to be true.
"Sorry about her. She's so insincere. Don't think badly of her," Puck apologized on behalf of Emilia.
Subaru was looking at Emilia leaving the alley. "Insincere?"
Puck turned towards him.
"I think it goes beyond that. She was in such a hurry to find what was stolen from her, yet she stopped to help me.
"And she even came up with that lame excuse for a favour so I wouldn't feel like I owed her, even though I'm a total stranger. Anyone who lives like that… is gonna end up wasting their whole life!" Subaru declared, grabbing his belongings. He dashed towards Emilia.
The rest who hadn't figured the out reason behind Emilia's strange behaviour finally did.
"Shit! So that's why the princess was actin' like tha'!"
"It makes sense, considering Emilia-sama's character,"
"That really syounds like Emilia-sama now!"
"Yeah, that's how Emilia-sama is!"
"Seems like her act didn't work in front of Subaru."
A few people like Frederica, Crusch and Felt apologized to Emilia for blaming her without knowing the real reason why.
"Hey big sis, I'm sorry man… I shoulda known about it before."
"Forgive me for my behaviour earlier as well Emilia-sama,"
"I should have known better before remarking," Crusch apologized, along with Felt and Frederica.
"H-Hey, it's okay! I was even berating myself for my on-screen counterpart's behaviour earlier!" Emilia tried to reassure them, and both the parties exchanged warm smiles. She was happy that Subaru figured out the reason behind her actions.
Minerva and Carmilla smiled at the scene, both having different reasons to do so.
"Even though Natsuki Subaru is nothing but a trash bin, I've got to commend him on seeing right through Emilia's act so easily."
"Love! This feeling is definitely love!"
"Hey! Wait up!"
"What? Just so you know, I can only spend just a little more time with you," Emilia stated.
"I sense you're being a tiny bit lenient… forget that. You lost something important, right? Let me help you."
"But you said you don't know anything…" Emilia reasoned with him.
"But I remember her face, at least! If I see her again, I'll know!"
"You're very strange…" She commented.
"Just so you know, I can't do anything to thank you."
"Hm… you really want him to stay outta yer troubles," Anastasia commented.
"Well yeah! He gets hurt everytime he tries to meddle with my burdens!" Emilia stated and bore a sorrowful expression.
"Well that's wha' I like about Natsuki-kun. I've heard things from my spirit before she went to sleep a few moments ago and I can confidently say tha' during our time together at the tower, we all became close enough to risk our lives fer each other," Anastasia stated to which Julius nodded.
"My lady speaks the truth."
"Damn. So we've really become close with the boy's camp, eh? Well, that's a good thing," Ricardo mused. "But my lady, what does your spirit have to do with this?"
Ricardo received no answer, and he sighed, it'll have to wait for another time.
Felt camp and Crusch camp were happy for the progress of Emilia camp and wished they could strengthen their relationships as well.
"Yay! My camp is friends with Big bro's camp! I wish big bro were here to watch with us too!"
Many nodded, each one recalling their fond moments with the black-haired knight.
"Rem will ask Suzuki-san if he can bring Subaru in here!" Rem said to which Emilia, Beatrice and Shaula nodded as well, indicating they'll do the same.
"I don't need you to. I want to thank you. That's why I want to help," Subaru explained.
Wilhelm and Reinhard smiled fondly at the black-haired boy's kindness.
"That's the way a knight should always act," Julius muttered, smiling.
Crusch, Felt and Anastasia smiled warmly. They fondly recalled the times the black-haired boy helped and saved them.
"Not only is mah Cap'n great, but he's kindest out there too!" Garfiel bragged, not wanting to miss a moment of explaining to people how great his boss is.
Most of the Emilia camp smiled at the boy's kindness too.
"It's only natural for Betty's contractor to be kind!"
"That's just how amazing and kind Rem's hero is!"
"Subaru is really a good boy, eh?"
"Master can be cruel to me sometimes, but he's always kind to everyone most of the time!"
