"Okay... If I remember correctly, there are two Bokoblins that are trying to hunt out here somewhere in this forest... And then a bit further down the stream there's a Bokoblin camp. We want to take out the hunters here and then we'll take out the camp." Link said to Zelda. The two were crouched behind a boulder that sat in the middle of the woods.
"Okay... Yes, indeed that sounds like a great plan Link... So what do I do?" Zelda asked, practically bobbing in anticipation. Link wondered if she had held these excitements in when they had travelled together, or if the idea of freedom was going to the Ex-Princesses head.
"With the camp, we'll just shoot them from a distance. Make sure they don't hurt us while we bathe in the river. As for the two in the forest..." Link looked at the Master Sword for a second before sighing.
"Listen carefully. There will be two Bokoblins. We can't really shoot them from the trees. We could, but that wouldn't help you learn. One of them will be silver. Whatever you do, do NOT attack the silver one. I will handle him. He's leagues above you. Even I have a hard time if I don't do it properly."
Zelda nodded.
"The other one is red. I know you've taken out a few of them with your goddess powers, but you can't rely on those. You said its been quiet for a few weeks now. So you'll be just using a sword. A red one is basically a starter if we are putting it training wise."
Zelda once again nodded, looking as if she was waiting for a bit more explanation. Zelda leaned forward. Link raised an eyebrow.
"What?" He asked, tired of the awkward silence.
"Oh, I thought... Well I mean.. I thought you would tell me more about the Bokoblins. Is there a certain way they act? Anything I should watch out for...?" Zelda inquired. Link blinked. Right, this girl was a researcher. She won't dive head first into danger like himself without some sort of information. Link sat for a second, usually he went off of muscle memory when fighting Bokoblins. Lizalfos and bigger monsters he had to actually think about.
"Bokoblins... Like to take forever to swing. They'll raise their sword and literally hold it there for a second. Though I think this guy in particular uses a spear. He'll jab at you. If you can dodge the first strike then you can get a few hits in. Enough to finish him. Sound good?"
"Perfect!" Zelda said.
"Also, throw that travelers sword away." Link said suddenly. Zelda was taken aback.
"What? Why? I like my travelers sword... It's the first sword I ever got..."
"Zelda you got the sword like two days ago. I'm sorry to say, but its garbage. You need a better sword and I have a million of them-"
"But this is my sword! I got it through my first battle... I want to keep it." Zelda insisted. Link sighed. He remembered this type of thinking with his first special swords.
"Look, Zelda. I get it. Really I do. The sword is special to you, you don't wanna part with it. But weapons break. Easy. And the last thing you want is a sword to break mid fight. You picked it up from a Skalkoblin. It's old, its weak. I had to give up swords I like too. Sentimental weapons are not something you want to hold on too. Believe me. Bad habit."
Zelda frowned as she looked down at the sword on her hip. She sighed, realizing the impracticality of her sentiment.
"Alright. I understand. It would be fairly... Impractical, now wouldn't it?" She said, unbuckling the sword from her belt. "So what? I just drop it like you do?"
"Actually no. You're gonna keep it. I'll tell you why in a second. For the time being... here." Link said reaching for the Sheikah Slate.
Appearing out of blue embers, a royal broadsword appeared in Links hands. He held it out to Zelda.
"Take this. It's much better." Link said. Zelda grew wide eyed.
"Link! This is a top sword of the Royal Guard, I can't use this!" She said. Link rolled his eyes.
"Zelda, I'm pretty sure you out rank... Literally all of them." Link said. Zelda however still hesitated.
"But Link, those knights worked hard for these weapons! I haven't done anything to earn it."
"I'm pretty sure keeping the Calamity at bay and Sealing it a hundred years later counts. Come on Zelda take the sword. We live in a new Hyrule right. To most all this sword means is a ton of rupees and the occasional lucky traveler."
"But it's yours! I don't wanna break it and you don't have it..." Zelda said, still nervous to take the sword.
"Zelda..." Link sighed, as he pointed to the purple blade on his back. Zelda blinked.
"Y-Yes... Right. Alright then, I'll take it." She pouted.
"Wow you are a lot more thoughtful... when you don't have to act all princess like..." Link mumbled. Zelda however, caught this.
"Well excuse me for being difficult back then! I had a lot going on..." Zelda pouted. Link laughed at her. Smiling he turned back, trying to remember where the two Bokoblins were hunting. Zelda, after a second of pouting, smiled. It was good to see him laugh and tease her again. His stress had been turning him back into the Silent Knight once again. It was good to see him slowly go back to his normal self.
