Zelda sighed as she read through the notes she had taken from the Divine Beast excursion the day previously, standing once again next to a railing with a waterfall flowing next to her. While the hypothesis of the Beast not responding due to the Monks interference may be accurate, Zelda and Link had no lead as to why they may have done so. Zelda shook her head as she closed the notepad. Rereading countless times wasn't helping. What conclusion were they supposed to come too if there wasn't anything wrong with the Beast?
"You're stressing Zelda," A voice said from behind her. Zelda turned to see the blue clad Knight walking towards her. "You know, we don't really have a time limit like before."
"Glad to see you're finally awake," Zelda said rolling her eyes, choosing to turn back towards the notebook and the railing. "And what if we do Link? We only have two bits of information. The Monks are telling Impa that they have... something... for us, and that it has to do with the Divine Beast potentially. But nothing is wrong with them. That's so... vague."
"True, but it's not like we aren't used to vague warnings and hints as to where to go. The Calamities timing and what it would be was super vague. Who knew the depictions of a purple smoke cloud pig would be so literal..." Link said, leaning his back against the railing next to Zelda. "And I mean you left me a pretty vague quest as well. All you said to Impa was 'Free the Four Divine Beast'... That could have been multiple ways if I was creative enough to think of things."
"Well, luckily the first thing you ever thought of was hit it with something, whether it be a sword or arrow." Zelda said, staring dejectedly out into the waters. "And apparently that worked. All four times in fact."
"Hey, I did more than that," Link said. "Sometimes it was an axe or a spear."
Zelda furrowed her eyebrows as she looked at Link.
"You know, now that you mention it... Why do I never see a spear on you?" She asked curiously. "Do you actually use them?"
Link thought about that for a second before shrugging.
"I mean, I used to. But as monsters got stronger and more agile... I dunno, a spear didn't really do it for me , I guess." Link responded. Zelda shrugged.
"I think they seem pretty useful. Allows you to keep your distance..."
"Are you just saying that because you got the wind knocked out of you by a spear?" Link teased. Zelda shot him a look.
"Excuse me, but I do believe I won that fight thank you very much!" She said, huffing and opening her notebook again to read through the notes. Link grinned as he rested against the railing. Zelda, however sighed. She had opened the notebook knowing full well nothing in the notes were going to help her.
"I don't know what to do Link..." Zelda said, letting her wrist and the notebook dangle loosely and open. "I don't want to fail at this. If this is important-"
"Then you'll find a way. We will find a way." Link said casually. "We just started Zelda. Don't get defeated just yet. It's only day two. You need something to take your mind off of this."
"Hello Link! And the Heroic Princess herself! It's wonderful to see you both!" Another voice called out. Zelda turned as Link focused on the Zora headed towards them. Link grinned.
"In fact... That right there is the perfect distraction," Link muttered under his breath. Zelda's pointed ears twitched as she heard what Link had said under his breath. What was he planning to do now?
"Hello Gruve!" Link said happily, straightening up to greet the tall Navy Zora.
"Fancy seeing you here by the waterfall! Here to do some diving!?" Gruve asked excitedly. "I haven't see your spectacular diving skills in months!"
Gruve turned his attention to Zelda in glee.
"Links diving is even better than a Zora's! It's incredible!"
Zelda's eye's dilated as they shot towards Link, prepping for the incoming request she absolutely knew Link was headed towards.
"I mean, I could show you a dive..." Link said with a shrug. However the grin grew slightly larger on his face.
"But how about we teach someone else here how to dive? I think Zelda here would love diving training." He said, patting Zelda on the back. Gruves eyes lit up as Zelda looked repeatedly between the two in horror.
"Link! I can't dive! I've never been taught how!" Zelda said, almost scaredly. Link turned to her with a face of mocking disappointment.
"Zelda, you need to learn how to dive at some point," He said an exaggerated displeasing voice. "You seemed so excited to learn how to glide back at the house. How is this much different?"
"This is much different because this doesn't involve a glider!" Zelda said, turning and leaning over railing, peering down into the water below. "If you land in water wrong, it can feel like hitting solid ground! And unfortunately I now know what that feels like..."
Zelda's hand unconsciously went towards her recently healed leg. Yes, she may have told Link she didn't mind getting hurt along the trip. That was inevitable. But that didn't mean she would just do ANYTHING. Especially after that encounter with the Lynel...
Link however shook his head as he placed a hand on Zelda's shoulder.