"Baru's heart and soul are really pure. I want to be friends with him now!" Typhon exclaimed.
"I didn't do anything deserving of thanks. I told you, I've already received compensation for healing your wounds."
"Then… I'm going to help you for my sake, too. My objective is… Let's see… yeah! One good deed per day!" He declared, raising his index finger.
"A nice and lame excuse from both sides," Meili giggled.
Emilia was giving some thought to it when Puck intervened. "I don't sense any malice. I think you can just accept his offer. The more shields between yourself and ruffians, the better, after all."
"That's what you want me around for?!" He fumed.
"Hahaha! I like this cat," Mimi chuckled.
"Indeed, the great spirit of fire seems to enjoy teasing Subaru a lot," Julius noted.
"Anyone teasing Barusu would know of the satisfying reactions he gives everytime," Ram smirked.
Julius smirked and nodded. He had experienced teasing Subaru several times first-hand.
"The dynamic between Subaru and Puck was always good!" Emilia stated proudly.
"Betty and Subaru's dynamic is better, I suppose. Hmph!" Beatrice pouted.
"I mean it, though. I can't do anything to thank you."
"No problem. Just leave it to me!" Subaru boasted, holding his hand over his chest.
The screen showed various scenes of Subaru and Emilia, asking everyone about Felt's whereabouts and Subaru trying to lean over a fence, curious.
"I talked big, but isn't this town too huge to find one little thing in?" He asked.
"Of cyourse! It's the capital of Lugunica after all," Felix uttered.
"Yeah, he doesn't know about that Felix," Reinhard said.
"Poor Subaru-kun…"
"It's the capital of Lugunica," Emilia answered.
"You didn't even know that, um…"
"That's right. We haven't asked your name yet. Should we all introduce ourselves?" Puck intervened.
"Oh, yeah, you're right. I'll introduce myself first, then," Subaru said.
"My name is Natsuki Subaru. Not only am I clueless, I'm also broke beyond compare! Nice to meet ya!" Subaru declared with his famous Natsuki household pose.
"What? Why are y'all laughin'? My amazin' self thinks that pose looks awesome!" Garfiel snapped at those laughing.
"It's not about his pose, Garf. It's about his hopeless introduction," Frederica answered, giggling.
Julius chuckled as well. "You're really hopeless, Subaru."
"Hahaha, he really expressed it with no shame in front of the woman he loves," Otto said, rolling on the floor once again.
Shaula was just pouting at the people who were making fun of her master. His pose looked really cool despite his hopeless introduction. Garfiel felt the same.
Emilia and Rem were giggling at their beloved's antics.
"Nerva, you're gonna choke if you laugh so much!"
"I can't help it, Ty-Typhon! This boy is just too hopeless and foolish," Minerva uttered, her hands over her stomach.
This boy made Carmilla giggle at least three times a day today. He was really something special. Was she maybe starting to… no, she shouldn't have thoughts like these. The Witch of Envy would kill her if she found out.
"When that's all you say, you really do sound hopeless," Puck commented and decided to introduce himself.
"And I'm Puck! Nice to meet you!" Puck introduced himself, shaking hands with Subaru.
"It's very unusual to see someone who can touch a spirit so casually. Where are you from?" Emilia queried.
"It is unusual indeed, unless he has a high affinity with spirits, which he already does," Julius stated.
"Well, following the usual pattern, a small island nation to the east."
"That's what Subaru told me when we first met as well," Reinhard informed everyone.
"Hmm, and you believed him?"
"Yes, I could sense that he wasn't lying."
"Perhaps by that, he is referring to his homeland?"
"Correct, in fact."
"Yup!"
Both Shaula and Beatrice replied at the same time, causing both of them to glare at each other.
"Oh, interesting. Could ya tell me more about what's the name of the "small island nation to the east" he hails from?" Anastasia queried.
"Hmph, Betty won't tell you such crucial information I suppose."
"The nameee of the country master hails from is called Japan! It is an eastern country of master's world!"