"Alright Zelda... I believe the Bokoblins are that way. Are you ready?" He asked. Zelda nodded.
"Wait, Link, what do I do with this travelers sword?" She asked suddenly. Link smiled.
"Glad you asked."
"Okay Zelda... You ready?" Link asked from behind the trees. Link and Zelda located the two Bokoblins, chasing down a boar. One silver, one red.
"You remember what to do right?" Link asked. Zelda nodded, holding her travelers sword at the ready. "Okay. remember. No silver whatsoever. Okay, on three... One... Two... THREE!"
Link darted from out the tree on three. The Bokoblins froze for a second, surprised at the sudden sounds. Zelda watched as Link rushed directly towards the silver Bokoblin. Zelda could have sworn she had seen little question marks over their heads for a brief second. Maybe it was just her imagination.
Zelda watched as the silver Bokoblin jabbed his spear at Link. Link, being the trained swordsman he was, easily dodged. It was like lightning. Link had moved so fast, Zelda could only make out the blur of his arms as Link darted into the Bokoblin after the dodge. Wait... Zelda was supposed to be taking the red Bokoblin.
Zelda noticed the red Bokoblin circling the silver Bokoblin and Link, looking for an opening. Zelda took a quick breath before darting out into the battle field. Zelda raised her travelers sword and threw it, directly hitting the red Bokoblin in the head. The bokoblin flew back a few feet before standing once again. It grabbed its Boko Spear and aimed its sights on Zelda, now running after her.
Link, as he fought, couldn't help but be worried, taking quick glances at Zelda as he fought.
"Listen to Impa... Listen to Impa... Listen to Impa..." Link mumbled repeatedly to himself as he battled with the silver Bokoblin.
Zelda watched as the Bokoblin came towards her. She drew her Royal Broadsword from her belt. She took another quick breath. She had a Royal Boradsword, he had a oversized stick. She just had to dodge the first move-
However the first move was not a jab as Link had predicted. The Bokoblin grabbed the tail end of the spear and started swinging it in circles, knocking Zelda in the side. She flew back and rolled back a few feet. The red Bokoblin cheered in victory. Link sucked in his breath.
"Link! I thought you said he would jab!" Zelda yelled, clutching her side as she stood.
Link exhaled, parrying the Silver Bakoblins spear attack with his Hylian Shield. Zelda wouldn't be hurt to bad by a red Bokoblin with a Bokospear. Impa did want her to learn the hard way. The Master Sword apparently did as well.
"My bad!" Link called as he backflipped out the way of the Silver Bokoblin. Zelda frowned as the red Bokoblin jumped around. Was he... Taunting her?
"Now you look here you pig faced-"
Zelda didn't finish, receiving a spear jab to the stomach sending her flying back even further. The Bokoblin once again cheered. Link watched from the corner of his eye. He knew Zelda could take a hit now... But he couldn't help but know she would be mighty upset after this.
"Alright! That is enough! Stop jumping like you've won-" Zelda was once again knocked back. Link couldn't help but pity her now.
"Zelda maybe you should stop trying to have a conversation with it!" Link said. Link side swiped at the silver Bokoblin, causing it to fly back. Link turned and watched as Zelda stood yet again.
"You keep quiet!" Zelda yelled back. Link sighed. Yea, she was fine.
"Okay.. Don't take it personal... Don't take it personal... Do what Link did.. and DODGE!"
Zelda dodged the upcoming swing of the Bokoblin spear. She ran forward to take her chance, striking down on the red Bokoblins head. The Bokoblin felll with a thud.
"See there you go! I knew you could-" Link never finished. A Bokoblin Spear struck his side from behind sending him flying back. He landed with a thud as he heard Zelda laughing at him from a distance. Link clicked his tongue, the corner of his mouth frowning. Link raised his fingers and snapped. Lightning struck down on the silver Bokoblin, killing it instantly.
Link got up and brushed himself off as Zelda skipped to him.
"I see you had a bit of trouble." Zelda said. Link raised an eyebrow.
"At least mine didn't taunt me." Link retaliated.
Zelda glared at him.
"I believe we have a camp to shoot. Come along." Zelda said haughtily. Link frowned.
"Do you even know where the camp is?"
"Nope, but I'm sure I'll find it." Zelda called back as she walked away.
Link shook his head, a small smile appearing on his face as he started walking after her.