"I didn't say we were going to just throw you off the waterfall Zelda. I said we would teach you," Link said soothingly. He knew Zelda was still shook from the battle with the Lynel. As much as he wanted Zelda to be careful, this was a chance to get her back into her love of adventure, while also taking her mind off the Divine Beast. Two Keese with one arrow.
"Come on Princess, diving is a wonderful sport here in Zora's Domain," Gruve said, trying to contain his excitement of watching Hylians dive. "I assure you, Link and I are the best of teachers."
Zelda looked between the two nervously before sighing.
"Alright then... Please teach my how to dive. I'll be in your care..."
"Muzu!" Laflat called out, looking around for the elderly Stingray as she held a stack of papers in her hand. She looked around, noticing the old Zora was nowhere to be seen in his study. Eventually she found the Zora Councilman on one of the lower levels of the Domain, apparently watching something.
"Councilman Muzu, there you are!" Laflat said, catching her breath. "I have papers King Dorephan would appreciate your guidance and assistance on..."
Muzu, however, did not respond. He continued looking out towards one of the Domain's waterfalls. Laflat raised an eyebrow.
"I'm sorry, but what are you staring at?" Laflat asked, looking in the direction Muzu was. Her eyes lit up as she spotted the growing crowd at one of the waterfalls of the Domain. "Oh yes! The Hylians! Gruve and the Champion are teaching the Princess how to dive! Isn't that fun?"
Muzu grunted as he looked on. Gruve and Link were repeatedly jumping down the waterfall and swimming back up as Zelda watched, apparently nervous. Though nervous as she might be, the Zora could tell she was getting increasingly interested with each jump. Many Zora had started taking an interest into the teachings, cheering and urging the Princess that she could do it as well. However, a temple grew on Muzu's fishlike forehead.
Link had changed into the Zora Armor. That Princess was making Mipha's love interest wear the armor that signified Mipha's love for Link. In order for the boy to teach her new things? Did that Princess have any shame? Growing close to the Hylian Champion with the tools Mipha had created to claim Link as her own before her untimely death... And while the Hylian Princess was the cause of it!
Muzu grumbled as he snatched the papers away from Laflat, turning and heading back to his study. Laflat gave a confused look as she watched Muzu grumble away before turning her attention back towards the Hylians. She gulped.
Maybe a small break from her duties in order to watch the event wouldn't hurt. She smiled as she ran to get a closer view of the diving event.
Link swam up the waterfall, flying high into the air as the speed tossed him skyward, landing gracefully with a roll onto the Zora Platform.
"I swear Link, I can never top you when it comes to diving!" Gruve said. "You truly are magnificent!"
"Thanks Gruve," Link said standing, water dripping from the ends of the blue Zora Armor. Link turned to a Zelda, who was once again looking over the railing into the water below.
"You starting to get a theory on how to do this yet Zelda?" Link called out.
"Leap with the toes, arch your back, arms forward, hands clapped together, hold until you hit the water..." Zelda mumbled, apparently trying to encourage herself.
The small crowd of Zora cheered for Zelda to jump, clapping and calling 'Princess! Princess!' Zelda turned towards the crowd, smiling nervously. Wasn't peer pressure supposed to be a bad thing?
"What's all the ruckus here? What's with the crowd?" A strong voice called out. Many Zora turned to watch as the Zora Prince made his way to the crowd towards Gruve and the two Hylians.
"Hey Sidon," Link said casually. "Just teaching the Princess here how to dive like a Zora."
Sidon turned towards Zelda, who nervously waved with an awkward smile. He beamed his sharp shiny smile.
"Wonderful! I believe your dive shall be just as graceful as Link's!" The Prince said. Zelda sighed.
"He really has the diving reputation here doesn't he? No pressure at all..." Zelda muttered. Link smiled as he watched Zelda peer over the waterfall yet again. He rolled his eyes as he took a few steps towards her.
Zelda turned, reacting to Link's movement, surprised to find Link holding his hand out.
"Come on. I'll dive with you," Link said. "That should make it a lot less scary, right?"
Zelda looked down at Links hand before lightly putting her hand in it.
"Shut up... I didn't say it was scary," Zelda said, not wanting to admit to the crowd that she was scared. Link smiled as the Zora's watched on, guiding her towards the waterfall only a few steps away.
"Let's give them a countdown everyone!" Sidon called out. The Zora cheered as Zelda turned frantically towards the crowd.