Anastasia was happy at receiving the information from the sage's apprentice. She now knew whom to turn to if Beatrice refused to answer her questions.
Beatrice cursed herself for letting Shaula win this round, which she could have won easily. From now on, Betty made a mental note to answer all the questions asked to her, so that she prevents an illiterate girl from defeating her in a fight for knowledge.
Beatrice was also astonished, like the ones who travelled to the tower. They never thought the air-headed Shaula would know so many facts about Subaru's world.
Meanwhile, Shaula was too busy pondering over something to notice Beatrice glaring at her. "Muu~ I don't know why you always say that you're not my Master. My previous Master hailed from Japan as well and so do you!"
"Lugunica is the easternmost nation on our continental map. There's no nation east of here."
Subaru was shocked at the information. Meanwhile, Puck was imitating Subaru's expressions.
"No way, really? There's nothing east of here?"
"You have no idea where you are, you have no money, you can't read, and you have no one who can help you. You might be in an even more precarious position than me, um… Subaru… was it?"
Subaru blushed and cleared his throat. "Yes, that's my name."
"But when I look at you this way, you look pretty well-built," Puck observed.
"I do work out everyday. For a shut-in who's gotta guard his house, that much is a given."
"I'm not sure not I understand what a "shut-in" is," Emilia said, tilting her head. "But that means you're from a respectable family, right?"
"Ah, so that explains why you were so happy about getting summoned to a parallel world bro," Al murmured.
"Do you have any idea of what a shut-in is, Beatrice and Shaula?" Emilia queried. "Subaru used to say that word around me often."
Emilia had been ignoring her knight all this, thinking that he was just being "weird" as usual, but not anymore.
If getting summoned to another world was the reason for his sufferings, then she'll make sure to never let him miss his homeland and/or feel sad anymore. She'll diligently make him happy, she swore to herself.
As for Betty, she was cursing herself once again. Subaru used that word around her often, but she never dared ask him what its meaning was. She wished she did now, as Shaula was looking enthusiastic to answer, which meant that she knew. "This is it, I suppose," she mused.
"Hm… master is a shut-in? Oh sorry, a shut-in person is someone who finds it difficult to socialize with others and prefers staying locked in their homes, away from the world," Shaula explained, to which many felt disheartened.
"So I was correct… Subaru-kun really didn't do great in his homeland…" Rem mused, feeling sad for her beloved hero.
"E-Eh? Subaru f-finding it difficult to so-socialize with others? I can't believe it…" Emilia stammered. She never thought her knight, out of all people, ever had difficulty in socializing.
Beatrice remained silent. She never thought her contractor had social problems back in his homeland.
Others found it hard to believe it as well. Subaru was the most cheerful guy amongst them. Did it mean that all the time he smiled, it was nothing but a fake one? This viewing might anyway be a fake as well, so no choice but to keep watching.
Emilia, Beatrice and Rem swore that they'd try their best to figure out what went wrong with him back in his homeland and try to comfort him and tell him not to think about it much.
Emilia held his hands, observing them. "H-Hey-"
"Your fingers, too. They're very pretty. They're evidence that you don't live like a peasant at all.
"And your muscles don't look like the kind you gain by working," Emilia commented, making Subaru blush harder.
"Uh, anyway, I know your cat's name now, but I haven't heard yours yet."
"My name?"
"Yeah."
Emilia looks away for a brief moment and responds. "I'm… Satella."
"WHAT?!" The people in the theatre exclaimed.
"What is the meaning of this Emilia-sama?!" Ram snapped at her.
"B-big sis…"
"What the hell Emilia-sama!"
"What were you thinking back there Emilia…" Minerva mused.
"What's th' meaning of this, princess?" Garfiel asked, baffled.
"Emilia-sama, you must need to have a really good explanation behind this," Crusch stated, eyeing her.
"It isn't a big deal, the half-wit has finally realized her place," Priscilla said, grinning.
"P-Please! B-Believe me! I don't know what the other me is thinking! I swear!"
Emilia was on the verge of bursting out in tears. She never thought that she'd use the Jealous Witch's name so carelessly around someone and that too, around Subaru. She never wanted him to look at her like others did, so what was her other self on the screen thinking?!
Many glares and disgusted looks were aimed at Emilia. Luckily someone close to her came in her defence.
"Hey hey! Let's not forget that this all might be fake. The Emilia I know would never do this, and even if she did, she'd have a good reason ta do so," Anastasia defended Emilia.
"I agree with my lady. As far as I have known Emilia-sama, she has been nothing but kind."
"I agree with Anastasia-sama's and Julius' words."
The words of Reinhard, Anastasia and Julius seemed to have worked out and people settled down on their seats once again.
"I have no family name. You can just call me Satella."
Subaru smiled. "I see… Satella… That's a nice name."
"Before you say anything, let me tell you it's only natural he'd not know about the Jealous Witch since the world he comes from probably doesn't have one," Al explained, defending his bro and stopping any hateful reactions taking place.
That calmed down a few, and they nodded their heads, understanding the situation Subaru was in.
Emilia seemed to be completely taken aback by what he just said. She got the complete opposite reaction out of him. Puck floated over her ear and sighed. "You have terrible taste."
"Fufu, her own contracted spirit agrees with me," Priscilla grinned, to which others just ignored and continued watching.
"Okay, time to get back to asking around!" Subaru stated, pumping his fist in the air.
The scene changes back to the market.
"Hey, Subaru… do you get the feeling that child is lost?" Emilia said as she pointed her finger towards the said child.
"Why does she feel familiar, have we met before?" Felt pondered.
"Uh, but what about our questioning?"
"That's important too, but if she's lost, we have to do something."
Subaru agreed to what she said, but they still had a major problem at hand. "I'm in no place to talk after you saved me, but do you understand the position we're in?"
"But… She's crying! Is she not Subaru?"
"You're really like Subaru-dono, Emilia-sama," Wilhelm muttered, grinning.
"Yeah! This is no doubt the Emilia-sama we all know!" Otto boasted.
"This is the behaviour that defines you, Emilia-sama," Rem grinned.
Subaru was moved by her kindness. "If you can't do this with me, that's fine. Thanks for all your help, Subaru. I'll handle it on my own from here, after I help that little girl," She stated, moving towards the crying child.
She moved towards the child, but the child feared her because of her traits.
Many frowned at the treatment Emilia receives. It is heartbreaking to know that even children would get scared by your appearance despite her not committing a single sin.
"I feel bad for the silver-haired onee-chan now," Typhon said.
"I'm sorry I'm not who you were looking for. So, what's the matter? Aren't your mom and dad with you?"
Emilia failed to comfort the child, and the little girl started crying.
"Um, uh… Don't cry… I won't do anything to you, okay?"
"What I have here is one grooved-edge ten-yen coin," Subaru said, appearing out of nowhere.
"I will not clutch it tightly in my hand. Tight, tight, tight… like that! And now… Imagine that!"
The coin suddenly vanished from Subaru's palm. The child seemed amused by Subaru's little trick.
He beamed her a smile and took out the coin from her hairs.
"And this… is where the coin was hiding."
Subaru had successfully made the child happy.
"Woah! That was an awesome trick Cap'n!" Garfiel praised.
The children in the theatre were just as shocked as Plum.
"I've got to make big bro show me this trick as well!"
"That's a wonderful trick! Mimi is happy!
"As expected of Subaru!"
Frederica, Rem, Shaula and Emilia giggled, whereas Beatrice was jealous at the fact that her Subaru never showed her this trick.
It shocked others that Subaru made the children in the theatre happy in under 15 seconds.
The lolimancer won the day without being present there.
"Damn… No wonder why people call him the lolimancer," Ricardo muttered.
"Well, he seems to be great with kids. I'll give him that," Minerva commented.
"H-He… really is!" Carmilla said.
"You can have this. It's rare, so take good care of it." He offered the coin to the child to which the latter joyfully accepted it.
"Thank you!" Plum thanked Subaru.