"No, no, no, no, that won't be necessary! Really-"
"Let's do it!" Link called out with a smile. Zelda turned her gaze towards Link, her eyes wide.
"You'd better prepare yourself. Stay close. I'm the one with the armor." Link muttered in her ear. Zelda gulped.
"THREE!" The crowd called. Link faced the waterfall completely, ready to jump. Zelda, still in surprise, tried to mimic him.
"TWO!"
Zelda gripped Links hand tightly. This was it. They were gonna jump. Down into the water below. She had to. She had to have faith. She believed. She trusted him. She trusted Link.
"ONE... JUMP!"
The two leap gracefully down the waterfall. With a splash, the two crashed into the water. Zelda, feeling the icy water against her skin as she and Link completely submerged, pushed herself into Link's chest, gripping his body tightly. Link, noticing Zelda's arms around him, shot towards the waterfall.
"HERE THEY COME!" Gruve called out, taking a few steps back. With another grand splash, Zelda and Link shot up into the sky, Zelda holding Link tightly as they landed, Zelda's eyes tightly closed as her head remained buried in his chest.
"Amazing!" Sidon called out, clapping as the other Zora clapped along with him. Zelda opened an eye before looking around, her heart still pounding from the exhilaration.
"Oh my, wow, that was... Well that was fun! I liked that! I mean... I'm all wet now but I'm always wet being in the Domain! Link that was so much fun!" She said happily. Link smiled raising an eyebrow.
"And you wanted to say no," He said teasingly, standing.
"Whatever Link, I told you I wasn't scared," Zelda said huffing. Link chuckled.
"Of course, of course. You weren't scared and that has nothing to do with you still holding on to me?" Link asked.
"What?" Zelda asked before realizing what he meant. She was still clinging to him, arms wrapped around his chest as he now was holding her up. Zelda's cheeks grew red.
"Link why did you stand and pick me up! And in front of all these Zora- Link put me down!" She said, rather quickly. Link laughed as Zelda glared at him.
"Very funny! Can you please put me down now!?" She asked, growing more red. Link smiled as he gently put the Princess down. Zelda brushed water off her clothes, desperately trying to collect herself.
"I swear, for someone who was all worried about what my father would think, you've sure stopped worrying haven't you?" She said. Link's face grew a bit worried.
"I'm sorry, I haven't offended you have I? I'm sorry, I won't do it again-"
"Oh shut up Link," Zelda said, turning away from him with her arms crossed. "I didn't say you couldn't do it again... Just not in front of everyone..."
Zelda had whispered that last part. Links eyebrows furrowed before looking around.
"Oh..."
"ALRIGHT EVERYONE," Sidon called loudly, "I know they have been the center of attention lately but let's leave the two Hylians be shall we?"
The crowd started dispersing as Link smiled awkwardly, chuckling just a bit.
"It was good to see you again Link! Maybe we could try diving off Shatterback Point sometime! I'm sure you can do it!" Gruve said, heading off to find another diving spot. Link waved as the Zora dispersed, however he gave Sidon a confused look as the Moblin Sized Zora smiled, giving him a thumbs up. Link shrugged as he turned back to Zelda, who was still red, with now the two of them alone.
"Feeling a bit better?" Link asked Zelda as she began wringing water out of her Hylian tunic, also taking her hair out of her ponytail.
"Very... While I don't appreciate the show you gave everyone, but... Thank you. I feel much better." Zelda said with a smile.
"You know Link..." Zelda said as she took a few steps towards the Seabed Inn, planning on studying a bit more. "I wouldn't mind if...you know... We acted a bit closer like that more often... I... I like it... I think..."
Zelda suddenly jogged off up the ramps as Link remained standing in his Zora tunic. The lyrics of Kass's final song started ringing in his head once again...
"The princess's love for her fallen knight"
Link had always figured that lyric had simply meant she cared for him... But... Did she actually love him back then? Link leaned his back against the railing yet again. A slight weight in his chest appeared, a weight that had not appeared in over a hundred years. Link sighed.
"There's no way Link..." He told himself out loud, calmly and soothingly. "You liked her Link. I don't remember how I felt about Mipha... But I know I liked Zelda. That doesn't mean she liked me back..."
Link chuckled to himself.
"Jeez... Not knowing how I felt about one Princess and knowing what I felt about the other... An outsider looking in would not think too highly of me would they?"
...