"I see. You got separated from your mom, huh? Hey, it'll be fine. Just leave it to me and this young lady here. We'll find them for you in no time," He reassured Plum.
"When we do this, people who don't know us probably think we're a married couple and child, huh? How embarrassing," He continued.
Shaula pouted at the screen. "I wish I had moments like this with master instead of that half-elf!"
"As expected of Barusu, stating his perverse thoughts without shame."
Rem smiled. It somehow felt bittersweet for her, even though she knew it wasn't the actual daughter of Emilia and her hero. She'd work harder so that one day her hero says these same lines to her!
Emilia just blushed at the screen, wishing she could have gotten this precious moment with her knight.
Others were smiling fondly and wishing for Subaru to win Emilia's heart.
Roswaal and Priscilla yawned out of boredom.
"At best, I can't see you as anything more than her older brother," Emilia replied, crushing Subaru's happy dream.
"Ouch, that really hurt."
"Seems like you have to try another day, Natsuki-san."
Otto and Garfiel mocked their brother, laughing their ass off along with the others at Subaru's instant rejection.
Emilia just facepalmed. Her other self was such a dunderhead!
"What makes you think I'm that much younger than you?!"
"Oh! Mommy!" Plum interrupted as she ran toward her mom and hugged her. "Mommy!"
Both Subaru and Emilia were happy at the scene before them.
"Looks like she found her."
"Yeah. I'm glad."
The scene changes to a fountain ledge.
"So… I think we took a pretty long way around, but what benefit will you insist that you got out of this?" Subaru asked Emilia.
"That's easy. Now we can continue our search with our minds at ease, right?" She responded.
"Ahh, another excuse to save someone."
"Anyway, why did you help me? You were against the idea."
"I could say I just wanted to show off my magic trick, but that would be a lie. I told you, finding your insignia will be my one good deed for the day!" he replied.
"Wait! So that's how magic is in big bro's world? That's kind of cool!" Felt stated, excited.
"Their world must be really weaaaaak then," Roswaal said.
"So this means that there is no mana! No wonder Subaru-kun did not know how to cast magic," Rem voiced out her thoughts.
"Wait, so this means there're no spirits in Subaru's world since they can't survive because of the lack of mana," Julius stated, surprised.
"And if there's no mana, I'd not be able to use my special move," Reinhard informed.
"Onii-san's world seems interesting~"
Anastasia happily noted all of this information down. This might prove beneficial to her later on.
"Then, since you helped the little girl, isn't your one good deed over?"
"That comeback was way too logical! Come on, it doesn't hurt to do more than one nice thing in a day, right? I just got tomorrow's out of the way.
"My plan is to get a week's worth of good deeds taken care of early!" he stated.
"Natsuki-san and Emilia-sama are both really made for each other, eh? They both use petty excuses to help each other," Otto said, not noticing that he just gained the ire of an oni and a humanoid mabeast.
"I agree with Otto-kuuuuuuun, they were made for each otherrrrrr!" Roswaal said.
Emilia blushed harder after hearing Otto and Roswaal.
"Subaru, you're the type that basically wastes your whole life, aren't you?"
"You're the last one I want saying that to me," he moaned.
"Hahaha! I love their dynamic as well!" Ricardo chuckled.
"You're both really made for each other!" Mimi chuckled as well, along with her captain.
Emilia was now as red as a tomato. Rem and Shaula were the epitome of jealousy at this point.
Emilia continued, "You're not a bad boy, though."
"Why are you treating me like I'm younger than you again? I doubt there's that much difference between us."
"I don't think making guesses on that will help you" -her expression darkened- "I'm a half-elf."
Some frowned, and some felt sad for her. They all knew how hard life must have been for her as a silver-haired half-elf.
"I'm sorry for you, Emilia-sama," Wilhelm knew how many hardships she must have had to face just because she is a half-elf. He respected her a lot.
"I'm sorry for you as well, Emilia-sama," Crusch regretted her words earlier. If Emilia wasn't a candidate, she'd surely take her to the Crusch camp for all her efforts and hardships. She respected women like that.
The rest felt sorry for her as well, save for Priscilla and Roswaal.
"I-It's okay everyone! I'm just glad that I got the chance to be friends with all of you wonderful people!" Emilia reassured.
They smiled warmly at her. They could never compare her to the witch, she's the opposite. She's an angel who's discriminated against just for the sole reason of her similar looks to the Witch of Envy. They vowed to never doubt her again.
Subaru took a careful glance at her once more, noticing her pointed ears. "Now I get it."
Emilia gripped her knuckles as she waited for his reaction.
Emilia already knew that the response from her knight would be something unexpected.
"No wonder I thought you were so cute! Elves are always beautiful, right?" Subaru said, beaming her with a bright smile.
"Go for it Cap'n! Win her heart!" Garfiel cheered on.
"Not only kids, but he might also have a way with ladies as well," Crusch noted, intrigued.
"I have seen no one who told half-elves that they were beautiful. The boy definitely has a way with his words," Ricardo chuckled.
Emilia, shocked by his words, turned towards him.
"What?" He asked.
"'What'? Well, I mean… I'm a half-elf…" Emilia said, pointing her finger towards her.
"Yeah, I heard you."
Emilia got up from the ledge. She suddenly held her head between her hands, embarrassed and blushing.
Wilhelm grinned at the scene, cheering for the black-haired knight. "He seems to be successful."
Reinhard, Felix, Julius, Al and Otto cheered on for their friend/bro as well.
Meanwhile, Rem and Shaula were dying of jealousy once again.
Puck suddenly appeared and punched Subaru in the cheeks with his tiny hands.
"What did you do that for?" Subaru asked.
"I just had to do something about this unbearable tingle I feel!" Puck replied.
Subaru bought their faces near to the point where the tip of their noses touched.
"I can't accept being hit for a reason like that. Though I'll forgive you because it was squishy."
"I didn't hit you out of anger or anything. The opposite, in fact."
Emilia soon turned towards Subaru, her cheeks still red from blushing. "Subaru, you're such a dunderhead!"
"Dunderhead? Who says that in this day and age? And why are you insulting me?" Subaru asked, puzzled.
"I haven't heard that word for about 400 years I suppose!"
"Where did you learn such an archaic form of speech, Emilia?" Anastasia questioned jokingly.
"Princess really uses some uncommon words which even ma amazin' self cannot grasp sometimes."
"Dunderhead? If I were in your place, I'd give master a big kiss on the lips for calling me cute!" Shaula stated.
"It's a force of habit! I find nothing wrong with it!" Emilia tried to defend herself.
"Hmph! Whatever!" She replied, pouting. "More importantly, we have to get back to the search."
"Hey, hang on! Running around without a plan never ends well. There's a basic rule of searches," Subaru explained to her.
"A basic rule of searches?"
"Yep. You revisit the crime scene a hundred times. Where was your insignia stolen?"
"Hmm, that's good thinking," Crusch commended.
The scene changed back to Kadomon's fruit stall. "So you see, it seems the happened right around here, so I came back to this fruit stand after valiantly telling her to leave it all to me," Subaru said.
Kadomon was behind Subaru, wondering what the fuck is the boy doing. "What? I thought I had a customer, but it's just the broke kid?"
"Do you really want to take that attitude? Haven't you noticed I'm not who I was before?"
"What?" Kadomon questioned, puzzled.
"Just look who I brought with me! I bought someone who might become a regular!"
"Um… Subaru," Emilia intervened. "You seem to have some weird expectations of me, but I don't have any money, either."
"Huh?! Seriously?" He asked, baffled. Emilia replied with a "tehehe".
"HAHAHAHAHA!"
"Oof that must've hurt his pride!"
"Cap'n is a dumbass! Hahaha!"
"Like a lady, like a knight!"
Julius and Reinhard chuckled. Emilia and Subaru were really made for each other.
"So what did you want to say to me now that I've got two broke customers, boy?"
"We're actually looking for someone, and we hoped we could ask you some questions…" Subaru awkwardly explained.
"That was a sarcastic way of telling you I don't have time for losers with no money! Get outta here!" Kadomon sneered.
"I don't like him! He's so rude to Emilia-sama and Subaru!" Petra exclaimed.
"Petra… How many times shall I teach you that you should always call Subaru-sama by the honorific -sama," Frederica chided.
"Right, I'm sorry nee-sama… he's so rude to Emilia-sama and Suba… Subaru-sama!"
"Mister!" Plum called out, waving towards Subaru.
"Thanks for your help earlier," Plum's mother thanked them.
"What brings you back here?" Subaru asked her.
"It's my husband's shop, so we were just shopping by," She replied.
"Husband?" Subaru said and turned towards Kadomon, Kadomon doing the same. Plum soon came and hugged her dad.
"Hey, that's my girl." Kadomon patted his daughter's head.
"Wait, you know these broke losers?" He questioned his wife, pointing his thumb towards Subaru.
"She got lost, and they found her."
"Here, lady," Plum said, presenting a flower badge in her hand.
"She wants to thank you in her own way, so please accept it," Her mom explained.
Emilia gracefully accepted the present and placed the flower badge on her dress. "Thank you."
Plum beamed a bright smile at Emilia.
Kadomon cleared his throat. "Sorry about that. You helped my daughter, and I want to thank you. You can ask for anything."
"A good deed always comes around," Emilia said with a smug look on her face.
"Indeed, Emilia-sama," Crusch nodded.
"Oh, so th' little girl they helped was the fruit stall owner's daughter? That's a delightful coincidence!" Anastasia exclaimed.
"This teaches us all that we should always help those in need," Julius stated, nodding his head.
Subaru and Emilia smiled at each other, the latter soon throwing a smug look towards Subaru.
"There, you see? That came back around and worked in our favour!"
It was almost evening now. Subaru and Emilia are now walking around the slums.
They both found the atmosphere really uncomfortable. Whenever they turn to look around, all they get is people staring at them as if they were unwanted in this location.
"The air, the atmosphere, and most likely, the attitudes of the people living here are awful," Subaru commented, examining the place. "Are you sure she's here?"
"The condition of this place is really awful!" Mimi said.
"Indeed, I'm sorry that you had to spend most of your days in the slums, Felt-sama," Reinhard apologized. He wished he could find her a lot earlier and take her into the Astrea Mansion.
"I'm sorry for you as well, Felt-chan. I can't really blame you now for stealing the insignia to earn a living."
"Meh, it's fine guys. I'm nothing like those losers back at the slums."
"It might be that Felt girl. You said a nimble little blond girl, right? She's well known in the slums but I dunno where she lives, though," Kadomon informed and the flashback ended.
"Maybe someone will tell us if we ask?" Emilia questioned Subaru.
"No one would sell out one of their own, so I don't think that would work," Puck voiced out his thoughts.
Felt just chuckled at Puck's sentence. "Money is all those goons want. Pay the money and they'll betray their own kind."
Anastasia, Emilia and Crusch flinched at Felt's words. What was the Council of Sage doing on this matter? They could've at least tried to raise funds and provide the people in slums a pleasant shelter.
The three royal candidates now had another goal to achieve. They vowed to make the lives of the people in the slums better.
Priscilla was just bored. This was nothing new to her.
"Maybe we should come back later," Subaru suggested.
"Whether you stay or leave, you should decide quickly. I'm almost out of time," Puck informed, yawning.
"You're what? Out of time?" Subaru asked.
"I have a cute appearance, but I am a spirit. It takes a lot of mana just to appear in physical form. So at night, I return to the crystal I was summoned from and prepare for the emergence of the sun," Puck informed him.
"On average, my ideal staying time is from about nine to five."
"Nine to five? You sound like a civil servant. Employment terms for spirits are more severe than I thought…"
Emilia's look turned serious. "We'll be fine without Puck. We have to move forward."
"Yeah. But, sorry… I'm at my limit…" He apologized and started disappearing slowly in his crystal.
"It's almost like he's dying when he disappears…" Subaru commented on Puck fading out slowly.
"I agree with my contractor with this one, I suppose. Bubby really needs to use another method to go back into the crystal."
"Mhm! I agree with Subaru as well."
"Sorry to work you so hard, Puck. We'll handle things from here, so get some rest."
Puck flew towards Emilia's palm. "Don't do anything reckless. If it comes down to it, use the odo to summon me again."
"Okay, take care of the rest, Subaru," Puck said, bidding him goodbye. He went back into the crystal a second later.
Emilia and Subaru are now about to walk over a bridge.
"Hey, I haven't been alone with a girl since I was in grade school!" He muttered, blushing.
"Heh, Barusu is already having perverted thoughts."
Rem and Shaula pouted at the antics of the black-haired boy. "I swear I'll make you mine, Subaru-kun/Master."
Emilia overheard him and warned. "Don't get any weird ideas. I can use magic."
"Good going, Emilia-sama," Ram commended.
The others were laughing at Subaru's poor luck.
"I won't! The bigger issue is how we should find Felt now."
"I'll ask the lesser spirits," she replied.
"Lesser spirits?"
"Lesser spirits are beings that haven't become spirits yet. They grow over time, and when they gain strength and self-awareness, they become full spirits like Puck," Emilia explained.
Julius fondly recalled his quasi spirits. Even though they no longer remembered him, they chose to stay by his side. He'll be forever grateful to them.
Emilia recalled her happy moments with Puck. She wished he was here right now, watching with them.
Emilia chants some magical words and a moment later, tiny bright spirits gather around her, making her body glow which adds beauty to her.
Subaru could only stare at her, mesmerized completely by the other-worldly beauty. His cheeks soon began blushing, marking the start of his love for the silver-haired half-elf.
"Emilia-sama looks really beautiful," Julius commented. "She captured Subaru's heart in a day but could he do the same?"
Others just laughed harder after hearing Julius' remark, whereas two girls were giving him deadly glares.
Emilia wished she was one who got to interact with Subaru like this. Even though the viewing might be fake, everything felt realistic to her. She did not doubt if she met him for the first time back in the alley, she'd act the same way as her other self on the screen did.
If the viewings on the screen were true, then it'd be an important moment for both Garfiel and Otto because they'll know how their brother fell in love with the silver-haired half-elf princess.
"Well, that was fun and all, but I didn't see big bro suffer?" Felt asked, not noticing she just raised red flags.
"This is boring for a goddess such as mineself. The only interesting part was how he got summoned to this world," Priscilla said, yawning.
"I bet thereeeee's something after this as weelllll, let's continue watchinggggg," Roswaal suggested, wanting to view Subaru's power first-hand as soon as possible.
"Oi Roswaal, ya seem to know somethin' ya bastard," Garfiel snapped at the clown.
"Unfortunatelyyyy I do not what will happen to Subaru-kuuuun."
Roswaal smartly rephrased his sentence to avoid the Divine Protection of Wind Indication.
"Not lying."
"He's telling the truth."
Garfiel growled and went back to his seat. If that clown were to lie, he would've killed him right on the spot.
"So let's continue th' viewing, shall we?" Anastasia asked.
"Yea-"
-BOOM-
Something suddenly landed in the theatre, interrupting their conversation.
Author's note
First of all, I'm sorry for the late update. I promise other chapters won't take so long to come out, they'll be quicker.
I got busy with my exams
and stuff, not having much time but to write something like 1k words per night.
I've also updated the prologue to include a few more conversations that were originally supposed to happen at the end of arc 1 but I'll go for a different conversation. I wanted the prologue to long myself anyway. So be sure to check it if you haven't.
This chapter won't contain any Satella and Subaru conversation but the next chapter will, in the starting. Next chapter is also RbD reveal!
Also Moancraft lol.
Do review and follow if you liked this chapter. Stay safe.
